Journal Features Permission Update

I, inadvertently, started a whole debate here on DA regarding said features *looks innocent* hahaha Check out ^kkart journal regarding this issue, found here: [link] *read comments, they're priceless*

I asked, of ^kkart, if he didn't mind my featuring his work without asking permission in advance as I know he's such a busy man here on DA. He noted me back, rather quickly I might add, telling me that it was perfectly okay to feature him. He also noted back with some interesting insight that I so desperately needed, but never wanted to ask.

I find that, though courteous on my part, asking for permission to use images in a feature ON DA is not necessary. The thumb numbers are there for a reason and though they could contact admin about it; they'd sooner laugh at the thought than take it as a serious matter of copyright/art theft issues simply for featuring an image without permission. I assumed this was always the case, but I felt admin. probably had bigger fish to fry than this little issue, and I left it at that. I started asking for permission to use images - with no other person ever saying no, ever accusing me of anything more than trying to promote their work out of appreciation for their creativity and talent.

Maybe some have noticed, but I have done far less featuring and far less news articles since then. It takes me forever to ask everyone I wish to feature, and days to weeks just to get responses back telling me that it's okay that I feature those images. I';m too lazy for this crap And with that...back to the old ways. I feature, I send you the link telling you I've featured, and you either like it or don't. And my official answer to you're NOT liking a feature? Sucks to be you, doesn't it? LMAO

And with that --- a feature of images I have NOT gotten permission to use for this feature. Hope none of them get mad

As you may have noticed, I got new images up the past few days. On our day off, Corey and I decided to go to the Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens. We haven't been there in awhile, and I haven't ever used my XSi there and I wanted the chance, since some of the animals you can get incredibly close to. I like this idea

I hadn't even had an image up for 20 hours and it'd been viewed at least 50 times...think that's the quickest I've gotten 50 views on any image hahaha. Ocelot, if you're wondering which image it was.

Not for me, for my friend and his wife. He has been in the hospital three times in the past 12 months. Last time the splints in his heart let go, along with the one going to one of his kidneys. I found out Monday he is back in the hospital with lack of feeling in his legs and arms. I find out Wednesday he has a kidney infection. I haven't been able to get a hold of his wife, and his co-workers don't know which hospital he is at. I just found out 30 minutes ago he is in a medically-induced coma diagnosed with Gillian-Barre Syndrome. He is in Special ICU. His wife can't work and he is two years from retirement.

If you have a specific Diety you send prayers/wishes to, can you do that for them please?

Time For Shameless Self-Promotion

So, I spend a great deal of time finding new images to feature in my journal features (which will appear at the end of this very journal haha), and I think it's about time I take the time to pimp my own favorite work to everyone.

I suggested 2 images to =SuggestDD today and they've added those images to the list of those that they want to suggest fro DD some time. I will reveal which images I suggested if anyone's curious. I also took the time to suggest one of my own, and I don't care if someone accuses me of being self-centered...like I said, spend an awful lot of time, and happy to do it, spreading the promotions for other people and I don't think it'll kill anyone to suffer through this journal hahaha

So, my favorite deviations from MY gallery:

SuggestDD is a group of several members who simply ask that you suggest DDs to them. It makes it far easier if you're, like me, one of those people who may not be able to get technical when describing why an image is truly worthy of a DD. You simply note them with a thumb to the image, the artist who submitted that piece of work, and why you think it deserves recognition (if you want, otherwise someone on =SuggestDD will do that step for you).

Seems the poll answers are fairly decisive - you either think 3 months is perfect for a large last time feature of past images...or you simply have no opinion and just love to see what I manage to come up with for features. With that, I'll keep it to a large feature with all of the images over a 3 month period, getting one last feature before moving on the the next sets.

30,000PVs are here! I checked my inbox for notes or comments regarding the capture of my 30k PV to find that 3 loyal watchers of mine had sent me messages admitting to trying to capture the moment. Only one managed it dead-on but for the efforts of all 3, I shall reward them all with a nice journal feature.

Candice's Self Promotion Journal

Hello all! Some of you know me from real life, some just from the year I've been on DA, and some of you do not know me at all. My name is Candice and I am 23 years old. I've lived in Texas, Kansas, Ohio and Florida --- most of my life having been spent between Tx and Fla. I lived in Texas, in a small town on a family run farm, for the first 10 years of my life. To escape a rather unsafe home; my mother gathered myself and younger brother and moved us to Florida in 1996. Until I moved out on my own last year, I'd lived with my: grandparents, mom, brother, aunt, 2 cousins, 10 cats and 2 dogs (yea, a lot I know). I now live in an apartment with my boyfriend of 2 years, ~PhotonPhreak, and our 2 cats

I'd say I got into art and expression because of my rough past. It helped me see things clearly, helped me express things that I may have had a harder time trying to express outright. I originally used poetry and painting for this purpose, but after high school I gave up on it. Life caught up with me and earning a living and taking care of my household took precedence. I picked up photography because, though I still needed to spend most of my time sacrificing for the greater good of my household, I needed SOMETHING that was just for me. I needed something that relieved some stress. After suffering with depression for most of my teenage years, I realized that I didn't need to run myself back into that hole. Photography - and any other outlet I found - saved me from myself, so to speak.

As for inspiration - What inspires me may not be as positive as most, but it comes from simply not wanting to be in the place, mentally, that I was when I was younger. I can always find something worth taking a photo of, if simply holding my camera saves me from my own mind and the negativity that creeps in from time to time. As I said, it's a great stress reliever for me. It helps that animals are also a passion, having grown up on a farm. I have all of these animals, both domestic and wild around me--- and sometimes zoo inhabitants, that peak my interest. I spend a great deal of time trying to get great shots of animals.

And the future? I may not be seeking a professional photography career, but I've got plans I hope that I can manage. I've always wanted to work with animals - I detoured when I first went into college, trying my hand at a degree in Criminal Justice, but I couldn't see myself being happy with that for the rest of my life. I'm hoping to go back to school in the next year or 2, get a certification to work as a vet tech, and then possibly put myself through vet. medicine. Photography will most likely always be an expensive, but highly rewarding hobby and stress reliever though.

Hopefully that helps you understand me a bit better --- and I hope some of you take this challenge and make your own self promotion journal for everyone to read.

2 year anniversary

As some of you know, life hasn't gone quite as planned the past few months. (I won't go into it if you don't know though, so don't ask). Anyway,

I have neglected to plan anything as of late, because nothing seems to go as planned. I hate being that way, it doesn't allow any optimism, any hope, but I've begun to lose some of that with each thing that goes wrong. As I told Corey last night, I guess even asking that ONE thing go right is too much to ask.

As for what I'm referring to this time. It's not so much what happened this time, as it's just a combo of everything that's happened. Last night was my final straw, I got mad because of all the things I haven't planned that I might have before, my anniversary was the only thing I tried to plan something for. I made sure not to spend money unwisely, so that I WOULD have some extra money come our anniversary in case I wanted to do something. I made a reservation at an event for tonight, was told that the only thing that the other party might cancel for is poor weather, as it was an outdoor event (a nightime boardwalk outing at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary). Perfect weather for tonight, yet they STILL cancelled on me with only one day to prepare something else for us to do tonight. It couldn't be done.

So, the only thing I HAVE been looking forward too, gets ruined like everything else as of late. Why am I so surprised, right?

The only thing that is going right is that we made it this long haha that I haven't killed him yet That's my positive note right now. He bought me a card that reflects just how pathetic we've been lately haha. But the card was hilarious.

It reads (on front) "It's out anniversary, and it's perfectly OKAY for is to do EXACTLY what we WANT to do!" (inside picture = couple + dog on couch --- man is snoring with paper in lap, dog between them, and woman reading book, eating sandwich, with curlers in her hair)

(inside words) Pathetic, but perfectly okay!"

His note to me" We may not always get to do what we want to do, but we still have each other and that's the most important part. I love You, Corey"

As for what we'll do instead? I've decided I don't want to sit home sulking about this, called my grandmother instead. Since my reservation cancelled, I now have $36 I wasn't supposed to have. I told her I'd go with her to buy BBQ fixings if she'd do some grilling for dinner...our compromise. She can't afford to buy it, and I don't know how nor have the equipment to do grilling myself hahaha

First of all, from a purely numerical perspective, Dam has only been on dA for about a year, but she already has more than seven million and fifty thousand views. That's almost twenty thousand views every single day. Some people have attributed this to the fact that she does Naruto, but I disagree: it's her dedication. Unlike most popular Naruto fanartists, Dam sticks with it. She's done more than three hundred pages of Naruto doujin alone. The commitment and motivation it takes to stick with projects of such longevity is more than indescribable, it's unfathomable.

So, on top of everything else going on (most of which my DA friends know nothing about), started to head out to work this morning and in the middle of a turn onto a county road --- which was getting busy since rush hour was upon us --- the car DIES! (yes, in the turn!) We had to let it roll to a stop, thank God to a turn lane, and then push it to the intersecting street to get it off the roadway.

It was 6:40am

I had to call my grandmother and ask her if she could please get up from her sleep, drive out of her way 20 min. to the North...travel back south to drop me off at work, and then take my boyfriend back to the north to take him back to our house. She did this, out of love and necessity for my job security, thank you grandma!!!!

Still ahve no idea what the malfunction was our truck was having, but by the time he got back out to it and was trying to call for a tow, the car started like nothing ever happened. He took it out to his friend's shop and neither of them have any idea what went wrong. Basically, we have to wait and see if it happens again...or if it just completely dies for good on us, THEN we'll know for sure hahahaha. All *I* know is that we can't afford this crap, on top of everything else, right now.

Hate Being Sick (Updated)

Wow, this just really sucks. I was perfectly healthy until yesterday after work and then wham!

Started with my throat feeling a bit dry. Went to bed knowing that I was coming down with something 'cause it'd gotten a bit worse, but still holding out hope that I was wrong. I hate being right...

Woke up at 4am and haven't been back to bed since. My throat is red on one side and burning from the back of the sinuses and down each side of the throat (moreso on the left though). I think I see small white dots appearing too, and drainage. I've got a sinus infection already (this started not even 12 hours ago and I already have an infection).

Update:
Went to the doctor around noon yesterday because the sinus infection was worrying me. Every time I end up with an infection, I end up with pnuemonia within a few days. I didn't want to risk it this time, though I'm in a bind and knew I'd be paying out of pocket, and I was right. He doesn't think it's strep, but I def. had a good sinus infection going by the time I got in. The fever had just started at that point, was lingering at 99.5, mostly...yea, it's not that high for you...for someone who runs almost a whole degree lower than normal people, over 99 is starting a decent fever haha.

Now I'm sitting at just over 100 degrees and climbing. I'm also sitting on 24 hours without sleep, and it doesn't look like I'll be getting to bed any time soon, if at all. Even breathing, the air moving over the raw spots in my throat, make my throat burn even more. I feel like someone's got a rusty razor blade and a hot poker on it...ugh. My head is pounding and the whole left side of my face is feeling the sinus pressure, it feels like someone is sitting on my jaw. Gotta resist the each to move my jaw in a manner that would promote popping it, as it may feel better temp. but it's suck in the long run, and it might cause lock jaw. Just sucks 'cause the popping was releasing the pressure on my face...ugh again...

I have one more day of not being at work, hopefully this will be better by then. I just pray I get some sleep in the meantime.

I can't afford to be sick right now...

(one of the few artists I watch that does several types of art, so I'll feature several here)

I've already rescheduled this appointment twice. I went in last week only to find that I'd be paying a significant amount MORE than I thought in office and had forgotten my check book. I rescheduled for today, after being quoted "at most" $330 out of pocket. I left the office, went straight to my bank and transferred from my savings to checking so that I had at least $400 in my account at the time of the visit today.

I was then informed, after waiting a half hour in their VERY uncomfortable chairs, for which I may need to see a chiropractor for - that my deductible is still $500 9which I knew) and that my total could be anywhere from no less than $250 to $500 (the rest being billed to my insurance for meeting my deductible). How'd we go from grand total of $330 to well over $500 in only one week, which I informed her of the quote she'd given me only one week ago (because I believe this to be the same receptionist).

She tells me that for the Dr. to simply take an X-ray already hits $300...that doesn't include whichever method he chooses to use to treat the cyst and it doesn't include any pain medications he may give me in the event that it's bothersome to me. Well, you know what...if you'd told me that before, I wouldn't have bothered wasting a trip to see your ugly mug again. (I didn't say it, but I dearly wanted to).

So, I still have this unsightly bulge of a cyst on my left wrist and it'll stay there. I don't care...

Everyone remember my mention of going to a dermatologist for one reason and walking out with one less mole? Well, I'm now going to go see a hand surgeon TODAY for the reason for my initial visit. (not sure if I mentioned the initial reason though, so here goes)

I have a fairly unattractive cyst, growing beneath the skin of the underside of my left wrist. It's been there for several years, I let it go because I knew what it was and it wasn't painful or all that noticeable, until now. I smacked it good with something at work a few months back and it's gotten bigger and sends the occasional pain through my wrist now. Looking into what causes these and exactly what treatment includes - I figure I'll write this out just in case I have little function of my left hand for the next few days (to week). so no one wonders where I've gone.

I guess these are caused by a "leak" in the joint that allows fluid out, but keeps it from going back, 'causing it to form a sac of gel under your skin. I don't know what would make them decide between one treatment or another, but I do know the 2 ways they could go about handling it. They could treat one of two ways --- numb and drain it...or...surgically remove it as an outpatient proc. Both will cause discomfort but only one will keep be less active for weeks on end.

Corey made me take before pictures, so just to show you the difference, I may put the before and after shot up once it's healed.

I'm trying this new thing with my journals, a section "Images that Caught My Eye". so here's the deal with this new idea of mine.
I want to run all of the images that "catch my eye" at the bottom (or top) of all journal entries that I write for the rest of this month - whilst looking for what I might want to run next month....and the next and next. If this runs as well as I hope - you'll be seeing these small features with every journal from now on, regardless the topic of the journal entry.

I have not set a limit to how many I will run each month - so far it just seems to be what I run across and wish to feature. I started placing them on one journal already, but since I did them as an update to an old journal...maybe only the artist' featured would have seen them. With that said, this journal entry is to show you the ones I am running now, minus the ones that I have yet to get response back from the artist on -those will be added at a later date then. Happy Birthday to Me (part II)

So, Corey ~PhotonPhreak and I woke up at 5:30am to get a start on my birthday. We ran around town for last minute things before hitting the highway, bound for Miami. A fun-filled day at the zoo awaiting us...

We got to the zoo right after the gates opened, met up with Koni =sametimenxtyr in the parking lot and we all walked in together. I'm SO glad she was able to come along I knew we'd have fun, and I just knew I'd enjoy her company - and, I was right. For those of you who know her, or have done a devmeet with her before, you know why I say this.

Corey and I got to experience a new section of the zoo with her. It was being constructed when we were last there in November. It's an Amazon exhibit, and it was truly worth the wait for us to see it. I wish it'd been done when we were last there, but I knew we'd be back We all sat down to lunch about mid-way through and watched the little kids play in the fountains --- kids are so cute, but we were SO waiting on one of them to catch a shot of water right up the nose haha, it didn't happen while we were there, but I bet it happened at some point Koni left us after that, prior plans, but it was surely fun while it lasted. ***Thanks for meeting with us, Koni. It was fun

Corey and I continued the walking though. Saw several other things we hadn't gotten a chance to see the last time we were there --- and things that weren't even THERE the last time that we were. We both got plenty of pics, and once we've gone through and weeded out the good from the bad --- we'll start putting some of them up here for everyone to see. can't wait to share them with you
