I've been to Lulworth castle to watch the Joust, Bournemouth Oceanarium and Bournemouth Airshow. Also have plenty of photo of the animals to put up.

We've had numerous new additions to our household. I've addopted a baby bearded dragon who we've named Midas. Jon has addopted (my friends keep giving him spiders... I don't DO spiders) a mexican red-knee, a red leg and a velvet moutain beauty tarantula. He loves them, I'm not so keen tho I will admit that they are pretty to look at from a distance lol

We've also gained a few corn snakes, Penny (snow) and Lucy (Candycane) and have had our first clutch of eggs from Lucy already, so fingers crossed. Not sure if they will hatch as she laid them near enough in her water, but a few look okay.

We've also got another green anole called Hera and a horned lizard called Isis.

We have a new addition to our household, a female leopard gecko called Freja to keep Loki company. We will also be picking up two female adult cornsnakes tomorrow for our breeding project, one is a candy cane and the other a snow, can't wait to pair the candy cane with my candy cane male charlie! Fingers crossed for some very pretty babies :D

On a MUCH happier note tho, Jon and I are the proud parents of 10 baby checkered garter snakes! Jon had been convinced for a while that she was gravid but we were unsure as all our reptile friends thought otherwise. So it was a bit of a surprise to see lots of babies in the tank yesterday afternoon :) After dismantalling the tank stone by stone we recovered 10 babies, and she hasn't had any more since. They are so so small, absolute minatures of the adults. I'm sure there will be some photos on the way soon.

My aquarium work is going really well and I've been volunteering with the education department which is great. Hopefully it will lead to something paid in the future as the job situation isn't going so well at the moment.

The aquarium is also going to start running a course for its volunteers, focusing on zoo licencing, fisheries, husbandry and marine biology. I hope that I can undertake this as it would fill the gaps in my knowledge and give me more confidence when talking to the public about the animals we keep.

Pet update : Our Texan rat snake, Indra, is still missing. I'm going to try putting some food out again this week, I just hope he's still in the flat. We've also had some additions. 2 grey and 1 green tree frog (Fozzie, Frodo and Titch), 1 snow corn snake (Dashe) and an anerythristic corn snake (Thor). So thecollection is growing rapidly :)

I also got to hold a chilian rose tarantula yesterday which i am rather proud of. I've always been scared of spiders and it's something i'd really like to get over.

Hopefully should have some new photos to upload next week, i'll get editing!

I've been trying to make time to do some photography lately, and have been trying some more unusual ideas. I was inspired by a book called Animalia by Henry Horenstein. In this book he takes very abstract images of animals,all in black and white, to draw attention to their form. I've been trying my own version of this idea doing macro work while volunteering at the aquarium. I am hoping to get hold of my own slr soon so that I can do some true macro shots.

I'm also changing jobs, I've been offered a promotion to bar supervisor elsewhere which is daunting but really fab. I can finally work normal (ish) hours and save up some money.

Had an annoying DA week this week as some of my deviations were moved. I believe that they were in the right catagory but others disagree. The images were of dartmoor ponies and were moved from wild to domesticated. I don't understand this beause they are actualy feral animals, which by definition means returned to a wild state. They are not domesticated in any way, you can't approach them, they are not ridden or handled either. Once a year they are collected up to check on numbers, but this is for a conservation purpose. Just because an animal has domesticated ancestry, doesn't mean that it itself is domesticated. These ponies live in some of the harshest, wild conditions.

Okay, rant over! :)
On a happier note, I'm enjoying my photography again and have had a go making some panos for the first time. I also plan to have a go with *InsaneGelflings camera this week and take some macro shots of tilly in all her glory.

We missed the first part of the sunrise as we had to walk a little way to get the the birdhide and platform, but I am still really pleased with my images. It is the first photography I have done in a long time and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I finally got my dissertation finished although I don't think it was very good. As long as I pass tho I'll get my degree and be a happy girl. Thank you to everyone who helped me with the surveys, give yourselves a gold star :D

This week we are staying in Wareham, near Bournemouth. It is really lovely down here and I hope to take some landscape photos, tho I'm not sure how long my battery will last (The charger accidentally got put into storage...I know, I'm a clever girl lol).

I visited Monkey World on Sat and was so impressed with the enclosures, the primates obviously come first, but they also provide good viewing for the visitors. I got a few nice shots that day of the young orangutans as well as a very friendly baby robin. :)

We didn't manage to go to Chester Zoo as planned because my work has kept me too busy, but we did go down the road to Colwyn Bay Mountain Zoo which was a welcomed break. Yesterday Jon and I went to the RSPB reserve at Conway which was beautiful. It's so nice to be able to come home to Wales :D

I have updated my photographer of the year entries and would appreciate it if you could go along to the website and give me and Jon some support. You do have to sign up, but it only takes a couple of moments and the emails they send out are really interesting to read.

On a lighter note, next week I am hoping to go back to the Otter sanctuary, hopefully they will have some pups. I am also going to see my Mum in just over a week now, which means that Jon and I finally get to go to Chester Zoo. :D I'll still be working, but I'll get to have a good day out doing photography as a welcomed distraction. After handing my dissertation in we are visiting Jon's mum in Bornemouth, so we will be going to Monkey World and a raptor centre too. So lots to look forward to!

I decided to try and do some self portraiture/conceptual pieces to pass the time, and am kinda pleased with the results. I'm hoping to do some more over the next few weeks. Now that I have access to a tripod i'm finding everything so much easier to set up and things are more successful.

I would really appreciate comments, critique and advice to help me improve my work as this is my first attempt. :D

PS. Haven't heard back from the British Wildlife Centre so I mucst have been unsuccessful which is a shame. I am hoping to go back there again tho for a photography day as I loved the centre. Fingers crossed some more jobs come up :)

I've been really enjoying my new camera and am pleased with some of the images i'm getting, tho it's taking alot of getting used to. Tomorrow I have an Interview with a wildlife centre, fingers crossed! I'm so excited at just being able to go there, at worst I'll get to practice using my camera. Time for me to go to bed, but i'll leave you with some recent work that I think deserves a feature.

We're going to Bristol zoo, West midlands safari park, Twycross zoo and The British wildlife centre (I have an interview so fingers crossed!) in the next few weeks and i can't wait to play with my camera!

On a more positive note, I've had a productive evening organising my gallery, clearing out old deviations and playing with css in my journal. I am hoping to go to Paignton again next week, i need to visit my tutor who works there so it's a good excuse to take some photos. Hopefully i can get some better macro images of the reptiles this time.

I'm also waiting for my herpetology course pack to arrive. I'm not sure how i'm going to juggle my dissertation and a GNVQ course, but i'm sure i'll manage somehow! I can't wait to get started.

On saturday i went to Lea Valley Park in london and met Simon King!!!! He took a lecture on 'calls to the wild' telling us lots of techniques for capturing wildlife on film :D

To top off my amazing weekend, i went to London zoo on sunday which i have wanted to do for years. I made sure i went to the reptile house and aquarium first to do some macro images before my battery ran out again (i've ordered a second one now so hopefully i shouldnt have any problems next time). Really pleased with my aquarium shots and some of the reptiles too. Hope you all like them!
