Back in December I bought myself a Visa giftcard just so I could order myself some goodies online. Seemed like a fair shortcut than asking friends to do so on my behalf and paying them back in concealed cash.

I first went to etoyer.com where I found a nifty Ishida figure.

Then I found discountanimedvd.com and was blown away by their prices. The first order had problems because they were out of stock on some of the gashapons I'd ordered. I was fine and ended up only getting a Shikamaru candybox figure and a patch. Second order had more problems because it charged my card but said payment was pending. I emailed them and they marked me as paid and I got a few more patches [gift projects for certain friends] and Return to Labrynth manga [so-so art, but any Henson geek will love all the sly references made to Fraggle Rock and other work].

Third time I made an even bigger order, using the same card. I was marked unpaid even though the money was taken. Again, I emailed them and they voided the order and asked I try again. I did, three more times with the same results.

When I made this order, my balance was $50.23.

I just checked the balance and it's now $73.08.

discountanimedvd.com made an error in my favor, it seems.

But I'm not trying them again.

I took my money to rightstuf.com, ordering the same titles I tried to from discountanimedvd.com and then some, and they just shipped half of the order today. The rest is on back order, but I'm happy.

With the exception of Galaxy High on DVD, the rest of my order is either yaoi or hentai [Mai Hime manga]. I'm a very satisfied fangirl.

Seems like I'm having odd luck from vendor errors lately. First the extra Bleach gashapon when Anistop.com mailed me the wrong one, and now extra money on my giftcard.

Meanwhile, I've got more than 50 newly scanned pieces, just trying to figure out what I want to upload and show off.

Now for the meme that everyone's doing, not that there's any point really since Christmas is a days away.
But that's the purpose of the meme...to make a wishlist no matter how outrageous it is.

We'll start with something simple yet vauge...
1. Anything Naruto. And I mean anything you can find. Period.

Moving on...
2. Collective File DX Figures, series two [Neji, Gaara, Temari]
[link]
These are serious love. I got the first series of Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura each at a different con. The details are beautiful. Sadly, only Temari is readily available everywhere while Neji and Gaara are hard to locate.

3. Naruto CCG boosters.
Originally this was going to be listed as a definite need with the recent Curse of Sand release, but we just got a shipment in at work. Any boosters are good, even Japanese. Though at this point Coils of the Snake boosters are now top priority.

4. Naruto Chakra Challenge Game.
[link]
I saw a commercial for this last month and about had a seizure. It seems kinda lame to play by yourself, but imagine the mischief caused when brought to conventions. Besides, who can resist a game that teaches you how to form hand seals?

5. Gashapons.
*gasp* Something not Naruto specifically. I'm actually rather picky about series/characters. I'm in serious need of Bleach characters and I've yet to own a Shikamaru figure. Seems silly otherwise to put a list within a list.

6. Plushies.
Same as above. Really picky.
But if you really want to make me scream like a teenybopper in heat...
[link]
Yup, you're looking at the first wave of TS plushes. Gaara and Naruto are the hotness, but like with #5 I still need to own a Shikamaru to feel complete.
Speaking of which, why haven't they made Temari or Kankuro plushies yet?

7. Dressmaker's Dummy.
You have no idea how handy this would be in costuming. Not only could I take accurate photos of my progress but make proper alterations for items that I intend to wear...without having to put it on and bend sideways in front of a mirror to adjust a snap.

8. Pomegranate/Mango.
I'm talking scent, not taste, though I also love the flavor of both fruits.

9. Japanese snacks.
We're talking Ramune soda, lychee jelly, wasabi-flavored trail mix. Anything but Pocky. I've got too much stockpiled pocky of all flavors and sizes.

10. Fresh Jrock music.
Been trying to find a FLOW CD ever since I saw them in concert at Afest this year. And got me hooked on No Regret Life. I just want stuff I can listen to while driving Sasuke to work.

Yay?

No I haven't forgotten this gallery or those who still avidly fave everything I post.

See, I meant to hand off some finished art back in June to a friend for scanning. But it slipped my mind. I didn't get around to sending it off until recently, meanwhile only adding to the pile.

As usual, I'm going to pace myself. I'll post something new every day off from work I get. Could be anything from lineart to sketches or even cosplay photos of recent costume work.
You'll have to stay tuned to find out.

You might also notice a watermark stamp on newly submitted as well as certain pieces already posted. Mostly it's a new security measure to protect the fanart that I'm actively selling in print or poster form, just to prevent anyone from printing out copy of their own.
It's not to say that you're not welcome to print anything of mine out. I say go ahead.

Also, don't forget that I still have leftover prints available --->[link]
And after the recent cons this year I have 5 more pieces to add to the list [and my gallery].

What do you think of the concept of plagerism?
Do you feel it's alright for some one else to cite your work as their own?

The cropping up of art theft has had its place on sites like Deviantart.com, but are often shut down. I've even had my art printed off and sold via the internet without my consent once upon a time.

But what comes to mind when the situation of a fan submitting a bit of art they didn't create to a publication? No contest or prizes, just a name in print with a bit of praise?

As a long-time subscriber to Shonen Jump, I've had my fair share of upsets with this mangazine. The purposeful skipping of majority of the Yugioh manga, labeling Inari as a girl once, calling Gaara a brunette then saying his hair is purple.
But I digress...

If you have the fortune of getting the January 2006 issue, I insist you turn to page 94 and check out the Naruto fanart page.

[link]
I'm pointing out the upper left hand piece. The artist cited in an Amy Kleiman.

What's really funny is that the original colored version can be found on DA under a popular Naruto fanartist, ~songosai ---> [link]

I've had the fortune to meet ~songosai, and needless to say her real name isn't Amy Kleiman.
What's worse is the snippet of praise they've given this girl. Praise that by all rights belongs to ~songosai.

Now, I'm not blaming Shonen Jump for this gross plagerism. They wouldn't be the wiser if I sent fanart by *kotori-chan or *gemmeh and put my name on it.

But what I'm trying to do is spearhead a movement that will get this mangazine to notice that something wrong needs to be righted.
If you're interested, just drop an email to Shonen Jump: fanart (at) shonenjump (dot) com, or you can go the site: [link] to email the editor there.
Try to word your thoughts on this matter in a mature and calm manner. I've asked them to reprint the fanart in question with an apology to ~songosai and proper praise given to her, so I think if you all do the same the collective voices will be heard.

At the very least, go to ~songosai's deviantart page and compliment not just that piece but all her art. She deserves support from fans who won't try to copy her work for their own.

Shit, this is so late...but between Rita and getting prints made for another con... Yeah, been really distracted.

So Sunday...
I woke up fairly early as compared to Saturday. Though I did spend a bit of time getting my Kazekage costume together. Mainly it was makeup. In fact, it was mentioned to me more than once that day that I was the best Gaara there...a few even remarking on how well I matched my hair to his color. They were certainly surprised when I informed them it was merely a wig.

Let me tell you right off the bat that I was honestly surprised at how much more love Gaara got versus Sasuke...especially when compared to Akon's ratio. I couldn't go five minutes without some one wanting to glomp and hug me. But then again if you read my last journal post about the recent arc in the manga...I think that kinda clues people in as to why.

For the most part, I avoided the video room save to watch a couple episodes of the live action Sailor Moon late in the afternoon just to kill time before the Sakamoto concert, but more on that later.
Mainly it was dealers' room and dogmatix's table and dealers' room again.
At one point in the dealers' room I got glomped by a Sand ANBU, ~SandLackey24, and we ended up spending three hours just chatting. Then a table in the artists' alley started playing FLOW! and we were tapped because they had a contest going where people snagged two cosplayers from said series of the songs that were playing. I ended up donating fifty cents so ~SandLackey24 could buy a Gaara figurine for her collection. Then she departed with her friends and I returned to dogmatix's table for chats.

Then of course I made my way to the concert. Simply put, Maaya is magical. Her voice is really strong, but she speaks so shyly. She seemed rather overwhelmed by the crowd's enthusiasm, but it was par for the course in an American audience. It made me feel special to learn I was there for her first visit to my home state. I can only hope she left with a good impression.

Then naturally, it was back to dogmatix's table yet again where I just basically parked it for the evening. At least until the art auction began. Since I had nothing better to do, I accompanied her while she hung around to see one of her paintngs get auctioned off. It was an all-around hoot.
Upon returning to her table, we ran into a gaggle of girls who were drawing penile jokes on paper. Ended up spending the remainder of the night fangirling about the yaoi-ness. There was the constant running joke about how I got my space in George's room, which was mainly had to deal with my standing there dressed as Gaara with hands on my hips and proclaiming: "You can trust me. It's not like I'm a psycho or anything."
Among the friends I made that night were Spazzyuke and ~MrsDannyFenton.

Ended up hitting the hay by 4am after going back to the hotel room. I thought about staying up the entire night to pack and eat ramen, but figured I'd get some sleep.

Woke up around 8am, wore regular clothing and deposited my key before heading down to leave my bags with dogmatix so I could maneuver the dealer's room without being weighed down. Spazzyuke and ~MrsDannyFenton showed up and we hung out until my ride arrived.
Much fun was had.

Gaara Lives!
He lives, wakes up...and most importantly has been guided by Naruto's voice not to mention it was Naruto's chakra used to revive him. And oh happy day that Gaara who was so reviled and feared in his village wakes up to find Every Fucking Shinobi from said village there to help rescue him - a point that is moot now that he's fine, but still an emotional revelation for the redhaired Kazekage.
I'm still in perpetual fangirl mode!

I'm interrupting the flow of my Afest con report updates to bring you a startling opinion. Well, some one has to cut through the spooge.

So, apparently I wasn't the only one in the country that viewed the power hour of Naruto. Though I'd like to think I'm more mature than the wanksters over on probably all Naruto-related coms. I'm more upset about the fans who want to kill Cartoon Network 'for ruining their fandom' and rag on the actors 'for not capturing the characters like the original actors did'.

First off, the casting wasn't half bad as a whole. I like that they got mostly fresh talent rather than recycling any number of usual Viz players. This way I'm not listening to particular characters and instead hearing some one else from another series entirely. Such has been the case with spotting familiar talent crossing over like Gourry being heard as Brock, Seto, and later the narrator from One Piece. Nothing against talent who can act and pull of characters, but once they're recognizable for their voices you can't help but picture Seto Kaiba in a recording booth with a script about pirates in one hand.
Naruto sounds like a breathier version of Ash, but it almost works in this case. With captioning on, I've discovered that in the second episode he said 'Believe it' no less than four times, not counting the mini-flashback Konoharumaru has on something Naruto said about ten minutes prior. At the very least, female Naruto sound positively perfect, especially the 'Master Eibisu' line moaned out.
From her one line, Sakura I know will grate on my nerves, but such is the norm for main-cast female roles. Hinata sounds almost right but she has just the wrong sort of tilt in her voice that goes from whisper shy to just being a whisper.
Mizuki was good. Iruka was tolerable. Both were at their best in calm insightful moments rather than the growling or screaming during their brief skirmish.
So far, only Konohamaru and Sarutobi are spot on. Even the little squirt's laugh is perfectly paralleled to the original VA. Bonus points.

The only editing that was done was removing the buckets of blood gushing from noses during the Sexy no jutsu gag. But considering that last week when showing these very episodes uncut to a coworker, she asked repeatedly what the deal was with the nosebleeds. The severe reactions lose the culteral flare contained in the gag, but are still as poignant. I guess it would just be hard to explain to most Americans why these men are suffering from spontaneous hemmoraging from nostrils just from looking at a naked girl.

The script is very nearly word for word the original dialogue. The only changed item was calling Kyuubi a beast instead of a demon, but that was to bridge the biblical gap lest viewers start placing satanic references on the poor misjudged nine-tailed fox.
I noticed that they switched between Na-RUE-to and Na-ru-TOE. I can't complain since most of their Japanese usage is correct: Jounin, sensei... Though they did have an odd way of saying Gennin as Gen-NIGH. I'm sure with future episodes they'll even the mispronunciations out to please the Narutards.

IT's a shame that the opening and ending songs we all know and love have been dropped, but that covers copyright issues that are a whole other pandora's box of trouble. And the original piece composed for the op/end is actually quite cool. Yes, they spliced up shots from several of the opening sequences, but it's a hell of a lot better job than the 'Hoy Oy' rap-filled opening to One Piece.
Another bonus point is the full on inclusion of every single piece of original music and sound effect, including the 'Next Episode' string.

As a whole, I rather am satisfied with the dub. It's not the best work, but it's tolerable.
Frankly, I don't see what the fan wankers are so up in arms about, but then again this has happened with every single fandom that has been through the dub wringer. An English dub will never get it right, just like there will never be a Hong Kong subtitled work that will have perfect English or timing.
But I take heart in knowing that by the time my birthday rolls around, people will be able to go into Hot Topic and buy me official Naruto merchandise to throw me a ninja birthday party. I couldn't ask for better timing.

In my rush to finish Friday's installment of my Afest report, I totally forgot to add in the little incident that followed my return from watching Beck. Just me and Laura in the room when we get a call from the lobby saying our food we ordered had arrived.
WTF? We ordered no food. Chalking it up to some one's mistake [either the resteraunt or orderee] she and I paid up and proceeded to devour the Chinese cusine. Later, the inebriated roommates burst into the room, accusing us of stealing their food that they ordered, nevermind we paid for it.
She and I merely shrugged and handed it over, recieving promises of being paid back. But they were drunk and were later banned from the hotel.

So yeah, onward with Saturday.
Between the serious lack of sleep on Thurs and the late night escapades of Friday, I slept in all morning. Yeah, it cut in on the con time, but I was bombed out weary.
Sorry to say, ~jmercedesd but the leg holster for Sasuke kept slipping. I'm probably going to have to alter it so it will hold up on my leg. However, the new pouch worked loads better than the suede one I made for Akon. Like with the Fire Candy ears, the only constant compliment I recieved was awe for the Sharingan eye contacts, which I wore ALL DAY. Yes, I am a masocistic freak! By the time I took them out my eyesight was shot for the day, nothing but motion blurs and double vision.
The good news was that I happened to be the only Uchiha cosplayer who wore them [I say that and not Naruto because there were a couple of Kakashis who had the one eye done up]. So people not only noticed but were enticed to take random headshots and run up to glomp the hell out of me.
Yes, I even got assaulted by fangirls in the restroom again.

I didn't really set out to watch much. Mainly caught Midori Days which is as cute as fuck. Didn't help that my interest was piqued by the fact that George cosplayed as the main character.
Picked up some more swag from the dealer's room and snapped a few photos.
Of course this was when I happened to have my first prolonged meeting with the ever-talented Dogmatix after perusing her offered prints in the Artists' Alley.
Eventually I found my way into the cosplay competition, not that I would ever grow enough bravado to actually showcase anything of mine. I think the only way you'd get me on stage is if a groups of friends convinced me to join in for a skit or a themed group.
The Malice Mizer group rightfully won. Though I think the funniest skit should have gone to the first Team Rocket spiel where just about every anime trend was tossed about as opposed to the second Team Rocket skit [which was similarly themed]. Honestly, I only think the second one won because they had a cute little girl dressed as a fairy go skipping across the stage and they sang a song. IMHO I rather preferred the yaoi implications made on behalf of Inuyasha via the Tetsuaiga.
Aw fuck it, I'll post what I remember of the skit:

James: I want to be popular again! I'll do anything!
Pikachu: Anything? You'll even stop hunting me down?
James: I'll even stop thinking about neutering you.
Pikachu: *flinches and runs off stage only to return with a cardboard box*
James: *skeptically* What's that?
Pikachu: It's what you need to get popular again. *pulls out a marker*
James: A marker?
Pikachu: It's what the marker's going to be used for. *draws an 'x' on James's cheek* You got the old-school charm, but now you need something fresh. *pulls out tinfoil*
James: What's that for?
Pikachu: *wraps it around James's arm* Now remember the rules of equivalent trade and it's all about the angsty back story.
James: Mommy I miss you!
Pikachu: You're doing great but you need something that no con is seen without. *pulls out a ninja headband*
James: But I know nothing about being a ninja.
Pikachu: Neither do any of the people who wears these either.
James: What else you got?
Pikachu: *withdraws a tiny sword*
James: What's that?
Pikachu: The Tetsusaiga.
James: Kinda puny, ain't it?
Pikachu: Don't worry, it'll get bigger.
James: I didn't know Inuyasha was a yaoi.
Pikachu: You'll also need one of these. *holds out a piece of paper*
James: A wanted poster? But I already have one. And what's this symbol mean?
Pikachu: Double dollars.
James: There's no such thing.
Pikachu: Ah, but the point is that you'll be more popular. And you also need to do one more thing. *leans over and whispers*
James: *blinks and then assumes the pose* Love and PEace!
Pikachu: Now you're only missing one more thing.
James: What's that?
Pikachu: A pink-haired uke lover!
Shuichi: *runs across the stage* Yuki~!
James: *stabs him with the 'Tetsusaiga'* There are...

Okay, so actually this is my Anime Fest 2005 report.
I would like to take this moment to say that this was without a doubt one of the best conventions I'd ever been to, made all the more memorable by the fact that I attended this one utterly alone. Okay, so I wasn't entirely self-reliable considering I petitioned online for floor space since Hillary [you ought to remember her from the Yaoi Paddle photos posted on DA] would be unable to attend due to an ass-whalloping combination of school and the fact that her arranged ride would be out of the country on business that weekend. But essentially what I mean to point out is that I basically went not knowing a single persion afforehand either online or IRL.
Unless you count that I chatted with George a couple of times prior just for the sake that he answered my call for help on the room situation and arrangements had to be made of when and where to meet.

So, this convention prooved me to be not only capable but hard core as well considering after I showed up on Thursday to pick up my pre-reg badge [the program books were teh shit, printed to look like thick volumes of manga - even had a few fanfics inside, one of which floored me with laughter about the 'ugly' male characters in anime, ie Rock Lee and Armstrong, beating back the likes of Mary Sues everywhere], I basically camped out in a hotel bathroom since my arranged room would not be checked in until Friday. Oops...
But I think retaining an uncomfortable position with little to no sleep, not for lack of trying at least, is all a part of the con-going experience. That's not to bring to mind Mistee's unusual snores to mind from Akon or the fact that she loved to rub against my feet while she slept. [nothing but love for you, sweetie!]

So Friday I woke up bright an early, if you could effectively call it that. Spent about an hour in that same stall [HA! I picked out a handicapped one, bitches. Leg room and changing room without having to move!] donning my first costume. Though honestly can you call it a costume when you're doing an original RP character based in a virtually unknown manga series?
Regardless, I dressed up like Toshi, my bat Half from Fire Candy. Not that I expected anyone to even know what Fire Candy was [though I did meet a gal Sunday who lamented that she hadn't seen me because she -loooooved- that series] but at least my candy filter was top-notch. At best, everywhere I went people kept saying 'Elf ears!' or 'Awesome ears!'. No one took my photo, but I do have photos of myself wearing said ears and plan to burn the rest of my last roll from Afest showcasing not only my costume but the filter I lovingly constructed.
I didn't dare go into the dealer's room with all my luggage [all two bags...lord it wasn't -that- much, but still cumbersome to maneuver in tight areas] so I mainly camped out in video rooms [watched about four hours of Tenshi na Konamaiki and Air] until I got the call from George that they'd arrived.
Dumped my stuff and finally got to visit the dealer's room. Not a whole lot to behold since it was technically still a school/work day for normal people. Rather sedate and small.
Mostly the hotel lobby was flooded by emergency types that drove in all the way from Cali to help out witht he Katrina victims. I got first-hand info from con volunteers that over 50 badges were given to evacuees who were anime fans and that any of these volunteers were welcome to wander the con area free of charge.
Around sunset we ['we' being George and his two friends who had driven in from Houston with him and myself] headed to downtown Dallas and ate at TGIFridays. We eventually came back and met up with the rest of the room leeches, most of whom seriously freaked me out with their eagerly boisterous and drunken manners.
I got bored watching the sex shows on HBO and made my way downstairs to the video rooms again to catch Bleach and Beck [both of which I own, but oh well...].
I think that's it for Friday's report. I'll do the rest of the con in another post since this one's long enough as it is.

Friday's costume. I recycled my Sasuke that I wore three years ago to Animazement, though nearly everything had been replaced. In fact, I think the only original pieces are the armbands.
This was Saturday's costume, the Kazekage Gaara's new threads. The coat was actually a self-altered Neo Matrix coat pattern that was finished in two days. The vest was hand-stitched out of vinyl.
Yes, I'm so hard core that I even shaved my eyebrows.
This was a special request photo by ~jmercedesd due to our ongoing crash RP where her Hatsuharu is currently involved with my Sasuke.
Interesting note, the guy was actually wearing a yellow button on his lapel that read 'yaoi'.

I am exhausted and drowsy and hovering somewhere between hungry and woozy. But dammit, I'm going to give my con report if it's the last thing I do.

Thursday:
Left the house around 6pm and showed up at the hotel just after 8. It took some time, but I managed to locate Wolf, my provider of room for that evening until Haruka flew in.
I got to hang out with con staff at a great sushi resteraunt and invited to take a con newbie by the name of Charlie around with me.

Friday:
Ended up waking up at 6am and spent about two hours getting into costume. Yup, the Sasuke one. It came out a hell lot better than the first time I ever did him and certainly an improvement since the photos from Halloween.
I met up with Charlie by pure chance rather quickly and took him down to the main floor where we met up with some Gaia people, namely Jennoasis and a girl who was dressed as Rin from Inuyasha. Then it was perusing the video and panel schedules to figure out if there was anything worth visiting until the dealer's room opened.
Once the doors allowed access, the first stop happened to be the yaoi table. But I'll get more to my loot list later.
Along the way, I was groped by an Orochimaru and accosted by fangirls in the bathrooms. I managed to get a [non-yaoi] photo with a Naruto and two [yaoi] photos with Hatsuharu for ~jmercedesd. One of the Harus was male and wore a 'yaoi' button to boot.
Eventually Haruka showed up with her mother and friend, Mistee, in tow and time was spent showing her around in much the same way I showed Charlie around.

Saturday:
I woke up at 7am to get into costume, and was pretty much dressed and ready to go by the time everyone else in the room was just waking up. Sadly, because people took their time and then decided they wanted doughnuts and coffee, we ended up showing at the con just this side of 12pm. So I missed the first Naruto photoshoot.
Yes, I premiered my Kazekage Gaara costume [sans gourd] and even went so far as to shave my eyebrows for the part. Ironically, the only one who noticed without my telling them was a Rock Lee cosplayer. LOL
I was immediately latched onto by a Naruto and encouraged her to glomp me every time I was spotted. Around the 5th occurance, we ended up hanging out for the duration of the day.
Also took photos with a new version of Naruto as well.
The second Naruto photoshoot went well with a higher attendance. There was a great 'Evolution of Gaara' group shot that included a child version, the original version, and myself.
This day would have turned out better for myself if my nerves hadn't screwed up my stomach to the point of sheer ickiness. Or perhaps I was just too tired.

Sunday:
Woke up around 7:30am and packed up. Took a taxi to the hotel [I ended up staying in a seperate one altogether] because Haruka and crew were flying out in the morning. No costume since everything was loaded onto my back like a pack mule.
Met up with Charlie and my Naruto friend and perused the dealer's room one last time to get any last minute gifts for friends and find any more treasures.
Ended up going home around 4pm when my ride arrived.

The Loot:
4 SasuNaru doujins - I bought two at seperate tables and they turned out to be sequential in a longer storyline, another had aged them 5 years and even had Gaara.
1 KakaSasu/GaaSasu doujin - only bought for the Gaara part.
3 Naruto plushies - Naruto, Sasuke, Gaara.
Konoha pendant - I got the only one they had left
Holographic Naruto postcard
Gaara's birthday card set
1 Fruits Basket [non-yaoi] doujin
Fruits Basket wall scroll
Official Hatsuharu Ox fleece hat - reversible from 'black' to 'white'
Haruka stationary
Edward Elric statue - shirtless version
Official Yaoi paddle - softcore/hardcore version
'Cosplay Junkie' tee-shirt
'Yaoi' tee-shirt
2 Naruto prints from the Artists' Alley - furry Kyuubi Naruto and a stylized Team 7

I was also given a keychain as a gift of Naruto with the caption 'Ramen is my bitch'.

I think Sunday Syndrome is just the worst. I keep crying...
Maybe I ought to take my Naruto friend up on her offer of going to Animefest in September.

First off I needed to get that mini-emo whine about getting a subscription off my front page.

Secondly I wanted to announce with much glee as humanly possible that my ultra-special and secret Kazekage Gaara costume is finito!
Yes, finished!
Of course, I'm still working on the gourd, but you know at this point it's wholly optional since Gaara in his new togs only wore it for two whole chapters of the manga before being trounced and 'sploded into a semi-unconcious state.
Of course what he's going through right now in the manga makes me weep for him and hoping that Naruto delivers much-needed kyuubi justice on the Red Cloud ass.

In other news, my right leg is internally tore up because I was firstly stupid enough to run a freaking 5k race for breast cancer and then followed it up by taking short jogs through the store where I worked.
Shin splits, I say!
So now I'm limping about on a lame leg.

So Mother's day came and went. My mother just showered my [preggers] sister with oodles of love and attention.
But it's alright. I made my own day of giving myself my own attention. And about a buttload of anime swag liberated from The Anime Store.
I love it when Ray restocks the gashapon figures.

Finally, I can get back to downloading Naruto music. Not that it does me any good without a burner.
These mp3s will rot!

Bottled Water
Most conventions are attended during the summer. It's hot in the summer. You'll be walking around. You will probably be wearing some elaborate costume. All good reasons to make sure you have plenty of bottled water on hand. A leading cause of fatigue is dehydration, and you don't necessarily need to be out in the desert for that to happen. This is especially crucial if the con happens to be taking place in Mexico. You never drink the natives' water. Hell, this is true if the happenings are in California. It's close enough to worry.

Sketchbook and Supplies
Imagine for a moment that Michelangelo ran the manga circuit back in the 1500s. That guy's doodles on a cocktail napkin would be going for millions right now. Mike is pretty much dead, but that shouldn't stop you from soliciting the hasty masterpieces some artists are willing to shell out at a con. Ask real nice and maybe your favorite manga-ka will lay down some lines in your book. Ask nicely enough times and you can amass a sizeable collection of original work. Hint: Most artists have too much respect for Inuyasha to draw him sharing a steam bath with Sesshomaru. I've tried.

Empty Duffel
Why an empty duffel? 'Cause you're going to fill it up when you get there. Chances are you'll be more than a few blocks away from MegaCon3000, and thus you'll need to plan for bringing home all your goodies. And oh, the goodies that await you! Rare doujinshi, original art, signed cels, discarded cigarettes, overpriced UFO dolls, half-eaten sandwiches, a bootlegged copy of the Naruto Movie, and the remains of the fanboy who insists Goku can kick anyone's ass. Leave the memories in Atlanta, baby. Just not the evidence.

Get Medicated
Most otaku get sick pretty easy, especially during a long car or plane trip. To combat the stress aches, it's crucial that you bring along the proper medication. Obviously, muscle relaxants are the quickest acting drug and will provide hours of solitary, soothing comfort as well as pretty colors. But assuming your drug run gets botched, stomach goo like Pepto-Bismol and Imodium is great for when that nasty convention food hits. And oh, will it hit. Like a sledgehammer to the crotch. Believe me, you do not want to know where that stuff has been before it gets into your mouth.

Poster Tubes
There simply isn't anything finer than a 36" x 48" poster of a half-naked J-rocker hanging on your bedroom door, or better yet, your ceiling. Your mother will go nuts! And there's no better place to peruse a fancy selection of wall art than an anime con. But alas, not planning ahead for decorative shopping for your pad can only result in one thing: the creasing, bending, and eventual mutilation of your purchase. That's why poster tubes are a must. Protect your investment on the way home with a long, hard cylinder. Ooooh, that's some hot talk right there.

Smell Good, Not Bad
Sad to say, but there's always a serious lack of nice smells at a con. Don't contribute to the chaos; make sure you bring plenty of armpit deodorizer with you, and make sure your breath is always smelling as fresh as a baby's behind (the only time something should smell like ass and still be acceptable). In fact, bring plenty to share, since some con guests might require a mint or two during the course of the day. Offer it to them nicely, but forcefully. They'll thank you later, especially when con groupies are checking their molars.
Personal note: This tip can prove especially helpful for any male Tasuki cosplayers who are planning on making out with a girl they just met in the back of the yaoi video room. It has happened...

Sole Survivor
Was Dr. Scholl really a doctor? The world may never know. Lots of quacks waddling around these days, Mousse not counted. Medically certified or not, the man knows how to manufacture a good footpad. And considering that you're going to be doing a lot of walking at a con, you'll need them. There's nothing worse than cutting a fun trip short due to inflamed boils hemorrhaging at the base of your foot, some blisters oozing green puss all over your new Sketchers or your sixth toe creating some trouble with the other fellas. Slip in these pads and worry no longer.

Fill Your Belly!
You're in an autograph line or at a screening, and it hits you, that insatiable urge to stuff something unhealthy in your gaping maw. You'd better hope you stuffed your pockets full of emergency grub. A candy bar can provide the quick burst of sugar needed to remain standing for that surprise guest autograph session, or to stay awake during yet another insufferable fan parody. You can also avoid paying the exorbitant prices found for con food, which isn't any better than that moldy bag of Fritos you had stashed under your car seat. And may be even fresher.

That and...I have a loverly conversation with the clerk who checked me out. I love showing up people who claim to be anime freaks. Proof positive that I am an otaku.
$20 from my paycheck a week from now until the day I leave for my con.

Which con?
Akon, hopefully. At least that's what I'm planning on.

One small little problem. I hate attending alone.
The last one I went to, I was utterly miserable because the people I went with all wandered off to do their own things, leaving me alone. At least until I ran into YugiUsa...but that was only for a few hours.
I'm so socially inept and withdrawn out of my paranoid fear of rejection that unless I have just one person with me, I remain very much an introvert. Of course, once you get me around one person whom I know accepts me I become the most eccentric persona you'll ever meet.

Christmas came and went. And where was I?
Working!

Whose brilliant idea was it to keep a grocery store open on Christmas day? I swear every idiot in town had to buy the most mundane of things. Used to be that the only things open were the Chinese resturants.
Smiling duck anyone?
Oh yes... I happened to have double dose of asian cusine yesterday. First my grandmother wanted to treat me out to a 'Christmas lunch' before work and then my parents didn't feel like cooking when I was picked up.
Is it possible to overdose on Mongolian Beef?

So how was my holidays spent?
In isolation.
My parents went off vacationing. I got to foot their bill. I was left alone. Whee.
And then the family decided to gather tonight to exchange gifts. Imagine my utter depression to find out I would be working all day today and thus miss out. But my whining had some effect - my grandmother discussing with my uncle and arranging for everyone to wait until I got off work to open presents.

I had to explain to my younger counsins why my pile of gifts was rather large since come Christmas morn I didn't get to wake up to the onslaught of tradtional averice.
They got me a jeweled dragonfly broach and some makeup.
My grandmother replaced the alarm clock that my sister took from me during my trip to WA and $25.
My sister got me some tea [berry and green], a gel mask for my migranes, Chinese herbal hair stuff, and one of those lighted prisms with two crystals: one with an asian dragon and one with a fairy.

Now here's where it gets funny...

My parents also got me a lighted prism. Same base and everything. Only it wasn't originally for me. It was bought for some one else, but when they discovered that it stobed instead of the gentle bleeding of colors, they decided to get another one and switch the crystals, giving the stobing one to me with a western-style dragon battling a knight.
What was really ironic was that I also got my mother a lighted prism because she mentioned that she thought they were cool [hers was an angelic fairy].

The rest of my gifts...
Bamboo parasol, book on advanced Asian cusine, kitty plush that sings 'What a Wonderful World', Electric sicssors, and one of those purses with the initial etched into it. They promised me something else in addition, but they haven't found it yet.

Now, as a special note...I have mailed off all the 20 gifts I promised to my flist.
In return...I've so far gotten one Christmas card, an Inu/Miro doujinshi, a Gaara figurine that I can't seem to stop carrying around, a new icon, and a personalized [very romantic] song.

Thanks to all who've been cheering me up.

Christmas - YAY!

Step One

- Make a post. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info available, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two

- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

Sakata's Wishlist

1. Gaara Plushie to keep Naruto and Sasuke company. Or hell, anything with Gaara on it since I have, like, nothing with him whatsoever.

2. New copy of 'Labryinth' since my sister's old VHS copy busted and she stole mine to replace hers.

3. 'The Tribe' on tape or disc - don't really care. This is a beautiful cult series and the only way I get to watch it is when I spend Sunday nights at my grandmother's so I can catch it on some obscure channel.

4. A local homebody to attack the Konami games in the arcade with! It's no fun by myself.

5. Fishnet. Don't care what it is, just as long as fishnet is involved.

6. Paper clay. Lots and lots of paper clay - the kind that's made of shredded paper and you add water. Not paper maiche.

7. Bobby pins in a myriad of rainbow colors, or rainbow-colored. Just no glitter or 'girly' attachments/shapes.

8. Yugioh Cards:
The A. Forces
Fusion Sword Murasame Blade
[anything that can power-up warriors or spellcasters - or warriors/spellcasters to amp my deck for that matter]

9. Burned CDs that will actually be accepted by my CD player. For some odd reason, all the burned CDs that have silver backs won't play, but those with blue recorded backs will. Which sucks because most of my burned music is on silver and therefore I can't take with me on vacation.

10. Use your imagination here, folks - I'm all out of ideas.

---

Son of a---!
I still haven't plotted out my annual Christmas card. All this mindless work is getting me so distracted...
Then there's the extra-long list of people I'm giving presents to, not to mention my family. Though my cousins will relatively easy since one is obsessed with anime like I am while the other is...well...lazy.

Now I wander off to eat bankok curry.

...via a Naruto guild.

Spoiler Alert!
I found out something that perhaps some of you might find mundane. An excuse for you to exclaim that I find a life.
Righty-o.

This may already be common knowledge, judging that for a time I've been out of the Naruto loop.
[yes, at this point it will be safe to say that this next bit only truly concerns those who would consider themselves utter Narutards]
So I'll point out the potential spoiler in store.

On the scroll where Naruto signs his name in blood binding a contract with the mystical toads that live in the mystical other-realm where giant talking animals wait until summoned by paltry ninjas in a jam, there are other names scrawled on. These are the names of past nin who have signed the contract.

If you look carefully, you'll make out Jiraiya's name. But between his and Naruto's hiragana signature, there's another name.

[link]

Uzumaki Arashi.

And who was the last person we saw riding Mega-Toad's back prior to Naruto summoning him?

The Fourth Hokage.

You do the math while the fangirl in me squeals in delight.

Work has been swell.
In fact, my feet are still throbbing, but I think the swelling's gone down now. But this line of chashiering is nothing I haven't done before. Like putting on a well-worn sock and wiggling your toes around in the holes.

Speaking of socks, I still can't find my Blue Eyes White Dragon socks. I'll have to ask *The-Mad-Poet if I left them at her house by mistake. THough since she's now in South Carolina, it would be moot.
Or maybe I just need to clean up the natural disaster my room has transformed into.

Last week I was taken to a bi-annual book sale that's thrown by some doctors' wives, or something. There's no greater joy found than digging through boxes of bodice busting dime-store romance novels to find something worth while.
Surprizingly, I made a bit of a haul:
Bitten by Kelley Armstrong [finished]
Catspaw by Joan D. Vinge [finished]
Prince Ombra by Roderick MacLeish [finished]
Fire and Flesh by Evan Kingsbury [reading currently]
The Moonbane Mage by Laurie J. Marks
Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett
Faerie Wars by Herbie Brennan

Now I have plenty to read after work these days.

My birthday was unusual to say the least..

I got up at the ball crack of dawn last Friday as I have every day thus far this week. Only one co-worker remembered [he's a sweetie] but I didn't expect much considering I just started. Maybe I should have worn one of those huge buttons that proudly proclaims the special-ness of said day - like a blaring 'Kiss Me I'm Irish' attention-getters.

There were several points that I started tearing up. Mainly because I had memories of the past couple years and how my family never really did much to celebrate because all their money was used to visit me around Thanksgiving or Christmas [their collaborative 'all-purpose' gift, as it were] or that my friends [read former roommates] completely forgot alltogether.

I was tired and understandably upset, even when I got a call after work by my mother's best friend, Janet. They wanted us over to their local time share that night for supper. SO there went my chance to seek solace online from birthday well-wishers.

I spent most of the evening curled up in a chair reading Catspaw when I was suddenly ushered from the room along with Janet's two kids, Chris and Stephanie.

I'll admit that I sulked and pouted, then started to cry. But not the big wracking sobs - just a quiet depression that I was attempting to hide. Then they had to scrape me off the back porch to get me back inside.

Ladies and gents, faithful readers who haven't by now gotten bored of this numbing tale of events...
They threw me a party.
Albeit a small one. But I got a -very- large cake with Atemu/Yami on it and even bought the kiddie party supplies emblazoned with the YGO logo. Each member of Janet's family got me a card and my gift contained soothing implements to make my work-sore feetsies feel better [i.e. foot salts, pedicure set, foot scrubs/lotions].
I think the best part were the confetti poppers that were shot off in my face. After a lengthy shower I'm still picking the stuff out of my clothes and hair.
We didn't get home until 2am, and I was too bombed to bother getting online.

As childish and asinine as a YGO cake and decor might be, it's the acknowledgement of that tiny detail that makes me feel loved. This was Janet's doing with minnimal input from my mother.

Yes, my real birthday had been postponed because all money was spent last week celebrating my getting hired -and- my sister's birthday [which is exactly one week before mine].

Tonight, on All Hallow's Eve, I got my birthday.

Well, not like that. I worked all day long and celebrated by giving out whistle suckers that stain your tongue to my coworkers so when they smiled at customers it looked like they were bleeding from the mouth. Heh.

No, while I was at work, my mother went out to buy groceries. And my birthday while she was at it.
I pretty much knew where she was headed and what she was going to get, so the surprise factor was pretty much nil. Yet somehow she still managed to get me good.

Yeah, I got Kill Bill Vol. 2 as well as the accompanying soundtrack. Much to her chargrin being the Christian conservative she is. Yay.
And Hellboy. Can't forget that. But here's where it got surprising... I got the 3-disk director's cut. Talk about too much 'whoa'.
My mother can be cool sometimes, I think.

I mean, amazingly she did something equally as cool the night before.

...I witnessed a deer meeting the business end of a semi truck. The blood spread a good twenty yards or so and the poor animal was reduced to so much venison meat.

When you think about it, roadkill is a lot like death.

You see it all the time, passes you by. At times you are disgusted by the unidentifiable furry remains. Other times you feel a pang of sadness because some kid's Fido got caught chasing cars on the wrong day.
The only time it affects you is if you're the one who runs over the animal with a sickening 'thud' or go walking around in rotting guts accidentally.
The worst time to notice it is when you're stuck scraping your bloody smear of a cat off the street.

There was a kid on my bus that had two puppies. Both were struck by cars and killed, but neither of the corpses were disposed of. Every day on the bus, I'd see the carcases rotting away to scattered skeletons surrounded by tufts of hair.
I felt sorry for those kids.

Around the rural roads of Texas, roadkill is far more colorful than the vibrant wildflowers that are a crime to pick.
It's also a crime to hit an animal when it's on a leash.
Is that why redneck guys tally higher points if they hit a leached animal rather than a stray?

When I was younger, I had a reoccuring dream of death. Night after night I'd see this screaming fat kid get crushed right down the middle by a lowering door, the kind that Indiana Jones is rescusing his hat from constantly.
That was when I first experienced insomnia.

I had an interesting conversation with a man who claimed that "Niggers should just swim back to Africa with a Mexican under each arm."
My mother told me that was a real redneck.
I told her my father was worse because he would have called 'Mexicans' 'Wetbacks'.

Now I find myself inexplicably drawn to GaaraxNaru.

Perhaps there is no return from the dark side.

I'm just lucky I've never had to clean up a beloved pet off the pavement.

FEAR THE FLESH-EATING KURIBOH!

I got the sexy Sorcerer of Dark Magic card! Whee!

5000 years ago, the Egyptians did not possess metal to make chains. Rawr. 5000 years ago is roughly before the first pyramids were fsking built.

I've come to terms with the fact that I like Tristan, and that the dub does not like Tristan, and that the dub and I will always have irreconcilable differences regarding his status as the set up man for the straight lines.

Kaiba. I liked the (not-so?)subtle way that Anubis was using the high priest in order to re-fight the pharaoh. That was fun. And it was fun to watch him get thrown around by his hair.

Weevil and Rex even sulk together. It's either true love or pathetic friendship. (They got screentime, Mako got screentime, even Mai got a few seconds of screentime--which was clearly meant to be a precursor to the Duma arc--and yet there was no Bakura. What a bloody shock.)

Then again, there was no Devlin in the movie, either. Maybe he and Bakura got together after Battle City and decided it would be less mentally damaging to take acid than to hang out with Yugi.

Yami Yugi must have been in a really pissy mood if he let Yugi keep running away from potential duels like that. Oh, wait, I forgot--he was overtaken by the demon of plot development. Stretched-so-thin-it's-screaming plot development.

Speaking of plot development, in what universe would Kaiba turn over the task of finding a way to defeat Yugi's god cards to anyone else? Unless KaibaCorp is in the middle of a massive financial crisis or hostile takeover, that's just ludicrous.

"Téa, tell me the story about the bunny. . . ." The Very Happy Bunny! Whom no bad things ever happened to, making him very happy indeed! (There's a deviantart picture--something like "YGO Bedtime Stories"--that has Yami reading Yugi that exact story. I think we have proof that the dub writers are raiding the English fandom.)

Toon Dark Magician Girl was pretty darn cute.

The scene between Pegasus and Kaiba was the best part of the movie. Because I was reading subtext into everything, of course, but that doesn't change it being the best part.
Guys: *were having an argument on cards*
Pegasus: Now now, Kaiba-boy, let's not get nasty. *pause, smirk* At least not yet.
*REALLY LONG PAUSE*
Kaiba: *snarl* Let's just duel.

It was also really fun to watch Mokuba and Pegasus's conversation in the helicopter. I pitied all the parents in the audience who didn't know the backstory.

There were some moments of really great animation in here--like when Yami Yugi summoned all three god cards at once. That was nothing short of beautiful. But there were also a lot of really bad ones--like the fact that Mokuba spent most of the movie looking like a badly-drawn Chinese boy. If I could find a way to justify seeing this movie again, I'd go through and count the bits that they were obviously drawing after the budget was starting to run out.

And I'm not biased or anything, but Tristan got the best line of the whole movie: "Oh no, not more freaky magic stuff!

Téa is an butt-kicking magical girl. A suicidal butt-kicking magical girl, but one takes what one can get. (WHY did none of the guys immediately pull her back into the helicopter after she climbed onto the bar while they were flying? These guys suck.)

Did I mention Pegasus was back? Did I mention how cool that was? Did I mention he greeted Kaiba in a bathrobe?

The entire scene with the Sorcerer of Dark Magic reminded me of the final episode of Sailor Moon's first season.

Peten the Dark Clown was the cutest card EVER! I want him! He was adorable! *squishes Peten*

Yugi is no longer calling Yami Yugi "Yami." None of the characters are calling him "Yami" anymore. I'm wondering if Funimation is trying to pretend that episode at the end of the Duelist Kingdom arc never happened.

Yugi clearly did not learn his lesson from the Noah arc: don't open random doors.

The duel with Kaiba/Anubis and Yami Yugi would have been a lot more boring if it hadn't been interrupted once in a while by the grade Z zombie part. I liked the zombies.

Honestly, I think Kaiba got possessed by Yami Malik for that duel. Or Yami Malik possessed Anubis who went on to possess Kaiba, or . . . there was possession going on somewhere.

Osiris was probably already pissed that he got his name changed to Slifer, and now some little god of embalming is coming around claiming to be him? That's one easily foreseen divine smackdown.

Kaiba is the most willfully blind character I have ever m...

3) Marik's out cold. Maybe Yami Marik's mad because his former self can't feel the pain being inflicted on him.

4) These episodes are kind of extraneous, since thanks to the movie everyone already knows that Yami Yugi is going to win.

5) The shadows are growing impatient? Well, you've probably been feeding the shadows too much lately. They've gotten greedy.
6) It's really amusing to see Yami Marik wearing the Millennium Ring.
7) Yami Marik is cute when laughing. He looks like Naruto.
9) "The pharaoh's faith in Kaiba has invoked the powers of ancient Egypt." Lordy, I'm not even touching this one.

10) The animators are having lots of fun with the hands and eyes in this episode.

11) It's (another) creepy floating eye! (At least there's no dueling pyramids.)
12) Ishizu gets colored paler and paler.

13) Odion has his own problems right now . . . thanks to you, brat. *no sympathy*
14) Considering the body parts that have been taken from him--knees and wrists--if gravity still applies in the Shadow Realm, Yugi ought to hit the ground right about now.

15) Spinny spin spin!

16) Boys! Not in public!
17) . . . ooh. The switch between Yami Yugi's eyes and Obelisk's was a pretty bit of animation.

2) Uh, Yugi? I think Mahaad's having some trouble over there. . . . You might want to hurry and leave.

3) Good way to lay on the pressure, Joey. Why not just tell Noah not to screw up or the fate of the world is death while you're at it?

4) I miss Pegasus. At least he'll be back in the next arc.

5) YGO villains would be cooler if they would just shut up and look evil once in a while.

6) This rambling, somewhat-blindly-stupid character in the dub strikes me as a fake Gozuburo. How would identity theft work in a virtual world, aside from all the body-snatching? How do you snatch a body from the writer of the VR world?

8) "Oh no! It's a dead end!" You're running on the roof, what the heck were you expecting?!

9) . . . I thought the only exit was in the arcade. If Noah could open one wherever he wanted, why didn't he do that earlier? I can understand sending Yugi to fetch Kaiba, since Kaiba would be more likely to eat glass than listen to Noah, but he could have opened an exit for everyone else in front of that building and thus given Yugi more time. Silly boy. Silly plot hole.

9) This gives new meaning to being haunted by past demons.

10) I hope Kaiba isn't planning on dueling with that hand he just used to smash in a glass case. . . . There are times when you should not go for the Indiana Jones flair, darling. Especially since you don't seem to develop an actual medical bay in that blimp until Joey dies.

11) Kaiba: "You will all pretend this never happened. It was just a mass hallucination. If you admit to having seen it, you will be viewed as crazy." Note to self: fire whoever served the bad mushrooms last night.

12) This episode was great stuff. I haven't laughed so hard at YGO in a long time.

13) Today's theme is: a life-time supply of prozac should be given to anyone with the surname "Kaiba."

But this one's because I found this great Naruto fic, yet it's not on AFF.net or FF.net. Hell, it's not even available on a site - just on some girl's LJ in random posts as she finished each portion.
I wanted to partially share it, but also to mark down each post for my sake so I could read it again.

Damaetas is a nine part story by pellaz . It's Sasuke/Naruto, NC17, beautifully written, riveting, and heartwrenching. Not for the faint of heart (it made me cry several times) but I highly recommend it.
Just click on each [link] in order.

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do.

Finally he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway, it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey. He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They each grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement, he quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer looked down the well, and was astonished at what he saw. As every shovel of dirt hit his back, the donkey did something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up. As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed, as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and trotted off.

The Moral:

Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles a stepping stone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up!

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:
1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.

O.K., that's enough of that B.S. ... The donkey later came back, caught the farmer out in the field and kicked the shit out of him. Then he went over to each of his neighbors farms and kicked the shit out of them too for helping.

The REAL Moral:

When you try to cover your ass, it always comes back to get you.

2) Yami Yugi's eyes are drawn really creepy.

3) So are Kaiba's. So are every guy's, actually.

4) This "Nutrient Z" card . . . the original game of Duel Monsters had only 2000 life points. So if Pegasus made a card that would grant 4000 points when the dueler was at risk of losing 2000 or more, then wouldn't it only work if you were about to lose everything you had in one swoop? That seems a mildly useless card, at least under the 2000 LP version. Is there an implication that somebody else is producing these cards after Pegasus' death, or is it just one of those things I should ignore, like Isis and Malik playing with Duel Monsters cards before Pegasus even went to Egypt?

5) Oh, that's believable. I should cease trying to apply reality to these duels.

6) "This duel's over!" And you've said this how many times, Kaiba?

7) Téa's no longer referring to Yami Yugi as "Yami." She's gone back to calling him "Yugi." Hrm.

8) Ow.

9) I wanted Kaiba to win, since he needed an ego stroke after getting stomped by Yami Yugi (and unlike him, Joey's capable of going "Damn. I lost. Okay, let's revise the strategy and try again!"), but he's certainly being a jerk about it.

10) Poor Ishizu. It's like she's banging her head against a wooden post. I admire the fact that she hasn't resorted to screaming at Kaiba yet.

11) Devlin and Tristan work remarkably well together when insulting other people. A little more work, a little less in-fighting, and they could be a comedy team.

12) "The power of the ancient rumor"? WTF mate?

13) I have no idea how Yami Marik plans to go about taking over the world. His methods seem to change each time he talks.

14) Oy, Kaiba. Stop rationalizing and just help the guy.

15) It's Gambit! Ka-fwoosh!

16) Today's theme: Kaiba needs a second childhood, STAT.

1) If I were Kaiba, I'd be tired of baiting Joey by now. It's all generally the same comments, and Joey never reacts differently. You'd think for a genius it would get boring really fast.

2) Dude, he just said "behemoth." You rock, Quasi-darkness.

3) Aw, your Rod won't obey you? Welcome to adolescence, Yami Marik. It'll end around your twenties.

4) I like the detail with Téa's foot.

5) Seto, you have got to stop using Kisara as your crutch. One of these days someone's going to figure out an anti-dragon dueling strategy, and then you will be so screwed.

6) Joey's never been bright enough to quit when he had the chance. It's usually why he wins.

7) Did you just call your deck "full of wimps"? Heart of the cards, Joey! Heart of the cards!

8) I thought Téa was a dancer, not a gymnast.

9) Yami Marik seems unable to physically kill Ishizu. He always resorts to threatening her with the Item. I have to wonder if Marik lingers in him more than he claims.

10) "I have lightened the darkness. I have come. I have made an end to the darkness which hath become light indeed." -- The Chapter of Making the Transformation in to the God Who Lighteneth the Darkness, Egyptian Book of the Dead.
I was beginning to think that the hands people were ostentatious, but after this . . . all is forgiven, all is so forgiven.

11) Wiiiise move, Quasi-darkness. Never fight the pharaoh right after you've messed with his friends, because you will die. In little pieces. (This is, sadly, the mistake Yami Bakura keeps making.)

12) All the tedium of the previous episodes was worth it, just for this scene.

13) Oh, yeah, were Joey and Kaiba dueling? I forgot about that.

14) Devlin, Tristan, you boys really stink at this encouragement thing.
15) The Grave Robber card! Cute!

16) Poor Mokuba. No one should have to see their idol get his ass kicked twice in a row in the same day.

17) Okay, rather than let Joey have his BEWD card, he . . . destroyed it. Note to self: never date this man. Psychotic possessiveness, not sexy.

1) I would feel worse for Kaiba, but really. It's a game.

2) Y'know, hate and jealousy have fueled an awful lot of things in the past. Look at every war ever waged -- most of them are in the history books. Not so much the things fueled by friendship. Those are more personal victories than lasting ones.

3) Yami, shut up about destiny. Shut up now. In all this preaching to Kaiba about being the one chosen to save the world, I don't think you've recalled that out of all the stories about heroes and monsters, from the classical tales to the creation myths to the stories about the constellations, not a single one of them deals with redemption. You don't seem to have noticed this, but I think Kaiba has. So stop talking to him about destiny -- it's not helping to win him over.

4) Kaiba, your little brother is right behind you as you give this 'I need no one' speech. . . .

5) "It's time to accept my defeat like a man. As there's no one else I rely on, there's no one else I can blame."

6) Even when I don't like Kaiba, I still prefer him over Yami. See, I can really live with arrogance. It's self-righteousness that makes me want to strangle someone.

7) Though, it's not really Yami Yugi's fault. If he had his memories, I'm sure he could find a better way to tell Kaiba 'Look, stupid, I'm trying to be friendly here. Stop mouthing off and acting like my enemy.' But since he doesn't have his memories, he lacks the ability to understand and thus deal with Seto's almost-desperate quest to gain power. The reasons for it may have been perverted in his reincarnation, but the drive itself is still the same. Atemu would have remembered it. Yami Yugi can't be blamed because he doesn't. He's trying to win to get those memories back, after all.
It's a bit of a catch-22 when you think about it.

8 ) Ow. Poor Mokuba. Joey, don't go after the family members like that, even if they are the weak point. It's not cool.

9) I came to terms with the filler flashbacks, but please tell me this isn't a filler duel. I mean . . . crickey.

10) Wasn't Orgoth the Relentless a DDM monster?

11) And now there's filler flashbacks in the middle of the filler duel. That's just priceless.

12) "Even Marik quivered in fear when faced with Joey's skill." *snerk* Suuuure he did.

13) Where did Yami Marik go, anyway?

14) And absolutely no one notices when Téa up and walks off. Nice to know that all that interest and effort she pours into being friends with them is reciprocated.

15) Oh, never mind. Good boy, Devlin.

16) Kaiba's deck is a fascinating combination of technology and fairy tales. I wonder if that's supposed to say something about his personality, or if it's just for strategy reasons.

17) "You can't win a duel with luck, chump." Never doubt the power of luck, Kaiba. It favors fools and children.

18 ) I don't think losing Marik will have that big an impact on the world. He's just one teenager. Unless Ishizu and Odion decide to go on a murderous rampage if he dies, which . . . would be pretty entertaining, actually.

Last night I got a lovely girl IMing me, asking if I do comissions. What a plesant surprise, I must say.

As I talk with her, I ask what's her handle on DA, and she replies that she doesn't have one. Well then, how did she find me? Through DA. But how is that possible?

She tells me that there's this man on SomethingAwful.com who's appearing in the forums, selling prints of artists' work. Artists like , , and yours truly, among others. [link] [note: you can only access the thread if you have an account with SomethingAwful.com, which I do not]

Funny, but I don't remember giving my permission to have my art sold off. And I certainly haven't seen a dime of such profits. So this girl who brought this all to my attention was nice enough to IM the forum mod and get the thread deleted, and even offered to give me the man's IP address if I wanted to press charges.

Oh, I'm not angry. Shocked yes, but rather flattered that someone found my art appealing enough to try and make money off of.

1) Kaiba, Osiris has been killed and come back to life before. I doubt he's afraid of you and your "god" card that's named after a type of architecture.

2) I do like the fact that Atemu's god card is Osiris, especially considering the mythology and the fact that he's dueling the reincarnation of his cousin.

3) What, you ordered a chopper for Joey but not for Bakura? Favoritists!

4) I wouldn't want to play Kaiba. Everything's a sign of weakness.
5) . . . it's a totem pole. Are we gonna see Silva wandering around here soon?

6) I really hate these extreme close-up things.

7) With all the colored sparks that fly around these duel disks, I so would not put one on my arm.

8 ) Yami sounds really mad today.

9) I'm lost again. Who's winning? Is anyone winning?

10) Never mind, the Kuribohs have been brought out. Kaiba's gonna lose. Eventually.

11) Look, Yami Marik, you're a narrating villain in a wall. Shuddup already.

12) Someone is cheating here, but I can't figure out who. They both sound like they're making things up as they go.

13) The pharaoh is resorting to necromancy. Kuru Eruna is catching up with you~. . . .

14) "Yugi. I never thought you'd take such a cheap shot at my Egyptian god card." What, you want the guy to apologize for trying to win?

15) Oy. This is like the uber-Mexican standoff. One of you, just lose already! I don't care who!

16) Hey, Grampa Mutou's in the audience.

17) The magic box! I miss the magic box. The box was cool.

18 ) Winning a duel because you threatened suicide and it caused your opponent to have a temporary mental schism = not so grand, Kaiba. Plus, he is the one who managed to defeat Pegasus. It's not that big a deal--you couldn't get out of the control of your father's Item in the past, either, until Kisara lent you a hand.

19) Kaiba and Yami's versions of dueling look very aerobic. They should get together and design an exercise program.

20) For the love of all that's holy, IT'S A GAME. If you want to build yourself an eternal reputation, maybe you should be looking to your company instead. Few people remember the names of former chess masters. Most people have an idea of who Rockefeller was.

21) No, Yami, don't seek guidence from Joey! Seek the heart of the cards! How dare you forget that!?

22) And the disks are glowing again. . . .

23) It's Zork!

24) Exploding televisions screens in the middle of downtown--that's gonna create a lot of lawsuits. KaibaCorp is going to be so near bankruptcy after this tournament is over.

25)Oh, THAT'S not ominous.

26) Today's theme is: see-saw duels do not make for interesting episodes.

1) That Coffin Seller is a pretty card.

2) Those dark energy strings make Yami Marik and Joey look like they're wearing giant glow-in-the-dark necklaces.

3) "I've devised a fool-proof plan to lower your life points without doing anything!" How lazy.

4) I'm picking up a theme in Yami Marik's deck. . . .

5) Who the heck thought up this 'Extreme Close-up' rubbish? The parallels with Pokémon are getting smothering.

6) I wonder if the Shadow Realm can corrode metal as well as souls. Hope Kaiba had the Alcatraz tower covered with rust-repellant.

7) I just can't take Yami Marik seriously. It's the hair. He's not enough of a villain to pull off the hair.

8 ) *snerk!* Aw, Yami Marik looks so cute when he's surprised!

9) I like Joey. He's got guts. He's a cocky idiot, but he's got guts.

10) The more the characters prattle about saving the world, the more I suspect that the WB is trying to end the dub series with the end of Battle City. Granted, this is still the swell point of the fad, but the censors are going to be cutting their throats if they try to translate the DOOM arcs with all the soul-stealing and the insanely androgynous villains or the AE arc with the grave desecrations and flasher!Thief King Bakura (someone really needs to tell that guy the when you're wearing a skirt you do NOT stand like that, especially in an era that doesn't have underwear) and The Ultimate Evil Whose Name Is Zork. Either way, the WB can't win.

11) How can Joey be touching those bars? If it's as hot as he's saying, he oughta be screaming at having the skin of his palms burned off.

12) So . . . much . . . reused footage. . . .

13) All roads lead to Rome!

14) Heh. Love Yami Yugi's o.o expression.

15) . . . okay, perhaps I will take back what I said about Yami Marik.

16) "This is exactly the card I need to finish this fool off." Didn't you say that in the last episode?

17) Gilford the Lightning doesn't sound happy to be on the battlefield.

18 ) The second episode is drawn better. Well, the faces are. The proportions are still off.

19) How many damn face down cards does Yami Marik have!?

20) Oooh, the bit with that mirror card was cool.

21) Between those veins on his cheek and the eyeliner, Yami Marik looks a little like Naruto when drawn in the distance.

22) "She hasn't said a word for days"? Eh? How long was Battle City supposed to take, again? Besides, Mai might've woken up feeling quite chatty while you all were running around with Noah, seen that there was no one around, and decided that she was better off sleeping some more. You never know.

23) Much as I'm convinced that the AE arc is being written under the influence of some heavy designer drugs, I have to give the anime credit for fleshing out the relationships and situations that Takahashi-sensei never really dealt with in the manga.

24) Ishizu is drawn really well.

25) "I'm moments away from claiming my victory! The phoenix rises tonight!" Drop the theatrics, Yami Marik. Melodrama impresses no one.

26) And today's theme is: God of Ra -- the ultimate can of whoop ass.

Pick five to ten of your fics' titles, and say why you called them that.

Monk
My first fanfic. I based the plot off this old movie about a gay catholic priest. The movie's name? 'Priest'.

Baby Mine
One of my most popular Tas/Chi fics to date. From the song of the same name. I wanted to bring the fic's main focus to the fore from the get go. Mpregs are so hard to sell, even to yaoi fans.

Ashes Fade Away
Got this from the song listing on the 'Eternal' Ayashi no Ceres OST. 'Ashes Faded Away.

Blood of My Blood
I wanted to make a connection both to the relationship between Inuyasha and his brother, but also to the level of violence that would take place. Double meaning.

Chaotic Angel: Blue Version
The ending on this [as of yet] unfinished collaboration deals with a prophecy that comes to pass. It's hard to translate a human version of Sonic going Super by use of the Emeralds. The Blue part is because I'm writing Sonic's half of the story. My collaborator was doing Red, Knuckles' version.

One Step
I was grasping for a title on this one, and just happened to be listening to Linkin Park's 'One Step Closer'. It stuck.

Nedjem Bit
As I was writing the first couple of chapters of this, I realized just how many times I kept reffering to Kasiya's eyes as 'heated pools of spiced honey'. So I looked up the Egyptian word for honey, and then decided that it needed a good adjective to balance it out.

Job hunting is disheartening, and because of my lack of success thus far, the computer has been passworded to restrict my creative flow.

So I've created an outlet, but I need some volunteers.
Already I've notified my nearest and dearest, but about half of them haven't as of yet responded back. So I'm turning to any interested party.

I love writing, and I love drawing. What better way to handle both mediums at once than to write letters to friends.
Plus it gives me the excuse to doodle on the envelopes and visit Print Club booths for photos.

Now for some good news...

I've been named Artist of the Month in the club. And I haven't been able to submit anything really in nearly two months!
Talk about an ego boost.

So I'm working on coloring lineart that I have laying around. But it's hard on my poor poor wrist since I'm stuck using a mouse for the moment.

Keep an eye out for more ficcage, though.

1. Her face was a perfect oval, like a circle that had its two sides gently compressed by a Thigh Master.

2. His thoughts tumbled in his head, making and breaking alliances like underpants in a dryer without Cling Free.

3. He spoke with the wisdom that can only come from experience, like a guy who went blind because he looked at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it and now goes around the country speaking at high schools about the dangers of looking at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it.

4. She grew on him like she was a colony of E. Coli and he was room-temperature Canadian beef.
5. She had a deep, throaty, genuine laugh, like that sound a dog makes just before it throws up.

7. He was as tall as a 6'3" tree.
8. The revelation that his marriage of 30 years had disintegrated because of his wife's infidelity came as a rude shock, like a surcharge at a formerly surcharge-free ATM.

9. The little boat gently drifted across the pond exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn't.

10. McBride fell 12 stories, hitting the pavement like a Hefty bag filled with vegetable soup.

11. From the attic came an unearthly howl. The whole scene had an eerie, surreal quality, like when you're on vacation in another city and Jeopardy comes on at 7:00 p.m. instead of 7:30.

12. Her hair glistened in the rain like a nose hair after a sneeze.

13. The hailstones leaped from the pavement, just like maggots when you fry them in hot grease.

14. Long separated by cruel fate, the star-crossed lovers raced across the grassy field toward each other like two freight trains, one having left Cleveland at 6:36 p.m. traveling at 55 mph, the other from Topeka at 4:19 p.m. at a speed of 35 mph.

15. They lived in a typical suburban neighborhood with picket fences that resembled Nancy Kerrigan's teeth.
16. John and Mary had never met. They were like two hummingbirds who had also never met.
17. He fell for her like his heart was a mob informant and she was the East River.
23. The ballerina rose gracefully en pointe and extended one slender leg behind her, like a dog at a fire hydrant.
24. It was an American tradition, like fathers chasing kids around with power tools.
25. He was deeply in love. When she spoke, he thought he heard bells, as if she were a garbage truck backing up.
