Phew i never thought i'd say it, but after 2 months twiddling my now raw and bleeding thumbs im happy to say im off to Uni tomoro to start my third and final year of animation - me trying desperately not to think about looking for a job once thats all done @_@
Looking forward to seeing everyone again and giving the little gray cells a good creative work out

Speaking of animation, i'd be honoured if you guys would visit Nif and my studio page on DA The Journal should explain everything ^_^ I want to move some of my animation work off here and keep this as my own personal work but i might post a few pieces im particularly proud of up here.

erm - sorry brain's gone dead . . . new glasses, my head is shpinning . . .

Phew, just back back from an awesome month in Japan! Went with and stayed with and her family and we had an absolutely cracking time - Japan is so beautiful and the people there are so friendly. We had fantastic fun at the festivals and fireworks displays, we visited a huge open air museum with some gorgeous japanese/japanese style buildings from all over the world, we had some great girly shopping days out and ate Baskin Robbins till we went bang We got to take a few days in Tokyo too which was amazing - its such a great city and we went to a manga/anime expo which was really informative about the industry so we learned a lot and had fun at the same time.
Weather was lovely but the mozzies ate me alive
We met some great people - 'Kazu' aka Natsumi and her family were so nice, we met Nat's friend Nozomi and we went to the karaoke - which was sooo much fun!, her sis and uni friends and professors so we had a great time with them.
Its just been great, no complaints whatsoever and i'd love to go back in the future. Really feel inspired so im just taking a few days to settle and looking forward to cracking on with some drawing.

Hope you guys have enjoyed the hols and youre all feeling rested. I'm gonna go and collapse in a corner - thats my jetlag kicking in. 20 hours straight travelling from Nagoya to Paris then Paris to Newcastle. Not fun ¬_¬

I finished my Second Year of Uni, third Semester was Advanced Maya and an Essay and Presentation so that was a fun term of banging my head against a wall. Couldn't believe it though, my comp made it through months of button-bashing abuse to conk on me as soon as the term ended! bless he must have had enough, so for the first few weeks of the hols i was stuck with no internet - sorry about that guys.
We've got a new machine which also seems to have a vendetta against the modem but its behaving itself for now (me trying very hard not to jinx it.) But It's the weirdest feeling breaking up from uni for the holidays . . . with the deadlines you're constantly working, eating on the run, stress and sleepless nights and then all of a sudden its all handed in and its like . . . 'Oh' . . . Your mind's still in overdrive but you have nothing to do. It's like doing 120mph then hitting a brick wall, i can never get used to that.

Luckily i had a few side projects to keep me busy - me and Nif' were invited to do animation and character design workshops with two schools in the North-East. The first was a 6th form Business induction project. The kids were asked to come up with a marketing campaign for a new healthy snack so we spent two days with them, showing them basic stop-motion and cutout animation and helping with setting up cameras and post-production editing. Most of the work they did themselves, we were really just there to supervise and help out where we could. They did an amazing job though and we were so pleased with how it went. The second was at a primary school with some year 6s doing basic character drawing and cutout animation. I must admit im not good with kids so it was a little scary but we had a good laugh and we got a great reaction off the class, so that was a big relief.

Back home for a weeks rest and then we were off again to the London Film and Comic Con - was anyone else there? For our final animation project we had to make a music video, but we also had to contact the musician of the song that we wanted to animate to to secure a temporary copyright of the song. Nif' and i had been in contact with Vic Mignogna since we met him at the London Expo in 2007 and we asked if we could use one of his songs. OMG he was so great, he couldn't help us enough. He had our own ideas about the video but we asked Vic about some things and we got some great feedback. We got it finished and Nif was kind enough to burn off a proper DVD of the music video. Vic was at the Comic con and we were able to hand over the DVD, which was so nerve-racking! i was terrified that he wouldn't like it but we got a great reaction from him so for Vic!

The Comic Con was great though, we had such an amazing time – we got to talk to Spike Spencer about animation and voice acting which was so much fun, he’s a great laugh and he just couldn’t do enough to help us. I got to talk to Lee Townsend of Marvel fame, and a comic artist i wasn’t aware of called Sam Hart, who was just amazing. I got a beautiful sketch of Merlin from him from his new comic based on the King Arthur legends – seriously guys, check him out. I bought his Robin Hood book but haven’t had the chance to read it yet. Erm . . . i got my photo taken with a Xenomorph from Alien who was frickin’ TERRIFYING!!!! Dude, he stole my awesome new hat too! Had guys from Transformers, Star Trek, Star Wars, Red Dwarf bits of all sorts. It really was just an amazing weekend – only downside is now im knackered! Been dead to the world this week, but saving my energy cuz at the end of the July im off to Japan to spend a month with a family there so OMG its so exciting!
I’ll try and put up a new journal before i go but if i don’t reply its cuz im kinda not in the country anymore
Well i hope everyone’s doing okay, taking some well earned rest from school/uni/work and enjoying the sunshine – As i watch the water level slowly rise up around my house ¬¬ What? You think we get sunshine here in the North-East? ^_^ Lol.

just finished the most hectic 3 months of my life and looking foward to some quiet-time with my sketchbook At uni we started Semester 2 after christmas with the brief for an animated music video on which i collaborated with . But at the same time we were drafted into a university project to create a short animated segment for the renaming of the Sunderland University Media Centre . . . for film producer Lord David Puttnam (jeez, no pressure ^_^; ) So we got together with a small group of first years to make the piece - the brief was a thirty sec in any medium, which turned out to be 3 weeks of hard graft over a hot lightbox for 1 min of hand-drawn animation. Nifer took over as head of production as well as doiung a totally spiffing job on animo and director ^_^ and i did preproduction, storyboards, characters design and i helped with the animation itself. Must admitt it got very tense in the group towards the end and we really started to get wound up as the deadline approached, but we got it done for the official screening and overall i thought everyone worked really hard and we were pleased with the result. We got an invite to the renaming ceremony and we even got to meet Lord Puttnam himself - who was given one of my animation frames signed by all of us to take away too, eeeeeh!

so was very proud with the group and the finished piece, only downside being it put us firmly behind with the work we were actually getting marked on ^_^; luckily we had the idea set before we began the Media Centre dealy so was just a case of finishing the preproduction process and starting the actual animation. spent the next 6 weeks working like the clappers on the music vid, organsing the event and also writing out 2,000 word essay for Design History which was dropped on us from a great height. cuz of the David Puttnam thing we were given a two week extension - not on the vid of course, that still had to be in for the exhibition date ¬¬, but at least we were given some lee-way with the sketchbooks whihc i finished and handed in yesterday.
So needless to say im knackered! been working practically every waking moment to get this stuff in for the deadline and havent had a full nights sleep since christmas so really relieved to be on hols for three weeks :3

so thats my whinge ^_^ hope you are all okay.

just to give you a heads up im wanting to do some reshuffling of my account and deleting some of the older work so i can post up some more recent work. Ill keep the more popular pieces in a seperate folder, its just cuz my drawing style has changed a lot recently and id like to show off some of my own work rather than just fanart if thats groovy. dont get me wrong, i like doing the fanart, but i just dont want people think i dont have my own ideas either.

erm, well this is awkward . . .

Well needless to say there's been a lot going on this year and ive fairly been kept on my toes.
The First year of University has been great! thoroughly enjoying it, but there's a hell of a lot of work involved and for the past few months its been a case of bouncing between Uni and home, and any spare time i have been able to squeeze out of evenings and weekends ive either been catching up on work or just been too zoned out to do anything useful.
We've just finished our final show so thats me done and dusted until September, whooooo! It was fantastic, really enjoyed it - collab'ed with Nifer of Spike-Nifer and Freakzee on a quirky little cutout called The Storyteller's Fables.


on a not-so-great note, i have been having a few problems at home, so even if i did manage to get on i wouldn't be great company. Things are slowly getting better and we're trying to get back to normal, but i hope you'll understand if i need to take a little time and a little space for myself.


but enough of that, moving onwards . . . . wow, i really cant believe the response ive gotten from my work while ive been away! OMG its mindblowing! i cant thank you guys enough for all the favs and comments, i really dont think ill be able to respond to them all but im going to give it a damn good try - but i really do appreciate every response i get, thank you so much!!


ive got some stuff i need to crack on with, i know i owe people trades and requests and im gonna make a start and get those up ASAP. And ive got some new drawings im dying to do - i'd like to redo some of the drawings in my Gallery aswell so i may be clearing out my old work at some point, ill keep you posted on that.


right then, i think thats all for the moment . . . i know ill come up with something later on, but i think youve had enough of me rambling on for the time being.

in my last journal entry i tried to make ammends for anything else i may have said to upset you guys - and i couldnt believe the response i recieved! i couldnt believe how many of you guys went out of your way to ask how i was and offer words of advice and support.

i really do feel humbled by that - and i just cant thank all of you guys enough!

in the past two weeks ive managed to severely piss off two good people in this communtity, which is more than i have in the past year ive been on here myself!

im trying hard not to cry as i write this because thats just how i feel right now . . . i dont know how i can explain myself. im tired and im fed up, i feel lonely not seeing my friends for so long but thats no excuse. i have NO right to give other people grief for how i feel and as a result of that ive just been isolating myself further.

this isnt who i am, this isnt what im really like and more than anything i dont want you guys to think it is.

whatever's going on in my head, i'll deal with it myself . . . so for the time being i think i'll just stay out of everyone's way.

i just need some time to stop and think.

to VampireDemonAngel and jdcunard who are both expecting work from me - dont worry ^^ i'll be working on those in the meantime and i'll get tehm to you as soon as possible.

This was one of my favourite poems from GCSE, dont read it if you really cant be bothered . . . but id recommend it, its a really good read.


THE VULTURES by Chinua Achebe

In the greyness
and drizzle of one despondent
dawn unstirred by harbingers
of sunbreak a vulture
perching high on broken
bone of a dead tree
nestled close to his
mate his smooth
bashed-in head, a pebble
on a stem rooted in
a dump of gross
feathers, inclined affectionately
to hers. Yesterday they picked
the eyes of a swollen
corpse in a water-logged
trench and ate the things in its bowel. Full
gorged they chose their roost
keeping the hollowed remnant

Strange
indeed how love in other
ways so particular
will pick a corner
in that charnel-house
tidy it and coil up there, perhaps
even fall asleep - her face
turned to the wall!

ANYWAY what was I saying . . . . oh yeah.
My dilemma – I love seeing my work done in colour, I like to use Photoshop coz I think you get some really amazing effects and it just looks so professional . . . but to be perfectly honest, I’m not very good at it, im still experimenting with it and it really takes me a long time to get a piece finished – I literally have a computer file full of half-and-nearly finished digital paintings (which I WILL get done I promise!!)

. . . so, what Im trying to say is that every-so-often id like to post up links to some of my black-and-white drawings in my Journal, and id like you great people to feel free to take these away, clean them up (im crap at that, sorry), make any changes/improvements you want, add backgrounds . . . but most of all, colour as you like then post them up in your own Galleries so I can have a gander and sing your praises and what-have-you. You probably know the drill – id be really much appreciative if you’d credit me for the drawing, maybe add a link to the original so other Deviants can have a go . . . and . . . that’s about it really.
If there’s one you’d like to colour just send me a note with the name of the sketch, you don’t have to wait for a reply to get started – the note is more for my benefit so I can keep track of who’s got my drawings (maybe im being paranoid, but id just feel better about it if I did it like this, that ok?)

I’ll put a couple up here to start you off with . . . and more than likely I’ll have more interesting ones on the way
