I also foresee a change in my animation style from a more realistic style to something towards simple and cartoony.

But I guess that's a great thing, because i tend to over-animate and become too engrossed in the details. Hopefully this change will help me find the essence of character animation and make my future work more interesting.

UPDATE: Change of plans. It's gonna be 3 months now. Coming back to Singapore on the 23 of Nov. I'll try to post about stuff in Korea here as much as I can.

I've been busy with paperwork and packing, but feeling really excited! We met 2 students who went to Korea previously to get a feel of what it's like over there. Seemed like they had lots of fun and the stay was smooth sailing.

Trying to learn abit of the Korean Language. It's a pretty logical system but its still not as easy to learn as i hoped. Haha.

The concept we're working on is basically an animation under 4 minutes about a family living in a future holocaustic wasteland trying to relive Christmas they once knew.

This story is centred around the little boy who has never experienced Christmas before and was contented with only the emulated nature of his 'White' Christmas.

I'll try to post some stuff from this if I've time to spare.

I'm working in a duo; with someone I know well(and trust) and have worked with prior to this.

We're now required to come up with animation concepts(3d and/or 2d) and work on them for around 17 weeks. Then execute them after that.

For my team, we've come up to with a few ideas and sketches of them. But its been hard to come up with anything particularly original.

We're now considering using fantasy concepts I made in my teenage years. They've now become rag-tag and slightly faded drawings that I dug out of some corner deep in my closet.

I'm really interested to see how this will turn out.

Oh, I heard the matte-painting module was pretty hard to get anything but a fail for previous batches and have been warned to choose our year 3 electives wisely.

I don't know but I might be one of those crazy enough to go choose it, despite warnings, cause I just want to learn it.

I don't know. lol




Update!!!

Turns out that one of my other ideas was the better of the lot.

It's about Christmas in the distance future. I'll be using mood to create a twist in the story.

Z-Brush is basically a 3d application that allows the user to sculpt a 3d model freely as if it was 'like' clay(preferably using a stylus). 'Like' clay because it lets you do more than what u can do to real life clay and faster.. yea.. (There are other programs like this too, notably mudbox, another 3D sculpting application that has some interface differences.)

This tool kinda flips the process of modeling upside down in a good way; you can pay more attention to what the model looks like down to the finest detail like pores and not have to worry about vertices at all..

I was pretty skeptical about modeling this way especially if you want to do animation with it.. but the during the demo i saw how each of my concerns seem to be resolved..

For sure this is awesome! lol I'm gonna pick it up soon!
