I can't even write about it now. Okay, that's just silly...let me attempt to sum up some of today's remarkable occurences.
It started out like any other day, robotically going through the drill at safeway/starbucks. One thing kept me excited about getting home well, besides that I have four delightful felines waiting at the door for me on a daily basis.
Tori Amos' new disc was scheduled to arrive today. I come home to find no parcel on the porch, so natcherly I was bumming.
I am greeted by the furry foursome and cheer up immensely. Five minutes later, the doorbell rings and I find TORI waiting for me.
Wait, it gets better. Half an hour later, I decide I'm not really ready to focus fully on the new Tori sonics, so I begin watching a Marlon Brando documentary on TCM.
The phone rings.
It's my friend, Nicole-and she says that she'd like to bring MY new moped over. WHAAAT? She just wants to make certain that it meets with my approval.
I should explain that the act of driving terrifies me and that I get around mostly by pounding the pavement and by public transportation.
BUT, I like biking a great deal. It's just that all of those SUVs kinda harsh my buzz when it comes to traveling outside of a three mile radius.
Her father's neighbor had this moped that's been gathering dust in the garage for about eight years and made an offer to sell it for 150 bucks.
Nicole, bless her bones, immediately thought of me and purchased it. She delivered it to me this evening. It was love at first sight.
What a revelation! As soon as I pulled it from her truck and wrapped my legs around "Lucy" I knew that this was a match forged in something like Heaven.
Now, I just need to find out how to operate this lovely machine. It's a Moped Bravo Piaggio, I think. At least, those are the labels to be found on various portions of her anatomy.
So, what kind of license is required to take to the streets? I don't know yet. The speedometer only goes up to 40 MPH, so I'm guessing that Lucy's not suited for the highway-and that's just fine with me.
The best news of all is that my estranged partner in puppeteering, John, rang me up outta the blue and said that he wants to be pals again. I'm, as they say in Great Britain, utterly gobsmacked. I've tried countless times to rekindle our partnership ove r the past several months. He's a moody ass and I had just about given up hope in ever performing with him again.
We gabbed for at least a coupla hours and he's probably coming over on Saturday. I can hardly wait to see him.
There's even more to say about today, but I think that some of you are probably already bored to tears. Thanks for listening, though.
Yours truly, R.12

     <img src="http://e.deviantart.com/emoticons/d/devilish.gif" width="15" height="16" alt=":devilis...

It makes me want to get naked, slather myself in mud, twigs and leaves... and dance wildly. Anybody have a similar reaction?
I'm really excited about getting Tori Amos' new effort, "American Doll Posse". It should arrive on Tuesday or Wednesday in my trusty mailbox.
I'm going to Boulder with some friends today which should be fun, haven't been there in a long while. Maybe I'll get to go to my favorite comic book store, "Time Warp".
I hope that all is mostly groovy for all y'all.

My concert-going agenda this year includes seeing Bjork at Red Rocks Amphitheater. I think that the word "amphitheater" means that you can choose to participate while partially submerged in water.
I'm excited about Bjork, but possibly even more thrilled about the fact that I'll be seeing CYNDI LAUPER for the first time in my life-AND she's appearing with Erasure*. Does it get any better? I don't wanna know.
Anywaysies, I haven't been around for a while-and it's great to see alla y'all and all.

*Erasure's new single is out now. It's called "I Could Fall in Love with You". Give it a go.
I also heard that their new release "Light at the End of the World" will feature a duet with Cyndi Lauper.

BUT-and there's a BUT...it must be vegetarian fare, but I guarantee a brilliant culinary experience.
So, intrepid ones, what I am presenting to you is a challenge to your carnivorous ways.
Protein sources will be well-presented, but none of our animal brethren will be displayed at my table.
I know what you're thinking. Whassup widdat? Just pull on up and I'll clue you in, Cosmic Bruhs and Sistahs...
Okay, okay, I'm fueled by vodka and the rough effects of another day at Starbucks, but...and there's another BUT...think about the MEAT you eat each day. What if you had to go out and KILL in order to satisfy your flesh-cravings? YIPES! JUST Imagine yourself drenched in the blood of freshly-killed "Bessie"...
Pretty disgusting notion? You betcher luscious patootie.
Would you really enjoy bashing the skull of a cow so that you could enjoy a Mc Burger or a fajita? Wouldja, couldja?
If so, well, I can not begin to express my complete disappointment in you. People are animals too...so why not do us all a monumental favor and resort to eating your neighbors?
Okay, I'm babbling...label me a Babbler, if you must, but consider this...WHAT IF!?
What if you were not the Highest of Muckity Mucks on the food chain?
This has been a very hot Summer-too hot to enjoy my my new Schwinn, in fact, so I am looking forward to Autumn. I had a fantastic weekend, I saw The Flaming Lips at the most gorgeous venue, RED ROCKS and then went to the Larkspur Renaissance Festival with Donna on Sunday. We rode an alcoholic Camel and had a great time. I hope that you've had half as much fun this season. I also expect a few toasts to my my newly accquired family-member...a rescued stray kitten that I call "Tiki". She is a Siamese-mix lump of wondrousness. I love you guys,-R.12

Hello, Friends-I apologize for being away for so long and getting so far behind on comments. Work has sucked away at my spirit and I usually go to bed about NINE PEE EM these days. I'll be glad when all this "holiday joy" crap is finally over. By "joy" I mean all of these stressed-out, maxed-out people taking out their frustrations on this lowly Starbucks drone...and everybody else cursed to slog away in food service and other retail hellholes. Okay, so I am being much less of a "Scrooge" this year...I've only said "Bahhh, Humbug!" three times so far ...today. We're having a small cocktail party this evening-and for me THAT is what the holiday season is all about-DRINKING!
Ahhhh, nothing like killing the stress and strain of being a non-believer and let's face it, a curmudgeon-with plenty of coffee and Bailey's and Kahlua. This is my holiday poison of choice. A perfect balance of caffeine and alcohol.
Now that I have proven my value as a role model, let's talk about something, you know, topical...like traditions.
Seriously, I'm genuinely interested.
Are there any specific behaviours that are unique to you and/or your family around the holidays? Does Aunt Minnie still leap up into the middle of the Christmas table, festooned with jingle bells and garland- and begin clogging whilst belting out "Away In A Manger"...like she usedta do?
Any particularly cherishable memories to share? Holiday peeves that get your goat? Lay it on me for I am ALL EARS!
I remember the time my stepfather ruined everything by getting plastered and destroying everything associated with Xmas...the TREE, the PRESENTS...He was an EVIL drunk, the kind that gets belligerent, angry and violent!
My grandparents rescued us from the holiday horror and turned things around-so I consider that to be my favorite Christmas experience. Besides, my stepdad drank himself into oblivion years ago.
Well, it's a bit early to be hittin' the sauce, but I'll propose a toast to y'all later. Love, Robokitty

"They all want FRUITcake."

the new legislature takes office.
THE TRAGEDY OF TODAY'S GAYS An address to the gay community By Larry
Kramer

(A speech made at Cooper Union, New York on Sunday, November 7, 2004,
presented by HIV Forum in conjunction with NYU's Office of LGBT Student
Services, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids, Callen-Lorde, and the Gill
Foundation.)

I think this has been the most difficult speech I have ever had to write
and to deliver. It is a long speech. I pray you will bear with me until
its end.

It is an attempt to give you some idea of who and what we are up
against. It is also an attempt to discuss our ability to deal with
these.

I recently learned about two dear friends, both exceptionally smart and
talented and each in his own way a leader of our community. One, in his
middle age, has sero-converted. The other, in his middle-age, has become
hooked on crystal meth. Both of them are here with us tonight.

I love being gay. I love gay people. I think we're better than other
people. I really do. I think we're smarter and more talented and more
aware and I do, I do, I totally do. And I think we're more tuned in to
what's happening, tuned into the moment, tuned into our emotions, and
other people's emotions, and we're better friends. I really do think all
these things.

To us it defies rational analysis that this incompetent dishonest man
and his party should be re-elected. Or does it?

I hope we all realize that, as of November 2nd, gay rights are
officially dead. And that from here on we are going to be led even
closer to the guillotine. This past week almost 60 million of our
so-called "fellow" Americans voted against us. Indeed 23% of
self-identified gay people voted against us, too. That one I can't
figure.

The absoluteness of what has happened is terrifying. On the gay marriage
initiatives alone 2.6 million against us in Michigan. 3.2 million in
Ohio. 1.1 million in Oklahoma, 2.2 million in Georgia. 1.2 million in
Kentucky. George Bush won his Presidency of our country by selling our
futures. Almost 60 million people whom we live and work with every day
think we are immoral. "Moral values" was top of many lists of why people
supported George Bush. Not Iraq. Not the economy. Not terrorism. "Moral
values." In case you need a translation that means us. It is hard to
stand up to so much hate. Which of course is just the way they want it.
Please know that a huge portion of the population of the United States
hates us. I don't mean dislike. I mean hate. You may not choose to call
it hate, but I do. Not only because they refuse us certain marital
rights but because they have also elected a congress that is overflowing
with men and women who refuse us just about every other right to exist
as well. "Moral values" is really a misnomer; it means just the reverse.
It means they think we are immoral. And that we're dangerous and
contaminated. How do you like being called immoral by some 60 million
people? This is not just anti-gay. This is what Doug Ireland calls "homo
hate" on the grandest scale. How do we stand up to 60 million people who
have found a voice and a President who declares he has a mandate?

The new Supreme Court, due any moment now, will erase us from the slate
of everything possible in no time at all. Gay marriage? Forget it. Gay
anything, forget it. Civil rights for gays? Equal protection for gays.
...

I was delighted to see that many others agreed with my opinion on this "Wild West" attitude that so many of my fellow citizens cling to.
I expressed openly that I think the only reason for owning a gun is that you wish to SHOOT something or someone. Which usually results in injury or death, right?
Anyway, it was a criminal case in which the young man was accused of attempted murder...and I didn't feel that I qualified to pass judgement in such a situation. I did learn a few things about the way things work in our judicial system-and was not entirely pleased, I have to admit. The way the attorney kept bringing up the AGE of the defendant...and kept uh, massaging him, were both elements that chilled me.
I know that it's my "civic duty" and all that (they really pounded that notion into my noggin!) but this just wasn't something i could keep quiet about...Let me know whatcha think.

"They all want cake."
Two things became apparent immediately, this wee one is skin and bones- and he has dried blood on his nose. Off to the vet! *I'll skip all this bit if you don't mind*
Okay-so, he basically needs to EAT and DRINK and of course, get lots of attention. No problem on any of these accounts. He's about 9-10 weeks old and very affectionate and energetic. Soon, he'll visit the vet again to become a member of the Castrati and get some vaccinations. But wait until you get a load of some of Donald O'Connor's gravity-defying footwork! Debbie Reynolds(you know, Princess Leia's Mom), at the ripe old age of nineteen has no trouble at all keeping up with all the veteran hoofers-in fact, she's AMAZING! I realize that the average filmgoer these days suffers from ADD and that's why modern movies are so um...shall we say, frenetic. This film is pure fun, no heavy message...just loads of TALENT .Get doped up on plenty of sedatives and give this classic a whirl. Because I SAID SO, that's why! "GOTTA DANCE!"
