I can't believe the last time I logged in was March! Apologies to you all for having waited so long for replies to notes and submissions. As I said in our last news update, even if I'm not around for a while, I won't forget you. Please keep sending your submissions our way. Thank you to the loyal members who continue to submit their fanart, even when the club has appeared inactive for many months. It is because of YOUR dedication and contributions that our club continues to grow. I am currently working through all the notes and submissions, so it won't be long before you see your work in our gallery. Thanks again!

I have closed the 'Scifi-Fanatics' website ... my busy life as mum to eight just does not afford me the time to maintain so many projects at once. You can still submit your scifi related deviantART forum threads, as always. This is a great way to preserve them for prosperity and to have current and new members contribute to your discussion. You can also join our Scifi-Fanatics distributed computing BOINC teams at SETI, Einstein, QMC, and LHC. You can read more about joining here. Depending on how popular the team becomes, I may setup a page on my personal website in which to host your personal BOINC signatures.

Lastly, Happy Holidays to all the crew members and families of the Scifi-Fans club, and Best Wishes for the coming New Year. See you all again in 2008!

Sincerest apologies to you all, the loyal members of ~Scifi-Fans, for what seemed to be be ZERO activity in the club, and ZERO processing of notes over the recent months - Ive been one busy busy Mummy!

In all fact, we have actually had quite a number of art submissions from members waiting in the notes for me to log in, and a number of requests to join the club also. So if you've been wondering whether you were ever going to get a response to your submission or join request ... be assured that all notes will be processed and replied to within the next 36 hours.

Thank you so much for your support of this club and PLEASE keep your submissions coming - though I may often be snowed under with multiple projects and parenting responsibilities, be confident that I've not forgotten about you and will always drop in eventually to keep the club active. Again. sorry for the delays.

Targeted for release in September 2005, A Scanner Darkly was finally released in July 2006 and is now showing at a cinema near you. This movie is a massive undertaking of rotoscope animation, requiring 500 hours of work for each minute created. Based on the Philip K Dick novel of the same name, A Scanner Darkly boasts an all star cast including Keanu Reeves, Robert Downey Jr, Winona Rider, and Woody Harrelson. It appears science fiction was not very popular at the 58th annual Emmy Awards, with previous winners, the ABC hit series Lost, failing to garner a nomination this year. Meanwhile, miniseries The Triangle, starring Eric Stoltz, Lou Diamond Phillips, and Australia's Sam Neill, managed to pick up an award for outstanding special visual effects for a miniseries, movie or special.

Did you ever want to be a part of Captain Kirk's crew? Here is your chance, well ... almost. William Shatner has launched a new Science Fiction DVD Club, and he wants you to be his spokesperson. Ok, all you need to do is create a video, 90 seconds or less, showing how wild you are about Scifi, and submit it for judging here by September 30th. You could become one of 15 finalists in the running for US$1000, a feature spot on ShatnerDVDclub, and a place in Kirky's heart - alright, that last one I made up.

Talking Star Trek, I happened upon this little goody not so long ago, and thought I better share it with the club, in case anyone has missed it. There's some sweet info for all those fans of Tuvok, and be sure to check out the sound clips from one of Tim's many albums on offer.

As we eagerly await the release of Superman Returns to the big screen, apparently the film's movie executives have to make a few digital adjustments to 26 year old Brandon Routh's profile as they believe he has ummm ... assets that may be considered rather distracting, even after being fitted with a special codpiece. SCIFI-FANS CLUB RULES

The administrator of the Scifi-Fans Community reserves the right to modify the clubs rules, or make additions, at her discretion.

1. Comments and Favs on artwork submitted to the Scifi-Fans community are to be made on the original artwork at the artist's gallery. A link to the original artwork will be included in the description for each piece.
2. Do not make requests to join the Scifi-Fans community on the front page, or by commenting on the journal ... These requests will be ignored. Please refer to the Joining Guidelines for more information on how to become a member.
3. Do not make derogatory remarks about Members, the Scifi Entertainment genre, or Scifi movies and TV Shows that are liked by others. If you loathe a particular movie or TV show that is loved by another member, you will just have to bite your tounge. This club is for those Scifi-fans who have no other club in which to express their appreciation of a particular film or TV show. If you dont like the Scifi genre at all ... then what are you doing here anyway?
4. The adminstrator has the final word on rules, memberships, affiliations, submissions, and competition winners.
5. Follow the submission rules and policies of Deviant Art.


SCIFI-FANS COMMUNITY FAQ

SCIFI-FANS FAQ1: Why wont the Scifi-Fans community Favourite my fanart deviations?
It is considered an abuse or exploit of the favourites system for communities to favourite the work of their members.

SCIFI-FANS FAQ2: Can I favourite a deviation in the Scifi-fans Gallery?
This is a big no no. The creative artist should receive the credit for their work, not the community. If you wish to favourite a submission, please do so at the personal gallery of the artist. A link to the artist's personal page, and the original deviation, is included in the description for each piece submitted to the Scifi-fans Community.

SCIFI-FANS FAQ3: Why can't I comment on deviations in the Scifi-Fans Gallery?

SCIFI-FANS FORUM THREAD GUIDELINES

Since Scifi-Fans is currently unable to subscribe to DA, we do not have a private members forum. However, if you start a thread on the public DA forum which pertains to Scifi culture, we will list that forum thread in the Scifi-Fans Public Forum Threads. Even if it disappears off the Public DA Forum boards, it will always be available for members to access and make comments, via the community. Please be sure to start your thread in the correct section of the DA Forums to ensure that it is not closed by a moderator. For example ... If you want to discuss a particular Scifi movie, create your thread in the Movies Section ... if you want to discuss conceptual designs for new original aliens or gadgets, place your thread in the Art Scene section, and so on. The Scifi-Fans Public Forum Threads listing is one of the only areas of the club which is not restricted to Scifi Movies and TV shows - your thread can discuss scifi books, games, concept art, real science, etc.

Once you have started your forum thread be sure to let us know as soon as possible, or it may disappear from the public forum boards before you give the link to us. send a Note to the Scifi-Fans club with the words 'Forum Thread' in the subject line. In the message body include the title and link to your thread.

To find the link to your forum thread either right click on its title in the list on the board and select 'copy shortcut', or enter your thread and copy the link from the address bar of your internet browser.

Submissions for Forum Threads will be checked by the club adminstrator for relevance to Science Fiction, and valid threads will be added to our list of Scifi-Fans Public Forum Threads so that it will remain available for future comments, long after it has disappeared from the Public DA Forum boards.

Forum threads can only be submitted by their creator and this service is only available to members of the Scifi-Fans community.

It helps to be a fan of Science Fiction Movies & TV Shows, but you are not required to have any sci-fi movie or TV show fanart in your gallery. However, If you do have Sci-Fi Movie or TV Show fanart in your gallery, we would love to see it - read the Submission Guidelines for more information.

There are three things we would like you to do if you want to become a member of the DA Scifi-Fans Club ... If you make a request to join Scifi-Fans in the journal comments, or on the club's front page, it will be ignored.

1. You need to Send a Note to the club with the word 'Join' in the subject line.
2. It is recommended that you Watch the club journal for updates.
3. Please include the Scifi-Fans avatar or link in your journal, or link to the club in your signature. To include the club avatar in your journal entries, just type :iconScifi-Fans: To include a link to us in your signature or journal type :devScifi-Fans:

When the Scifi-Fans Community administrator has approved your application to Join, you will receive a note from the club saying you have been accepted as a member, and your avatar will be added to the Official Member List.

All deviations submitted to the ~Scifi-Fans community must follow guidelines of the DA submissions policy. In particular please refer to FAQ #572: What does deviantART consider "Fan Art" to be?.

All submissions of artwork to the Scifi-Fans community must be Science Fiction Movie or TV Show Fanart ... unless we hold a competition which specifies otherwise. This means that we do not accept submissions of conceptual scifi art to our club gallery (for example ... creatures, gadgets, environments etc. which you have personally invented). As much as we love them, there are already DA clubs which cater to original conceptual artists.

We do not accept fanart from Sci-fi literature which has not already been made into a film or TV program. Art of this type begins to cross over into conceptual art, where you have to use your imagination to portray the creature/scene/gadget from a book. Also, If that book is eventually turned into a movie, then your imagined representation, may not be anything like what we see on the screen.

We will not accept Fanart of monsters/creatures from the Horror or Fantasy entertainment genres, unless the Movie or TV Show you wish to celebrate includes elements of scientific hypotheses in the creation of that creature. For example ... a fanart illustration of a Vampire being slain by Buffy is not acceptable, while a fanart drawing of Frankenstein with Van Helsing is. If your submission is along these lines, it will also help if those scientific elements are represented in your deviation.

We do not accept video screenshot captures into our gallery.

Currently, Scifi-Fans does not accept Fanart from Scifi computer games, unless those games are already Movies or TV shows. I may consider including Fanart from Scifi Computer Games in the future, if enough members are interested, and can provide me with some rational reasons for doing so.

Submissions of Fanart literature based on a specific Scifi Movie and TV Show are acceptable. This means, your scripts, short-stories, or poetry, must include characters and settings which embody the Movie or TV Show you wish to honour.

In the end, the final decision on what will be accepted into our community gallery as Scifi entertainment fanart, will be determined by the club administrator. In the event that your submission is not accepted, you will most likely be redirected to a club which is more appropriate for your deviation.

NOTE When submitting any Scifi Entertainment Fanart into your personal gallery, please use the 'Fanart' Category to avoid it being deleted by DA - therefore breaking any links we create to your deviations from our gallery.

If you wish to submit to scifi fans from your scraps gallery, that is perfectly acceptable. However, if you decide to move the deviation into your main gallery at a later date, please Send a Note to the club detailing the name of the deviation and the new link, so that the link to your original work from your scifi club submission can be changed. This is also true of deviations which you have decided to move from your main gallery to scraps.

How To Make a Submission:
To make a submission, please Send a Note to the club with the word 'Submission' in the subject line. In the message body include the title and a link to the artwork in your gallery, and the title of the Scfi Movie or TV Show which your fanart is celebrating. You can also include a description of your deviation. However, if you wish the description to be used which accompanies the original artwork in your gallery, then dont bother to include a description in your note.

To obtain the link to the deviation in your gallery that you wish to submit to the Scifi-Fans gallery, either right click on the deviation in your gallery and select 'Copy Shortcut', or view your deviation and copy the link from the address bar of your internet browser.

When the Scifi-Fans Community administrator has approved your deviation submission, you will receive a note from the club with a link to your newly submitted deviation in the Scifi-Fans gallery.

SCIFI-FANS AFFILIATION GUIDELINES

We prefer our affiliates to have a Science Fiction or Spacey theme - Either communities dedicated to Space art in it's own right, or Fanart communities devoted to one particular Science Fiction Movie or TV Series. If your sci-fi or spacey club would like to become an affiliate of Scifi-Fans, please Send a Note to the club - while logged into your club account - with the word 'Affiliate' in both the subject line and message body.

If your club does not have a sci-fi or space theme but you would still like to affiliate, please Send a Note to the Scifi-Fans club - while logged into your club account - with the word 'Affiliate' in the subject line. In the message body please include a short description of your club, and state the reasons why you would like to affiliate with the Scifi-Fans community.

All affiliates must display the Scifi-Fans link or avatar in the Affiliates Section of their community journal, and we will do the same for your club ... that's the whole point of affiliation, isn't it?
