(Cross-posted)

It's hard to believe that it's already been one year since the OCR community lost Reuben. Losing someone is always sad, but even more so when they were in the prime of their life and had done so many great things. I believed then, and I still do now, that we shouldn't dwell on the tragic circumstances of someone's death. Why overlook the fond memories, great accomplishments, and the wonderful years of their life just to focus on one sad moment, right? And in Reuben's case, there was a lot to celebrate. I had been wracking my brains over what to write but truth be told, I can't. Words, at least mine, can't do him justice and others can do a far better job than me, even people who hadn't met him in person. That was Reuben's gift, the power to touch others with his gifts, especially his music even if it was only one aspect of his great life. In keeping with that, I'm posting links so that his music would continue to touch others and keep his memory alive. :

[link]
[link]
[link] (set up by his family. The music section seems to be restricted at the moment. will update when/if they open it up again)

I have no doubt that if Reu were still with us he'd be happy to see how far the community has come along- involvement in commercial projects (SF2 HD just recently) and getting together with compilations. And I know he would've jumped on board with all of them. That freakin' overachiever.

Cheers, Reu.

First off, a hearty thank you for everyone's comments, faves and watches! I don't have much spare compy time and work gets in the way (as it often does) and after an entire day of staring at the computer, the last thing I want to do is stare at it some more when I'm home. :\ Plus, I've started cooking and baking like a maniac so the time just flies by when I'm home. Good golly I think I'm becoming domestic...

Work is busy as always. It feels funny because I'm still relatively new at production work so every project is new to me no matter how "normal" it is and I'm pretty much flying by the seat of my pants. Plus we've just hit busy season which means I'll have plenty of fun when the sh!t hits the fan. Maybe that'll be a nice source of inspiration for new pictures.

Art-wise, I don't have as much time as I used to for art because of the above. I had just gotten used to the Intuos, too, but after letting it collect dust for so long I'm back at square 1. Scribbling skills have gotten mighty rusty, too. >,< At least I haven't forgotten how to do stick figures...

Hope everyone's doing well!

Shiney-chan, we need to hit up Applebees since your sister is sorta free from busy season.

New job is super busy- scribbling time is non-existent but I have hijacked the wacom tablet for home. Also saving up for the smaller Cintiq.

In a few weeks I'll be headed to the NY Comic Con with a couple of co-workers, Al, and possibly the Brother (it all depends on the video game showings.) This is my first comic convention so it should be interesting. Stan Lee will be there! XD Square Enix is also supposed to be there so I wonder if they'll have merchandise available for sale. I've been hunting down the Lenneth statue ever since they announced it.

A few days after that, the Brother will be on Spring Break and we'll be headed to a taping of the Colbert Report! good times, good times. Between bouts of baking and work, I always make tiem for teh games

Video games:
Dynasty Warriors 6- Short story, it's a very pretty Dynasty Warriors 3. You either love the series or you hate it, there is no in between. Very much let down by lack of musou modes and freakin cloned characters. "Story"-wise, it seems Koei is running into the very opposite of what the Dragonball games face. Whereas the DB games are always retelling the same freakin story (OMG Goku saves the world from EVIL!), the DW series is always caught between being historical or giving fanservice. I have a distinct feeling that no one's playing these games to learn about history (and if you are, there's something VERY wrong with you ). DW6 for the most part feels like a cliched kung fu movie with lots of posing, deep thought, some angst, and lots of "Start writing bad fanfic NAO!" moments. The new Renbu system is just another word for button mashing (square button ad infinitum). Charge moves (triangle) are more useful but rarely used. No weapon fusions or 4th weapons. And again, cloned characters/cut characters. I'd rather they downright cut characters out of it and give us better musou modes than have cloned characters that are good for nothing except Free Mode. The more I hear about the stuff they packed into Musou Orochi: Maou Sarin/Orochi 2 (ninety something characters!), the more I get pissed at DW6. For your Koei fix, you're better off with Musou Orochi/Warriors Orochi (character switching on the fly FTW)

SMT: Persona 3- Freakin awesome. it's an odd combination of a dating sim, dungeon crawler, and good ol' turn based RPG. This is quickly becoming my favorite RPG series, even more than FF. Overall quality of the series is just awesome, likeable characters, deep storyline, excellent voice acting (Liam O'Brian, Tara Platt, Michelle Ruff, Yuri Lowenthal in this one, Crispin Freeman aka dub Alucard was in DDS) and no freakin angsty whiny protagonists (for the most part, they're mute or don't talk much )!

Crisis Core: heard many good things about this one, esp the voice acting (I'm VA obsessed) but I'm waiting for the Euro Version- it comes with a slipcase and artbook. What I don't understand is their having to wait if UMDs are supposed to be region free (the Japanese VP Lenneth plays fine on my PSP)

Valkyrie Profile: The Accused One- this one was just announced but WOO HOO!! My precious Lennethhh.... ahem. I'm excited

1. Who is your favourite Hellsing character(s)?
Integra followed by Alucard and Pip.

2. What is your favorite pairing?
Pip and Seras make me squee. Plus it's canon. :3 Integra and Alucard make a neat pairing, too.

3. Are you a Hellsing yaoi or hentai fan?
Ah ha ha... pleading the fifth...

4. Ever cosplayed Hellsing characters? If so, who, where and how many times?
No, I just don't have the time/skill/patience/attention span for costume making.

5. List your collection of Hellsing junk and merchandise, if any.
Manga, DVDs (original TV series and the limited editions of the OVA), soundtracks, and some garage kits (Integra, Pinky Alucard, Pinky Seras and I'm on and off with making a Pinky Integra).

6. Have you ever felt that you were destined to be with a Hellsing character? If so who?
Ummm..... No.... just no to Mary Sues... for feck's sake... NO.

7. Alucard x Integra or Alucard x Seras?
Integra x Alucard! I'm biased. ^_^ Manga-wise, the thought of Alucard x Seras weirds me out- paternal relationship and all. The TV series just stuffed a lot of sexual tension that just didn't belong (Crispin, Alucard's VA, even commented on the fact that there's no sexual tension between Seras and Alucard in the new OVA)

8. Alucard x Alexander or Alucard x Walter?
0_o Alucard and Anderson, I guess, for that rivalry aspect. Walter annoys me at the moment.

9. Which team is your favourite?
Hellsing.

10. Do you know who Sir Islands is?
He has a nice hat. XD

11. Do you think that Enrico poses (?) a considerable competition for the Pope?
He certainly had the ambition, maybe even too much. "Had" being key operative word.

12. Your favourite Millennium member?
No one in particular, really. Does Jan count? Because I so do love the cussing.

13. Are you pro-Alucard or anti-Alucard?
Is he dragging out a fight longer than necessary or striking overly dramatic poses amidst a bloody backdrop? If no, then I'm pro. : P

14. Have you seen all Hellsing episodes so far? (anime and OVAs so far)
Yup yup.

15. Have you read all the chapters so far?
Yep.

16. Who is your favourite Herr Major's follower?
Isn't this the same as 12...? Again, I don't really feel anything towards Marjor's followers. Umm... Zorin because she's sadistic and carries a scythe? I know, not deep at all.

17. Sub or dub?
I guess I'm one of a few who appreciates both. Generally I go for subs but I will see how actors of a dub interpret characters, etc.

18. Pro-Schroedinger or Anti-Schroedinger?
Kitty!

19. What do you think of the Major's ideals?
He's insane but sometimes, crazy is good.

20. Seras = annoying or funny?
Funny when not being used for gratuitous boob and butt shots.

21. Dandy = sexy or ugly?
Meh. You'd think he'd be sexier with a name of Dandy...

22. Which character would be the best crossdresser?
Alucard (Oh c'mon, Girlycard for crissakes!).

23. Dok = weird looking or awesome looking?
Multi-lensed eye wear FTW!

24. Which character would be best OOC? Who and how?
NEVAR.

25. Do you like Hellsing fanfics?
I don't have much time for reading fanfics so I generally stay away unless they're very well written.

26. Do you write Hellsing fanfics?
Naw, but I did toy with the idea of a fancomic (I shot it down because of high Mary Sue potential, better safe than wanky.)

27. Have you read any Hellsing doujinshi?
I don't know Japanese fluently so most of it's lost on me unless it has hilarious pictures or... smex.

28. Do your parents know any Hellsing characters?
Haha, no, parents are not in the know about my many fandoms since DBZ (and that was ages ago)

29. Do you know (almost) every Hellsing characters' birthday?
Well first Hirano needs to create a character guide of some sort and if he were to do so... Nope, I still wouldn't make an effort to know them.

30. Have you read the Hellsing ultimate news about manga? (or rather, are you in the news regarding the manga's progress?)
Not religiously, no.

31. Have you ever got someone else hooked on Hellsing?
A few.

32. Have you ever been drawing Hellsing in school and have someone randomly say "WOAH! you like Hellsing too!?"<br /...

A little late in coming because I'm trying to remember as much as I can with Tom's help and distractions at work. The reading and discussion from last night will be available in podcast (presumably with vid) from next month, or so the Apple Rep said. I really do hope there's vid, Stephen kept making these great faces as he switched sides while reading. Recap as best as I can remember behind the cut.

Random recap/thoughts:
-Curse the Brother for hijacking my camera! Hopefully someone on colbertnation will have some. There is another event at the Barnes & Noble next Wednesday. Mayhap we will attend that. :3
-The line had wrapped around from the store's entrance onto Greene Street. Tom and I were lined up just around the corner so it wasn't too bad. Had the line been further along we would have said eff it. Many more people came on line after us, down to the end of the block I think.
-According to one of the Apple guys, there were about 300 people in the audience, many of whom had to stand.
-Caught a quick glimpse of Stephen before the event officially started. "I see HIM!!"
-Before it started there was a disclaimer from Apple that the event was being recorded and that by attending/staying, they could use our likenesses for any lawful purpose in perpetuity (aka Forever). So if they caught the back of my head on camera, Apple owns my soul?
-He gave a quick thanks to the writers and read their names out before reading. Readings from the book by Stephen: the Foreword, sections from chapters on Religion, Sex & Dating, Class War, and Immigrants. Allison Silverman did a reading of a "Stephen Speaks For Me" section in the Dating chapter (his favorite section apparently). Reading was little more than half and hour. There were a few times Stephen broke out of character and laughed along witht the audience. He also switched from side to side every now and then so that everyone could get a good look at him, making sure to smile or arch an eyebrow.
-"Are any of the writers here? No? None of the other writers are here? Good. I wrote this book by myself." (mind you, he already read their names out loud before the reading)
-He dared readers to find anything in the book that had been plagiarized because "You won't find anything because I didn't!"
-Stephen was emailed pictures of his book being fed to a bear earlier in the day. He was very amused. (Vid and pics here: [link])
-Announced that he was running for president in South Carolina. Just South Carolina. (he made the same announcement during the show but this was technically before the TDS or Report aired)
-Today is the second anniversary of the Colbert Report. The audience cheered and "Aaawwww"-ed.
-Discussion and Q&A from the audience moderated by Jesse Thorn was very well done and organized. There were some pretty good questions asked by the audience.
-Reasons for writing the book? They followed other models and shows (number one being O'Reilly) which expanded into books- realized that the character cared about more things than they realized and much more than they could fit into an episode (22 pages in the book versus 8 pages or 3 minutes on the show) so the book was a logical step. However, according to Stephen, his book is better than the others (O'Reilly, Stewart, etc) because it comes with stickers.
-Speaking of O'Reilly, there was a line in O'Reilly's book along the lines of "I've dated hundreds of women so I should know a thing or two about them. (While he's trying not to laugh) Well if he's dated hundreds of women doesn't that just mean that he knows nothing about them??" Stephen said that he needed to have something like that in his own book.
- Are there times where he's tired of or doesn't want to get into character as the "big man" on camera? "No. I crave attention!" As a performer, no matter how sick he feels, etc., the audience's vibes keep him up and going so he's never tired of going into character.
-Would he ever go into his character for real life? (or something to that extent) He quickly responded with "No! No... just no... (shakes head and laughs) no..." He has 30 seconds between getting out of his car and stepping into his house to break out of character because his wife doesn't like it. Also, the character is "a patented idiot", a bad husband, and a terrible father.
-Goes through a talk with all of his guests before the interviews happen to prep them for the onslaught to come like asking if they've ever seen the show and trying to explain hi...

Random thoughts on last night's event for Mike at Flatiron Joe's, more to come as well as some pictures if they came out ok:

-The actual bar/restaurant was kinda cozy but that's probably because of the crowd. Nice place to hang out and relax. Bit tight around the bar area though so if any artists were there I didn't see because we were in the back.

-Very very unorganized. Yeah, it was at a bar but they could have made things a tad more organized at least for getting commissions, etc done. Things got loud very quickly.

-They should have put up a guest list of some sort- would have brought in a lot more people I think, along with how the sketches, etc were to be done.

-Dan DiDio looks like Kyle Hebert... (but that's only b/c I'm more familiar with voice actors)

-I wish I knew more creators' faces. Hell I wish I knew more creators. A handbook of who's who with their headshots would have helped greatly.

-Artists were doing sketches that were placed in a silent auction which closed in 4 lots as well as doing commissions (minimum $50).

-Jae Lee spent most of the time doing one penciled sketch of Batman which was auctioned off for $375 (!)

-Amanda Conner is amazing. She did all commission pieces. I saw her do Batgirl (Barbara Gordon), Power Girl, Dead Girl (X-Statix) which she penciled, inked, and colored- with Sharpie markers no less! She had a cute lunchbox that stored all her markers. side note I saved her from a sticky mess on her table. As Tom said- "Doing your part to help the industry!"

-Walt Simon was really cranking out the sketches. Headshots of Thor, Loki, Cyclops, Hawkgirl, Koj (from Tellos), Orion, Darkseid, and a full body shot of Thor. I think he also did a quick sketch of Superman.

-Didn't see Suydam but he did sketches of Zombie Spidey and a commission of Zombie Robin (which was auctioned because the guy never picked it up or something)

-Jimmy Palmiotti did bust sketches of Jonah Hex, Silver Surfer, and Daredevil

-Walt asking Jimmy and Amanda for tips. It just makes me smile though I'm not sure why.

-I won sketches of Human Torch with Thing by Reilly Brown and a semi colored Spider Jerusalem by Rodney Ramos. Hoping to scan them soon. I'll probably post those and other pictures on the LJ.

-[NVM, it's Reilly Brown, not Rodney. The guys in charge of the auction screwed his name up] He spent quite a bit of time on details in his Torch/Thing sketch and I felt bad when no one was bidding on it. The guys tracking the auctions put $10 on it hoping people would start bidding and when no one else did, I put down another bid to match the commission minimum. He was in the middle of doing a Deadpool commission and was happy to hear Tom was such a DP nut. Was going to ask for a commission for Tom but we had to go as it was getting late.

-I am always floored when I see artists in action cranking out such great work in mere minutes. *bows* I'm not worthy! And once again.... FREAKIN SHARPIES!

Not as heartfelt as I thought it'd be as much of the night was just getting sketches and hanging out. At the beginning of the night Tom Dezago had said a few things about Mike, how he was always making him laugh , making wise ass remarks, and how from now on, if something asinine happens, "Mike would have wanted it that way!" He gave "Drop your pants" as an example and when someone yelled "Drop your pants! Mike would have wanted it that way!" he immediately shot back with "Noooo!"

Mike Wieringo has passed away. News here: [link]

Anyone who's read any of the Spidey books (from the "regular 616" series to Ultimate Spidey) or Tellos will know his name. He even had a dA account [link]

His style and the energy in his characters was a great influence on me. I'm nothing short of shocked and saddened by the news of his death. Never met him but from all accounts and for the time I was watching him on dA, he seemed like one hell of a guy. I still have his deviation post in my watch list from last Thursday...

I'm gonna miss him...

May you rest in peace, Mike. You will be sorely missed.

They are on t3h Intrawebs. Itz Serious Bizness. Perhaps staying offline for the next few days would be wise if spoilers piss ya off.

I don't care though. In fact, seeing the lengths people go through to spoil others amuses me because they're taking it so seriously when they mock the fandom for being serious. Paradoxes? Oh yes.

The Brother found a lot of stuff while browsing through the encyclopedia dramatica among other sites (YTMND has spoilers flashing on their main page every now and then). Despite him screaming them aloud (I don't get po'd by spoilers), it sorta makes me want to read it more because a lot of it is chock full of WTF-ness.

Happy reading to those embarking on this last book. My copy will be in my office when I get back to work Monday (though we'll probably snag a copy of the regular edition Saturday. The Brother contemplates yelling out spoilers. -_-)

The effects I have in mind are going to be a bitch to finish but it'll be worth it (I hope!). OVA 3 proved to be a nice inspiration. Integra being snarky is funnier than I thought, Alucard's "Open Sesame" line had me cracking up, and the Major singing was adorable. ^_^ Also, I think Tubulcain has Jiraiya's (Naruto anime) seiyuu... Ero-Senin!!
The Wii is mighty tempting though with Red Steel and DBZ Sparking Neo/Budokai Tenkaichi 2 which seems a lot more interesting than the PS2 version. Review here: [link]

Good golly it's been a while since I was on the Internets. My dad was out of town so I was bouncing back and forth between the office and our family store. Both were pretty hectic which = no downtime=no tv make oli go something something. I did manage to squeeze in a little gametime with Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria. My preciousss Lenneth... *huggles* I think I'll start Devil Summoner once I'm done with VP and then, if the spirit moves me, I'll check out FFXII. Vaan's design bugs the hell out of me though...

I'm hoping to get started on a couple of drawings, most notably the second sketch I owe daegana and finish my G2 fanart. Ehehehe... I think I'll be nabbing the tablet at work for the Turkey Day weekend.

Also hoping to start on my GK of Integra. Ya, the one I got ages ago. -_-
Doctomoe beat me to giving her a cigar ([link]), though I would have put it on the other side to imitate the last scenes from the TV anime. I'm hoping to do at least two mods (since I have two extra recasts from E2)- one of Integra in her knight outfit similar to the cover of OVA 2 and one with the black suit and white coat draped over her shoulders. However, at the rate I'm going, it's gonna take me a couple of years. I do wonder what would be quicker- modding the existing limbs or sculpting new ones. I guess it'd be easier to eyeball it if I do the latter but we'll see...

In DBZ fandom news, it looks like the DBZ Dragon Box Set will be coming over without the spiffy scouters or remotes ([link]). I'll be able to fangirl over Trunks all over again. ^_^ Good thing I didn't get the other sets yet (except for the Android Saga from Sam Goody's for $20), though it makes me wonder if they'll release the Dragon Box for the movies as well. Do I really need another version of movie 13..? Hellz YES.

New games- coverage on Daizenshu EX ([link]) for Sparking Neo (aka Budokai Tenkaichi 2 *shudder*) and art for the DS RPG ([link]) coming out in 2007. I'm a sucker for new artwork and Gohan just looks so adorable. ^_^
They also have the opening movie up for d/l- more randomness with 3d shiney versions of the characters. And Cell on Oozaru Bebi's shoulder... like a parot.

And while you're there, check out the podcast- it's a weekly reminder to me at least that it feels pretty damn good to be a DB fan. Also check out their godfather parody ([link]). XD

I'm lukewarm on Tenkaichi- it's more of a 3D DBZ Legends and has pretty much the same problems that Legends has, but I'll still get it- if only to play as Tapion and Yajirobe. XD

Super DBZ is a lot more fun IMO but limited because of the number of playable characters. Trunks finally gets a sword projectile like I always wanted him to have and he can get an effing light saber! Well, reallly more of a beam saber which reminds me of Zero from the Megaman X series. :3

And while on the topic of DB, best mispelling ever- [link]age=db04
Rest of the site may not be safe for work only cuz they don't block out the more umm.. "adult" kits. But I really wouldn't buy from a site that can't get their characters right.

It's funny how so much can happen within a week. Last Friday my best friend aka Figgy's father passed away leaving her, her three younger siblings and their mom with all his debt. I'm trying really hard not to launch into a rant with said friend since it's not going to help any. Long story short, he was their only source of financial support and he was only a father in the sense that he bought them stuff. I only hope that his soul is able to pass on peacefully into the afterlife knowing that he's royally screwed his family over. Good job, Asshole! And here I was crying after hearing how he seemed to turn over a new leaf during his final moments in the hospital and understand what a good family he had. Gah.

So now relatives from his side of the family are forcing Figgy's mom to keep the house, if only to save face so that "no one talks" and don't care about the financial trouble they're in. They've offered to buy the house to keep it in the family's possession but a huge problem is that they're nothing more than backstabbing greedy bastards and I'm pretty sure that once they've got possession of the house that they'll kick Figgy and her family out. Another alternative is that since the house has a lower level like an apt, that they rent it out as a source of income. The only problem is that they have to separate the utiliities and that takes money.

I've been wracking my brain since last weekend and literally doing what the mood-emoticon is doing. Pretty soon I think I could join a Buddhist convent. The idea of taking out loans has crossed my mind but that would just create a vicious cycle. Figgy and I are both working but we're straight out of college and of course that means student loans up the wazoo. If only I had more time...

Advice is welcomed. Prayers would be greatly appreciated.

Ganked from aberrantangel ([link]) Wheter or not I get requests is another thing entirely....:

the first 5 people to comment on this journal will get to request art as long as they follow these rules:
Rules:
1: It's a sketch. You're not getting the prettiest cleanest thing in the world.
2: I will draw original characters, and maybe fanart....Maybe...
3: Animals and dragons... No, sorry, I can't draw em. XD
4: You must do art for people like this on your own journal.

My mods on the rules-
1) I won't draw anything that I deem goes against common decency, etc.
2) The first person to tell me how to make a dA user's icon appear when I'm referencing (in entries, etc) them gets 2 sketches. I hate not knowing how to code. >,<

Not a rule, but something to keep in mind- please understand that things are super busy at my place of work so it may take a while for me to finish things, especially if it's subject matter that I'm not familiar with, but they will be done. Some may even be on post-its or old reports. "Believe It!" *gets shot*

Happy 'questing.

I've been trying to get more drawing done to get me out of my current rut/drawing atrophy but work and family stuff always pop up. Pretty soon I'll be so rusty I won't be able to draw Mr. Stickly Man...

So yeah... Obligatory First Entry here.... Hmm....
Would you put your brain in a Robot Body?? Mep...
So where to begin..... I'm a college student, well on her way to completing her junior year. Very mixed up in terms of finding a right major... I'm enrolled in business school, but none of that stuff appeals to me. I'd rather much be creating and doing what I love instead of making money and crunching numbers... Then again, I suppose I could always find a "stable" job and then go off and do something fun... Hoooo....

I love anime, as you might be able to tell from my scribbles. I'm in an SD/Chibi phase at the moment.. Still have quite a bit to learn when it come to coloring and photoshop stuff, but all in due time I suppose. Time is something I don't have much of, with all the work and tests coming up, so pictures come when the spirit moves me, which isn't very often at all....
