I've finally got my Mac running again, so I'm going to install Leopard on it. 512MB RAM and a 733G4? Well, it's worth a shot I think.

I think OS9 caught wind of my plan and hanged itself.
I leave it playing music while I make a cup of tea, and I return to find a Finder error. I restart as advised and get Open Firmware. I give it a 'mac-boot' and I get the dreaded '?'. Many PRAM zaps and restarts later it boots, slowly, and gives me a memory error. Eventually I get the desktop and have a prod in Apple System Profiler to find that either someone nicked my ram while I was away, or one of my DIMMs has lost half its capacity. Also, Marathon now crashes during play. Marathon 2 is fine though, so that's alright then...

No OSX till I can get that RAM back up to atleast 512MB...

Ive got a few waiting, but the PC is still in need of a rebuild and fix, and I havent had the time due to college and work, so... yeh. Ill get it sorted eventually.

Until then Im having a generally decent time with some very decent people doing generally decent things. Also, Im planning a trip to Japan either next year or the year after, so Im gonna have to brush up on my Japanese again. >_< And my Russian isnt what it was... Ahwell.

Ill get some art up once the PC is sorted, and Im also looking at a replacement for this piece of junk. The elastic and sellotape and gaffer tape will only keep it alive for so long. Im probably going to go with an Acer Aspire One and razz Fedora, Ubuntu or Gentoo on the thing.

Anyhoo, I purchased my first Apple Mac today! Woo! For the princely sum of five pounds sterling! Its a Blue And White Power Mac G3 and its pretty funky. Im cleaning it at the moment.

Does anyone know how to open the damn thing? I cant get it open.

Work on my half synth half laptop started a couple of days ago. It was going well untill Ive broken it for an unknown reason. Hmm.
Ill look into it.

The half digital half 35mm cam is in the design stage at the mo.

Thanks for your time. And tips for the Mac would be a appreciated. I need to borrow a Monitor and keyboard of someone to test it. I shall post my results here too.

Im rather stressed at the moment, so dont expect many updates.

This is mainly due to work, college, exams etc..


I missed Nightwish yesterday, after foolishly selling the ticket Id had since last september, as I wasnt too keen on Anette.

However, Ive just watched a video on youtube of the gig, and listened to the words of my mates and to be honest, Im going to regret it forever.

On the plus side, the guy in the friendly neighbourhood comic store said if he liked mine and CP's comic, hed put it on his shelves, as long as the store took 35%.

Also, I have a few projects lined up for summer, mainly, starting a book, recording another album, building a synthesiser, and putting digital parts in a 35mm SLR.

My Rangefinder works a bit now. The shutter still jams occasionally but itsfine apart from that.

Ive jsut bought a roll of Ilford B&W film too so Ill see what thats like when I use up this Kodak stuff Ive had lying around.

Ive uploaded a picture inspired by one of Greenie's Phobots too, so please have a look.

Theres an open source equivalent to Lightroom being developed called Bluemarine. Its looking promising, so check it out!

Well, today was fairly uneventful, as is usual for a friday.

I did however discover that whenever Linux was mentioned, the IT technician would burst into our vicinity. To put this to the test i walked up to CP and whispered 'Debian...' and as I expected the blonde affro that is the IT techy burst forth from what we all thought was a solid wall to comment 'Excellent choice' and then promtly vanished down the corridor at superhuman speed.

~

Seeing a raven wandering across Big Side conjured up memories in me and CP of RAF Station Cosford (now known as DCAE Cosford), when we were stationed there in early summer last year. One day, we were in the bar after a trip to the NAAFI, and decided to stick the TV on. Suprisingly the show that glowed into life on the little window of glass was Raven on CBBC which had us talking in scottish accents all day and discussing the nature of the show itself. In fact, we have decided that it is not a childrens gameshow at all but some kind of sick entertainment for a mystical scottish psycopath. Those cheap special effects are just used to cover up the horrific gore of Raven's shotgun staff as he blasts the kids into little pieces if they fail in doing pointless and dangerous tasks. If it were 'just a gameshow' the kids wouldnt take it so seriously would they? Come on, if you were confronted by an old guy in a brown cloak, youd punch him in the face, not try and collect 5 gold rings!

Also, never say Latin is a dead language to a Head of Classical Studies. I have seen the results, and I fear to imagine how long its gonna take to scrape the mess off the walls...

Also, I was confronted by one of the biology students waving a prosthetic limb grinning like a maniac pronouncing 'I found this on a dead man!'

Hmmm...

I may do a highlights of this half term next week when Im not working.

This brought me visions of a small child running around wrapped in paper on fire.

He soon realised his mistake heheh.

Other notable events of the day included a conversation about a lottery ticket that went as thus:

'Hey, can I borrow a quid?'
'Want me to set you on fire?'
'What about One fifty?'

And 'Excuse me while a poke the fat man.'

I also took a stout blow to the right temple by a football in philosophy, after which I turned to my mate and asked him to speak while I had my finger in me ear to see if I was deaf.
I couldnt hear anything and then he pointed out I had my finger in the wrong ear.

Oops.

I guess it's safe to say Im the only person to attempt a backflip while micing someone up. Ahwell.

I was in the middle of studying objects excavated from the House of the Vettii in Pompeii and suddenly theres this huge ringing noise and everyones falling over each other to get to the nearest exit.

People say a captain should go down with his ship, and in this light the principle chose to go down with his college. We gazed in admiration as we saw him saluting in one of the larger windows as the buildings sank into the ground.

Why they did this, Im not too sure, but I believe it can only be attributed to the ridiculous number of Mathematics textbooks nearby and the large gravitational well they create. Either that, or the college is built on a pyrophobic swamp.

After the London Camera Exchange confirmed my Prinz Pilot E no longer works and has a shattered shutter mechanism, Ive acquired an Olympus 35RD and a Miranda F2A flashgun.

Its amazingggg! I love rangefinders!

Unfortunatly it uses a mercury cell... So... I either need to find a replacement, or rig it to work fully mechanical. All the battery does is power the meter, and in my experience, everything works at f8.

The battery is still inside, and Im not sure if its a mercury or a replacement with a ring glued on. So... I need to get that recycled somewhere and look for a replacement.

My college wont let me take Computing, Music technology or Photography, so I guess Im stuck with Maths, Physics, Classical Civilisation and a coupla others, which would have been Computing, Music Tech and/or photography.

Or I could move. But I dont want to.

That camera is amazing. Im just testing at the mo, but Ill take some propper shots soon.
Not tried the 50-200mm lens yet either. Ive been using the 18-55mm now I have a filter.

I need some more cans of Canada Dry....

The laptop remains in a bazzed condition, and i havent had time to wash the disk. I may not bother, but I cant use the internet on it as DamnSmallLinux doesnt see its network card and kerel panics whenever I plug it into the router.


Any ideas?

I have some photos lying around that I havent uploaded, plus a few from a Yashica 35mm SLR that I borrowed, which need scanning, so Ill be putting them up over the next week or so.

A Samsung GX-1L Twin Lens kit, for about £200 new.

Very nice.

In fact its torturing me, that I will not open it until I get a UV filter for at least the SK 18-55 D-Xenon lens, as I really dont want to get any dust or finger prints on the lens's glass at all.

The lens hoods are a nice touch, and the camera was nicely packaged.

I love it! It will probably decimate my Powershot on picture quality, and on creative control, and hopefully, the quality and creativity of my shots will improve.

Ive also bazzed my laptop. Windows 95 will no longer boot, and Linux is having a spaz and kernel panics when it connects to the internet. I may just wash the disc, and start again with a fresh 98 or DSL install. Maybe Fedora Core 3 or Ubuntu Warty.

Any ideas?

almost broken wrist so im typing with one hand. certainly some tweaked tendons and stuff. maybe i should stop skating (aggressive inline, not skateboarding you fools) now that i cant move my left arm. it also means i wont be playing guitar for a long while, which i find rather depressing. god, this hurts like hell.
