So...a good chunk of you are likely wondering if I've fallen off the face of the earth.

Never fear! I do exist!

I haven't done traditional art for a while--haven't been really inspired. Got an idea once but it didn't come out on paper like it did in my head. Will have to try again.

Been pretty busy at work--I do application support for proprietary tax and accounting software. My most "omg noob" call so far went something like this. This guy was having a cookie issue, and didn't want to lose his saved passwords, so I had to guide him through manually deleting the specific offenders. I could immediately tell that he wasn't very apt at computers because I had to go very slowly and be very specific about what I wanted him to do. No big deal--most CPAs and attorneys don't really know anything about computers. However, he was unable to find the cookies he needed, so I said:

Me: "Ok, so we need to search again."
Him: "Where's the Again button?"

So far, everyone I've spoken to, even non-techies, believe that to be absolutely hilarious.

In other news, part of my extended absence was related to multiple trips out of state. My maternal grandmother passed away on July 5 due to complications from a medical procedure. I spent the first weekend of July there to help my mother and to be there while my grandmother was passing, and then the second weekend for the service. Unfortunately I had to fly back up in between for work. (No PTO, not even for bereavement.)

My grandmother was a fantastic person and I didn't truly appreciate all of her different aspects until later on. We lived with her when I was a little girl and back then all I saw was a very strict person. Going back to visit her after I grew up, I saw so many different sides of her that I never knew about. She was full of life and laughter, extremely talented in the arts, and above all she had such a deep compassion for every living thing. She had always seemed so reserved until I spent some time with her in 2007--she saw me suffering and she demanded that I never accept second best. It had seemed so out of character from my understanding of her, so that's why it stuck with me and resonated. Honestly, it proved to be a life-changing statement, so for that I will always be thankful to her. I wish I could tell her how much that moment meant.

Her service was small and attended by people that I know truly loved her. She was cremated and scattered along Sanibel Island--it was her favorite place.

We've discovered hundreds of pieces of her watercolor and original sketches that we never knew about. My family has decided to make a project of scanning all these in and posting them somewhere (probably Flickr, for the fact that you can have a low-res and then a high-res version only for specific people) so that her talent will live on. My aunt and I each have a few books to scan. I'll let you all know when it's up--then once it is, I'll have you note me for the URL.

Hey! I am reporting to you from my newly imaged Windows 7 Beta partition. (I still have XP...just in case.)

...I must admit I'm quite impressed so far! A lot of the features that made Vista a pain in the @$$ have either been toned down or are generally speaking more customizable. It's still visually nice like Vista, but I'm finding it a lot more intuitive, and they've completely redone the Start bar. It's nifty. Also, notifications aren't nearly so annoying, and the default desktop for the beta is...a betta! I found it adorable. XD

Could it be? Can Microsoft actually make a decent product?!?! We'll find out once the official Windows 7 is released, but my vote is that it's at least half-decent!

(May I note that for all my Microsoft-ripping, it is actually Microsoft that pays my bills via its certifications. So there.)


SPEAKING of jobs...I may be getting a beautiful wonderful awesome desktop support position for a small company in Chicago soon! Cross your fingers everyone!

Lately, I've been watching how strangers interact with each other. Since I work in downtown Chicago I get plenty of opportunity to watch social dynamics. You'd be amazed at some of the things people do. Some openly display jealousy and aggression, while others are the epitome of peace and grace. It is this diversity that allows us to function as a whole.

Strangers can be a source of inspiration. Several months ago, a random stranger told me I was beautiful. A few weeks ago, over a half dozen strangers asked me if I was OK when my ankle gave out and I fell. Just last week, someone said "You have beautiful hair--I love the color". It's these little things that really make the difference. These people had no hidden agenda behind doing what they did--they knew full well they'd likely never see me again. Yet they did it anyway. To this day I remember their kindness, and I'll continue to remember it.

So, if you honestly like something, speak up! It could make someone's day. Or week or month. It could be the kindest thing they've heard all year. We have one life--would you rather spend it spreading happiness or misery? I love making people happy, so my answer is easy. What about you?

Hi guys!

Sorry it's been so long since I've updated. I didn't really think I had anything to update, but thinking back on it a lot has really happened! I guess I've been so busy that I didn't even realize it!

First and foremost, I'VE GOT MY CREATIVITY BACK!!! Bwahahaha! I've done three traditional pieces within the past month, which once I get around to scanning, I promise you all get to see them! One is also intended to be a collab between me and my #1 fan I'm sure everyone will be happy with my creations. And if you aren't, well, I am so nah lol.

As you can see I've also gotten a lot cheerier. This has been nearly a permanent state since the end of April. Part of the reason being...

Well, I'll reveal that later. I'm going out of the state Thursday to visit someone very special to me, let's put it that way. I'm so damn happy! (It's almost worrisome how happy. Almost.)

In order to pull the whole out-of-state thing off, I need to work 7-6 Monday through Wednesday to recover some of those hours. I'll have to be out the door before 5:30 and won't get home until almost 8 PM! I know I'll be exhausted, so I'm doing my packing and cleaning this weekend. Now if only I weren't slacking off typing this journal entry...

Further, apparently I've gotten more confident, as recently I picked up two dresses that I would have never picked up before. One is an aquamarine, flowy, spaghetti strap type dress and the other is bright orange. Normally I hate orange, but they combined it with red in such a nice, fiery way and it just looks really nice. I am proud that I'm becoming more bold. I know my fashion sense is a little too conservative. (While I'm out of state I'm going to get to flaunt a beautiful cobalt blue halter top. Bwahaha. ^_^ )

So in a nutshell, I am doing fan-frickin-tastic and not in a sarcastic way .

Another respiratory thing. Sometimes I really just want to rip my blasted lungs out. It's been a whole month since I've been sick. I get so dizzy sometimes it's hard to walk straight. I wonder if the cops here in Chicago think I'm drunk (or those creepy people think I'm an easy target).

I start a new job Monday in downtown Chicago. I'll be taking the train to get there every morning (no excuse to be late!). It's with Accenture doing technical support for learning management systems. Yay!

I remember making an update a loooong looong time ago (July 06) letting you all know I had scoliosis (in case you don't know, basically the back curves in a way it's not supposed to). So I figured I'd actually keep you all updated as sort of a project.

Back in October I went to see an orthopedic surgeon to try to figure out what to do with my back, but he was a total quack and I will never see this physician again. However, he did place me on three prescriptions, one being Flexeril (a muscle relaxer), Naprelan (an anti-inflammatory given also to arthritis patients), and Vicodin (we all know what this one does). Lately over the past couple months the pain has been getting worse and worse to the point where it's affecting my breathing and daily life. Sometimes I can do nothing but lay there, in so much pain I want to die, for a few hours until it lessens after taking Vicodin. (I don't want to die, please don't take this as me being suicidal, it's just so bad and I'm so tired of dealing with it. So tired.)

I received a referral from one of the dynamic duo at to go to a doctor in Chicago who happens to be a member of the Scoliosis Research Society. He's apparently known for taking the cases that no one else wants to touch (due to age, laziness, I don't know why the fuck these doctors won't fix it when I'm in so much pain). I've decided to see this doctor (the initial consultation being Jan. 29th) and if I feel he can really help me, I'm going to get surgery by him. I'm going to need surgery sooner or later, and I might as well do it sooner while I'm young and can heal easily, and I don't have any kids or anything to take care of.

The surgery is going to be a big thing and I know I'm not watched by many, but it is significant and I figured you all should be kept updated. Just being open about it in a way is supportive and makes me freak out less. So nyah lol.

This is one of the original x-rays from my chiropractor from July 2006. Because of the curvature at that time, and the amount of time it's been since the x-ray, I can comfortably say that my upper curve is worse than this now. This is the view as if you were looking at my back from behind (so the curve goes toward and kind of digs into my right shoulderblade). This curve is measured at 52 degrees deviation. There is another curve in my lower spine but the x-rays absolutely refused to cooperate with my scanner. That curve was measured at 39 degrees. I will be obtaining MRIs from October in preparation for seeing this new Chicago doctor, so I'll see for myself how much worse it's gotten.



Icky huh? Sorry if I've disturbed any of you folks. CHECK YER KIDS (if and when you should have them) FOR SCOLIOSIS!! Don't let them end up like me!! (Sorry the scan looks kind of poor quality, it's hard to scan those suckers.)

So anyway that's what's going on with my back. If I like this new doctor sometime within the next few months or whenever he recommends it I'm going to undergo surgery to correct the two curves. I'll give you all every little detail, just to gross you out. :3 lol I'm joking. But I will give you all details.

More on this issue after the 29th! I'm both excited and scared to see what this new doctor has to say. I just want some answers and for the pain to stop, that's all.

Wow, I haven't updated since August?? Shame on me!

Um, not much to report, except today I got another tech certification! This is not a Microsoft certification, this is the CompTIA A+ certification, IT Technician designation. But now that that's over it's back to good old Microhack certifications for meeee! Needs me some mo' money!! Three more exams until the MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) certification. Once I get that I can get a job making the big bucks and can move the hell out of my little apartment! I mean, it serves my purpose, but it's really embarassing fighting off roaches when you have guests. >.> MCSE means you have to pass seven tests in total, of which I've passed four. It's hard work!! I had to pass just one to get MCP, three more for a total of four for MCSA, and two CompTIA exams for the A+ certification. So, that means I've passed six tests so far for my certifications. After I do the MCSE I could either start doing more CompTIA certifications (Server+, Network+, Security+ probably) since they're not vendor-specific, or I could do the upgrade path to Server 2008 to keep my skills current. I'm not sure what I want to do yet.

But that was probably WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much tech talk for you guys. I'm sorry. This is my life. >.> This and rampant kittens!! The kittens are already over three months old. They all say hi. >^.^<

Enjoy my two new photos! I really have been hard pressed to find some decent artistic inspiration recently. I will be going out somewhere random tomorrow so I might return with either pictures of architecture or nature things lol. So stay tuned!!

Anyway I have as a gift to you patient people three--count them, three--deviations of the shiny goodness. Two were from last night and one from this morning, since I was up outrageously early (read: before 6 AM) for no real good reason. But tonight--I shall have fun! I'm actually going out for a change. With someone not related to me, even! (I'm so antisocial.)

Hi!!

I have a little surprise for you all, a traditional piece that kind of examines my drawing roots. Without giving anything away, there was one single influence that sparked me to want to draw humans, and that influence continues to be with me today.

I have decided that my next piece will pay homage to that history, and do something I haven't done in so long I have to reference my own work. (That's sad.)

Um...Hi!! I decided to add stamps and then I totally wasn't paying attention to the fact that I wasn't editing the old entry, so I was suddenly like "Aw, crap!!"

The kittens are doing very well, and pictures, I promise, are forthcoming. They're so CUUUUUUUUTTTEEEE!!!! I wanna keep them all. >.> (No, Stef. That means you will have 7 cats. You're not supposed to have any. Crazy cat lady.)

I will be getting another certification under my belt as soon as my exam voucher comes in. A+ certification is required for my job with Valcom, so I get my voucher and test. There's two guys that handle the vouchers, but for some reason vouchers tend to take a really long time for no apparent reason.

Anyway...boredom. Now off to see Princess Mononoke!!

I'm sorry for ignoring my page... >.>
But now, you all have a few pics from my house and from Busse Woods to stare at. So, have fun!
I'm quite fond of some of the pictures I came up with. Yay.

...but one got eaten because my computer freaked out on me all of a sudden. Unfortunately, I did not have an extra copy on my SD card. *pout* Now that shot's gone for all eternity.

But oh well. Such is life.

Life has been both quiet and busy, but good. I've been traveling all over the place, and really can't believe that I've had my car for a month and that I've had my license for less than 2 months. I've had my license for less than 2 months and I used to be terrified of driving. Now, I'm driving on I-90, 294, going to Freeport, Lake Forest, Buffalo Grove, anywhere I need to, whenever I need to. It's such a free feeling.

Work is also going well. Learning more everyday and so far, all of my bosses have been expressing how well they think I'm doing. Which is good. I'm also able to resolve more and more calls without having to ask someone else, which I also like. Occasionally, though, I do get a caller that seems to be speaking Indo-Chinese-Greek-Italian-Portuguese and I have to ask a coworker what the heck they're talking about. ('What? You want me to find someone to unlock a physical trailer for you??! This is tech support, not building maintenance!!' I thought once --that was a real call!)

Sasha, that emaciated little stray, is about a month pregnant with 3 to 4 kittens. She's not so emaciated any more, as her own muscle mass has improved and she's got an obvious little puff where her kittens are residing. She's been eating kitten food to help her gain her strength. Her kittens are going to be so adorable!! Expect plenty of photos once they arrive. Plenty.

Anyway, sleep is probably necessary, since I do work tomorrow. Night all.
