We had a 40 degree day a few days back and I was ready to bring out the beach towels and shorts. It felt like 70 degrees in comparison to the single digit and sometimes negative numbers we've been getting, sometimes including wind chill. It seems we may be getting a snowstorm for New Years day, too. That'll be fun to shovel out of.

So, pretty cool news, I'll be going to a Shinedown, Puddle of Mudd concert in January!! I'm pretty excited about that. I just happened to check for available tickets for Shinedown on Ticketmaster and they just happened to be there! It was like fate. So, that was a small little Christmas gift to me from me. I hope the weather isn't as cold that day. Bundling up to walk across the city is fine, but carrying your coat, gloves, hat, scarf, etc, in the concert venue is infinitely annoying. Especially because the place is all general admission, so there are no seats to put anything down on.

Another nice little bit of luck is that I found my old Zippo. I've always loved the lighters and have always wanted to collect them, but I just never got the money to do so. I'm trying to relearn all my old Zippo tricks. Some are like getting on a bike for the first time in years, others are like my fingers are made of butter. Absolutely none of the tricks I used to know are fluid now. It's all jerky. I'll get better, though, now that I found the bad boy.

Book Review: A Man Without a Country by - Kurt Vonnegut: I read this 'memoir' in less than three hours during a Saturday night. One can hardly call it an autobiography because the tidbits of information we get from Kurt's writing is, as usual, not very insightful towards the person's life but more towards the thoughts and humorist outlook Kurt has on the world around him. He writes these words at the age of 82, two years before he would meet his end from irreversible brain injury when he fell in his NYC home. His brain finally played a joke on him, and I'm sure he's been laughing in heaven since then. He'd get a kick out of that last statement, I'm sure.

He certainly tells us tidbits of information that are perhaps more valuable than anything else that can be gleaned from so called "professionals". He is the stone in the shoes of conservatism, the loud fly buzzing in the ears of idealism. He weaves many quotes from his previous novels, and ones in the works, into his writing. Not a surprise, since the writing of many is the composite of the author.

His theories are sound, truthful, and without hesitation. One must have a taste for humorist satire to be able to read his thoughts and smile. I wish he could have seen 2012 and to see what he would have to say about our planned demise. I'm sure he would mention something about it being planned all along. We know what we do to our world and now it is too late. Our gasoline junkie selves cannot tear away. He reminds us of this with a pleasant smile and a thumbs up. Yep. It's gonna be one of THOSE types of journals.

Because my mother has been on blood thinners she has also been having nose bleeds quite frequently. Earlier in the week they were becoming worse and worse, longer and longer. Come Wednesday she was not only bleeding from her nose often but she found blood in her urine. We're not talking specks of blood either, we're talking raspberry red pee. She went to see the doctor, he took a sample, and said that if it got worse, didn't get better, or became painful or uncomfortable that she would have to go to the hospital. Again. All I kept thinking was having to visit her in the hospital and bring her gifts there. It was such a sad image.

Thursday it was still the same color, only slightly lighter by the afternoon. I still went for my seven courses of fish Italian dinner in the next town over because I'm, literally, three minutes away if she needed me.

Christmas morning I asked her what her wee looked like and she said a bit lighter so that was good. I went and did Christmas at my dad's, barely eating my breakfast, and returned to moms. My sister and I did Christmas there and decided that, yes, my mom would go out to Long Island to celebrate with the rest of our family. The best gift I received this year was that she went to the bathroom in the afternoon and she told me there was not a trace of blood to be had. I hope it stays away for good.

Of course, there's many other complications because she still needs to be on a blood thinner, or do surgery, and that we have to figure out WHAT was bleeding, but... I couldn't have been happier hearing that news. I got to spend my Christmas with my mother, without her being hooked up to machines in a hospital bed. For the first time in a while, I was all smiles.

Book Review: They Cage the Animals at Night by - Jennings Michael Burch: Interestingly enough, we got to read this in middle school. We also got to keep the books that were assigned to us. I still remember certain scenes where Jennings, the narrator, and the author of this autobiographical novel either received amazing amounts of love or terrible amounts of abuse.

Set in the 1950s, in New York City and its environs, we get the unforgettable account of a few years of Jennings's childhood. With his mother too tired, sick, and beaten down to care for him and his brothers, he is shipped off several times to either foster homes or to orphanages. Early in the book we meet his constant friend, Doggie, a white and tan stuffed animal that was given to him, (at first) only at night, at the first home he stayed at. Each night the nuns would come around and collect the animals, caging them in little cubbies. This metaphor grows into the entire essence of the book. Through hardship, pain, emotional rampage, Jennings learns that stuffed animals are not the only thing that is caged for protection.

The orphans are locked up during the night and also during the day. Forced to listen for a clicker to get them to line up for dinner or a clap of the hands to get them to line up for lunch. The orphanages were sometimes a blessing in comparison to the homes Jennings is lent out to, where he learns that love and compassion are hard to find, even if they can be found anywhere. He cages up his ability to say that he loves anyone. There are times when there is much love in the world and Jennings cannot bear to find it in him to speak the words because if he does, if he lets them escape, just like the stuffed animals or the orphans, he might get doubly hurt. Although she came home on Friday with five, count 'em, five prescriptions to take, she is much more comfortable here than there and she's breathing easier. So, I'm happy about that.

This week was also the last week of classes for the semester. I have a month to relax with the exception of going in for a final on Tuesday and a few more observation hours Tuesday night. Somehow I survived the week of a bajillion projects and stress. I pat myself on the back!!

This weekend I treated myself to going to my friends' house and partying it up. I got rather drunk last night, I'll admit it. We were singing Christmas carols, the Star Spangled Banner, and I was convinced one of my friends I was drunk dialing and texting was dead. He's not. It was nice to be able to relax with my extended family. I didn't get much sleep though. Only about four hours. Wait, this becomes relevant.

I woke up this morning to no hangover or nausea despite copious amounts of drinking. I thank Cod Liver Oil pills. Anywho, I drank some coffee, recovered my senses and headed home at 11. Not before one of my friends graced my backpack with a small amount of spontaneous vomit. Continuing on... Normally it takes me 45 minutes to get home. It took me FIVE HOURS!!!! Count 'em, five.

Freezing rain is the devil:

1st experience: Witnessed a seven car pile up on an overpass. I coasted to a stop on said overpass and waited to see an opening to pass through. When I scooted forward slightly my car didn't go FORWARD, it went SIDEWAYS. Like on a skating rink. Only it wasn't fun. Thankfully, no other cars were nearby. A state trooper, bless his little heart, helped me get my car off the overpass and moving onward. I traveled at an average of 10-15mph with my hazards on and terrified for more black ice.

2nd experience: Another accident, this time it wasn't witnessed, but it made my car sit at 0mph for about an hour. At this point I have fishtailed about four times. I got through that and was going really, really, reallyreallyreally well! Well meaning 25mph. Until...

3rd experience: A mile and a half from my exit traffic stops dead. I linger behind a blue Scion for two hours. TWWWWOOOOOO HOUUUURRRRRRS. Numerous phone calls were made. Especially to my, once thought dead, friend. Entertainment was low on the ground at that point. Most of that time was spent in silence, as I blearily gazed out my rain streaked windshield and realized more and more that I had nothing to eat but coffee that morning. Meanwhile, when it finally got moving, it was more like a slide and hope to stop sort of movement. Once I got off the exit and got home it was 4:10.

I've never experienced something so insane as that. Thought I should share.

Book Review: The Picture of Dorian Gray by - Oscar Wilde: I'm really not sure why a lot of people have not read this. It truly is a work that can only be appreciated when read and reread. This is my second time reading through the pages that Wilde weaves with this epigrams and curious cascading delight for words. Each sentence is as interesting and beautiful as the last as he speaks of sin conveyed in the most interesting of manners.

Truly, Dorian is a fall from grace. A Lucifer that could have looked upon what he would become if he had the choice. Perhaps the concept of the Devil hanging over Dorian's shoulder is what makes this story so interesting. Sin never weathers Dorian's face, he remains as beautiful as he was when he was in the prime of the human age. Only the tell-tale signs of age and sin and hate and cruelty are etched upon the portrait that Basil, a rather close friend of Dorian's, so intricately painted. It is an ugly thing that portrays every crime Dorian ever committed. Even, towards the end of the novel, when he wished to become 'good' the old sin cannot be washed away. Even so, Dorian cannot conform to the 'good life' and instead forces himself to an unknowing demise because he cannot cope with the prospect of living a wholesome life. He would have to give up the sweet taste of sin, that which he had known without reprimand for years.

I normally have one or two journals up during my school semester but I've been that busy. There's also been a lot of stress this semester. Not just school but other things as well. School has been a big part of it, though. I haven't really been in the best place but I'm pushing through. In fact, because of me the administration at the school is reviewing their outlook on accepting transfer credits. So, remember kids, if you don't get your way, complain your heart out. I still have a few weeks left and my Senior Comprehensive Exams are coming up. It's a two day test, three hours each day, and on everything I've ever read in my English classes. I'm not looking forward to it. It hasn't all been bad, I've done a few other things here and there to keep me sane, which isn't worth mentioning here. More importantly...

Anyways, so...it's been THREE YEARS since I joined dA! Seems like yesterday. I feel like I've become a fairly active part of the community, or as much as I can be. I try to look at/comment on nearly everything that comes into my devWATCH box, I do my book reviews, I feature, I even have a club! It's been a joy to be a part of this community and I'm looking forward to another set of years to come.

Another semester of pulling out hair and going nearly crazy. I have five classes, as usual but it's more like four since the Senior Comprehensive Exams count as three credits. I'm terrified of those Exams at the end of this semester. My other classes are: Linguistics of English, Medieval Literature, Literacy in the Content Areas and Literature for Adolescents. All except Medieval Lit is a four to five thousand level course. Lotsa work, lotsa reading. Which means, of course, that my dA time will be restricted.

I shall try my best to still comment on nearly EVERYTHING that comes in through my devWATCH box and to send out thank you's and the like for lotsa good stuff but it's all negligible. School work comes first dangit! Just to give you an idea: The last two days have been only two classes and I've already read over 200 pages. So, don't expect journals as often as usual or anything of the like. Sorry.

In other news: My birthday is tomorrow!!! Le gasp! I'm already stuffing my face full of birthday cake that my grandmother made for me. So, yeah...

Hiya! So I got back from Jersey two days ago and I caught up on my devWATCH box and my messages so that I could finally take some time to write a new journal.

Saturday was total awesomeness. We (as in me, my buddy Dena: ~DiabeticRockstar and her husband) went to Faire spontaneously. It was hotter than hot but I had a damn good time. Got myself some new garb and now I look supah spiffay! I'm actually going back tomorrow (despite bad weather on the way) with my sister and her boyfriend.

Then on Monday I drove down to Jersey and spent the last few days on our personal beach catching some personal rays and waves. Monday had to be, by far, the best day. The ocean was practically lake like and it was so enjoyable just to float out there and not have to worry about some monstrous wave coming from left field and crashing into you with vengeance!! My sister and I went out to the boardwalk that night and got trashed. We spent 17 dollars on drinks and left a 10 dollar tip. How could we get trashed on so little you ask? Well... For the first time in my life I started to get drinks bought for me. By males, of course. I think it was because I was cheering for the Giants so fervently even though it's Pre-Season that I became more attractive, I have no idea. I'm not going to complain. Free Jack and Cokes. No arguments here.

When we finally broke away from our free drinks my sister and I had the pleasure of walking about a mile and a half to two miles back to the house via the beach. We stumbled out there and took photos on Lifeguard chairs, debated sleeping in said Lifeguard chairs, cursed off the ocean, moths, and people setting fire to things on the beach. When we got back to the house everyone ELSE was trashed and we had a great time giggling mindlessly and creating lasting, drunken memories.

The rest of the week was blissfully free of such outrageous drunkenness and was spent relaxing and lounging. I also managed to catch a bolt of lightning on my camera!!! Hurray for pieces of crap cameras showing their true brilliance! I did not become irrevocably burnt which was also a plus and when I returned a nice big fuzzy box of goodies arrived from *Zhon! Like Christmas!!!

I have a week of reprieve from hell left to my sanity. The 31st my life becomes part of the college madness that I am dreading ohh-so-much. If I'm not around much anymore, if I'm not featuring, if I'm not writing journals, if I'm not responding--I'm not dead! Just a smidgen next door to it, glaring miserably at the stack of work that needs to be completed.

1) I found a goddamn...*many curse words*...rubber marking on my goddamn...*many curse words*...vehicle when I came out of my friends' house the other day. Most of it rubbed off and it's barely discernible now but I nearly had a fit over it. Not even a note left...nothing! Nobody ever takes responsibility for their actions and it drives me absolutely insane.

2) Still haven't gotten up to Faire but I plan on doing so either this weekend or next weekend or both. I need some turkey legggzzz!

3) Gremmi's kittens are doing well, I have to take care of them this weekend and they should be ready to go out to owners in another week or so. They are so super cute and I wish I could keep one but my mother is deathly allergic to cat fur so that's a no go.

4) I lost weight. About four pounds or so. I don't know how because I've been a lazy ass lately and have not been exercising like a good girl. Maybe I have a tapeworm.

5) My filling...y'know, that same one...? Yeah. Decided to vacate my mouth AGAIN!!! Once more the dentist did not charge me so that made me feel a bit better about it but I'm ready to rip the damn thing out and call it a day.

6) I will not be around next week...at all. I'm going to the shore and I will most likely be cowering in the shade with nothing but a book and hope that the UV index stays sane. Well, there's no internet access down there so it looks like I'm gonna be without you guys for a full week! Don't miss me too much!

Book Review: The Jungle by - Upton Sinclair: I always wanted to read this because of the fact that it's a classic and nearly everyone and their mother knows about Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle". I suppose it was not a good idea jumping from the satirical work of Vonnegut to the depressingly realistic work of Sinclair. Truly, one does not read this book for the story since Sinclair seems unable to make you feel, against your will, for the characters inside the book. I could not, for the life of me, feel much sympathy for the individual only for the masses of the early 1900s.

What is moving is the bleak, terribly real view of Chicago. The book was named well for the details it has to offer. Not only does Sinclair investigate the slaughterhouses but how every high-end, gold-lined pocket has its meandering tendrils around every corporation in the city. From buying houses, to going into saloons to drink ones sorrows away, to jail, to work and to the pain that everything eventually dishes out. There is sympathy for the millions of workers that slaved day in and day out for a few pennies to maybe buy a some food for their starving children.

I have to respect this book for what it did for the United States; open the eyes of ignorance to what was really happening in cities around the country and invoke change. But I certainly cannot read this for the connection with the characters.

Yep.

Yesterday was the Cheesecake Factory's National Cheesecake day! Any slice of cheesecake, half off! Needless to say, I went. Met a spiffy waiter who was very nice and had a nice conversation with me any mother. Yeah...she took off work for a few hours just to go. I truly love that place...despite its ridiculous calorie count and expensive prices.

After our lunch date, I went to Best Buy and bought Coraline and The Incredible Hulk. While waiting on line I got hit on. By, once again, a thirty year old. Do I look that friggin' old? Drives me crazy. He was also very, very blunt about it. An 'ohh do you have the time? You're gorgeous' kind of thing. I wanted to vomit on him and ask him how gorgeous I am now?

Annnyways. Went to the pet store, got bun-bun some stuff then got my hideously dirty car a wash and a waxing. 9 bucks. Not bad. Nearly got rear-ended on the way home...my car...nearly got rear-ended. Sheesh.

Now I'm eating the other half of my half-price cheesecake. And it's deeeeelish. Envy me. Actually, more importantly: I read a Kurt Vonnegut book in three days. It was good. Go read it.

Vonnegut. Is. Fantastic.

Book Review: Cat's Cradle by - Kurt Vonnegut: Kurt Vonnegut's creation of the Cat's Cradle is a satirical, comical and yet strikingly frightening take on the human condition and here it will, inevitably, lead us. He is extremely misleading in his simplistic, choppy, writing style that gives the opportunity for anybody and anybody who has a small amount of reading skill to pick this volume up and consume it. Though its simplicity is comforting the words spelled out in the metaphorical between-space of each line tells an entirely different tale.

Vonnegut picks apart aspects of family and love, religion and war, science and government so well that this book is absolutely worthy of reading several times over. The most important aspect that he delves into is the concept of science. Is anyone else out there frightened of science and its ability to make new and 'better' technologies at such a phenomenal rate that eventually, inevitably, somebody is going to mess it up? Ice-nine, the scientific creation that seems like it would be a work of genius is, in fact, a work of stupidity that eventually leads to destruction and chaos. Science dooms as well as heals. Seemingly, Vonnegut ties this aspect into all his other lessons. Family, love, religion, war, science and government all heals as well as dooms those associated with it. A positively fantastic story by a complicated, yet clear-as-day, author.

I spent the 20th (which was her birthday) to the 24th with =EvilFire4321 again. She's off to Vancouver for school and her visitations may be sporadic, at best. It was good to hang out with her and get food shoved at me left and right. I got her the Boondock Saints for her b-day! I think I might be visiting in Van next summer with her family if I can scrounge up enough money. It also depends on if she comes home or not. If she does we have a whole list of things that we are going to do next summer! A year away and we're already planning.

One of the best parts of the trip was going to the Eastern State Penitentiary. I had a ball taking photographs despite the overcast/rainy weather. All the abandoned bed frames and stuff was great! Anything with crumbling walls! I hope they don't bore you all when I start submitting them.

Perhaps the oddest part was her mother playing Matchmaker after I left. Y'know...with a man who is 8 years older than me. No can do. All well, apparently it's a sign that her mother likes me.

I have to deal with some family issues this week and I'm kind of nervous about dropping myself headfirst into this problem. For privacy reasons I won't type out the issue here, simply because it'd be boring for you.

Renaissance Faire starts up soon but everyone seems to be busy opening weekend. We'll see how it goes.

Book Review: Toxin by - Robin Cook: I read this book many years ago after borrowing it from my grandmother's library. It did not make me a vegetarian but it definitely has made me more conscientious about the meat I consume. To this day, I refuse to eat much hamburger or ground meat that is manufactured by large industries. I have officially reread it and I now have the upsetting renewal to stay away from all hamburger or ground meat made by said industries. The story is harrowing as well as completely possible. Hell, it's already happened. The fear of E. coli and its effects is an ever-impending, dismaying concept that plagues the United States. In recent years, E. coli and its many versions has not only affected meats but other resources as well, making many individuals extremely ill with relatively few symptoms until it is a full-blown disaster. The book focuses around a fictitious, but sadly realistic case of a particularly deadly strand of E. coli finding its way into the daughter of Dr. Kim Reggis. A vendetta endeavor begins with stomach-churning results. Great drama, a great flow to the story and sickeningly true.

My only dislikes for this book is the language in which the individuals speak, since it seems forcibly contrived and far too heavy. I also dislike the unreal connection Tracy and Kim eventually rediscover. I feel it would have been a more appropriate ending if it had not dipped ever-so-slightly into the romantic genre. Went out with my sister a few times this past week and then the past two days have been occupied with my friend visiting from New Jersey. It was quite fun and I'm happy she got to come up. Apparently, I'll be back down there next week so we'll see how that goes. I'll also, hopefully, be seeing some Lancaster friends soon after said return venture to Jersey. I'm hoping to slip in a Six Flags trip sometime soon so that I can get my yearly dose of adrenaline junkie goodness.

In other news I passed that certification exam I took last month. The passing score is 220 and I got 266. I hope it's out of 300 (I'll get detailed results soon)--'cause seriously...? That score is pathetic. It's really kind of depressing.

Book Review: Killers of the Dream by - Lillian Smith: I find that this is a great sister novel to The Education of a WASP by Lois Mark Stalvey. Both take a very particular point of view that is relative to their personal lives and instead create a voice that speaks out to a world of oppression and hate. What I like most about Smith's book is that not only does it encompass the problem of racism but it also touches on gender equality and sexual equality in a strategic manner. As it should, considering hate, when boiled down to the core, stems from the same truths despite whatever 'ism' you are dealing with. Smith intricately weaves metaphors and similes into her writing so effortlessly that one can easily get lost in her prose rather than her goal. Other than that, the reading is explanatory, clear, focused and affixed on a goal that could be eradicated if a few minds could just bother to change. Worth the read, especially when accompanied by the previously mentioned Stalvey book.

I took him to the vet on Friday to get him checked out and to get a personal opinion as to whether or not I should travel to PA for the weekend and leave him alone. As she was examining him she realized just how spunky he was and she told me that when I told her how much he actually consumed of the plastic that she really didn't think he was going to make it. At all. But, he fooled us!! Highlander seems to be battling and battling well! He was so spunky that he actually started growling at her! It was HYSTERICAL! Bunny growls have to be the funniest noise ever. The vet said that I could most likely leave him to eat and poop on his own so I was able to have an enjoyable Fourth of July weekend without having to be caring for the Highlander.

My buddies, Dena and Eugene, and I went down to Eugene's Uncle's house in Pennsylvania. Where, unknowable to me, I was within a small amount of miles of ~mtsofan. If we ever go back down there and I have my own car, I'll swing by and give a holler. We got down there on Saturday and proceeded to drink, have a good time, watch fireworks, have more of a good time, drink some more, etc. It was very relaxing and I was glad to be out of the house. We slept over, spent a good majority of the afternoon there and traveled home. Upon arriving back in NY, I found my arms, face and, oddly, my feet burned. A tolerable burn to say the last but it was interesting that my feet, as opposed to any part of my leg which had the same exact sun time as everything else did not burn. I swear, this Irish skin is about as reliable as the weathermen. Though, I must admit, they've been dead on lately. Rain, rain, rain. We were blessed enough to not have a smidgen of rain this past weekend which made the experience all that more enjoyable.

Needless to say, things are going well and I was glad to have a good weekend and that Highlander isn't at death's door anymore. I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend if they celebrate it here in the U.S.!

Anyways. The reason for such odd activity is for several reasons. One was that I was in Jersey for five days with very limited time to do anything but run around and have a good time, as seen in my last journal. When I got back on Wednesday night I had two somewhat normal days and then Saturday I was scooped up by my friends to hang out all day. That's the end of my happy preoccupation.

Now for the sad part. On Sunday I was just hanging out at home not really doing much and not intending to get online until later in the night. I went into the animals room to turn off lights and give a goodnight pat to Highlander when I realized he was extremely lethargic. (For those who do not know who Highlander is, shame on you if you don't, he can be found here: [link] ). He wasn't hopping around being the psychopath he normally is. Instead he was laying down in a corner and when I picked him up and put him on my lap he laid down there too. I offered him his FAVORITE treat and he wanted nothing to do with it. I examined his cage and realized the potential problem.

We have painter's plastic which is a light, billowy plastic that painters put down on floors or over furniture so that paint doesn't get on anything but the walls, under his cage to catch stray bedding, hay, etc. The air conditioner apparently blew said plastic just a smidgen into his cage where he proceeded to tug on it and consume about one and a half feet of plastic. Needless to say, I brought him to the emergency vet clinic. It was about 8 o'clock when I left.

Long story short, his stomach is very much enlarged and he has quite a bit of 'stuff' in his stomach and intestines that could be food matter and/or plastic. Two hours and five hundred dollars later, I brought bunny home. Surgery is far too much money so we're hoping that the liquid diet I'll be giving him along with pain meds and laxatives will help him pass some if not all the plastic along. If that doesn't happen the other option is the thousands of dollars for surgery and I just can't do that. Which of course means the bad...evil...terrible option of putting him down.

I am EXTREMELY upset and terrified for him. I get little bouts of tears that are infinitely annoying because of the thoughts swirling around in my head. I hope he can get better on his own...I mean, his name is Highlander. He's gotta stick it out and be tough! Maybe he can do this. I'm not getting my hopes up.

Book Review: Nemesis by: Isaac Asimov: This is the very first Asimov book I have ever read and perhaps it was not the greatest choice out of the hundreds he has written in his lifetime. Although it was a fairly decent story the ending was a bit too neat and tidy to live up to its name. With a title like 'Nemesis' it better be that. Unfortunately for me, I felt like the entire book was a build-up of nothing and quite a slow progression of effects. Although it was written well I found myself thinking if 'he did this...' or if 'he did that...' it would be a better tale. Also, I was strikingly surprised by the amount of detail left out with...well...everything. It was like reading a script for a film where all you need to pay attention to is the dialogue. Regardless, I liked the writing and the concept even if the ending fell back into a neat little description of just who and what is a Nemesis. First and foremost I would like to explain the hilarity of the fact that =EvilFire4321 is tone stupid. You can go and tell her that, too, if you'd like.

Anyways, I was far from bored down in Jersey and we did lots of fun stuff while simultaneously making fun of each other. We went to an archery range twice where the men working there will most likely remember us forever. Especially Gary. We hung out with EF's cousins, her art teacher and her neighbors. Her neighbor provided us with much entertainment and a place to crash for a night so that I could gain my equilibrium back and I could consume some Dr. Jack and spread the goodness to he masses! Attempting to fit a small fridge into my trunk will forever be cackle worthy. That and running lights to get my ass to the ninja diner where I provided much entertainment to young'uns as I secretly berated the waitress and caught klutzes with my arms and, unfortunately, my feet. We went into Chinatown in Philly where I felt like the ONLY person well over five feet! We went to malls where I seemed to know the entirety of the bookstore collection and all the trivia that goes along with it. I went to her (EF's) Graduation ceremony with Nana which lasted quite a few hours and we stood the entire...damn...time. That's love. It's okay, there was a HOT HOT HOT photographer there with some DAMN fine legs. THROW YER DAMN HATZ!!!

We watched movies and went to the Philly zoo which was so friggin' small but had some pretty nice, open, exhibits for de aminals. Aafrikan Woild Dawgs and the Cheeeeeeeetaaahs. We went out to dinner where table paper became the scene for much enjoyment by two talented artists...obviously not me. EF and her mother sneaked in cheesecake for me and we watched Transformers 2 and drooled over the Autobot and Decepticon goodness. After which I bid a speedy retreat, destroyed some Jersey drivers and returned home last night at about 10.

This was seriously just to document my experience because DAYUM was it ever an experience. I'm doing well and I'm sorry for not being around the last couple days but there was so much to DOOOOO!!!! Nana and EF are both such lovely, talented, fun people and I them mucho! There's many an inside joke now and I'm glad I was able to get down there. I hope to do so again!

When I showed up at the school there was no parking so I had to drive around and park on a side road. It came to the point where I thought I would be late for the exam so I just parked and ran for the facility. So, while taking the exam I was convinced I was going to go back to a car that was either being towed or had a ticket on it. That, or if it was gone because the neighborhood was none too friendly. Along with that the room was freezing and I was wet from running in the rain. Yay. Along with that the seats were extremely uncomfortable, the proctor was a shifty, noisy fool and there was an older man that continually stared at me throughout the exam. It got to the point that at the end of the exam I threw my hands up at the ordeal and plowed through the rest as well as I possibly could. Thankfully my car was waiting for me, still in one piece, and without a ticket tucked under the windshield.

Sunday was a slightly better day. I went to my father's and had an AWESOME meal. Tearing apart crab really vents ones frustrations. Then my sister and I filled thermoses with alcohol and went to the park to watch a rather dull sunset but a sunset none the less.

Today was totally awesome. I got to go to the zoo! I got some decent shots and as soon as I find the time to load 'em on the comp and do everything I need to to make them look presentable I'll start putting them up. My feet now hurt, but it's a good hurt.

Tomorrow is the damn dentist again for him to putz around with my teeth again. All well.

Then, FRIDAY, I am going to JERSEY!!!! Where I will be hanging out for several days with =EvilFire4321 and mixing up all kinds of trouble in the process. I'm not sure how often I'll be on during this time so bear with me. I'm sure we'll be consistently on at least once a day but I don't know what she has planned. Woot, woot!

http://Rheazblaze.deviantart.com/journal/25222103/ Tue, 09 Jun 2009 17:43:24 PDT The most I've ever had done to my teeth are fillings to keep cavities at bay. Too much sweetness. Well, not anymore. Now I have some concerns.

Since I went to a new dentist, they took x-rays to see what has already been done to my teeth and possibly what needs to be done. By the end of the exam I found out that I needed some new fillings, one that would have to be made out of porcelain and cost me over 600 dollars, and I also got the news that I have a tumor. It's benign, but a tumor. The dentist asked me, and I quote, "Has anyone ever told you that you have a Cementoma?" Well, no...I'd remember if I was told! What bothered me was that I have gone to a dentist all my life and he apparently never deemed it worthy enough to look for such a thing or to tell me.

So, for those who are wondering what it is, it's a small build up of Cementum at the bottom of the roots of one of my molars. It looks like a mini M&M on the x-ray, and it's COMPLETELY visible even to someone like me who isn't trained to read an x-ray. Again, how could my old dentist miss this? So, yeah...what it does is sit and build up (hopefully it doesn't invite its friends) and it could eventually kill the molar above it and/or deform my jaw. I really, really, reallyreallyreally don't need a tooth pulled and an implant put in its place in my twenties. Whatever. It's benign so it's not going to off and kill me and it's self-limiting so hopefully it won't get any more evil then it already is by this time.

Reagardless, life goes on and hopefully these pearly whites will hold up just fine.

In other news, I have a certification exam, one of (I believe) four that I have to take, this Saturday. I feel like I'm going to fail the damned thing because it has not only English but History, Math and Science questions on it. It costs 88 dollars to take. It's PAPER!!!! 88 damn dollars. And if I fail it I have to pay another 88 to take it in another month. People say I'm smart, but I'm not. I may put up the facade that I'm smart but I really don't have the brains up in here. We'll have to see how it goes. I'm sure I'll be yapping about how terrible it was next week.

The main goal of this journal is awareness. I was coming back from my dad's house on Sunday and I live in a very hilly area. I came up over a hill and at the bottom of it I saw a Wheaten Terrier trotting along down the street by itself. I pulled over, rolled down the window and started talking to it. It just stared at me so I kept with the 'cute' voice and then said "c'mere" and the dog trotted on over so I opened the door and the dog started to immediately wag its tail and sniff around. I checked for tags and thankfully he had them, his name was Teddy and he lived on the other side of the block. Apparently he wanted to go for a stroll since it was such a nice day. He was covered in dry leaf matter since his fur is so long and I was loathe to put him in my car but I did. Drove him back to his house and the owner came out saying, "He was just laying outside all nice and I went inside and completely forgot about him." Now...I ask you all out there in the internet world...how the HELL do you just FORGET your dog is outside? I was thanked extensively, told it was very nice of me to do and I left.

I've averaged about one dog a year, saving them that is. I've saved six thus far and they have all, thankfully, been friendly. The worst one I came in contact with was a large Labrador that refused to want to go home but eventually cornered he came quietly. I know one day I'll most likely get bit but whatever. EVERY time I save a dog I either walk or drive it back to its home and I'm thanked extensively (once I was offered some iced tea because it was about...ohh, I'd say...300 degrees that day) but their excuses fall short. It's always about a back door being left open, forgetfulness, gates remaining unlocked, etc. It's tragic because these people love their pets and I know that they would be devastated to find out that their dog was dead because of negligence. Just like a child, people need to learn to be more careful with locking things, closing doors and keeping their pets lovingly confined.

You may say children are less likely to run off and that may be true but it's because dogs suddenly see a squirrel or another dog or they smell something and off they go and then they can't find their way back to their home. Please, everyone, just be careful and do try and stop for animals if you see them walking alone. Stay in your car until you get a friendly or an uncaring reaction and if the hackles go up or the dog stands its ground and stares you down, if the tail gets real stiff then back off. And of course, if it starts growling at ya I'd think you should just get back in your car. 'Kay. End rant.

Book Review: Childhood's End by: Arthur C. Clarke: This masterful display of writing has once more captivated not only my interest but my psychological and mental capacity fit for fascinating inferences and a dynamic set of revelations all from the cunning words of Clarke.
Clarke's writing is just about as outstanding as the tales he weaves. He gives a full-circle compliment of thought, not only allowing for thoughts to repeat themselves in characters but also in the readers own mind. Each time the revelation happens, a little bit more is understood. Although this short but engrossing tale reflects a kind of god of all gods science fiction theory it is the inferences beneath this theory that truly shines through. What are humans, truly, but mere life forms set on a particular world amongst incomprehensible numbers? And what is it that we will leave behind, if anything? The title speaks volumes.

I had a mild cold this past week that had all but receded despite my severely sore throat. Friday night I could barely talk, swallow liquids, let alone eat. It felt like somebody had shoved a marble down the left side of my throat and left it there. My gland felt like a throbbing, hard as a rock, mass. Needless to say, it began effecting my ear and my head, giving me a constant headache. Saturday morning I woke up to pains in my stomach because I had barely eaten anything worth digesting in the past two days. And so, I hauled ass to the doctor.

Hurray for viral infections. The doctor shook his head at the lump in my throat and prescribed good ol' Amoxicillin 500mg, three times a day for ten days. I tell ya, even though its the most stereotypical drug out there for curing ailments, the stuff works wonders. I feel nigh 80% better today than I did Saturday morning. This, however, does not stop me from being thoroughly depressed about a weekend ruined from sickness.

Regardless, enough with the anger. I hope everyone's Memorial Day weekend is going well and that you are enjoying it much more than I have!

I apparently went to town on my finals like no other. I couldn't believe it, especially with the stress that I was going through. Having gone through quite a bit of stress last semester as well I begin to wonder if I work better under stressful conditions. Regardless, I don't think it would be quite good for my health to continue in a stressful circumstance for the rest of my life just to perform well. No, sir.

Anyways, update on Gokai. She still has approximately eight eggs left in her but she is eating and acting normally and doesn't seem to be straining so I'm just gonna let her do her thing. I'm sure she'll eventually pass these bad boys, even if it takes a while longer than expected.

Book Review: 2001: A Space Odyssey by: Arthur C. Clarke. This novel is simply timeless. I doubt, while humans are still around to read it, this novel will ever lose its stark truth and its even more abysmal future for mankind. It touches on many different aspects of human nature and our uncanny ability to just kind of 'mess things up'. It poses a question of intelligence and what that really means for us and for the rest of not only the world but the universe as well.
Hal is just one example of our audacity for intelligence, our menacing show of what we think is right to accomplish. Even the expedition is what seems right, what seems just, and even the explorers were deceptively kept in the metaphorical dark about this mission. It is a chilling reminder of timeless existence of what we are and what we do and its similar consequences. Anybody of 'intelligence' should definitely pick this story up and give it a read.

In the mean time, I plan on giving updates more often and start doing some features again. So excited!

Just to do a recap of what has happened over the past two months:
My dad was put into the hospital for a week after getting a prostate biopsy which gave him an E. Coli infection in his blood that I think he only recently got off the antibiotics for. Nothing like visiting a father in the hospital every day. No bueno.
I was given the opportunity to work on an Honors Thesis project at school so I have obviously taken hold of the challenge and intend to start working on this beast during the summer months.
My snake, Gokai, recently started laying eggs. She's having a lot of trouble and has been sucking my bank account dry with going to the vet but she seems to be doing okay for right now. So far, in the past week, she has passed 18 eggs and there are supposedly still eight left in her! They are infertile but I wish these bad boys were fertile so I could make lots of little snakes! Especially since her father is an albino! I wouldn't even know where to start with breeding so I'm just thinking about it out loud. Yeup!

That's really it. No cool stuff to talk about because I am lame. Hopefully I'll be more conclusive during the next installment at some point. ...No, probably not.

Book Review: The Lost History of the Canine Race by: Mary Elizabeth Thurston.
My uncle bought me this book when I was younger when I was literally obsessed with animals. Nothing much has changed and I only now recently picked it up to reread it. I am positively intrigued about the history of dogs in relation to human beings. It is a very definitive and placidly argumentative book pointed towards the notorious connection between humans and their dogs.
It's interesting how the author takes a perspective of human history in relation to how we have viewed our pets and how intertwined our thoughts have become with the canine race. Even if somebody is mildly interested in dogs and their evolution through the centuries in relation to humans they should pick up this book. Opinion is left at the curbside and fact is presented in an easy to read format that is not only truly realistic but also down right fascinating for any curious reader.

It's ever so annoying.

Anywho, life has been okay, I can't have much room to complain so I shall sing the praises of another! =morbidthegrim, an excellent photographer (and very articulate writer, if I could be so bold), is holding something called a "Progress Competition". It is super awesome and I took part in the last one. Basically, you can submit two pieces of the same medium (but it can be ANY medium, so two photography pieces, two poems, two drawings, etc...) and selected judges will come to a decision on who has made the most PROGRESS. Not which are prettier, but who has progressed the most. For more information you can look at his lovely journal: [link] I wish to note, however, that he is NOT, NOT, NOT accepting thumbs just yet. So hold off on submitting until you get the go ahead!

In regards to this competition, I call upon you all for help! I'm my own worst critic, as I'm sure a lot of you are to yourselves so I request your assistance! I know my gallery is on the gigantic side of the spectrum but I was hoping that some of you could come up with some viable options for my progress. Regardless, there's not much to say about it, the professors are okay (except for one) and my schedule isn't vicious. That's about it.

Concerts!!! Much better subject! I went to two Metallica concerts in the past week, within three days of each other. One on Thursday, the other on Saturday. The one on Thursday was okay. We were in the stands and I was with my ex and his friends, so it was a little weird. Thankfully, not much conversation happens at a concert. It kind of sucked having to drive home from Long Island and get up to go to school in the morning the next day. I got home at around 1:30, I was still pumped and got to sleep at around 3:00 only to wake up and go to class all day. Murder.

The Saturday concert was perhaps a thousand times better. I was on the floor, two people away from the stage. I had such a great time and I would go again if I had the opportunity. There were some general assholes who deemed it worthy to start a pit whether or not people were willing to join in or not. A few elbows to the ribs kept them away. I'm here to watch the show...not to watch you swing your arms around like a goddamned monkey. Anywho, the show itself was phenomenal and even though I was thiiiiiiiiiissss close to getting a pic, I did get a high five from Robert Trujilo, their bass guitarist. That memory will never, ever escape me.

Superbowl!! So, of course, Superbowl was RIGHT after my Saturday concert, so I was all beat up and my voice was hoarse but that did not stop me from showing my undying support for the Steelers. Yes, even though I'm a New Yorker I am a Steelers fan. Of course, I'm also a Giants fan. Anywho, I must commend the Cardinals, they put up one hell of a fight and they played very well. I could have done without the sixty thousand penalties called every second because football players have to show off their manliness with disorderly conduct. Regardless, I'm a happy camper and I even made a bit of money off of the 10 dollar pool my family had going.

So, that's all for now, I think. I'm stopping the features for the semester since my journals will be erratic and it won't be fair if I have certain features up longer than others. Sorry!

My little 2002 was starting to give me trouble and my mother was worried I'd be starting the unfortunate process of putting too much money into the vehicle. So, she took it upon herself to get an estimate at a few dealerships and finally found somebody worth dealing with. We got a great price for it and so she traded it in and decided to purchase the new car.

I picked it up this morning and it had all of four miles on it and it was B-E-A-utiful!! All these great features and, I tell ya, there's nothing like that new car smell. My friend, Amy, christened the vehicle with a few pennies and I did a little joy riding. Drives like a dream !!!

I kind of miss my little Batmobile but it's long gone and as much as I miss it I find myself falling a little bit in love with this new Honda every time I get into it. So, I don't think it'll take long to get over my separation anxiety. There are a few things I need to get used to and/or over first. All in good time!

I have a dull feeling my 3.9 GPA last semester helped this purchase. I could be wrong.

I hope it tapers off once school arrives, considering I'm so tired from mental work that my physical body is just not willing to shovel. It's bad enough I have a cruddy shoulder to begin with. Blah! I say, blah!

Book Review: The Metamorphosis, In the Penal Colony, and Other Short Stories by: Franz Kafka: A positively fascinating collection of short stories by good ol' Franz Kafka. The fascination and the horror of these stories is positively captivating. The Metamorphosis, In The Penal Colony and The Hunger Artist become something more than just curious entities that were written before our time. They become metaphors and interesting takes on society and the so-called humanity of human nature. Meanwhile, the stories are just as current as they were when they were written.

It has been a year of tears but also a year of smiles and I think dA has really kept me going.

It's surely known that I submit, almost always, one deviation per day. Something about that consistency has allowed me to come here as a safe haven. It has allowed me to arrive and to put shot after shot up, regardless if it's looked at or not. Perhaps it's because of that, my activity in clubs, or my relentless need to and comment that I have received 10,000 views before the new year! I was so happy to see that and I couldn't believe my eyes. I thank every single one of you that have stuck with me and kept me going here with your constant support.

In other news, my car still isn't working properly and I have a bit of a cold. Not a very good start to the New Year, but on the up side I did get to see Avenue Q on Broadway on Friday. It was HYSTERICAL!!! I loved it. I am so glad I was able to go.

Book Review: The Killer Angels by: Michael Shaara: Quite a good book. I personally love historic fiction over history books. If they are based mostly on fact, you can really see the impact of the wars and tribulation that communities and armies had to go through. It is not a great surprise that The Killer Angels is moving and compassionate. Men aren't just fighting against men at Gettysburg, they are fighting against friends. People they grew up with. Moving sentences that suggest that you forget what you're fighting 'for' in the war when you're in the thick of it, watching your fellows disappear from this earth around you is a moving thought to those that can and never will experience an old world fighting style.

War is a much different story during the present day. You don't see the expressions of those you kill, you don't know their names, or their families. At Gettysburg, the immense weight of personal kinship threatens to tear hard Generals and Colonels apart. A great, great read for anyone that would like to know a little bit more about what happened at Gettysburg or to learn about a little bit of human compassion.

Book Review: The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger: A great read for any age. It really makes you remember or really helps you have a kind of camaraderie with Holden. It is a deceptive book in that its main time scheme only takes a glimpse of Holden's life over a few days in his life where a million memories of previous experiences adds up to where he is at 'today'. It is a book about finding oneself, about finding ones place and realizing that it isn't all about sticking to the norms and what society wants you to be.

I'm not sure. It's an odd feeling. I just wish I could get in my car, drive somewhere and have somewhere to stay where I won't have to pay a hotel (like a friends house). Money for food would be a problem, but the urge to leave is overwhelming it. I really don't know what to do. It's becoming more and more frequent. Like I just need a week to not have to be in New York. I dunno.

The snow fall today hasn't helped the mood, either. If you're a frequent deviation comment reader of mine, then you know why.

So, even though there is a decent amount of snow covering this wonderland and the driveway and it all has to be shoveled by me I cannot help but feel slightly elated. I just received my grades back for this past semester. I got a 3.9!!!!! I can't believe it, it's my first 3.9 ever and it's all mine. Makes me feel like treating myself to that urge even more, even though I know it's somewhat unattainable.

Regardless of the odd mood, I am so pleased that I got A's this semester and that I can sit here and calmly grin and hope I can keep it up!

Book Review: The Pigman by Paul Zindel: I haven't read this in years, ever since I was a Freshman in High School. It's just one of those books about two teenagers learning to grow and to learn control, meanwhile in the act of discovery. It's teenage life in a small nutshell. Lies, fun, stepping over lines that are clearly drawn in the sand, rebellion from the family and the all-pressing upset about 'not being understood'. A great book for young readers attempting to find themselves and find out why they want to do with themselves on a day to day basis. Lovely little look into the eyes of a teenager and remembering exactly what it used to be like.

Every student who is an English major must take the Senior Comprehensive Exams at some point before graduating. Naturally, they must pass said exams. My friend Katie took them this semester and told me about how there is a party at one of the professors' homes after the Comps. I read the invite she received and it said 'significant others most welcome'. I joked with her saying I should be her significant other, but of course, she would just bring Adam, her boyfriend. Turns out Adam had to work until six that night so she wound up telling me to go along. I did not hesitate to do so.

Even though I knew all the professors, and most of the students, at the party it was all in great fun drinking with my teachers and joking about particular subjects.

Two of my professors both recommended that I should crash all the other parties I could go to. I said I would happily oblige.

Today was my first real day away from school and I spent it building the bitchiest bookshelf in the world. Took me three hours to build and now its slightly tilted. I really don't care. It looks like I fought with it, which, of course, I did. However, it fought back. I cracked my head pretty hard on one of the sides, my shoulder could scream bloody murder if it had a mouth and my lower back seems to have decided to be 80 years old today.

On the plus side, plans are building up to hang out with family and friends during this month of freezing fresh air and I intend on making the best of my time away from the daily grind of college life.

Ohh, and I have zero money...Christmas shopping is LOUSY!!!!

Firstly, Friday night I was able to hang out with my good friends, Dena, Eugene and Danny. At one point we also got to see Justin. What was important here is that they made me laugh, they gave me hugs, we were able to eat food and ice cream and be happy for the time I was with them. They were completely understanding of my situation and they waited for me to talk about what happened.

Secondly, Saturday I got to spend the entire wet, dreary, muddy afternoon at a horse barn where my friend Katie works. Just walking around and meeting the horses and cleaning, or attempting to clean in my case since it was my first time, Katie's horse was really fun. We got to have lunch, laugh and discuss school business and get muddy. Something about being around animals always makes me happy! I'm a big animal lover and I'm not often around horses so when I get the chance to pet them and talk to them and make Katie and others laugh it makes me feel better!

Today my body was so damn tired from being out in the dreary weather that I was able to enjoy a relatively worry free day. What is possibly even better is that I got to talk to my ex today. We have generally decided to stay friends, that to lose each other as friends is not worth it. We'll see how it goes. One step at a time. I am surprisingly relaxed and tranquil and I hope to stay this way for as long as I can.

And of course, with one bad thing comes another. My boyfriend and I have decided to call it quits. Our compatibility has lessened as of late and just like some friends don't work out as friends, some boyfriends or girlfriends don't work in the same way. Mark and I have a lot of similarities but quite possibly double the differences. Needless to say, I'm hurting. It is never easy to turn your back on somebody that you've known for four years but it is also something that we had to do.

Like all things there are ups and there are downs to the situation. We won't fight anymore and therefore there won't be massive stressful situations to deal with. I'll have a bit more time for school work than usual. On the other hand, I lost a great friend. I don't have many friends in the immediate vicinity. Who will I go to movies with? Who will I play video games with and joke around with? No more Six Flags trips, no more random drives, no more going out to eat just to laugh at other people. It is hard to give him up and know that he isn't going to be coming back. I guess that's life. I'll push ahead like I always do and hopefully be the better for it when the pain and that heavy choking feeling vacates.

More importantly are the people that 'came to my rescue' here on dA. I have never felt such an outpouring of concern and caring by any group of people in my life. What is even more amazing is that none of these people even know me! But they genuinely give their advice and their comfort when I was in need. You are all positively phenomenal individuals who will always hold that special place in my heart. You all helped me in different ways that were unique and entirely special to you. Thankfully, now, they can be special to me as well. The biggest of thank-you's to: *justeline, ~sweetiepie0900, ~timseydell, ~Yumi07, *Konjuku, ~mtsofan and ~H3120-X. You guys were the ones that showed continual support and said things that stuck monumentally in my mind. I hope I can repay you all one day.

In other news, lots of stuff has been happening and will start happening in the next few weeks/months. For all that are interested, my friend *Zhon has provided generously for my curiosity streak that emerges every so often and needs to be sated. I have received a whole plethora of furs and bones and I plan on making an all natural cloak and making little bitty bone animals. She has requested that I make a dragon for her, and I hope that if/when I start it that it comes out looking like one. I'm not as creative as I sound. It'll probably wind up looking like a bone blob.

Halloween is soon and I hope to wear my furs with pride this upcoming October 31st/November 1st IF I'm not swamped with college work. Any Halloween plans for any of you guys?

Not sure what else to talk about, I mainly just wanted that whole journal about Al off my main page. So, now it's gone.

A person who was something similar to a grandfather towards me has passed away no more than a few hours ago. The piece of garlic bread I was chewing in my mouth when I heard started to taste like tape, my smile of the joke that was just said vanished, my eyes became cloudy and everything turned to gray (dedication to the color scheme of *justelines journal).

No matter how much time was spent in the hospital, I still had hope for him. He's gone now, but he won't suffer any more. I'll try and clear my head and be strong so I can pass these tests that are coming this week, that I can write my papers and continue with life. I'll cry my share and take the next step because I can just hear him right now, whispering in my ear, "Wha the fuck are you doin'..? Get ON with it!"

I had been beating myself up for a while about not being able to get good Metallica tickets for their upcoming show here in NY in January. We are pretty much all going to have nosebleeds since we're so high up. Well, I found out through several phone calls today that my buddy KC was going to go to a show in Jersey with his girlfriend, Lauren, her brother, Stan and their mutual friend, Keith. Lauren did NOT want to go. So I got her ticket. They are floor, general admission, tickets!!!! Granted, I had to, of course, pay for it, but I get to see Metallica...UP CLOSE!!!! Not only that, I'll be seeing them twice in three days. I had to drop about 200 dollars on this so I'm really in need of money. PLUS I have a wedding to go to this Saturday.

At least I'll be happy at the end of January!! I am so very, very, very excited!!!

Ohh, and for all of you that go to Faire, get a 'beesting'. Buy a beer, drink a little of it and then mix their mead in with it. Tasty stuff!

Six Flags was absolutely exhilarating and my ears only bothered me a little. So far I think Nitro was overthrown from 'Diane's favorite ride' spot. El Toro has kicked it away. For a wooden roller coaster, it was absolutely phenomenal! The first drop scared the living day lights out of me. Kingda Ka was a bit out of this world. I was positively nauseous sitting there waiting for us to shoot out at 128 miles per hour in three and a half second. It didn't help that I had read a sign before getting on the ride that said that SOMETIMES the roller coaster doesn't make it all the way to the top, at which point it will reverse and go back down to the starting part. This is normal. No thank you. I was terrified. The ride itself was great, I think I left my stomach back at the launch pad though. The VIEW was completely worth it! And yes, we made it over the top. On our way out of the park I saw what would have happened if we didn't and I screeched a little. Just a tiny bit.

Riverhead and Mark's block party was oodles of fun, regardless of the myriad of bug bites I acquired on my feet and ankles.

So far, I've been to four of my five classes (the fifth is tomorrow) and I had to purchase thirty-three books for the four English classes I'm taking. Needless to say, I will not be around as often as I normally am and my chat time will be grossly inhibited. My journals will be limited and no features will be here until I have time to dedicate to them. I will, regardless, still attempt to submit that one deviation per day!

I've still got to see Nightwish with Dena and Eugene in Philadelphia on Friday. Leaving Thursday night to Dena's parents' house in Jersey, coming back to NY on Saturday! Sunday will be spent at my 'Aunt and Uncle's house for my birthday/Labor Day celebration. Tuesday is my physical birthday (ze 2nd). I'll be all 22 and junk.

Then, for the next few months of my life I'll be nose deep in a book or learning Calligraphy. Sweet bejeezus.

Tomorrow I'm going to Renaissance Faire with my buddies Dena ( ~DiabeticRockstar ) and her hubby-to-be Eugene. I'm not dressing up (as I usually do) because my dress is ripped and it was a piece of crap anyways, and my boots were shrunk by a certain persons negligence. I simply don't have the funds to buy new garb.

Sunday I'm going to my 'Aunts' house for a party and a barbeque which is always entertaining and loads of fun.

Monday is getting together with a friend from High School and then that night I'm driving down to Long Island to my boyfriend so that we can have our heart explode from excitement for on Tuesday we're going to SIX FLAGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It better not fucking rain or I'll kill things that are cute. We hope it doesn't rain, we don't mind a little but if it's viciously raining it would be a big bummer. I'm not going on Kingda Ka when giant sized raindrops are hitting my face at over 120 miles per hour.

The 23rd I'm going out to Riverhead to visit my Uncle and then spending Sunday with my boyfriend and trying to seep up every last bit of freedom I can get. For on Monday I start school. HOWEVER!!!! Thursday night I'm going to Jersey with my Dena and Eugene to Dena's parents' house and I'm skipping one class on Friday and we're going to a concert in Philadelphia (seeing Nightwish ) and then sleeping off the concert. We'll be returning to NY on Saturday and probably hanging out. So, even if school is starting up again it will surely be an exciting start.

On top of that September 2nd is my birthday so that Sunday I'll probably be back at my 'Aunts'/'Uncles' house celebrating.

Don't expect as many journals/features or activity on here as the past couple months, considering it was my summer break. I hope to still be around, though!

Book Review: "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" by J.K. Rowling. Even though "The Prisoner of Azkaban" is one of my favorite books in the series, this one is quite close. Rowling explores the stages of puberty that are swiftly approaching our three main characters and how it's effecting their thought processes and their actions. The Rise of Voldemort is absolutely astounding and Snape's character deepens with just a single paragraph speech. It makes a lot of questions spring up, plus there's a lot of foreshadowing for the following books. What makes me even more proud of Rowling and her writing is that even though the movies were SO popular by the time this book was published it did not sway her from her writing style and not changing the story to fit a movie screen.

Thursday I got burnt because I'm just too damn pale for a beach. I was a bit purple there for a day or so. Needless to say, Friday was spent in the shade of the porch, reading.

Friday night my Aunt and Uncle left me alone with the house so that they could return home and I could take care of everything before leaving on Saturday. The morning came, I packed up my goods, returned the keys, got gas and a donut and was heading for Lancaster PA by 10:20. I arrived in exactly three hours to the hotel where I would be staying and where the reception was going to take place.

The room was very nice and I was reveling in the fact that I got a King size bed all to myself with four fluffy pillows. I showered, got ready and went down to the room where the place would take place. I was extremely nervous, considering the only person I knew was the groom. However, he had the insight to sit me with his sister, her husband, her two kids and a couple of whom the woman was a photographer and was doing the work for the reception. His sister and her husband were extremely nice and she even bought me my first drink.

The groomsmen had light sabers and the bridal party came out to the Imperial March. It was a very relaxed reception and I was able to dance to Iron Maiden and Metallica. Needless to say, I was a happy camper, especially after a few drinks. I was even invited out by the sister to go get 'shit faced' at a bar but I thought against it considering I'd have a three and a half hour drive ahead of me the next day.

My nights rest was very refreshing, though I was ready to throw the alarm clock across the room waking me up so I could be out by the check out time. I got some special treatment from the bride and groom by meeting up with them and getting to eat breakfast with them. They paid for my meal as a thank you for coming so very far. Shelly, the now wife of my buddy Matt, was absolutely precious and very nice. So it was nice to be around them without having to scream over music and enjoying their company.

The ride home was less than enjoyable. I left at 12, got home by 4. My knees and legs were in shitty shape from dancing to begin with, after a four hour drive they felt similar to the consistency of very watery rice pudding. I had the distinct pleasure of also getting caught at a light and smelling the very poignant, glamorous smell of wet, rained on manure. I also got to see an Amish fella with his horse and buggy trotting along in the rain. I felt bad but I have a great respect for their way of life and their thought process of necessities. Don't worry, I'm not about to convert. Driving through rain and nasty clouds didn't allow me an opportunity for photography so I just gave up and did my best to get home.

I'm happy that my Honda Civic is a gas efficient car and that Jersey and PA seem to realize that gas prices at around 3.57 or higher is good. As soon as I hit NY again, the price for gas was at 4 or above. Needless to say, I got gas in Jersey and in PA...though having somebody pump my gas in Jersey always bothers me.

And now I'm here. My legs are in quite a bit of pain but that's about it. I'm glad I was able to go and relax and my ears and my sore throat seem to have managed to find a tolerant medium to heal in. So, yes! That's my update! New features, go look!

Book Review: "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" by Mark Twain: I had read this when I was in middle school and I hated it because of the way that the sixth century people talked in the book and I was far too young to hear the cynic in Twain's voice or had any care about it. Now, as a slightly young cynic myself, I couldn't be happier with the tone and language of every sentence in this book. He's kind of hard to swallow at times and in his later works he is a very depressing writer but this book is a happy medium and that will allow a few laughs to come out.

And I STILL have a sore throat. How is this possible? It's been two weeks!!!! *flail*

Regardless, anybody that watches me actively knows that I submit at least one deviation per day and I'm around to comment on about everything that comes into my devWATCH box. So, anyone that cares about my existence needs to be informed that I will be gone for several days and I will not have internet access to check up on everybody or to submit stuffies.

Curious as to where I'm going? Despite illness I'll be going to the Jersey shore on Wednesday until Saturday. Then driving into Lancaster, PA for a wedding Saturday night. Then Sunday I might be hanging out with the bride and groom for a few hours and then returning home. I have a feeling my knee is going to be very upset with me considering all the driving. The trip down to the shore is about two and a half hours. From the shore to Lancaster is about three and then going home is about three and a half hours.

I just hope I don't get any sicker than I am already 'cause those drives will NOT be fun. It's bad enough I can't sing to my musica on the trip. Sore throats suck.

I hate life.

Book Review: "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" by J.K. Rowling. Okay, so this is DEFINITELY one of my favorite books of the Harry Potter series. The characters are developing more distinguished personalities as teens and are starting their hormonal rampage to adulthood. It's only slight now, but it's noticeable. Plus, the ending is just precious. It gets me every time. Not crying, just smiling and it's just this kind of, feel good all over reaction. I was personally not pleased with how the movie portrayed Lupin's werewolf form. Pretty lame looking, to me. However, this is not a movie review, it is a book review. It's a decent size and it isn't as massive as some of the others. Plus, I kind of like (SPOILER) how Harry doesn't really need to BATTLE anything except his conscience. Plus, Voldemort isn't really in it, which is a decent change from the first three books.

There's a lot of recent news to go over with ya, so if you want to read, read, if not, check out the new features. So!!! Firstly, I won the bidding war regarding the selling of a Canadian Timber Wolf pelt from the wonderful *Zhon. I have it in my possession and I could not be happier with it. It is quite lovely! If you want to learn about how I came into getting it and why I would buy it, go to my last journal entry before this one. I plan on taking pictures of it eventually. For now, I'm content to continually pet it and chase my father's dog with it.

My weekend was chock full of fun! Saturday morning I was able to see The Dark Knight. The more I think about that movie the more I wish to see it again to review my thoughts on it. I fear that the only reason that I particularly enjoyed it was because of Heath Ledger's outstanding performance as the Joker. Sure, the movie itself was phenomenal, but it was truly dragged on by Ledger's refined acting. The Joker is my all-time favorite Batman villain and he captured him BRILLIANTLY! For that reason I'm also a bit more ticked off at him now because they can't ever bring The Joker back into this particular series without making something die in us fans. Plus, I was hoping they would be willing to put in Harley Quinn. Without the Joker, I don't think she would be worth it as an individual villain. Blah. I actually can say I kind of like Iron Man better than The Dark Knight, Mark would argue The Incredible Hulk on his side. I don't like to just love a movie based on one person's acting skills, even if they were stunning. (For all of you who are sniggering at this paragraph, just know I grinned from ear to ear when The Joker first made his appearance with a certain pencil.)

That afternoon we (my boyfriend, Mark, and I) went to our friends block party. Got hammmaaaaahhhhhhed. Loads and loads of fun. For all the curious parties out there: I drank Jack Daniels. I also continually hummed "Jack and Diane" the entire night.

Sunday was recovery day but it didn't stop Mark and myself from going to see Wall*E which was perhaps the cutest Pixar movie ever. Surprisingly, it has a very, very dark message behind the cuteness and I couldn't help but be even more attached to it because of that message. Definitely one of my favorite Pixar movies now.

Still need to see Hancock.

My old English teacher from High School is having a party this weekend to celebrate the fact he got married in something like February. I'm invited. Annnnnd of course I'm going. I know it may sound odd to everybody out there that an old teacher of mine would invite me to something like that, but we're good friends and we have hung out before once I graduated from H.S. and it was deemed socially acceptable all of a sudden.

Book Review: "The Story of B" by Daniel Quinn - Please, please, please go buy this book. Just...do it. It's near changed my life and its message needs to be spread to the masses. I love Quinn as a writer and it would help if you also picked up his books "Ishmael" and "My Ishmael" since they are great introductions to this book. However, this book is a lot more realistic, but I must warn you, a little dark in the religious realm of things. No, this books is not based off of religion, it is based off of how we, as a civilization (not just the U.S.) got to this point. Got to the point of near killing ourselves and the planet and all other species on this earth. The message is clear and simple, but I would be more than exalted to know that one of you..two of you..three..four...how many are interested when you read this that you go to your local bookstore (or Amazon) and just pick up the book and start reading. "The world will not be saved by old minds with new programs. If the world is saved, it will be saved by new minds--with no programs."

I had to get out of the house and just see a different face that wouldn't be judging me or upset with me or dying on me. She, her hubby-to-be and our mutual friend Danny had a good time just hanging out and talking. We, somehow, always manage to laugh and laugh and laugh. We also made semi-solid plans for seeing Nightwish in PA and about spending the weekend at Dena's parents' New Jersey home. I can't wait, even though it'll be coupled with the first week of the new semester at good ol' college.

I actually wanted to ask Dena, so I'll do it here before I forget: Do you want to go up to Faire at least ONE weekend this year? Not dressed up or anything. Just to go? I kind of miss it.

Annnnyways. On my way back home I had to stop at the top of their street because an entire family of raccoons attempted to venture forth from a parked car out into the street. Once they saw my headlights they kind of did that raccoon hover, wondering whether to go forward or not for half a second and then they hurried off behind a building. I regret the fact that I couldn't get my camera out fast enough. *shrugs* All well.

Some good news: My sunflowers and my carrots that I planted are coming along nicely, despite the fact that they nearly drowned in one of the freakish storms we've been having.

Some bad news: I'm going to have to work extra hours next week because I plan on buying a wolf pelt from *Zhon. (I blame ~Coontail for telling me. He'll be the scapegoat for why I can't buy my books this upcoming semester). Half of me is slapping myself upside the head saying, 'What the hell are you thinking, you need the money for school and books!!! You're an English EDU major for crying out loud!' The other half is just silently jumping for joy if I can manage to get it. The fact of the matter is that I normally don't buy fur. I think it's cruel if it's a shoot for profit kind of deal. However, *Zhon has told the whole story behind this particular pelt and I'm much more content to own it. I may never get this opportunity again. So, in that regard, it's worth it.

On a side note: Raisinets are incredibly awesome and I fear I am addicted. That and bananas....very odd.

Book Review: "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" by J.K. Rowling. So, basically, it's a spectacular continuation of the first book. Rowling is absolutely uncanny with her way of mixing old ideas with the new. Shelob appears as a new giant spider called Aragog but there are spells nobody has heard of and plants called Mandrakes. The entity of a person living within an old journal. Really very clever. Great for all ages! Clever humor and wit and a wonderful story. Worth every syllable.

Laura is also thinking of getting herself a dog, and bending to my convincing, it may very well be a shelter dog. She wants me to go along with her because I'm fairly good at spotting future behavioral problems and telling Laura how much it will take to get a dog to stop them for happening. For those of you who don't know: I'm a decent dog trainer and behavioral trainer. Finally, my sister is giving me some credit for something and putting it to some use.

Yesterday I went to my Aunts house to celebrate my grandfathers eighty-fifth birthday. He has Alzheimer's and we're celebrating his this milestone because 1) He may not live to see 90 and if he does 2) He may not have much of a mind left to enjoy a celebration at that point. It was nice, good to see the family. My cousin was pleasantly surprised that I have an Xbox 360. Apparently he never knew I was a gamer.

The first day off from work was nice. I had planted some sunflowers and carrots in troughs in my backyard late last week. The first signs of life appear in the form of an inch tall sunflower peeking its first tiny leaves up and out of the soil today. I've never grown something from a seed before, so it makes me feel proud to see that I can create beauty through life. It's helping me feel better what with all the untimely death occurring lately.

Can't wait to see my friend tomorrow: , I need to see a cheerful face. She and her hubby-to-be are good friends of mine and they will definitely help with my tenseness lately.

Book Review: "One More For The Road" by Ray Bradbury. Awesome, awesome collection of short stories. They are spell binding and touching. I can't emphasize reading this book if you are a first time reader of Bradbury and want a taste of him or if you're a seasoned veteran of his work. Each story weaves a completely different and wonderful concept that is beyond my realm of imagining. How he comes up with these things is just unbelievable. I, personally, believe that if you can weave a short story and make it fascinating, you're talented. A novel can be extended to hold a readers captivation, a short story must present the material as soon as possible and hope it works. These are marvelous examples of the working kind. If you like metaphors, read this collection.

An update in the life of moi...well, my Aunts (wife to the ex cop I just mentioned) father has developed throat cancer at 83 years of age. I'm not saying he's my grandfather because that entire family is just an extension of my real family. My dad and my Uncle grew up as kids together so they might as well be family. However, past my Aunt/Uncle/Cousin, I really don't refer to the rest of them with proper family names. So yes, he's developed cancer in his throat and they are not going to operate on him because of his age and the other existing problems with him. Instead they will perform chemotherapy for as long as they can. It was tough seeing him yesterday, knowing that he, for the rest of his life, is now going to be sick from the chemo.

My Great Uncle (my mother's uncle) passed away recently. At the age of 94. I wasn't very upset because of it. He was so very old and I hadn't seen him since I was 12. It's unfortunate that we won't receive his Christmas card every year but I really can't be selfish in this regard. He was 94. He lived a very good life.

On top of that, on Monday one of my little dwarf hamsters passed on into hammie heaven. Their lifespans are so very, very short and it's really unfortunate when they pass on. They're just so friggin' cute and they bring so much joy with their cute little faces and whiskers and hands and fur. He will be sorely missed.


I'm not feeling as melancholy lately. I think it has to do with the bit of death that is hanging over my family (animal and human alike) lately. It seems pointless to be upset when there's so much fatality and shortness to life. I might take a week off from work (I can do that since my mother is the boss ^^). I need to just relax and think and maybe see some friends.

Book Review: "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" by J.K. Rowling. This was the second time I had read this book and I'm glad I decided to pick it up again. There are names and places mentioned that only comes up in later books when it's worth remembering because the place or person is a big part of the storyline. It always makes me wonder when I re-read books in a series if the authors ever really know where they will go with something or if they just scour their older works for names and places to build off of. It's a fun little question to ponder. Regardless, if you haven't read these books you should. They are marvelous. They can be read to younger and older generations. This first book is absolutely phenomenal to start off the series and I recommend it to anyone who has a flair for fiction.

Book Review: I totally forgot to do this yesterday so I'll just update it if anyone is interested. Daniel Quinn's "My Ishmael" is a sequel to his two other books ("Ishmael" and "The Story of B"). You can really read them in any order because the story embedded in the books are not all that important. What is are the theories and amazing thoughts that Quinn clearly displays. What I love about "My Ishmael" is that a kid of thirteen or a grown adult can read this book and understand the ideas going on in its pages. I'd recommend this to anyone...absolutely anyone who wonders where the world is going, why it's going the way it is and what you can do about it should pick up this book.

Book(s) Read Recently: "From the Dust Returned" by Ray Bradbury. Okay, I'll be honest, this wasn't my favorite by him. The language and metaphors and everything was great, really...but the story lacked substance and it lacked a steady flow. I've read it once but it probably won't find its way back into my hands any time soon. I'd recommend it if you had nothing else to do with your time, and you had read some of the better Bradbury books. This is NOT a good read if you've never read Bradbury before, it may make you not want to read him ever again.

Father's Day was nice, I got my dad a few shirts from Sears but they didn't come in the mail in time. I got them today so I'll give them to him on Wednesday when I take the dog to the park. If my legs feel up to it and if the weather holds out, I think I may take a drive to the Zoo...which will be boring without someone by my side, but I may get a lot of good pictures. Plus it'll be a good opportunity to throw myself into a crash course on how to function with my new camera. Wish me luck!!

Also, I have decided to put a few photos up (and more to come) available as prints. I know that my work is nowhere near the best and nowhere near great or even good...or okay. But I'm looking for ways to pay for college and every little bit helps. Recently Read Book(s): "Ishmael" by Daniel Quinn. I read this when I was younger and I didn't understand a lot of it so I decided to reread it. I'm glad I did. The ideas in this books is absolutely phenomenal and it definitely relates to today's world and the issues that are occurring in it. Once you get passed the fact that there's a gorilla 'talking' to you, the ideas really sink in. Even though it's an easy read, it begs to be read slowly so that the words can be thought about, the questions can be answered. I'd say it's a great book for anybody that has a concern for our world, not just the natural environment but what is happening to us as human beings.

Regardless, new features, new stuffies to look at! I hope that everyone is enjoying their summers and that this journal finds you well.

Book Review: Just finished Ray Bradbury's "Something Wicked This Way Comes". I had only read "Fahrenheit 451" by him before, so this was my second experience with Bradbury. I love "Fahrenheit 451" for its story, its miraculous, foreshadowing concepts and how it can relate to today. However, "Something Wicked This Way Comes" is completely different in a most marvelous way. It's a book I could probably pick up twenty times, read every spot of ink with meticulous detail each time and still find something different. Instead of a story that has metaphors and intense language, this novel has metaphors and intense language that has a story. Poetic, to say the very, very least. I can finally watch the move now!!

An update in my life: Almost called the cops on my neighbors the other day. These two men were fighting in their driveway, really going at it with a woman between them and a two year old crying on the sidelines. Now, I'm all for natural selection. However, I wouldn't want to live with the fact that if the kid died, I'd kind of be an accessory to an accidental murder. Ohh, I'm just kidding. Anyways, this is a pretty quiet neighborhood, and these neighbors are new to the area and already I don't have a very good opinion of them. All well! No new features, that will come next week!

Speaking of weddings, my sister is getting married. In two years, but she is. Whatever. I'm not gonna get into it. It's exciting but not. Fin.

On Saturday I went to my cousin's graduation party and drank my classic Jack Daniels and Dr Pepper. It's loads of fun. Lots of good food and good company. However, during both experiences I was regretting not having my camera on hand.

HOWEVER!!! Today my mother decided to give me my birthday present way, way early in the form of a new camera. It is a Canon PowerShot SD890 IS. If you wanna know more about it just click here: Camera. It should take you to the specs and everything on the little bastard. It's so damn light, I feel like I"m gonna massacre it as soon as I bring it outside. Now all I have to do is buy a better memory card for it, considering they give you a 32MB card that can take all of what...? 11 pictures..? Yeah. I hope I can find my confidence in this camera and experiment with it as much as possible. That's all for now.

I'm more pissed off because I was hoping my little digi would last me another couple years so that when I graduated from college maybe I could receive a nice graduation present of a REAL camera with a zoom lens that is so powerful that I can take a picture of *KirlianCamera's nose hairs from here. AND HE'S IN GREECE!!!!! Okay, I'm being silly, but I have to be or else I'll go nuts. All the rhododendron are in bloom along with the hyacinth's and I can't so much as go out and look at them without being very upset that I can't get a shot of 'em. Regardless, like I was saying, I was hoping that my little piece of crap, four year old, (worth fifty dollars now on eBay) camera would last me a few more years until I got a real camera that would be my baby and my treasure and my love. But no.

I guess it kind of happened at a good time, considering the fact that the camera was ancient in technological terms and my mother mentioned maybe getting a new one for me (a regular pocket digi, perhaps another PowerShot) as an early birthday gift. Now my plans for asking for a PS3 for my b-day is all fuzzed over because my gift is now going to be in the form of a camera. Maybe if I work extra hours I can manage to save up a few hundred dollars and pay my mother back. ...Probably not. Considering I'll need that money for an extra battery, probably a better memory card since they give you ones that can save...ohh...three shots, a new printer and paper and ink and ohh my goodness it'll be a lot of money.

To be perfectly honest, I don't know how to feel about the situation. Clearly. At least I can feature more people! YAY!!!! I am also stealing =mrcool256s idea for a feature. Though at a much smaller scale. I'll try and feature one work from one of my watchers every time I feature or write a new journal. ^^'

Life has been pretty busy, I think this is the most busy summer that I'll ever have. And it's only getting worse. I want to be around a lot more than I am but being so busy has also made me rather tired. It's a good kind of tired, though. I'm exhausted from having fun for the most part. It helps. I am also working to get some moolah in my pockets but that's minor. Next week looks promising for relaxation before Friday. Hurrah.

Okay, well, I hope everyone is well and is not stuck in this silly weather pattern that has been the same for, oooohhhh, a week now. *glares at the sky, shakes fist at it*

I got my grades at around 1:00 and then at 4:00 I was on the road with two of my friends to a Nightwish concert. I cannot express to you the awesomeness involved in this concert. I had seen them once before and they definitely tied themselves in how incredible they were. The first time I saw them they had a different singer, but they also performed The Phantom of the Opera and they also had a special guest. They brought out Chris Broderick from Megadeth and played a song by them and I almost had a heart attack. This show, they didn't have any special guests but their energy on stage was really off the charts and that really makes the show worth it. Their energy coupled with the new singer was really amazing. It was so friggin' hot in the venue we were at, I think I lost five pounds from just sweating. When my friends finally turned to me they referred to me as a smelly dripping mess. ^^' Right now, my voice is hoarse from singing, my body is killing me, especially my neck, shoulders and legs, but I...am...happy. It was a wonderful night. I got home at 2AM and passed out with a smile on my face.

What is possibly even better is that the two wonderful individuals I went with are talking about driving down to PA to see Nightwish again in August and I, of course, am more than welcome to tag along. You bet I am. My first day free of ties to school has been an incredible one.

On a side note, some individuals had problems with my last journal entry when I dedicated a small paragraph to my most active watchers. That's what they are. In fact, the list is even going to change slightly today. I do not base the list off of how much I talk to someone, I base it off of the support I get on this site (which means faves and comments). Sorry for being so blunt but, accept it and move on. Thank you. ^^

In other news, classes end April 25th and the following week is finals week. I may explode from the amount of work I have to get done between now and then, but I'm sure I'll bite through it and deal with it. Nothing else has really occurred recently worth noting. Basically because I live the most boring life ever during school. More than anything, I can't wait to start reading things I actually want to read once summer comes my way.
