Well, a LOT has happened since I last logged in... which apparently was in July... wow, that's embarrassing... and most recently since I finished college I've had some freelance work, but so far have had no luck getting a full-time job. I'd heard animation's a rough business to get into, and now I know why! I'm also in the process of setting up my own website at the moment.

I plan on starting online commissions in the near future (once I've uploaded some of my more recent work). Anyone interested in an animated icon?

Also I'm in a musical this week. The show's over 3 hours long, and we're doing 6 performances. It might take me a while to go through all those updates but I'll get there. Eventually. Maybe. We'll see.

Fortunately, my work from last year and my dissertation (which I did this year but got a very high mark for) pulled my grade up enough to get the one I wanted. I wasn't quite expecting to make it though, so I'm really surprised and happy now!

The past few weeks have been insane. We're doing an exhibition next week and have been preparing. So yeah, insanity. I've also started applying for animation jobs and whatnot.

I'm also in the process of creating my own website. When that's up and running I'm going to put my animations and comics on there, including my final for university. I'm also currently working on 2 non-profit collaborations; a flash game and a music video. They'll be going on the website too!

Anyhoo, I've finished all my university coursework FOR EVAH!! Also we had our exhibition at the college last Tuesday, and now all that's left is a second exhibition at London. Then the graduation ceremony at the end of September. And I'm pretty much done. I'm currently looking for animation jobs and whatnot, which much appreciated help from the college staff too. The past couple of months have been absolute chaos, as any of you fellow college kids can probably imagine.

So far this year's been chaotic. First, the bad stuff. In January my Nan died (after being in hospital for a very stressful few weeks). In February, days after the funeral, my dissertation for college was due in. Also, my grade for last semester was a couple of marks below my predicted grade, which wasn't good either. Still, hanging in there and things finally seem to be turning round...

Now onto the good stuff. All last week I performed in a musical with my drama group - "Calamity Jane", and it was really fun! Not only that, but we received great reviews and even though the show looked like it would be a disaster 2 weeks before things suddenly improved at the end. Also, since losing Nan, we've been inviting my Grandad round a few times a week and he's really doing well. I'm also planning my 21st at the moment, which is coming much too quickly! Oh well. XD Also, even though my last college project was a flop, the one I'm currently working on is going much better and I've received some really nice comments from friends, family and classmates. I'll upload it when it's finished, which will be in 8 weeks!

I'm currently in the process of putting together my professional portfolio too, which requires creating some new artwork because I just don't have enough to put in it yet, so hopefully that'll get me more active here again!

So yeah. THAT'S why I've hardly uploaded anything this year so far. It's been crazy.

Wow. Now I regret being away for like... a week. I somehow got caught up in some other things lately, plus I was ill all last week and haven't been on here for a few days. Which was a bad idea obviously, because I've got a whole lot of updates to get through now. Bear with me - I'm not ignoring anyone on purpose! *dives into big fat pile of updates*

Tomorrow's my last day at uni for this term though, then I'm home for the holidays... where I will still be doing coursework. It's the end of term, but not the end of the semester. That finishes in mid January, so our work isn't due in until then. Still, I've done the main parts of my project and just need to carry on filling in the sketchbook. Next semester I'll be making my final major animation, which I'll upload after my degree's finished and my work has been marked (I'm not taking any chances on having my work stolen before my course is over).

News...

'Tis show week. I'm performing in a pantomime this week and our first performance is tonight! I apologise in advance for my lack of activeness here that will possibly continue throughout the rest of this week.

And it's just occurred to me that depending on where in the world you are from you may not know what a pantomime is. Basically it's a stage show that involves the cast interacting with the audience. For example, there's often a scene that involves some of the cast singing a song, and then a monster of some sort comes out from behind them and scares them away one by one, and the audience are expected to shout out, "IT'S BEHIND YOU!!" and of course the cast never listen. Oh, and everyone has to overreact to everything; it's like being in a cartoon show on stage! Haha, pantomimes are kind of a Christmas tradition here in the UK.

The show is Puss In Boots. It's the first time our drama group's performed this show, so it's something new for everyone. We've been out rehearsing all week and by the end of last night's rehearsal everyone was so insane and full of adrenaline. It was awesome.

Rehearsals haven't been perfect and there have been quite a lot of mistakes, but it's been really enjoyable so far and we're looking forward to performing nonetheless. I really have no idea how good or bad our first performance is going to be but one thing I'm sure of is that it's gonna be fun fun fun!!

Yeah, I'm still hyper from yesterday. I apologise for that too.

News...

So now I'm in my 3rd and final year. And it's gonna be CRAZY.

Basically throughout the year we just work on one project each. I'm going to do a 2D cartoon animation with digital characters animated frame-by-frame on Flash, with traditional backgrounds (either coloured pencil or watercolour paints).

We also have to do a storyboard, animatic and 8000 word dissertation.

I really want to put everything into this project so I'm going to try and be sensible with my time management.

And also I'm still finishing that summer animation project I've been doing too, on top of everything else.

Still, even though it's gonna be a stressful year, I think it'll be a lot of fun and a great experience! My timetable's a bit weird this semester, but not as bad as I thought it was going to be at first, and once we've all settled down it'll probably be fine. And our only teacher who really knew what he was doing left during the summer, and the new teacher doesn't begin for another month. So it should be an interesting year!!

News...

I'm going on holiday tomorrow and won't be online next week. Haha, I dread to think how many updates will pile up in that amount of time, especially considering I watch quite a lot more people now. (unlike last year, when I went on holiday like, a month after I joined)

I've been busy with a group animation project in RL which is pretty exciting, but for legal reasons I'm not allowed to upload anything I've done towards this project so far. When it's finished though (hopefully in about 7 or 8 weeks) it'll probably go up on the Internet somewhere, and if it does I'll post a link to it here.

OH YEAH. Something funny happened today. I answered the phone to some number that came up as "not available" on the caller ID, and the person on the other end asked me "is a grown-up available?" I didn't bother mentioning my age or anything, I just suggested they called back later. They did, and we ignored it, since it had turned out to be one of those survey companies that get you to answer questions then tell you you've won something. But that's my funny story for the day. Apparently my voice makes me sound like a little kid.

Anyhoo, now I'm rambling, and I've still got a bit of packing to do. So... I'll be back next week on Sunday.

First off though, quick update. The last term of the year has started, and all my projects are due in at the end of May. So far I've done all the voice overs for the Tortoise And The Hare animation, along with most of the background music. I've animated about one page worth of storyboard, which contains about 20 seconds of lip sync, so really it's coming along fairly smoothly for now! *whew* So basically, that along with my other animation work will be uploaded within the next couple of months!

And my birthday was last week, so now I'm officially OLD. It turned out to be quite a nice day, a few family members came over for a while, oh, and I got a ticket to see Phantom Of The Opera at the West End!

First off, YAY SUBSCRIPTION!! Special thanks to a 6 month donation, which I received from a friend from in her April Fools contest. Yeah. I'm just having so much fun with the deviantStamps (... is it obvious? XD). And the thumbnail view thing makes updates so much easier to handle.

So it's my birthday on Thursday. I'm getting too old too quickly I'm just having a quiet get-together, nothing too big (I'm not one for over-the-top celebrations ) but I doubt I'll get any collegework done that day. Ah well. Also, on a related note, I owe someone here a VERY late birthday present, which I should have uploaded a couple of weeks ago. Don't worry, it's on the way!

My rabbit Coco is going to be spayed in a few weeks. She's already 3 years old and still hasn't had it done, and spaying rabbits helps prevent a common cancer that is apparently the biggest killer of female rabbits ages 5+. Spaying a rabbit is quite a big deal, since it's a very complicated process as their system is different to cats and dogs, so it's a scary thought, but Coco's strong (she recovered from a critical case of flystrike a year ago, plus she gets tons of exercise) so I have confidence in her. Anyway, best of luck to her!

And one other thing... I'm still working on those animations for college I mentioned a while back. Some of them are evil assignments and have been a bit of trouble, but mostly I'm having fun with them. You can expect to see them within the next 2 months! (that's when they're due in, so they'll have to be done by then!!)

lol I'm so quiet it's creepy. I'm more confident when chatting online or over the phone though.

2] What else can you do besides art?
I perform. A lot. Mostly in stage musicals these days (which basically involves acting, singing and dancing), although I was the lead in the school orchestra (when I was at school) and I was in the school choir too. I play piano and clarinet, and I write music - which I use as theme music for my animations!

3] Do you have a boyfriend or girlfriend?
Nope, not at the moment.

4] Do you want to get married and have kids?
I've always seen myself as someone who'd dedicate their life to their career, but actually I really like the idea of having a proper family. I guess I'll just have to see what happens.

5] Do you have a secret crush?
WHO TOLD YOU - I mean... kinda...

6] What astrology are you?
Star sign - Aries. Chinese zodiac - Dragon.

7] How easy is it to make you laugh?
Depends what mood I'm in, though usually not difficult. Sometimes, though, I get really giggly and will laugh at the stupidest things.

8] What did you want to be when you grew up – when you were a kid?
Long ago I wanted to be a vet, but soon realised how darn squeamish I am. But when I was 9 or 10 I decided I wanted to be a cartoonist, and I haven't looked back since.

9] What scares you the most?
Death. Terminal illnesses and whether or not there is afterlife. I'm not at all afraid of ghosts though; the idea of there being ghosts actually comforts me.

10] What pisses you off more than anything?
Being stereotyped. And seeing others get stereotyped too, without getting a say themself.

11] How old do you think you will live to be?
Hopefully a good long time, but I just don't know!

However, it's still been a great week. Aside that one critic, we also got a different good review, and we've had an absolutely amazing audience response and they're the ones that really matter. Besides, I think everyone involved in the show enjoyed it and we've had a lot of laughs on stage and backstage.

I'm completely out-of-it right now so I'll get to my messages and updates and whatnot tomorrow. I've also been really naughty and haven't done anywhere near as much collegework as I should have so getting back into the swing of things should be... interesting.

Well, I might clean up the white dots on the outline, but other than that it's staying.

I've also decided to separate fanart from my original stuff. The only exception is when I'm making something for someone else on this account (e.g. gifts, contest entires). I still want to do the odd few bits of fanart though, to try experimenting with styles and so people can see what I'm inspired by (there are quite a lot!), and just because it's fun, but from now on I'll put it in places other than this gallery.

First off, thanks for all the comments on Rocky & Rolly. It's doing pretty well on MyToons as well - last time I checked it had almost 1500 views, plus the admins put it on the site's front page (in their "favourites" category), which I was really surprised about! The most common comment I've had though is people saying how they liked the characters. They are really fun to draw, so I might continue using them every so often. Not sure how yet, we'll see!

Second, I handed in a bunch of coursework this week and now I have a short break before second semester starts (Christmas didn't really count as a break for us ) so I'll try and get up to date with my messages and stuff here. I also plan on doing a whole lot of spring cleaning in my gallery.

On a side note, I got lazy when I logged in today and deleted all the journals in my messages, so if there's anything I need to be aware of feel free to let me know!

I've been having an awesome time. I've spent all of today and yesterday with my parents, brother and grandparents. Oh, and the rabbit and guinea-pig have had a few treats too (we couldn't leave them out!). The rabbit in particular really seemed to enjoy herself ^^ I was kind of hoping my nan would take it easier though. She hasn't been well lately, but still insists on helping out with... well, everything! Like after dinner today and yesterday, my mum and I were rushing to get the washing up done before nan started doing it all herself. I think we did a pretty good job, but she still managed to help quite a bit! Oh well

And before I forget...

Last Saturday, I went to visit my aunt, uncle and cousins. My other aunt and uncle were there too, and so was my nan from the other side of the family. There I played my very first Wii game (haha, I actually did okay with the bowling but I certainly don't have anything to brag about when it comes to golf!! XD) and my cousins taught us some 'interesting' party games. There was one involving mummifying someone in toilet paper and then sticking a carrot in their mouth, and voila! A snowman. Haha, I love my family, everyone's so crazy

And today I saw The Simpsons Movie!! (I bought it for dad as a Christmas present) It was a LOT better than I expected, actually. Like the reviews all say, it's really funny, but a lot of reviews also complain that it's a letdown compared to what people were expecting. I mean, the storyline wasn't anything really exceptional, but it wasn't bad and the quality was pretty amazing. But I just enjoyed it the whole way though!

And on Friday I'm off to London to see SPAMALOT!! *is a crazy Monty Python fan as well as a total musical geek* I don't like my expectations to be too high, but I just have a feeling it's gonna be really good. Either way, I might as well enjoy looking forward to it!

So that's my Christmas. I've still got a lot of coursework to do, but I'm trying to get through my deviation updates (I had 200 when I logged on today). I hope you've all been having fun and just in case I'm inactive again for a while, I wish you all a very Happy New Year!

So that's what's happened so far today. In case you're wondering why I've been so inactive lately, well I've got a month left until all my projects are due in so I'm working like crazy on those. I'm recording the voice overs for the animation today (I've already animated most of the scenes that have no dialogue) and basically I hardly have any free time right now. I have 122 deviations piled up to look at when my work's done, but I`ll try to quickly get through my messages before I disappear again.

Anyway, just updating to get that journal about the musical off of my front page, since that was over a week ago now. We've already started work on our next show, which will be in March. I'm gonna try auditioning for a principal part in this one. (yikes!)

College is going okay at the moment, but I've got a ton of work to do over the Christmas holidays. It's not too bad though, because it's all fun stuff and we get a semester break over the last couple of weeks of January, which is nice.

Ooh, and today I watched a pretty awesome cartoon crossover - "The Grim Adventures Of The Kids Next Door". I'd recently felt that Cartoon Network was going downhill, but this was definitely worth seeing! The storyline was really good and the animation quality seemed enhanced somehow too. I've had one or two fanart ideas inspired from this; when I'll get round to that I just don't know!

I'm slowly getting through my deviation updates. Sorry for the lack of uploads from myself lately, but I've been taking it easy in the art department and dedicating most of my working time to the Rocky & Rolly animation.

So she went to the vet. They couldn't feel any signs of a tumour inside her, which was a good thing, and then the vet discovered that she had an infection. This had possibly been caused by some dirt getting into a wound she had earlier this year after recovering from flystrike (the poor thing's gone through a lot lately!). So they cleaned her up and gave her an injection. They mentioned the injection can upset her stomach, but for show she seems okay. She's not eating quite as much as she usually does, but she's pretty energetic considering she's in pain. Besides, it could have been a LOT worse.

Once again, I managed to panic like crazy over nothing. That's life, huh? (well... my life anyway ) Also, the vet said it's quite rare for younger rabbits to get this cancer I thought she had (she's almost 3 years old) but just thinking she had it scared me and so she's getting spayed once she's over the infection. Heh. The first time I mentioned that near Coco, she thumped angrily. It'll definitely be worth it though.

ANYWAY. I've actually made a start on the Rocky & Rolly animation now. I've only completed 6 seconds so far (out of nearly 3 minutes) but the script is done, and the storyboard's in progress, so it's all going smoothly.

Also, I plan on starting a new comic strip series soon-ish. I've had this idea for a series, but want to improve on overall quality of artwork, so rather than making a bunch of rushed animations I'm gonna try a bunch of detailed comic strips. I'm still designing characters though so this won't be for another few months. On the bright side, I'm actually further ahead with my collegework than I planned to be right now, which is really quite refeshing!

The animation quality and visual detail... just stunning. The perfect combination of cartoon and realism. And I loved how the rats' fur was done - not all neat and tidy but sticking out in all directions like a real animal. And the cooks had scars and burns on their hands, there was none of this cheapo untextured stuff you get in the lower quality 3D movies. The rain and water was done really well, but I know Pixar have been experts in the liquid area ever since they animated the sea in Finding Nemo, so no surprise there!

The storyline was fun and exciting, but also quite dark, which you don't see a lot of in 3D movies so that was cool! A lot of the humour comes from not exactly what the characters are doing, but the way in which they do it, and this is the first time I've ever actually known this technique to work in a 3D film. The fast-paced animation and interesting camera angles really helped to highlight the action.

And back to the characters... a very clever technique was used in this department, which I find very inspirational. Instead of making the characters act like cartoon characters, they made them act like live-action actors who were trying to act like cartoon characters. It was in their facial expressions and body language, and I think the way they did it was pure genius.

It was also nice that the characters weren't stereotypical. The only main female character was strong and powerful, there was none of this damsel-in-distress stuff and she was capable of doing things without the help of her love interest (even though the romance thing did play quite a big part near the end). And there wasn't one particular villain as such - there were a couple of villainous-like characters - after all, the bad guys are always fun - but there wasn't really anyone who was completely evil throughout the whole thing, which is nice just because it makes a change.

So... if you haven't seen it already then I highly recommend it to anyone who likes, action, adventure, comedy, romance, animation or just plain unique-ness. There's something in it for everyone!

Anywayz...

Chicago was awesome! All of the cast were so energetic and talented, and I hadn't realised how hilarious the musical is when I saw the movie. The actors in the stage show really know how to play their roles just right. Even the music director had a character of some sort, and you could just tell he was enthusiastic about it all. There were a few nice special effects, without too much so it didn't go overboard. And kudos to the choreographer for those amazing dance numbers!

There are a lot of West End shows I'd like to see in the near future (e.g. Spamalot, Phantom of the Opera, that Lord of the Rings musical which I hear is actually very good...) and Chicago wasn't particularly one I'd thought about that much, but I ended up enjoying it a lot! The music's very jazzy too, which in my opinion is always a good thing.

And that's why I got no coursework done on Saturday.

Okay, so it's not a good thing but I was dreading that I'd be the only one. As it turns out, it is extremely difficult for students to get work placements that don't interfere with their studies.

So my mum got a new job recently, and started about 3 weeks ago. On the job description it mentioned that it might involve 'basic word processing'. HA. Yeah right. She soon found out that it involved word processing on a super-expert level, along with using spreadsheets and databases, which she wasn't very confident with. And things had to be done in particularly complicated ways, and fast. Not to mention she wasn't even given any training, and was just expected to know exactly how to do everything. So the whole thing was a nightmare.

She's decided that she's going to leave, but this meant that she would be unemployed for a while. Meanwhile, she had ben talking to a few people who she used to work with, and they realised how awful this new job was. Anyway, her previous employer has just phoned and they've given her her old job back! She's not working as many days as she used to right now, but one of the other employees there has had a few health problems and was happy to give one of her days up.

It's just been so nice that people have looked out for her like this, and everything worked out in the end. Now all she has to do is tell her new employer that she's leaving. After that she's apparently going to relax. (If she doesn't relax I'm gonna force her to )

She's on the phone to dad at the moment, and later she'll phone nan to let her know what's going on, since she's been worrying about it too and recently been seriously ill herself. She's recovering well, but that'll make her feel even better I'm sure.

So... apart from that, not much else to say. Except I'm officially a sophomore as of next Wednesday, and this semester we're studying things like character movement and recording sound effects... oh, and 'visual animation research', which I'm assuming involves watching loads of animations. w00t!

I've got 3 weeks to install stuff onto it and learn how to use it, then I'm back to college. Also in this time, I'm trying to find a work placement in the animation industry - preferably a Saturday job since I don't have my timetable yet for next semester and could be in at any time any weekday. Anyway, next semester should be awesome since it's gonna be all about focusing on what type of animation you personally want to do. I'm sticking to 2D, meaning I'll be able to focus on my drawing skills, do some stuff on Flash, and things like that.

Also, in the past 24 hours I had a couple of replies to my "want to be featured?" journal. Unfortunately, the last spaces for featured artists were filled over a week ago and I apologise to those who didn't make it. Don't worry though, a lot of people feature artists in their journals at some point so if you watch a fair amount of people you're likely to get another chance soon!

On an unrelated note to any of this, I'm giving out adoptables at TLKFAA. If you're a member you can go and get one for yourself!

1. As a person I'm incredibly shy. However, I suddenly feel totally self-confident when performing on stage.

2. I'm currently the only short person in my entire family - including grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins etc. Everyone else is actually taller than average! I'm also the first shorter than average person in the family for 4 generations.

3. I've been a vegetarian ever since I found out what meat was. I got a rabbit for my 8th birthday, and a few days after that I noticed a mouse running around his hutch. I asked my mum if the rabbit would try to attack and eat the mouse and she replied to me that he wouldn't because rabbits are vegetarians. So yeah. Don't worry though - I'm not against other people eating meat, I just don't do it myself! (I'm not gonna protest against ya if that's what you're thinking XD)

4. I created my first cartoon characters when I was about 4 or 5 years old, but back then I had no intentions of becoming a professional cartoonist. I don't think I even knew what a cartoonist was! In fact, for a long time I wanted to be a vet, because I've always loved animals and wanted to do something to help them, but when I was about 9 or 10 I faced the facts that I'd be waaaay too squeamish! This was the same time when I started reading the Peanuts comic strips, and that's what inspired me to become a cartoonist. (Even though I'm more of an animator but that's beside the point)

5. I always dread my birthdays! Partly because I've always hated the concept of growing older, but mostly because I fear unwanted attention. It's been like this ever since I was about 11 or 12.

6. I'm not competitive. And I usually end up suffering because of this too, but it's just the way I am. It also tends to annoy a lot of people, which in some ways is actually kinda fun!

7. I don't belong to a religion, however I do believe that there is something spiritual that protects us (kind of like a guardian angel I guess). This is because I've noticed that when I am silently wishing for something to happen really hard, then it actually seems to happen. For example, when I aced my science GCSEs when I didn't understand a thing about them; when I got this certain animation done in time even though it was next to impossible to complete in the time I was given; when my rabbit was fatally ill and nearly didn't make it but due to a few random coincidences she survived... and the one I feel guilty about when at school I hated this project we were doing and wished for a substitute teacher for a change, and then our real teacher went to hospital. True, it could easily be coincidence, but it's also quite reassuring to think I'm being protected.

8. My trademark is to raise one eyebrow. Completely random, yes, but for some reason I'm the only one in the family who seems to be able to do it.

So... last week I visited some very tropical beaches - and the waves there are amazing! There was also a lot of lively nightlife in most of the areas. I also explored Mt. Teide (the island's largest volcano) which was tiring but exciting. The view from the top made it all worthwhile! And I went whale watching, which was great since I saw a lot of whales but I don't think there was anyone who came off that boat who didn't feel seasick! Ugh. And on the last full day there, I went to Aqualand, which is a very underrated water park. It's serious fun there - as long as you like waterslides! (yay) Also at Aqualand, I saw a dolphin show, which was absolutely spectacular. The whole week was sooo awesome.

I have some sketches and photography to upload, but it might take a while! As for now, it's time to check on those deviations and messages...

I loved it. The songs are fun and catchy. The script was well-written and there were plenty of humourous lines for all the characters. The cast was simply amazing - I don't know how John Travolta (in his feminine form!) managed to do those dance moves in that huge 'fat suit', yet he managed, and he made it look so easy! There was also quite a lot of action, mostly shown in dance form, and there really wasn't a dull moment. And you can guarantee coming out of that theatre in a great mood!

That's the first time I've ever known an audience in a cinema to give a movie such an applause. It was SUCH a good atmosphere.

One such awesome line, said by John Travolta's character:
"I know one or two things about men."

Great stuff.

Anyhoo, I might as well start with somewhat of an introduction. I'm a digital animation student, just finished in my first year of three in university. I had a DA account a while back but decided to make a fresh start now that my style has changed. Still developing it though, mind you. But I've finally started to find some styles I'm happy with.

So basically you can expect to see a lot of animation work here, especially when next semester starts. I enjoy creating comic strips too. Let it be known, though, I'm a "professional amateur".

And since I need to work on my drawing style big time, I might do a 100 theme challenge in the near future. Or at least once I've thought up 100 themes.

Requests/Trades - closed for now, might open later.
