Since I had a bit of cash to burn anyway, I ended up buying a Windows phone -- a Mozart, to be precise -- on a whim.<br /><br />To be honest, up against its main competitors of Android and iOS, WP7's user experience is hands-down the best out of all of the big three [1], and by a pretty safe margin in my opinion. Listening to Megadeth inspired me to pick up the bass and guitar. There are a few things that have changed over the past year or so on the desktop OS battlefield, but here's the main things I've noticed about the 'major' OSes that have changed over the last year.<br /><br />Microsoft pulled their head out and cranked out a fantastic OS that works very well. It made the previous design they had look paltry imo, and I'm quite proud of the work I've done with it, given the guidelines I had to work between. So many personal portfolio sites have ambitions that overshoot their real value and mine was quickly becoming one of them.<br /><br />So, today, I started from scratch once again, feeling fresh and inspired, knocked out the mockup and content, and made it live in a single day.         <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ Having access to CMSes (is that grammatically correct?) has totally altered my dynamic of designing web sites and immediately makes most of my previous work inferior on a technical level compared to what I could be capable of accomplishing now.<br /><br />Because of this, I think it's time to have a sit down and assess what this could mean for the future. As of now I'm not satisfied with the look of my portfolio and I'll probably end up redesigning it for version 3.0 this year.         <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ My decision last year to work with only free and/or open source software has been a little bit difficult to uphold sometimes, but usually I've been able to pull through.<br /><br />However, one big exception is with 3D artwork; without 3DS Max or Cinema 4D to use, I am left with Blender. Blender is great and I've seen it put out some truly professional-quality material, but its interface is so utterly confusing to me that I don't know where to begin. C4D's interface was so logical and intuitive, and while I've heard Blender is up there too, it only is once you've gotten used to it.
