Haven't been drawing at all really, hence the "I'll return" bit of the last journal. School's been dragging on like a dying animal limping through a dense forest with each breath coarser and closer to death than the last. Yes, that's exactly what it it.

Halloween was decent I guess. I had to work, because it's mandatory for all employees. Halloween is our pizzaria's busiest day of the year. Also, instead of making my Rei costume, I got sick all last month, so I had to resort to spending my hard-earned cash for something like a dopey viking costume. So totally last minute.

I went to a party on Thursday, which was boring. People seemed to refuse to dance until about midnight which was when I was leaving cos I had to work the next day. :'C Yep yep, all in all it was pretty sucky.

Haven't been drawing mucho as of late, mainly because I'm lazy, cos I haven't been doing all my schoolwork as of late either. SUCH A TERRIBLE CHILD.

I owe people drawings and stuff too...dammit. I dunno what I'm doing with my life anymore. I'm sleeping good hours now, but I still wake up feeling as exhausted as a did when I wasn't sleeping well. >8C FAWRGLE RAWRGLE Also, ever since people have discovered I can sound like Cartman, I've had 3 requests to sing the Pokerface song after that episode came out... = A=


I'm also torn between two feelings at the moment. Joyous happiness and utter loneliness. I feel more and more alone these days. Maybe I'm slightly depressed again though, I dunno. Why am I even writing this? Why are you even reading this? D8<

2. NEVER date someone who leaves their significant other for you. There's no guarantee they'll do it to you...but there's no guarantee that they WON'T do it, either. What kind of person does that? Think about it: do you REALLY want to be with someone who does that to other people? Is that the kind of person you want to be with? Is that the kind of person you want to be?

3. Don't "wait" for someone. If they wanted to date you, they wouldn't wait two or three years to do it. And if they did? Well, good for you. But was all that time spent feeling sorry for yourself and having someone play with your head worth it? What if they never ask you out? What if you just break up? That means you spent a lot of valuable time---time you could have spent dating other guys who actually DESERVED a chance, time you could have spent playing an instrument orpracticing yoga or saving up for a motorcycle or making pottery or SOMETHING---were basically for nothing.

4. Don't use people as "placeholders". It's a shitty way to treat people, and believe it or not karma WILL come back and bite you in the ass. Don't EVER use someone like that. "I'll date you until the person I REALLY like 'comes around' and asks me out." WTF is wrong with you? What happens if your 'laceholder' starts to really care about you? Do you just...dump them? How do you explain to them that they were just a substitute until something better came along? How do you justify something like that?

5. Don't date someone who doesn't respect you---or others. The measure of a man is in his actions, not just his words. If he doesn't treat OTHERS with respect, he probably won't treat YOU with respect.

6. For that matter, don't date someone who can't even take you out on a fucking date. Paying for breakfast or dinner or lunch once in a blue moon won't kill you, it's not like we're asking for a free meal ticket for the rest of our lives. All we want is a small token of appreciation---show us that you care. You don't have to buy us everything under the sun, but being treated like a lady once in a while is nice. And it's really not THAT hard. If he can't even make the effort to take you out on a date (even a really simple date, like a picnic in the park), chances are he's not going to invest effort in the relationship where it REALLY counts either. FYI: hanging out in his funky dorm does NOT count as a date.

7. And by the way, don't act like it's SO HARD to make the effort. Not only is it rude, but it's really obnoxious. Quit acting like the weight of the world is on your shoulders---it's not.

8. For Pete's sake, LADIES! Don't date a guy who calls other girls "whores", "skanks", "sluts", or "bimbos"! Guys who talk about girls like that don't respect women, which means he probably won't respect you. A man should ALWAYS talk about and treat a woman with respect. If he can let the word "slut" trip off his tongue so easily, what makes you think he isn't badmouthing YOU?

9. Lose the insecurity, fellas. It's not cute, it's not fun, and it's definitely NOT sexy. It gets exhausting having to tell you WHY we like you all the time. And it gets on our nerves when we constantly have to remind you that we like you for more than your cute butt. Not all of us are that shallow---to most of us, personality is key, and you really insult us when you imply that all we care about is your physical appearance. It also bugs us when you ask us why we don't go for someone better. Obviously we thought you were fine just the way you were, but apparently we thought wrong. Has it ever occurred to you that we might like you just the way you are? Or that it offends us when you call our judgment into question like that? Maybe we LIKE your freckles or the way your ears turn red when you're embarassed. Maybe we LIKE the way your nose crinkles up when you laugh. Stop being so damn insecure! The day after I went to the clinic, I broke out into terrible fevers and coughing fits. Stayed home yesterday and today. I couldn't stomach anything yesterday, and my mom called my aunt that lives nearby to come over and give me a ride to the clinic again. I've never felt this shitty in my life. Doc says it's either a really bad infection that's taking advantage of the fact that I was sick, or I got the flu again. Immediately after having it... ; 3;

So yeah, I wish I had more comics and drawings up...but I can hardly sit up straight, let alone draw for hours in this crap-tastical state.

I think the best class out of all of them is my Japanese class. Ever since I was little, I've been fascinated by other cultures, and I think learning a third language is cool. I can remember though, a time when I didn't want anything to do with my mom's culture and language. She would speak Spanish to me, and I wouldn't understand it. One day I even screamed at her "I CAN'T UNDERSTAND YOU! LEARN ENGLISH MOM!" I think it broke her heart, but I didn't mean it really. I was just a kid, y'know?

People are kinda surprised when they see me speaking near fluent Spanish, I kinda love the feeling. I'm so white, my nickname in Spanish is "Little milk", bwaha! After taking Spanish in middle school, I made it a goal to speak to my mom in just Spanish. I took it for four years in high school and got the highest grade you can get on the Spanish Advanced Placement exam.

AP...hahaha...contrary to popular belief, despite my childish nature, I'm actually really smart. I took so many of those AP classes and tests that I was a sophomore by credits by the time I started my first semester here at college, and my ACT exam put me in a Calculus class for business majors (WHICH SUCKED BIG TIME BTW). Now technically I'm a junior...kinda scary... ; A; I still have to take all the required credits though, so I guess those credits are jack shit to me. haha

Sorry. Don't mean to toot my own horn. My self-esteem is so crappy, I have to do this occasionally to boost my moral. Gotta remind myself where I've come from. So I can move forward with more ease.

Dad laughed at me yesterday because I was looking through some of my mangas that are actually in Japanese. I was trying to pick out the symbols I could read, even though I don't know what words they make yet. Inuyasha is pretty good because the kanji has hiragana next to it, so i can still read it. Also, Katakana is a fun system of writing , cos it actually makes English words. The reason dad laughed was because I was reading a Black Lagoon manga ~fireoz gave me in the mail, and ended up reading the word "bitch" outloud. But I said it more like "Biiiiitch", heh heh! Dang Revy...and her sailor mouth.

I'm ranting again, I'm sorry.

...Is it odd I have weird taste in...people? I know that sounds weird, but what I mean to say is, "I have weird likings for people that are kinda weird and different." I like to look at people. I go to relatively the same places everyday. I ride the bus to school. I work at a pizzaria on my off days. I go to church on Sunday. So I see the same people every single week, and it's like...I've grown an invisible bond with strangers, and I like all of them.

I like you, balding dude with the big glasses that draws in his notebook on the bus. Making your blueprints for your dream house, even if you know it might not ever come to fruition. I like you, weird school library janitor. I can't tell if you're a man or a woman anymore, but you work hard, and I like that. I like you, half Filipino-Chinese boy from my high school. I didn't talk to you much back then, but I started talking to you on the bus today. You have an adorable laugh, but your eyes are always moving around. I like you, Japanese teacher. I dunno what it is with the Japanese teachers here, but you all have amazing senses of humor. I like you too, dude that crochets colorful things on the bus. People probably say you're gay. Maybe you are, but I think that more guys should know how to to that. It's a special gift that people shouldn't criticize you for. I like you, pizzaria co-workers. You guys aren't really strangers to me anymore. We're more like a family. A mother and...a bunch of crazy kids? Hahaaa, that seems about right. Thanks for laughs that keep me going. It pisses me off that:

I really want to buy:

- a dog. Even if it stinks.

Today I realized that:

- I have some homework to catch up on, but most of it's reading.

I HATE:

- USING PUBLIC BATHROOMS.

I realized I'm weird because:

- I look at people awkwardly and end up getting awkward looks back.
- I make sound effects for all of my actions when I'm bored.
- I dance in the dark before going to bed.

I know this is gross, BUT:

- Adolf totally ate creamy garlic sauce out of the trash can at work that one time...
- I have something that looks like a flesh eating virus on my left wrist! ARGHGH!

For some weird reason:

- My back hurts a lot.
- I didn't eat breakfast today.
- I'm studying a major that may not get me a job. But at least I'm doing it because I love it.

Nothing smells better than:

- A new book.

A note on my character names: All my main characters have Japanese names, and their first and last names usually mean something (Original right? D| WRONG). Also, for those who don't know already, Japanese last names come before writing one's first name. I have yet to verify these names with an actual Japanese person, but I've had the characters named this long that I don't plan on changing them, lol.


Hinote Ryoku

1.) Hinote= Fire/flames; Ryoku= strength
Rather fitting for his personality and purpose. He's always seeking ways to become stronger because he draws a circle surrounding those around him and longs to protect them. His last name has something to do with his initial fire powers/debility but I mainly just needed a name that ended with an H for...story purposes... >___>

2.) Childhood love of anime + Favorite animal= THIS DUDE AND HIS TAILS * A* weee, he's foxy~
Lol, that's only funny cos it's true... ; A; Like most characters I made him up visually before coming up with his personality, but I always wanted him to be a heroic guy. He later developed qualities like being a typical strong silent type. I totally ditched the idea of dopey/spazzy hero. He's serious, but has a soft side that he exposes once and a while. I wanted someone that could get into arguments with my other main character Shiki.

3.) How he's changed? I've had him since I was like...14? Wow. I drew him in my math class xD. He's changed quite a bit since then. xD; uhhh...

Jinsei Shiki

1.) Jinsei=life; Shiki= time of death (or can also mean) command and direction
Her name of "Life and Death" tie in to her purpose and abilites. |B

2.) Shiki's final design eventually ended up looking like a close friend of mine. She also got some of her personality. Although Shiki is rather calm, intelligent, and mature, when she gets angry or emotional in anyway...you better duck and cover! It's fitting because her Soul God is Suzaku, and when released the fire bird is really pissy and attacks innocents and stuff. Not good stuff. :C

3.) She initially started off looking more like myself, because when I was young Kitsune was gonna be a story that was more like some fantasy life I wanted to live in or something *laughs*. I grew out of that immaturity though and changed the story drastically. When sketching ideas for her, I asked an acquaintance of mine if I could use her haircut for my character and she agreed. We later became friends, and then very close which was kind of a strange coincidence. So I guess I have my art to thank for a lot of things....wow this answer got way off topic.

4.) Shiki adores foxes, but says she thinks Ryoku is a jerk. Lol


Yoshitaka Keiko

1.) Yoshi-taka--> Yoshi=Alright, Taka= quantity ;Keiko= training, study

What I enjoyed about our conversation though, was it later evolved into talking about my Kitsune comic idea (hell, that might even just be a working title...). But like I've said before, I probably won't draw it until I feel the time is right. Pops threw some questions at me and made me really think about what the comic will be about.

So last night I was thinking to myself late into the night "Just how many characters/protagonists are there in Kitsune?" and drew out a relationship map of how the characters (even previously deceased ones) relate to one another (ie. friendships, crushes/romance/romantic tensions, enemies)the names on the map included:

Main Group:
Ryoku (aka Seiryu)
Shiki (aka Suzaku)
Keiko (aka Byakko)
Tsubaki (aka Genbu)


Shinto- Ryoku's demonic fox half-brother; villian
Akira- Ryoku's demonic fox half-sister; villain
Kihoshi- Ryoku's fox demon father; killed by Shinto
Minami- Ryoku's human mother
"Grandpa"/"Ojiisan"- the old fart that takes care of Shiki
Roji- Shiki's schoolmate/childhood friend that has a crush on her
Koneko- A girl the group meets in another world (contrary to her name, she isn't a neko-girl...lol)
Meiko- Keiko's mother who died in childbirth
Isshun- Ryoku and Keiko's sensei
Asuka- An old friend to Keiko and Eclaire
Rain- Keiko's future bodyguard, as well as future drunkard... >_>

And then there's all sorts of lil' sub characters and such, but all this plotting and stuff has got me thinking...I don't know too awful much about these characters myself, and I created them! D8

School started last week, so I'm still getting back into the groove of things. Still working a few days at the pizzaria. Still drawing occasionally and practicing my inking via the new tablet. I haven't been feeling well for some reason. Maybe I'm missing my brother too much. Maybe I just feel different when I'm in school and have to wake up early and sit around for long periods of time. Maybe I'm depressed.

I'm also broke...as in...I only have 7 dollars in my account at the mo'. Thus is my life...I work for five months and spend every penny and dime on college and textbooks... So if you wanna commish sketches, I wouldn't mind that.
I also owe a guy his money...because it's been way too long and I haven't finished his commissions yet...so if you're reading this and you know I'm talking about you, send me a note so we can talk this out. I can either just give you a full refund as soon as I get my finances out of the shitter, or I can do your requests eventually. It's up to you.

So here, let me tell you a little about myself. What I thought about last night.

Let's begin with my birth. A few things that a lot of people may not know...I almost killed my mother in childbirth....and I was also born a month premature. I have the fates to thank though. My family's genes happen to include being tall, so I was luckily born eight pounds and two ounces. Via C-section of course...

Although I appear to be completely white, I am half-Bolivian on my mother's side. I can speak Spanish almost fluently and it really pisses me off when people are racist to my mother in assuming she doesn't know any English.

When I was very young, my dad was a victim of a very rare syndrome called Guillain-Barré. A syndrome in which the body's immune system attacks part of the Peripheral Nervous System. It starts from the bottom of the body and can work its way up affecting breathing muscles leading to the need of emergency hospitalization. Dad was paralyzed in both legs. I can remember him falling out of bed once and just sobbing. So helpless...a man that wanted nothing more than to just provide for his family which he loved more than anything...

I would ask him to read to me because I was too young to do so and because he needed a purpose. He's the reason I learned how to read.

Miracles do happen though... he made a full recovery.

My father is like a superhero. He's been working outside in the cold and heat since he was 16 years old, and he still has the strength to come home and play with his kids.

Because of his example, I was a bookworm growing up. He and mom would take my brother and I to the local library at least once a week and I checked out a variety of books, probably 10-20 at a time. That was at home though...at elementary school I was a very different kind of child. I liked to talk a lot back then...I still kinda do, but I mainly just talk to the people I'm close with. Back then I spoke to anything that moved. I remember when it was warm here, I'd find caterpillars outside and pick them up. I got in trouble when my teacher found out I was keeping them in my desk. I tried to reason that they were my friends, but she made me put them back outside.

I probably had about a hundred nosebleeds in my second year of school alone. I don't know why...I just did. The nurse knew me by name by then. It was good I met her aquaitance, because in my next few years of elementary I would be spending my time there for other reasons like black eyes.

I got bullied a lot as a kid. I don't really know why. I think it was because of who I was. Perhaps I was too mature for them. Perhaps...I was too human. I started losing my vision at the age of 8 and it's only gotten worse as I've grown older. I got teased for things I couldn't control. Like that. Or because I didn't act the way I should. I was a tomboy...so sometimes I even got into fights with boys who could hit me much harder than the girls could. I learned how to take hits. I learned how to walk home acting as if nothing happened...showing my father my referral notes from the dean's office and telling him I got them because of talking too much. Mom...Dad...they never knew anything about me. Even from the start.

I embraced what I loved to do even back then. I played soccer with the group of Hispanic boys in my first few grades of school. I joined a team and mainly played goalie because of my defense. A hit with a ball...a punch with a fist...they were all the same to me. In 5th and 6th grade I turned to the game of football, and grew to love the game. My arms were and still are strong. I could throw a ball as far as a guy, and I could still find strength to push forward to a touchdown even if I had an older boy clinging on to me because his tackles were so bad. I had gender role issues. It was then I started to wish I was born a man instead of a woman. I soon grew out of that though...excepted myself. It was okay to be female and still do thinks I enjoyed doing. My parents never scolded me for it either. If I asked my dad to buy me Lego Bionicles and Transformers to play with for Christmas, he never said no. When I told mom I didn't want Barbies because they scared me, she was okay with that. I ran around the school playground pretending to be superheroes and making up my own pokemon, instead of sitting on the monkeybars and painting my nails while gossiping to other girls. I didn't try to be a person I wasn't. There was an unexpected hail storm yesterday, and I frolicked in it. It was rather painful but I was laughing all the while.

Laughing at pain...heh. That sounds familiar.

I wonder what kind of motherly advice I'd give my kids if I had any in the future. I bet it would be advice filled with afterthoughts of how life really is.

My brother came home from work yesterday, as I was about to go there to start my shift and began a conversation asking "Guess who got fired today?". I couldn't guess anyone that would particularily deserve to get fired, and I thought it might have been me. He then answered that our own BOSS got fired. Turns out she was picking out of the "cookie jar", and quite a bit too.

I was kinda surprised. At first...I didn't know what to feel. I was upset for a few minutes, but then reflected on the fact that she gave me my job back after I had pleaded for it, after I quit. It made me think about how times are rough these days, and a lot of people go to extreme lengths to get what they want. In all reality, I pity her, her choices...but she has my forgiveness. Somewhere in my heart she'll still be my first employer, a generally nice woman that was overworked, growing old, and still caring for her granddaughter when her daughter couldn't be there. There were times she told me to work harder, but I think that after that I really did. In the end, she commented more about how much faster I was working, instead of the other mistakes I would make throughout my time there.

I think working a job and art kinda go hand in hand. Work ethics apply to both. If we had no patience as artists we would never get anything done. Sketches would remain as such, instead of turning into finished polished pieces. I dunno...I'm rambling again.

I'm getting a haircut tomorrow. I know it's probably like "wow, that's really interesting news *sarcasms*" but the last time I cut my hair short was when I was in middle school. It was a terrible one, and I got made fun of a lot. I guess you could say it traumatized me, because I've been trying to convince my mother that I don't need a haircut. It's time though. My hair is far too thick, lengthy, and unkempt to keep in order anymore. I'm tired of braiding my hair back. You really wanna know how long it takes to do that? It takes me like 15-20 minutes. That's far too long in my book. xD I could be doing more useful stuff in that amount of time. Like...uh...sitting on my ass! >8C

I feel lethargic. I stay in the house far too much. There are so many things I want to do, but there's never enough money. College is expensive and I'm basically paying for it all out of my pocket. I have no fancy scholarships. I work few hours because our business sucks in the summer. I want to save money...or rather, I need to, but I also want to spend it on other people I think deserve it. If I was a millionaire, I'd by a huge bookstore and live in it. Uh-oh, I'm getting random again.

This song reminds me, when I was little I used to listen to Jewel a lot. I thought her poems were weird, but weird things are often fun and interesting. I wanna eat in a different restaurant than the ones my family usually takes us to. I want my uncle, aunt, and grandpa to be here already. They're traveling down from Alaska (gramps from Colorado) because my aunt Beverly is getting married next Saturday. I don't have a nice dress to wear. I haven't bought new clothes in a while. My shoes have holes in them now. When I wash dishes at work my socks get soggy and my feet get cold.

I keep hearing a buzzing. I think there's a gnat flying around here somewhere close. I wonder how many of those we eat when we fall asleep with our mouths agape...or spiders. Poor Charlotte. I try not to kill spiders if I find them, I'd rather put them outside so they can be on their merry way and have plenty to eat outside. I laugh and smile when ladybugs land on me for some reason. Is that strange?

This journal must be pretty strange to read. It jumps a lot only because I'm basically writing my exact thoughts. I wonder what living alone is like. I think I'd like to one day, because I don't mind being alone really. Like right now. I'm alone, and I like it because I can turn my music up, and draw as much as I like. Still, I have chores to do before everyone comes home, so I'm not completely content.

If it was socially acceptable, I would walk barefoot everywhere. Not that I'm a hippie or anything, there's just something really appealing to the idea of feeling the earth underneath you. The individual blades of grass greeting you as you brush by. Stuff like that. Pretty neat now that I think about it. Hobbits are livin' it up, I say.

So yeah, I'm writing this to pimp out the original character tourney of ! This will be it's fourth major tourney, and all visual artists with any level of skill is welcome to participate. A major change has been made to the tourney too, so you don't even need to kill or defeat your opponent! If you so choose, judging will place a greater attention to STORY. Thank goodness, changes for once.

Oh, for those reading and don't know what an OCT (original character tourney) is you basically choose one of your original characters and are matched up against another artist and their respective OC. You are then to draw a picture, comic, or animate an interaction/fight/story involving your OC and your opponent's. It's actually a lot of fun! It provides a new way of thinking I think... incorporating another person's character into a world you create. It can be tricky, what with deadlines and pacing yourself between participating in an online club and the real world, but it is worth it. Trust me. As an avid supporter and participant, I have grown so much as a comic artist over the past couple years because of these tourneys. I've made wonderful friends, forged bonds that can't be broken, and have opened myself to a variety of stories for my own characters to develop and grow.

So why not give it a try? And if you've already participated in one of 's tourneys before or a similar OCT, why not give it ANOTHER try? You can't get anywhere unless you keep trying. Persistence is key in life. Problems are never solved if people just keep giving up on them. So I invite you to participate if you really want to. If you half-heartedly join, you probably won't get far, but if you are truly interested to see your limitations broken and your efforts produce something that pushes your abilities into another level of skill, by all means, join.

So yeah...the doctor says there could be a variety of things wrong with me, including something that is rather serious. He can only speculate though. I already had a feeling about what was wrong, and he only confirmed it. xD;

Makes me sad that I need about ten lab tests done though, and we can't afford them. So I have to wait to see if my school medical insurance or whatev can help me pay for them.

*sigh* Life goes on, I suppose.

My screenname only gives me more names that I recognize as myself. If someone said Secchan or Secchy in real life, I'd probably turn around and respond to it.

+If possible, your age?
18, but in August I'll be 19. I'm secretly waiting for my 21st birthday though. Ya see, where I live we have casinos. And every time I go to a certain one for a dinner buffet with my parents I always get yelled at by the same police officer that says I'm loitering as my folks play some slots. I'm secretly waiting for the day I can just go there and have him yell at me, just to whip out my wallet and say "I'm 21! HRAW HAW, TAKE THAT LAW ENFORCEMENT!"

Yeah...I'm weird. I dunno if it's a law that just applies to this state because of it's druggie problems, but for my 18th birthday I bought whiteout just because I was old enough to. *rant mode*

+When did you start drawing?
I dunno, when I was really little though. I was always drawing in kindergarten and stuff. I remember finding some old stuff like books I made when I was five, and when I drew a picture of me in a rocket flying towards the sun, my teacher wrote a note on the book saying it was too dangerous to fly that close to the sun because it's too hot. I was upset, because my astronautical dreams were crushed.

+Which hand do you use for drawing?
Right. Which hand do I use to smudge for shading etc.? Both. Which hand do I use to pick my nose? NONE OF YOUR DAMN BUSINESS! >8C

+Which is easier to draw - male or female?
I think I suck with both equally. I only make my women look like women by drawing fem eyes and boobies. ; n;

+Which is easier to draw - long hair or short hair?
Both are actually pretty fun to think up and draw.

+Is it easier to draw the head facing towards the right or the left?
I'd say it's about the same, but for some reason, especially when I doodle, I tend to draw profiles facing to the left.

+Is it easier to draw the side view of the face or the front view?
Both are about the same to me, what is difficult is drawing the head from anywhere other than eye-level.

+What do you have problems in drawing?
Proportional anatomy, anatomy in general, backgrounds, foreshortening, varying features to differentiate characters, perspective, the list can go on and on...

+What do you like to draw?
I like to draw people the most, like I said before, backgrounds are tough for me. I did some still life work last semester and it was pretty tough. What upsets me the most is it's hard to draw something stylistically if you have no grasp on the object realistically, so I think that's where my real problem is. I've always drawn cartoons, and have had hardly any experience with realistic figure drawings, still lifes, backgrounds. Blahhhhh...

+Are you a traditional artist or a digital artist?
Definitely a traditional artist. My encounters with a tablet include seeing them in boxes at a BestBuy and visiting my friend's dorm room to watch her put together my CSS. ; u;

+Where do you start drawing from?
Depends on the focus of something really. If it's a person in general I'll start with a circle and jaw drawing for their head. If the pose of what they're doing is more important I'll draw the curve of the spine or an action line indicating the flow of they're doing. If it's an object I'll usually just sketch out it's general shape.

+What is your drawing habit that you are aware of?
I tend to make the expressions I'm drawing. I stick my tongue out when I'm really focused, and I generally tend to cross my left leg and tuck it underneath the nook created by my right leg's "under knee" or whatev, when I'm sitting.

+What do you keep in mind when you do lineart?
"...my hand's shaking again..." *stops to stretch hands and continues*

+Any tips for coloring/shading?
Color and shading is just as important as the drawing itself. Historically, artists have fought over whether line or color was more important, but I think that they can't live without one another.

+How long does it take to finish a piece of art?
Depends on what I'm working on. I've been known to pull a crummy 10 page comic out of my ass in about a day's time, but if I'm really trying, a page of comicking takes me about 3-5 hours. Pin up drawings are generally about the same. A few hours. More often than not, I'll work on a piece like that for a couple hours, leave it sitting a few days, and come back to color it another day.

Or was that a simile? ...and to think I got college credit for English in high school. <__<;

Wow, music these days is really crappy. Catchy, but the lyrics half the time are totally pointless and/or slut-tastical~! Lady Gaga...that sounds like a friggin' dog's name. Or a baby trying to speak.

I'm ranting again, geez. I need to stop doing that. My contacts are the wrong prescription, so I can't even read what I'm typing if I sit up straight in this chair. I can't read the pizza orders at work either unless I squint. FFFFfffff! I saw two movies last week. "Defiance" and "Slumdog Millionaire", and both were really good when it came to plot and acting. >83 then again what's not to like about Nazis getting blasted, right? That's the reason Call of Duty and Medal of Honor games are so popular I guess.

I need to start watching cartoons again, I haven't watched a good series for a while now. Any recommendations?

So yesterday was my day off. I've been working a lot this week, filling in for people at work that call in sick, staying later to help close the store, etc. so I greatly enjoyed the resting time.

I finished reading the graphic novel "A History of Violence", and recommend it. It's definitely not for people that are like "Yay~ MANGA ANIME I ONLY READ COMICS FROM JAPAN~", which I will admit bothers me about some fanatics out there. If you are to truly consider yourself an artist, let alone a comic book artist, you have to take in more influences than just one genre alone (or series for some < A> ). I find it funny that although my father has been working for construction/cable contractors since he was 17, he has given me some of the best artistic advice to me growing up. He taught me simple things as a kid like "Talena, you need to learn how to color in the lines. Slow down!" and "If you push too hard on your pencil like that, you'll never be able to erase the marks it leaves." and not to mention the very true "The only way to write good stories is to read and learn from good ones." so he'd take my brother and I to the library a lot as children and I'd probably check out about 15 books at a time.

If only he had the means and money to attend college, my father would've probably been a professional artist. Hell, even my mother wanted to be an architect but couldn't afford the art supplies in college growing up in a dirt poor family, so became a nurse instead.Then again, since my pops didn't go to college, he ended up marrying his Bolivian penpal that moved to the states, and had 2 children. So I really can't complain about being born.

Yes, this is another ranting journal, just because I've got time to burn and I actually wanna preserve my thoughts in these damn things.

People have known me as an emotionally distant person. I don't cry a lot. On average I probably cry about once every 2-3 months, and it's rare for me to cry watching a movie unless I really enjoy it. And yesterday was such a day. I saw a movie called "Seven Pounds", and I know a lot of people haven't even heard of it, but it was a very strong and emotional film. Here's a trailer:[link] but that's something else I highly recommend. I was sobbing like a baby... xD Then again, Will Smith is a great actor. At least, in my opinion he is.

Working on Tribulations has made me realize how large a character Asuka has become. When I first created her, I thought she'd just be another side character, someone I could use to further Keiko's own characteristics. She was the "foil character", but now when I open my art filing cabinet, the folders containing Asuka art are the fattest, and it makes me laugh heartily. What I thought was a villain, a killer, a heartless woman ended up becoming a hero, a savior, and someone that harbored inexpressible love for others. Funny how things change over time.

I once drew a picture of some of my characters coming out of me (it's in my gallery somewhere), and it's an actually rather true piece. Each character is a representation of something I see inside myself. It's the other reason I created Asuka. Like Keiko, I had a darker past compared to how I live my life now in the present. I'm childish. I'm a generally carefree and happy individual, but I eventually found myself slipping into darker tendencies and thoughts every once in a while. Thus, Asuka was born into my subconscious. Much like people with their shoulder angel and devil, Keiko and Asuka are the representatives for myself.

Blah blah blaaaaah...are you still here? I wonder if you are. My brother often speaks a lot and when I lose interest I'll tell him I've stopped paying attention, and instead of getting upset he'll say "Fine, I wasn't talking to you anyway, I was talking to the wall." and he'll actually turn to talk to the wall.

I need to get a hair cut. Something rather short....but truth be told I'm actually rather afraid to. Cutting my hair short is a phobia I harbored ever since I cut it in middle school. It was ugly, unmanageable, and ruined my self-esteem. In all honesty I've blocked out everything that happened when I was in middle school. I have faint memories of some occasions, but I can't remember names, face, zip, zilch. Concerning life, it's been okay. The least my parents have done for me concerning my grades is not kick me out of the house, so for that I am grateful. I finished playing Persona 4 and it was one of the best RPGs ever. I was so dedicated to the last boss, that I didn't care that I spent almost 2 hours dying repeatedly towards the end of the fight just to get 'er done.

I saw two crappy films in the past two days, so I'm hoping I'll have time later this week to go to the movies and actually see a good one, instead of dad's crappy choices in rentals, lol.

I've gotten out of my depression. Probably because I've confronted my parents about my problems. I'm feeling artistically inclined as of late, but don't expect updates until next time, cos I'm running out of time this visit.

I am tired of living my life in constant fear and uncertainty. I'm tired of having no self confidence. I'm tired of lying. My existence can be so much more than this. I know it can. I have the intelligence dammit, but I don't have the will. I don't understand why I keep letting this happen. In all honesty, I absolutely get excited when school starts. I love to learn! I love to show people that I'm doing well in school, but for some reason, as soon as I'm a mere block away from the finish line I stop. It's always like this. For everything I do.

I stop right when it means the most.

I've had enough of this crap. As soon as my dad returns from his work out of state, I need to tell my folks about my grades and get all this over with. I know they won't believe me when I'll say I'm going to change. I've used that excuse far too much. I might get kicked out of my house for being such a terrible student and a free-loader. I don't care what happens any more...I just want to be an artist...I just want to graduate with a diploma that says "Take this girl seriously, because she's an art major." I want to live my childhood dreams, instead of spending my life living in childish behaviors. I spent my past drawing pictures...but now it's time to draw the designs of my own destiny.

Work was a killer this week. For some strange reason we made more pizzas on Friday than we did on Halloween last year, and that's supposed to be our busiest day of the year. Something like 415? I dunno, it was nuts. I work part-time at a Papa Murphy's take and bake by the way. My part-time is spanned over 2 days though, so I'm usually pooped after schooling and promptly standing on my feet for like 8-9 hours after that on Fridays. xD;

Le'see...what else. Oh, I should also express my apologies for not submitting for the final round of *OCBC tribulations 2. I have about 3 pages done, but I really wanted to finish, so it'll just have to wait until school's done too.

Yes, I'm aware that's a buttload, but then again....I'm a sucker for punishment.

On a different note, I finished watching an anime series titled "Haibane Renmei", and highly enjoyed it. It wasn't a stereotypical anime where the women were all scantily clothed and constantly delivering fan service either. The plot was deep and involving, so I watched every episode wondering "What the heck is going on?" just anticipating the slightest explanations to piece together the story. Heh, I find it funny though. I don't think I could be a good anime critic, 'cos I always end up finding some redeeming qualities in everything.

Also, I'm currently addicted to the game "Persona 4". It's an RPG, and reminds me of dating sims somewhat. xD
I blame ~Minooki...but she was right, it's addictive. I find the fighting system more dynamic to something found in the Final Fantasy Series. 0:

Now that the weather is all warm and shining here, the university girls are transforming into "skanky-clothes-mode", my dad can't even drop me off for Biology in the afternoon without going "...IS THAT LEGAL? D8>"

This is another one of those journals that jumps around randomly, cos it's how I cope with stress...and I just made that up. Cos I'm a terrible liar.

Talena, why are your sentences broken off from one another like they're paragraphs? Didn't you learn that paragraphs are 3-5 sentences on average? ...I got a C in English. ...That's just cos your lazy. Dx Shhh...I know.

You ever notice I use ellipsis way too much? Yeah, it's cos that's how my brain actually works. Everything is always unfinished. Half the time in real life, I don't speak in coherent sentences. I think I'm starting to develop a speech impediment too, it's rather sad.

If you haven't stopped reading this yet, you get a gold star. That right there, that's some dedication. I'm so proud. If I was your mommy I would pat you on the head and give you an oreo. I don't think I'd make a very responsible mother come to think of it. Knowing me, I'm gonna end up acting like kid until my bones ache and I kick the bucket.

I went on this blind date activity thing for church last Saturday. It only took half an hour before the other couples were complaining that their cheeks hurt so bad from smiling and laughing. That makes me happy. Making other people laugh and smile makes me so happy. Happier beyond all reason. I don't know why. I don't give half a care about myself sometimes. I bet that's not good at all. Humans are all about self-preservation, and taking care of themselves, but I'm that strange individual that runs into the line of fire and takes that bullet cos I think the other person would live so much happier than me. Which makes me happy. Which makes no sense. Moving On.

I'm just gonna keep talking about myself, is that selfish? Selfish almost sounds like shellfish. :\ Seafood is good, but it's expensive here. Some people may think I live in the middle of a desert, but I live about a 15 minute drive from California, so my house is near mountains. I miss traveling. My family and I used to travel a lot in the summers. I've been to the Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon in the same day. Sometimes, out of curiosity, I map out the roads to take to visit online friends. I know I've never met them in real life before, but...there's just something about particular people that makes me so loyal and dedicated to them. It's a very strong feeling. I honestly would take a bullet for those people. And if you know who you are, and you just smiled, then you're probably one of them.

What are your goals in life? Everyone's gotta have goals right? If you don't then you may find yourself floating though life like your looking for something. My goals are fairly simply. They haven't changed since I was 5 in fact. I once toddled over to my aunt at that age and said "Auntie Bev, when ah grow up ah'm gonna live in San Francisco, be an artist, and own a dog! : D" Truth be told, I'd really want to go to an art school in San Fran, but I can't afford it. Maybe someday. My goals also including publishing a comic, visiting Japan and possibly other East Asian countries, getting married preferably to someone that's adorkable and just as amazingly nerdy as me, being a kickass mom that drives donuts in the car before dropping her kids off and school and hanging up their homework on the fridge even if it's a B, and making the world just a little bit cooler due to my existence.

Are you still there? Dayum, that's some REAL dedication. Lotsa people don't like to read these days. Remind me to include you in my will someday...or something.

Y'know, I still haven't gotten to the 17 random facts that I promised in the title huh? Let's get that outta the way.

I dunno why I do this to myself, but I keep entering OCTs and making plans for ones in the future. Maybe I'm an addict. Or maybe...maybe I'm just stupid.

Ah well, people can be convincing. I need the practice anyway. I've come to realize that I only seem to improve if I feel like I'm competing with someone. It's weird, maybe I see a lot of friends as artistic rivals and have to prove myself to them or myself, or something.

I'm rambling, forgive me.

I was called to be a teacher at church yesterday. Yes, I know. Suprising no? Me teaching. Kinda funny. And yes, I'm religious, but open-minded, so leave me alone. = 3=

I'm kinda nervous about it though. Now I'll really have to schedule my time wisely by doing homework during the week, working my job on the weekends, and having enough time to prepare decent lessons before church on Sunday...and with all this crap to do, my child-self asks from the inside "Buh when will thar be time fur drawring? >:"

My coughing isn't going away. It's been about three weeks now. I bet it's bronchitis, but I'm so sick of going to the doctor that I'm in denial and refuse to go. Not the smartest strategy...

Talena, have you been working on anything at all? When are you gonna finish your unfinished stories?

All in good time I think. I'm still uneasy and overwhelmed right now, but I am working on drawing from time to time. Also, some things to look forward to: I'm entering SDL:T held by *ryuuen with Rei's descendant and already working on refs and ideas for OCBC4...which I assume is in the summer or something.

I never stop drawing...it's sad. My grades have always been barely enough to get me by since 8th grade. I think it's because that's when I started drawing again, and haven't stopped since then. :<

Also, I think I'm addicted to talking to people on the net. Imma try and cut back, so if it seems like I'm not around or ignoring, it's only because I'm trying to get my life outta the shitter....or something.

Heh, my first cover ever. Of course I was proud of it. This round has a lot of memories, and I find it funny that my opponent has now become one of my closest friends ever. Even if my parents have told me many a time over that OCBC is "just a waste of time", I can see that it was through OCBC I made a lot of great friends and grew a lot artistically.


Also a laughable moment, I remember I was nervous on how to draw action scenes, cos I've never done it before. I can still recall pouring over animes and watching sequences over and over just to sketch the gestures out. At the time, I thought Eclaire flipping here was cool. hahaha~


Ryoku’s anatomy isn’t totally retarded, wooo. In all honestly, I really need to practice anatomy. It sucked back then, and it sucks still. The only thing i found that's improved over time are hands. xD


One of the few backgrounds I'm truly proud of.




Sometimes writing character dialogue for a character that isn't mine is hard. It's difficult to place yourself in the mind of a creation that you may know little about, personality wise, background wise, etc. I find it the most enjoyable when I draw my own characters interacting with each other.

I cried when I scripted Keiko's flashback to Asuka's death. It must've just hit me emotionally I guess because I got so into character.

This is the only colored page in a comic aside from a cover. And it also happens to be the panel where I try to convey what greater purpose my main characters have, that they're not just humans, but humans with the souls of Gods.

It's icy as heck today, and because of the snow my dad took mom to work, and me to schoolio. We stopped at a gas station for hot chocolate and a donut each, and right as I walk out the gas station...

Me:*opens car door and immediately drops donut* SON OF A-!
Dad:...
Me:*doesn't say anything and continues to look down at donut laying on slushy and gross asphalt*
Dad and Me:...
Dad: Talena, you're not going to try and eat that.
Me:...damn. |C

Once we drop off mom, Dad just goes into "Imma say what I want" mode.

We continue driving...

Dad: What's up with that?
Me: Hmm? *looks around until she notices a morbidly obese woman in furs and vibrant colors waddling down the street*

Dad: Is THAT what that is?

*Dad sees an asian girl walking*
Dad: AH SOOooo~

Yeah...good times with dad. He's in a pretty good mood despite not having work today due to weather issues. But at least he's had work. I'm thankful for that. These are some rough times indeeeeeed.

I finally finished Okami~ The ending was kinda anti-climactic, but overall that game kicked some major arse. Oh, and I watched the final episode to Witchblade, the ending was kinda rushed as well and expectable after a certain point, didn't make me cry but I did go "Bawww...dat's sad."

Midterms are next week, so studies are fast approaching to "high priority" levels. Drawings are gonna be slow, and goodness knows if my entry will even be decent at this point. = w=

Also, WHO DECLARED MARCH THE MONTH WITH ALL THE BIRTHDAYS!? HMMMMM? lol

I have a few "Reprogramming" 4komas sketched up, so those'll be uploaded soon. I feel seriously unmotivated at the mo', and wish I had a pet cat to use as a drawing ref cos i realize how much I suck at drawing them. xD;

Little known fact: Asuka/TK have loose ties to my Uncle Carl. A smoker. A drinker. And former owner of a black cat named after that crazy Japanese girl in Kill Bill GoGo. xD He's like...the only remotely badass dude I know. Lol~

Hey, the best way to get comic drawing experience is practice. And I can honestly say one of the best ways to practice, is to push yourself in a OC tourney.

BUT WAIT! Before you leave, stay with me for a sec. This kinda tourney is different. Are you:
-worried that you don't have time for a 10-round tournament?
-wanting to join but are worried you're not "good enough"?
-have nothing better to do?
-or some other random reason for joining this contest?

Then join OCBC's Tribulations tournament~ - 16 fighters, 4 rounds, any level of skill welcome. All you need to do is:

Maybe I'm getting stressed out... A lot of homework is due today that I haven't completely finished. I have a test. An art project is also due that I haven't started. I just realized that I'm going to be awake for at least 20 more hours...

Also, work on my OCBC entry has been terribly slow, because parental sentry has been at an all time high. Dad is practically laid off. We don't have any money. I'm running out of art supplies, and time--

xD I feel like such a pessimist. But I think it's just been awhile since I've been down like this, so it's overdue...

I don't think I've ever spent so much time on drawing in my life. When this started during the winter break it was all fine and dandy because I had all the time in the world to draw...now all my classes are going into test mode and I'm a little nervous to see if I can provide a conclusion cool enough to end this tourney with.

I know, let me ramble about things I've been doing.

I haven't been watching a lot of things recently, but I have almost finished Witchblade, I'm just waiting for the last couple episodes to show up on my OnDemand menu. I rather like it, despite hard crits. It's not always as jam-packed full of action as people might assume, a lot of it is just about Masane and her relationship with her daughter. It's an emotional anime, but it's really sweet. Makes me think how families aren't always the "perfect cookie cutter model", but all that's really important is the love people have for one another to make it work.

I watched Burn After Reading the other day with my folks, which was about 3 outta 5 stars I guess, and it was strange because of any actor i had to feel sorry for in that movie it had to be Brad Pitt, but that's what happens when every other character in the plot is sleeping with someone else or one another. D|

Also I can't get Utada Hikaru's song "Be my last" out of my head. [link]

I've been talking with a lot, she and I have become AsuClaire addicts and plot future projects and blah blah. So look forward for more stuff in the BIATCH department after OCBC is over for me. :\

I'm still playing Okami, and i must say it's one of the best games i've ever played. Environments are gorgeous, and the story is a lot longer than i ever anticipated. It's starting to take me as long as a Final fantasy game to finish @A@

I wish i could play in the snow here...but my lungs are very sensitive, and it's just a hassle walking outside. ; w;

The only reason I call a lot of my journals "Broken Keyboard" is because of the fact that I type them up at the university's library. The keyboards at the computers here always end up broken in some way so I have to physically abuse the shift key to make it work...


This week has been filled with strange occasions where I've stopped to contemplate just how much human beings depend on one another's kindness. Kinda weird, but most people are usually unaware just how much it affects our lives. For example, having someone shove the elevator door back open again because you're trying to catch it before it leaves, offering your seat only to stand up in the incredibly crowded bus to let a feeble old lady have somewhere to sit, being late to class because you took the time to help a blind girl find her way, having someone offer you a pen when you seem to have dropped your own somewhere during the day, picking up money you see falling out of someone's pocket and giving it back to them, failing on your way up the stairs and having someone help you up only to trip a few seconds later to have them helping you up yet again, buying someone something when you know that you yourself are having financial problems, smiling at someone who seems to be having a hard day...I could go on and on... :\

Anyway, I'm not really sure what point I'm trying to get across. I don't even think I'm making a point, I'm probably just saying things that everyone has already heard before. Thing is, it doesn't hurt to hear things like this over and over again. It's good to be reminded that even during our harshest times it's easier to give, and show through example that we love one another.

On a random thought, I've been looking through people's galleries a lot lately and came to realize that I'm not the same person I was when I first joined dA. When I first started to make comic friends, as green as it may make me seem, I would compare myself to the works of others. I admired many (and still do), and sought to get better just to prove something to myself, and maybe them, I guess...but I realize, now that a couple years have passed, that I was stupid. Over time my desires to become better than others changed into short-time, humbler goals. I just wanted to improve in general. I think that sometimes one can lose sight of what's really important when participating in competitive drawing, if you know what I mean...like you over-stress yourself because you want to be better than someone else. But truth be told, all artist's have different styles, ways of manipulating their ideas to take physical form. No one is the same. No one is perfect. I like that about people. I like that when I see work in galleries of different people, it's almost like entering into an entire universe in itself. That's powerful stuff you know?

Maybe I'm just being silly...

Gwah...I feel terrible. I forgot my brother's birthday. If he reads this: Happy Birthday~ I love you very much

Man, I feel so bad. Even though i got round 3 to tribulations done, it was so rushed...I wish i could've done better. Forgive me MA. Mozy was definitely not given enough justice, let alone appearance in that comic. TT ATT

That and there are still gaps in the friggin' story that haven't been filled in yet. DAMN YOU! LAZINESS!

I'm also running low on supplies. We have no paper in the house besides the lil' pieces i found, and they're too small in my opinion...(hand cramps! Dx ) Also, my important pens are running dry. Will Dad take me to the store? No. = A=

Sorry this journal isn't of any real purpose, or of anything important, but my head's in a fog waking up early today and sometimes writing helps me clear it up.

The Random Facts That You May or May Not Have Wished to Know About My Original Characters!

Pick a few of your OCs and then write 5 (or more) random facts about them that a lot of people may not know. Simple right? RIGHT?! D:<


1. Keiko
- Is the daughter to a Japanese man and an American woman.
- Was born in America, but raised in Japan.
- Knows several languages including Japanese, English, Spanish, Korean, German, and Duck.
- Is a secret otaku.
- Is actually a pervert, but will never admit it.

2. Ryoku
- Is also a perv, but is kinda blatant about it.
- Can transform into a fox, a chibi fox, and semi-demon form.
- Sleeps outside most of the time.
- Is very flirtatious.
- Has two fox tails due to a gene mutation. (FREAK!>: D)

3. Hana/ Shiki
- As the name demonstrates, are basically the same person, because they are based off of the same person in real life.
- Is the most destructive of the four main characters in my comic.
- Is the true master of fire. Mentored by both Ryoku and Keiko, she still holds the greater proficiency of the art of fire wielding.
- Both characters have amnesia about their pasts.
- Has a huge scar on the right side of her torso.

4. Rei
- Actually gets depressed when drinking and likes to be alone when she does.
- Prefers to fight with her sword sheathed ever since she killed her first man.
- Ogles people left and right.
- Enjoys fighting with Hana for the laughs.
- Dislikes her fox mask because it makes her face itch.

5. Asuka
- Has an addiction to pancakes.
- Likes to crack jokes, even when she's NOT drunk xD.
- Only falls asleep if sleeping next to another person.
- Hates the cold.
- Is a D-cup, hence she's often nicknamed "The BIATCH agent of very sexy boobies".
