Which would mean shameless self-promotion, marketing, and finding people of incredible talent because unfortunately, they still seem to flock here.

ATTENTION ARTISTS

Circle Dark Publishing will be a publishing company dedicated to pushing and breaking down boundaries. The two co-founders of CDP are tired of their author friends coming to them saying things like, "My publisher wanted me to do complete rewrites because they said my hero was too dark," or "My publisher said my hero has to do this, because readers don't like the things he's currently doing."

Circle Dark believes we should give more credit to the authors than that, and more credit to the readers for being more intelligent than that. As a result, the range of work CDP will be willing to accept is much darker than that of most publishing houses.

And we will need artists to match.

This is not yet an open call for cover artists. This is... a warning. That something wicked this way comes, and if you want to be part of it, rethink your position and rethink it again. We intend to push YOU to your boundaries and break them if we can.

An open call will be posted here at a later date, but first we will extend private invitations to certain artists we've seen and feel fit our criteria.

Those of you who watch me here, spread this message around! By the time CDP is ready for an open call for artists, I want dA to be ready.
I find I am no longer interested in deviantART, in being a part of deviantART, no matter how small, nor am I interested in what deviantART seems to stand for. It's only fair, because deviantART as a whole is not interested in me or what little I have to give to the artistic community.

I thank everyone who has ever commented on my work, watched me, supported me in any way, and I thank all who made themselves a part of the community effort to support Jark and get answers from the Corporation. It didn't do much good as far as answers go, buty we were closer for a time, and we feel better for having done it. I do, anyway.

Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort - My Part - Edit

Edit: I'm a little disgusted that after Jark's termination, this community was up in arms for a single individual, that I personally got more watches and page views than I've gotten in my entire time here on dA...

And all but ONE person ignored my journal on this horrific, crippling disaster.

It disgusts me because, to me, that shows the true colors of a LOT of people. When it's a political battle, something down and dirty, you're all there for it. But when it's helping your fellow human beings, when it's something potentially uncomfortable for YOU, emotionally, because you have to acknowledge pain and suffering and try to help do something about it, you're no where to be found.

Shame.

Not you, , and you knew I wan't talking about you. )

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let's screw dA politics for a moment to take a look at something more important.

I'm going to assume that no one hear lives under a rock, and everyone knows about the devastation Katrina left in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi.

I live in northern Louisiana. While we didn't get anything here but a little wind, it's still affecting us because many of the evacuees are coming to our area. One of the local colleges has a shelter set up in the gym. At work, we spend a great deal of time reading news articles and viewing news footage and pictures. If you haven't, take a look at cnn.com or msnbc.com or any other news website. It's horrible.

There are food drives and donation drives and blood drives and a million other kinds of drives going on in order to help here in the area. People who don't live here are taking special orders of whatever it is they create, or selling a certain number for money going to the relief effort.

For my part, I've decided to auction one or more of my art pieces, and all the money from the auction will go to an organization, America's Second Harvest, for the express purpose of helping the survivors/evacuees from Katrina.

The pieces in question are all posted at y!Gallery: [link] That's my front page there. Anyone going there for the first time will have to register in order to view some of those pieces, and to vote in my poll. If you're homophobic, suck it in and deal with it for the few mintues it will take to view those pieces and vote.

Take my poll, in one week I'll start the auction. Hopefully by then, I'll have something specific worked out with America's Second Harvest to make sure the money goes to them.

Thanks for any who vote and help out in any other way!

[link] - The Corporation moves on. Meaning, the Corporation has decided, once again, to completely ignore the Community. The Corporation has decided that introducing new features is the best response to a Community that demands NOT new pretties, but truth.

To those who are being fooled by the promise of new features: DON'T LET THIS DETER YOU. Did he answer any questions? Did he ACKNOWLEDGE anything at all?
-------------------Previous Journal Entry--------------------------

As of today, I have removed ALL of my art, including the Jark/community related ones in protest of this mess and 's silence of rhetoric. Because while he speaks, he says nothing at all.

If, in one week's time, we have a substantial answer, I will return my entire gallery and continue life on dA.

If, however, there has been no more answer than previously given, I will delete all pieces in storage and leave dA for good.

I have no problems at all with leaving a website that is only a company and not really a community, in which the CEO hopes to sort the "good" deviants from the "bad" deviants.

This is my decision. I'm not asking anyone else to leave at the end of a week. I AM, however, asking you to participate in the week-long protest. The more people who participate, the more likely it is to be effective.

[link] - A plan proposed by as the only plausible way he sees of making this whole mess get resolved. It relies on us being able to get as many deivants, and especially "high-profile" deviants, on board and willing to work with us.

I think an emphasis when speaking to these deviants should be on the fact that this will only be for a week. After a week, they can go back to their lives if they want, whether we've done what we needed to do or not.

Personally, if this doesn't work, I'll give up the ghost, permanently remove my gallery (as much as one CAN permanently remove one's gallery here, as emphasized by 's previous journal), and find some other gallery. I love y!Gallery so far, and as I'm only a low-profile artist here, I'm not too concerned about finding another gallery with great "features" to host my female-oriented work.

Also, if you haven't already, go take a gander at 's latest journal and decide whether or not you think he's finally taking us seriously.
-----------------------Previous Journal Entry------------------------

What, you may be wondering, can I do to further the cause of deviantART and Jark?

has been a guide throughout this whole mess, and once again he has come through for us with a journal that is insightful. It breaks down the problem and proves WHY we should be involved, WHY is concerns us. He also gives some useful ideas for how to proceed today and after today.

One of these ideas is approaching the artists you know are very influencial on this site and engaging them in a conversation about the issue. Well, I'm not very good with "conversation," per se, and could never be as logical as Justthorne. Still, this idea struck me because I had already been thinking what a shame it was that the more popular artists seemed to collectively be taking a neutral, even apathetic stance.

So, that's what I've been doing so far this morning, noting some of my favorite artists, the ones I know have a great deal of influence, and asking for a little bit of their time.

The KEY, people, is to NOT threaten violence, to NOT get riled up so you become rude, and to keep your language calm and polite.

[link] - Justthorne's latest journal, including a dscussion of the Submission Agreement we all enter into in submitting to deviantART.

-----------------------Previous Journal Entry-----------------------------

Well. It's over. Yellow Day, that is. Mind you, I don't think this fight is over, not by a longshot. We still have no answers. We still have a President/CEO who seems too cowardly to come out of his hidey-hole and address the community with integrity and honesty.

What now? See the previous journal entry below for that.

If you're still questionin if what has done is really wrong, then here's another well thought out and logical journal for you: [link] .

Read it, see if it makes sense to you. If it does... then keep going, keep fighting, keep asking for answers.

I find it very telling that Jark was removed from staff only a few days before the deadline of his ultimatum.

Very telling indeed.

Further update: [link] A thread of conversation that shows 1) the junior staff members know as much as we do, which is NOTHING, so people stop harassing them and 2) that, as much as they are not to blame for what has happened, they do not have a very good opinion of us. Is this because of the many deviants who are being unecessarily rude? Is it simply because they blindly trust in their leadership? Probably a little of both and of other reasons. -- Apparently this has been removed because of people being unable to restrain themselves. Sad.--

Certainly there are some "bandwagon hoppers" as you call them, who are doing this simply because they see it as "cool." But I find it highly insulting that all of us fighting not JUST for Jark, but for the community and the ideals he built, grouped into that category not just by you but by a number of people. We are not sheep simply because we all share an opinion and all decided not to lay down and take what we see as grievous wrongdoing. Perhaps this idea, that large groups of people who all share the same ideals and goals and are willing to do something about them are all merely SHEEP, that keeps any real good from being done in the larger world outside dA.

I agree with you that people should do a great deal of reading and make an opinion based on reading ALL the facts, and I also agree that any comments made to should be made in the most polite manner possible.
Okay, I've been playing around with the semigloss paper and printing out copies of my artwork on it. Sooooo, that means I actually have a few that are printed and ready to be sold if anyone is interested.

Please be interested... like everyone, I can use all the financial help I can get.

Here is the list of the pieces I have printed, and the prices I'm asking for each:

Water Spirit - Can be seen here: [link] $5 (because this was the first print off, and isn't superb quality, though it's still okay).

Kiernan Triad - [link] $10

Michael - [link] There are two different printouts of this one, a regular sized print, and a little one on regular sized paper. The little one was an accident, but it's kinda cute. ^_^* So... $10 for the regular size and $5 for the little one. EDIT: $10 size Michael is SOLD.

Raphael - [link] $10

There we have it. Let me know!

The friend I went to MidSOuth Con with is now so enchanted with conventions that she's putting one together herself! And shec can do it, too.

She's a published author who writes erotic romance.

So, here are the basics as we know them so far:

ErotiCon LA will be a convention focused on the celebration of all things erotic. There will probably be a no children under a certain age rule.

There will be erotic literature and art, but Alicia wants content for the panels and events from all sorts of areas, including anime and manga, fanfiction and fanart. I am in charge of gathering guests and panelists for the anime and manga programming, but any writers and artists I can wrangle up are welcome as well.

ErotiCon LA will take place in Alexandria, Louisiana in the Spring of 2007. An exact date hasn't been decided yet.

If anyone is interested in helping out in any way, or being on a panel, please join the ErotiCon LA mailing list and fill out the information in the appropriate database. The url is: [link]

Alicia has also registered a domain name for the con, but she hasn't gotten anything up yet. For future reference, the url is: [link]

And just for some information about the woman who is putting this all together: [link]

That's it for now, folks. I'll update on how things are progressing when I know things.

Tomorrow I'm flying out to Memphis to attend MidSouth Con. Not only am I attending, but I'm a panelist. O.o Do NOT ask me how THAT happened. It's a long story.

Anyways, I'll be on a panel on Friday at 6 pm on "Girlfriends in Anime: Human vs. Non-human." Yeah. You read right. When I was told the topic, I went: "What the Hell?!?" And said it several times afterward.

On Saturday at 6 pm, I'll be on a panel titled "How Anime has Affected Western Culture." MUCH better. Makes sense, AND I wrote a paper almost about this that can be tweaked somewhat to fit.

I'm REALLY wishing they had put me on the fanfiction or yaoi panels. ::sighs:: Those I would have felt confident doing.

Anyways, if you're in the Memphis area, stop by and say hi at MidSouth Con. YAY!
Just so you know, I can't pay for your services. Not in money, anyway, or at least not at the moment. Damn all that good manga!

Anyways, I'm a writer, and I've got my world I've created, but I suck at drawing maps. I've tried; I've got the basic geography down, I just need someone else to take what I have and make it visually believable.
Seriously, I love the artwork, it's so beautiful. All of the characters look like perfect dolls. Not realitisc, but it makes them soooo nice to look at. The men are all just as if not more beautiful as the women. What I REALLY love, though, is that just because they're pretty, not all the men are gay.
I'm a drooling yaoi fangirl, I love my yaoi as much as the next drooling fangirl. But I also like to think that pretty boys don't HAVE to be gay.
Okay, finally finishing this Oni-Con report. ^_^* Sorry.

Okay, so yes, on Saturday Anikira groped Scott McNeil. It’s kinda scary to think he must be used to it, but he must be, because it only got his attention for like, two seconds. All was good, though, because a few seconds later he announced “Okay, I have to get to the panel now, but you’re all coming with me, so let’s go!” And we did. And Anikira got to escort Scott up to his seat.

It was the male voice actor’s panel, and it was pretty amusing even though 1) it only lasted about an hour, and most of that was spent on ONE question and 2) Scott McNeil was the only one I even recognized a character he voiced. Poor guy, he was asked to do the Duo scream (you know, the scream Duo gives when he watches Deathscythe getting destroyed). He rose to the occasion, however. Or should I say fell? As he ended up on his knees in a crouched fetal position. He really is a very funny and nice guy, if a little huggy. He like to hug. And kiss. A lot.

SM, Anikira and I snuck (sneaked?) out of the panel five minutes early in order to get a good position in line for the autograph portion. So we were like, third in line, and finally got him to sign our badges, and when he saw the shirt I was wearing (big orange shirt with Tigger on it) he looked and me and said, very conversationally, “You know… the wonderful thing about Tiggers is….” So we all got to sing the Tigger song.

At some point, we sat through a little bit of the AMV contest, but there were no more chairs, and sitting on the floor was uncomfortable, so we left after only three or four videos. I did get to see one made up of scenes from the X series, though, and so I have taken this all as a sign that I am meant to collect all of X! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Um, yes, okay.

Let’s see… um… then we got henna tattoos in artist alley, and THEN we went to dinner, trying very hard not to smudge the henna before it dried. Easier for Anikira and myself, with ours on our arms. Not so easy for SM, who had to get hers on her upper chest. It LOOKS good, though. At Olive Garden, we TRIED to get free dessert by telling them it was SM’s birthday (which, considering it’s November 2nd, wasn’t TOO much of a lie) … but all we managed was to get her a little more public humiliation than she’d bargained for… oops. And I have been informed by her that I am to explain that the public humiliation included having to stand up with her shirt half-open (due to the drying henna) among a mostly male wait staff, while our waitress got the attention of the entire room to announce her birthday.

Sunday they convinced me to not go straight home, but to make one last round of the con and the dealer’s room.

I spent an absolute OBSENE amount of money.

And then we ran into Scott McNeil in the lobby again before leaving and stopped to say good-bye to him. He hugged us all. And wouldn’t you know it, Anikira groped his ass AGAIN. O.o

Well, at least we all had fun, ne?

Okay, SM is going to whap me, but I HAVE to say it once again.

I HATE TEXAS HIGHWAYS.

They’re so damn complicated. Yes, SM, I understand there’s all sorts of financial reasons ‘cause Texas is so much bigger and yadda, yadda, but still. I’m too simple-minded to understand that in order to stay on the highway I’m driving, I have to exit from that highway, or I’ll end up on a different highway. Bah.

Explanation: As I was driving to Oni-Con, I was supposed to take 59 South all the way down to Houston. However, not realizing 59 is NOT a straight shot down, but that I would have to exit three separate times just to stay on 59, I ended up on 96 and it was over an hour before I realized I was on the wrong highway. Well, good for me 96 IS a straight shot… to Beaumont. From Beaumont, it’s a straight shot across on I-10 to Houston. A little bit longer, perhaps, but it got the same result. I still managed to make it to Houston, then to Humble and the motel. Go me.

I WAS supposed to go to the Sheraton on Thursday to get my badge and stuff early, but as I sat in the motel after my highway ordeal, I thought… “Nah. I’ll sit my happy ass right here until SM and Anikira get here. I am NOT getting lost in Houston.” So I did. I stayed in the motel all night, except to venture out to a McDonalds SM was so kind to give me the directions to over the phone, and all morning Friday except to venture to the same McDonalds for breakfast. SM and Anikira arrived somewhere around 3:30 pm, at which point we all (after much hugging and glomping and present exchanging) piled into my car and headed over to the con.

Oni-Con, despite my issues with the people in charge and artist alley, was pretty awesome. SM, Anikira and I had lots and lots of fun.

We met on Friday in artist alley. She is awesome, check out her work on DA. I don’t know if she’s on SA too or not. Anyways, we stood around and talked to her for a bit, ‘cause she’s really nice, until SM became entranced by the chain-mail jewelry. We dragged her away from there only to enter the dealer’s room, at which point I’m told I made the mistake of all con virgins, and spent half my money in about five minutes. But that’s okay, because I bought a lot of cool stuff. I bought most of the manga then, including FAKE 6 and 7, which made a complete series for me. WHOO HOO! I also got Hellsing 3 and 4, only to flip through 3 later and realize I already had it, so I have it to Anikira. Speaking of Anikira, she sucks ‘cause she nabbed the ONLY copy of Pet Shop of Horrors 8. PLFT! But I did get Tokyo Babylon 3 and X/1999 3.

Friday night we were very bad and went to eat at Kobe’s, a hibachi. Expensive, but SO worth it. YUM.

Saturday was our big day, as I’m sure it was for most of the con-goers. After finally hauling ourselves out of bed and getting breakfast slowly delivered at the Waffle House, we got over to the con in time to spend yet more money. SM found a soulmate in the form of another former LARPer in the dealer’s room, selling cloaks and other handmade costumes. Actually, now that I think about it, she found her on Friday, and bought a cloak from her, and just wandered back over to talk to her Friday. As she was doing that, Anikira and I hugged the monster. Or, we hugged the guy in the monster costume walking around holding a sign that said “Hug the monster.”

There was a guy there whose costume was a headband with a sweatdrop on it. I dubbed him “Sweatdrop Guy” and his name shall ever be thus.

The highlight of the con, however, came when we discovered that crowd of people in the lobby wasn’t just traffic congestion, but was a group of giggling girls surrounding Scott McNeil, the English voice actor for Kouga in Inuyasha, Duo in Gundam Wing, the original He-Man and many others. Scott McNeil was the ENTIRE reason Anikira went to Oni-Con, as she is obsessed with him and ever character he ever voiced. So SM and I were trying to get her to get over her shyness and her refusal to be rude and plow through the rest of the crowd. We had to PUSH her through, and we stood there for a good 20 minutes to half hour as the entire con pushed rudely ahead of Anikira for his autograph. As he finally said “I have a panel in five minutes,” our sweet, innocent little Anikira reached around another girl to firmly grab Scott McNeil’s ass.

I'm gonna start posting most of my yaoi pieces at SheezyArt: [link] because DA's so bitchy about it. I believe it's who rightly ranted in his own journal about how someone can upload a photograph of a naked woman and it's art, but yaoi gets deleted. Stupid DA.

Anyway, SheezyArt has a better mature content warning system, if you ask me. Unless you specify otherwise, when you look at the thumbnail of a mature piece, all you see is the advisory warning until you click on it to view the full version.
Anyways, the ones I'm not sure of selling I've marked with an asterik:

Sorceress (after I color it)
*The Savage Beast
*Llyr and Ora (after color)
*Kiernan Triad
Water Spirit
Air Spirit
Lucifer

Those three marked are ones that are from my novel I'm working on, that's why I'm not sure about selling them. Also... er... not sure I can FIND them... I drew them before I moved for the fourth time. In a year. ::sighs::
3) Joining DAMN IT! Who do you have to kill to make these people pay attention to you?! What did I do wrong? I'm thinking about forgetting about it. Anyone else having this trouble?

I'm free for trades or commissions. If you're interested in a trade, though, you have to understand something.

In every trade, I always ask the other person to draw the same character. I HAVE to think that person's art will properly capture that character because he is complicated and subtle in many ways.

So if you ask for a trade and I turn you down, don't think it's because I think your art is sucky. No, I probably like your work, but just think it isn't the right style or doesn't capture the right sort of mood for my purposes.

Okay.

Many random things!

First off - Oni-Con, here I come! October 22nd, 23rd, and 24th I will be in Houston, TX with my bestestestest friend and our mutual friend who does not have a DA account. I... don't think.

Anyways, we'll be having lots and lots of fun at my FIRST ANIME CON EVER!!! I'll be in Artist Alley too, selling original work and a smattering of fanart, and perhaps even a bound copy of my most popular fanfic, the Sailormoon/Gundam Wing crossover Broken Wing (honestly, I don't know why so many people liked it so much...). All artwork sold there will be originals, no copies or prints. If you're there and you buy something from me, you'll have the only one except the scanned version on my comp. I won't be posting any of the pieces I take to Oni-Con on DA until I come back. And hey, if I still have any of them, I'll probably offer them up for sell to anyone interested.

Anyways, to continue....

Second thing - I AM EMPLOYED!! Or, I will be as of Monday. Which means less time for art, less time for fanfiction (gods, not like I've written any fanfiction in, well, FOREVER), and less time for working on my original short story and novel. :: sighs:: Oh well, leisure time, as weird as this sounds, does not come free. I do have a couple of commissions lined up (OMGs! Commissions!), but those I WILL make time to complete. As, well, I'm getting paid for them.

Third thing - Damn it, I WILL join, as soon as someone over there gets my note and responds....
Yes, I'll do art trades, but only if I like your artwork. Forgive me, I'm a snob.

Yes, I'll do commissions. Since I haven't made it a habit or a career to do art commissions, I haven't worked out a pricing system. Right now my policy is... you tell me what you want, I draw it, and after you see a scanned version of the finish product, we can hash out the price.
Requests? Hm. Maybe. ::shrugs:: Depends on the request, I suppose.

No, my ass hurts because I fell down the stairs about half an hour ago. I don't know if it was DOWN the stairs so much as my foot decided to not be under me but in front of me, took the other one with it, and suddenly I was prostrate on the stairs. OW.

I'm going to have a huge bruise on my ass. I think I'm going to go call my mommy...
[link]

Check it out, an article about a gallery owner in San Francisco who put up a painting depicting the abuse of Iraqis by American soldiers. She got attacked for it.

Now, it may be just me and my insane, crazy mind at work here, but it seems to me that it's a little hypocritical to respond to a work about violence with violence. I don't know if these are people who believe the soldiers were just following orders from higher up, if they're people who believe the photos were doctored and no such thing ever happened, OR if they're people who think the soldiers were right on, damn those dirty Iraqis, and Hell, they'd have been right along up there with them had THEY been in Iraq. But still... it's hypocritical. What's so great about a country where people preach the right of free speech and expression, then turn around and beat up a gallery owner for a painting she chose under that right to put in her gallery?

This whole thing is a stew of hatred and hypocrisy. And it's past the point where I can hope that it ends before too many more lives are wasted. I'm usually an optimist, but I don't know what to hope for anymore.

Bah, I miss the Dixie Chicks.
Well flaming crap on a stick! That's certainly going to put me behind schedule. Unfortunately, the particular shade of red is important in finishing the Kiernan Angel drawing. This requires a trip to Wally World in the morning to see if the one here carries individual Prismacolors. What will be even more interesting is to see if they carry the one I need. If not... well, then I suppose it's searching for the nearest arts and craft store. ::sighs::
