I make no secret of the fact that Rob Liefeld is a terrible comic artist, because of his lackadaisical approach to anatomy and various other reasons. I don't want this to be about how good or bad people think Liefeld is. He doesn't deserve this guy being a coward and not even saying this stuff to his face. He shouldn't even bother with it.
A few years ago, I was in CHicago for the Comic-Con, and I saw Liefeld. I just kept walking. If I don't like his work, I just don't buy his product.
It appears that comic professionals have all attacked this guy in the comments about being ridiculous and making sure that the industry guys know he is an ass.

The internet gives people such a sense of anonymous confidence and being a fanboy/girl gives people a false sense of entitlement. The combination of the two sometimes creates a degenerate hybrid.

Please don't behave like this at cons, folks! Whether you like someone or not, someone else might like their work, and you don't have the right to ruin their enjoyment of it.

Stew

Keep on drawing and keep on dreaming
Stew

Thanks for stopping by, here's what's new in the snowglobe of my life:

I keep reading everyone's journal tributes to Michael Turner, and it felt like a punch to the gut when I heard the news. I read about it much earlier in the day today, and here I am almost a good chunk of the day later, and it still feels so surreal. I met Michael each time that I attended Wizard World Chicago, and he absolutely could not have been a nicer guy. He apologized for the long lines, was in his booth for a while so that his fans could have a good chance to get something signed, and seemed very genuine when thanking you for coming. One year, when he was signing with the Top Cow panel, my girlfriend really wanted a copy of [link] (which I have later purchased and I am now staring at above my computer), but they had run out. Michael kept apologizing for not having more, and it seems as though he could not have felt worse that someone left disappointed. Every time that I was near him, his smile and attitude was contagious. This is truly a huge loss for the comics world. This year has been tough for comics, and 3 of my favorite artists have now passed away. Mike Wieringo, Dave Stevens, and now Michael Turner.
Rest in peace guys.

When my father died of cancer, everyone praised me of how strong that we were through the process. We never lost our sense of humor, faith, or strength. There was no quit in my dad. He always taught me that death should make people pause for reflection. To ask yourself, what can I learn from them? From my dad, it was to never give up. Even though I didn't personally know Michael Turner, his death still feels like someone telling you that a puppy got hit by a car. Even if it isn't YOUR puppy, it still is something that no one wants. Michael Turner was 37 years old, which is 6 point something years older than me. I could take away Turner's love of life, his work ethic, or his no fear approach. Instead, I will look at his passing as a kick the pants that I have needed for a while now. He was an incredibly talented man, and now he is done drawing. I am 29, no where near as talented, but I also don't practice. I don't put in the work to even be remotely successful. I've grown comfortable in the bed of laziness, rather than push through a creative block. A creative block? Are you kidding me? Turner drew even after his chemo treatments, and while dealing with cancer, and I can't just draw SOMETHING because of creative block? Well, no more. Turner's legacy to me will be his art that I have loved, as well as be a well loved guy. His artwork hangs above my computer desk, watching over me. From now on, when I need some inspiration, I will look at how those of us that have any talent shouldn't squander it, since we never know when it could be one of us that the art community is mourning.

Thanks to all that read.

also, I can't change my emotion in the box here, so it distastefully will say joy. Please ignore that as I am melancholy.

Keep on drawing and keep on dreaming
Stew

She is going to get a sketchbook, do some art in it, and then send it along to another artist to draw in, and lather, rinse, repeat. There will be 52 artists involved, and I am going to be one of them. Basically, I will have 5 days to create something in the book, then mail it to the next artist. I think this is a really cool idea, and can't wait to be part of it!
Here is a link to the blog page about the project:
Get with the clickin already

In other news, I had entirely too much to drink celebrating Tony's birfday last night, but I had a beer, so I'm fine. Good times were had by all.

School is going alright, but I can't wait for it to be over for a few weeks, so I can work on some drawring again. I haven't done much of any real art this semester, and it has felt really weird.

Well, that is all for now

Stew

Keep on drawing and keep on dreaming
Stew

The event will be $25 per person, and the proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society in memory of my Dad.
If you would like to make a donation, we are accepting them at the myspace page we set up for the event. The site is [link]
We also need donations of things for door prizes, or just general prize type donations. If anyone who reads this knows of someone/someplace that would be willing to donate, please ask them or e-mail us the info @ info@bowlingdowncancer.com.
Hopefully, we can get a big draw and give away some cool stuff and raise money to help fight this awful enemy!

Thanks for stopping by, here's what's new in the snowglobe of my life:

I fell behind in my school, as I just have had absolutely no want to do the work, and various other things that have sabotaged my plans.
I'll be uploading some stuff I've done tonight, and maybe again before the weekend is done. I'll post them to deviant art. If you don't see anything new in the gallery, check the link that says scraps, as I may post them there. The stuff I've done so far are 40 minute drawings, and nothing spectacular as they are more review and for learning structure.
In the bowling league I am in, I bowled a 699 series last week. My games were 241, 200, and 258. My average is something like 224 right now, which is waaaaaaaay higher than my previous high of 206. I'm hoping I can keep going at that pace, but we'll see.
Gen has been in Florida since last Tuesday, and it has been really weird. This is the first time I have been in the new place alone for this much time. I have Halo3, but I haven't played yet because I have been too far behind in homework. Soon. Soon.
Since my last blog, I am now another year older, and it happens to be the last year of being in my twenties. I thought I would care, but I don't really. I don't feel any older than I did before, and I'm sure next year will be the same way. The only thing that will bother me is that I had hoped that by the time I was 30, I would be in some art field. I guess that will be pushed back a bit, unless something random happens.
Now for sports. Woohoo to the Cleveland Indians for clinching the Central! And their prize? The New York Yankees, who have straight out owned them this season, winning all 6 games against the Indians. Ugh. Hopefully, the Tribe's pitching gets it done.
Man was this a great weekend to watch some college football! There were a bunch of upsets in the top 15, and The offensive genius Charlie Weis lost another game to start this year for Notre Dame at 0-5. I will give them credit though, they did play a better second half than Purdue did, so maybe they can get something going next week. Then again, their schedule is going to include the beast that is USC down the road.
What the hell got into my Detroit Lions? Sure they looked as bad as the Eagles uniforms last week, but now they get the former monsters of the midway, Da Bears. The Bears don't have Sweetness anymore, so we'll see how this goes. For the first time in a long time, I actually feel like the Lions have a freakin chance against the Bears. Unfortunately, Rex Grossman won't be playing QB against the Lions, or I'd really like the Lions chance to win. Damn coach pulling Grossman before this week.
Alright, my break from drawing is over. Time to get back to work.

Keep on drawing and keep on dreaming
