I'm still alive and well! I wish I was better at these journal things, but rest assured I'll be hiring a secretary to keep everyone updated in the future! So for now, eh, I'll do my bestest. You guys have been awesome as always, and the constant support and well-wishes through these trying times is appreciated. I'm in debt to you all. For those who aren't in the loop, a LOT has happened since we last talked. I was involved in a car accident a few months ago. I'm fine, no permanent damage. My car however, not as lucky. I'd like to take a moment of silence to remember all the good times. You are missed dearly...

Mythoi is out and about, and the new origin stories are making their way to your eyes very soon! It's getting bloodier by the panel peeps, and the guys at Semantink are getting as excited as I am about the newest issue! And guess what? The origin stories are FREE! It's been so much hard work, but its paying off. Check it out!

Among other things, my life is currently wrapped up in 4 boxes. I'm getting ready to move out on my own, and start forging my career as an illustrator. Getting that diploma this year has been a major milestone in my life goal, and I'm eager to face the "world". Not sure what that means really, since the world today revolves around Jon and Kate Gosselin's bowel movements. So, I'll be doing just that, only outside the comforts of the house I grew up in. Yay for getting older! And thank you media-world mongers, for constantly enlightening us with the wonderful world of celebrities! Not REAL actors (like Tom Hanks, Merly Streep, Denzel Washington, Russel Crowe, Johnny Depp, and Julia Roberts) but celebrities!


Commissions are still underway, and once things have settled with the Mythoi work, I'll be getting to them asap! God-willing, next week will also be catch-up week for art. I plan of taking my commissions up again full-force, and have been dying to get more challenges in from you guys and gals.


Titans comic. Yes, I want to finish it, but no, I dont know when the next will be done :/

Hi all!

Just here to announce my crazy-new summer job at Sea World! I'm training as a caricature artist. It's a fast-paced, exciting new style, and a way for me to expand my skillz! I'll post a schedule up every week for those brave enough to seek me out. There are different stands throughout the park, so I'll also include the attraction we'll be next to. I figure it'd be a great way to meet some of you guys and gals who have shown me such great support over the last 2 years! In light of the many new watchers, I thought I'd re-introduce myself!

My name is Jed Soriano, and I am currently working as a freelance graphic designer. I'm a graduate of the Art Institute, San Diego-CA, and in the market for steady studio work. I established myself here on DeviantArt in August of 2007, and have been blessed with a fanbase that continues to grow to this day! Again, I can't thank you all enough (even though I make a conscious effort at every possible opportunity). "SeriojaInc" was a spin-off title of the name I first used here "Don Serioja" (in an attempt to keep a bit of anonymity). "Don Serioja" is just "Jed Soriano" scrambled, for those who haven't picked that up yet (like Lord Voldemorte, but without the evilness).

Personal info aside, on to the gallery!

I LOVE to draw. I am possibly addicted to it. Been doing it since I was 7. I consider myself a life-long student of art. As such, I've learned to embrace a myriad of styles, compositioning techniques, anatomies, and color palettes. I make no judgments on the works of others, and therefore expect the same respect returned to me. Yes I draw "expansion" art. Yes I draw "anime" art. Yes I draw "Disney" art. I draw people running, jumping, sitting, flying, floating, rollin', hugging, licking, ticking, loving, bugging, surfing, turfing, fighting, biting!

Why? For many many reasons! And some for no reason at all. Isn't that one of the great things about art? I draw to challenge myself above all other excuses. I draw because it's fun, and engaging, and gives me the opportunity to share my mind-movies. What I draw has very little to do with why I did it in the first place to be perfectly honest. I choose to explore the various subjects in order to stay up-to-date, and not "typecast" into any particular class of artist. Toss me into a situation, and I'll adapt, learn, absorb, replicate, improve, and continue to grow in my knowledge of the art world. That's the idea people. Its a planet full of art just waiting to be found! We can't afford to be too judgmental, lest we miss out on some fascinating new people and ideas. Let my work be an example of the many influences I've found, and a preview of the many more to come!

The 2-year mark is coming up pretty fast, and I've been very happy with how this "2-week experiment" has literally ballooned into this massive artistic under-taking which I'm happy to say has taken over my once boring life! Here's to another great start for 2009!

I have an updated list, but I want to be 1001% sure I haven't lost anyone in the runnings. For those who know me best, it's fair to say that the end of 2008 wasn't very nice to me schedule-wise...

SCREW IT!

It's the new year baby! And we're kicking it off with a BANG! Commissions and special prizes are still underway, and updates to the list will follow shortly (so don't be fooleded!). I hope everyone's new year's celebrations went well! Family, friends, the works over here! My little sister flew down from 'Frisco to be with us, so that was a treat! And I got to work on a "secret" comic project which I couldn't post on DA for some weird reasons. All I can say is that some have found it, so congrats to them! It'll be like a "Where in the World is Carmen SanDiego" for the rest of you! hehe! Games are fun!

The new school quarter started, my LAST at the Art Institute (WOOHOO!) I be gradiatin'! Coming full-force into the world as an accredited Graphic Designer! Kinda like pure-bred dogs needed papers, so do edumacated peoples! In any case, much excitement on this end of the screen.

Thanks again to everyone on DA for the crazy-cool milestone we just crossed! You guys make it all possible, and are the reason the art will keep coming! Yes, more Titans, yes more Lara, yes more old-school tributes, yes more school projects! Sadly, no requests. I'd never get sleep if I opened that can o' worms! But worry not,...yes more contests (can't say when just yet)!

The theme is simple:

OCs (Original Characters) on Halloween!

That's right, your OC(s) enjoying the Halloween festivities! I only ask they must be YOUR OCs and that whatever they are doing is appropriate for teens to look at :) Make it funny, make it spooky, make it whatever you want so long as its somehow screams its Halloween time! So, just to be clear:

Hello again everyone!

Its good to be back in ol' SoCal. I am so grateful for everyone's support during this time. I can't thank you all enough for all the best-wishes and kind words of encouragement.

The memorial service was very peaceful, almost a disappointment really on account of Mike's constant habit of making us laugh :) It reminded us that much more of how different life is gonna be without him. I stayed with our group for the duration of the trip, sharing stories and fond memories of Mike. The trip back felt that much longer, but did help settle a great deal of closure for this rough week.

Life goes on, but we should never forget those who left meaningful impressions. Mike certainly did that for all who knew him.

Comic-con was a blast! A bit intimidating being surrounded by all those DC/Marvel vets, but otherwise a true learning experience. This was my first convention appearance ever (as a presenter), so my sister and I were taking notes on presentation techniques and styles. Next year, we'll go for something even more dynamic! For those of you who don't know, I've appointed my sister as my manager, giving her control of marketing sales for print-work, and larger-scale projects. She's really good at what she does, not to mention an extremely gifted photographer as well!

hello!
For those that don't know, midterms are coming up again next week! yay! My visits online have indeed been very limited due to all the work I had to put into projects due for midterms. We seldom get tests, we get poster assignments. 80% of my classes this quarter are all hand-rendered-only work, which scale my project time from the usual 4-5 hours, upto 14+ hours! Back to the basics with prismacolor pencils and markers! Hopefully I can get these projects up here on DA, but they are much too big for my puny scanner. I'll need to scan them when I get to school next week. And don't worry, I've been working diligently on commissions throughout the week. I've also got the next titans page coming along plus another personal project in the works. Busy busy busy. I do apologize for my unexcused absence this last couple of weeks, but with all the work needing to be done, I had to set my priorities askew. I hope you all can understand! I should have the next 4 commissions done soon! As always, you guys are awesome, and thanks for the continued support!

Just a quick lil' update for everyone! Finals are just around the corner, and after the 15th of March, I'll be available to do commissions again! What can a guy say? I know its been a while since I've posted one of these, but hitting this mark has most certainly called for an update! Lots of you know how busy things have been, and the commissions have been closed far longer than originally anticipated. I'm planning to re-open them up in March, which should give me enough time to complete school projects and other personal projects laying in wait for me :) Looking forward to getting back into the groove of things! Hi all!
I don't think this week could get any busier! I kinda like being in all the time-constrained chaos, but at the same time, I'd feel much better about completing all the projects once my studies are behind me! Hi all!

It's been a while since an update/commission openings/art display. I'm currently attending the Art Institute in San Diego, and I've decided to switch my major from Game Art and Design to good ol' Graphic Design. I've been spending a lot of time browsing the net, talking to counselors, and preparing my schedule for next quarter as a Graphic Design student. While I'm thankful for the basic 3-d skills I've learned, I know I'll be much happier working in the 2-d conceptual realm. Greetings all!

First off, I'm glad things everywhere are getting back to normal and most of the fires have been (or are going to be) contained. In light of recent events I've been able to at least find myself with a lot of free time. It was time I used to hammer out commissions and comic pages and personal projects which I've been dying to get out! Yesterday started off like a normal day, and then I got this weird image in my head. Its a repeating daydream that occurs whenever I'm driving. And then replays again and again when someone cuts me off, or drives too slow (we're taking 20 in a 45 zone...oooohhh!!). I ask myself: "what if my Corolla could just stand up and toss these cars out of the way?" I spent most of the morning researching this possibility for a cartoon form, and came up with several concepts for my car. Honest to God I was scared at first, as I haven't done much "technical" drawing lately, and I had to teach myself how to draw robots again! Not to mention make it look like it was a car not too long ago! The result is "Torque"! 9hrs later...yikes! This was no walk in the park. Yet, a lot of fun to learn :D

I'll be experimenting with other car models (namely those of family and close friends) just to get things started. However, if you'd like me to turn your vehicle into your protector, I'm opening up a new commissions entry! Please note it will be a little pricey compared to what you're used to, but these transformations are huge undertakings. "Torque" was 1hr research, 3hrs to sketch/ink, 1hr to shade, 3hrs to color, and 1 more hr to clean up. Craziness! I can probably do about 6 a month before going insane lol! I've been getting several notes for requests and I apologize if I can't do these as requests (or any other requests for that matter), but I hope you understand!

That was the rant for today :) Or the commercial,..or whatever it was! :D You know I can't thank you guys and gals enough for your support! And if you haven't seen the movie yet, go right now and pick it up! Just leave without telling anyone, and don't let things like parents, or money, or mall security stop you! (j/k stay in school, drink milk, yadayadayada...) Take care til next time deviants!

Hi peeps!

Everything seems to be getting back to normal on my end. I'm leaving my car packed though, just in case the winds somehow change direction! I want to thank you all for your well-wishes and prayers through this difficult time. I'm going to continue praying for the safety and recovery of others still being affected by this tragedy.

As you can see, lots of commission orders can this week! All payments thus far have been confirmed, and orders will be done in order of the payment's arrival! As I begin this journal entry, I hear 2 fire engines rushing down the main road of Valley Center. Hmmm...Draws a little concern. In any case, I hear some of my neighbors have moved back, and that the fire seems to be pushing north, away from our home. However we are still on high alert (and I will stay up tonight on watch once more) and our vehicles are still packed as ever ready to go. I was able to leave the house today for the first time in 5 days and stocked our pantry back up with fluids and goodies which should last another week in case anything unexpected should happen. Things are at least looking up...even if its just a little "up". I'll be strapping myself in to finish up the commissions tonight, so I can get to working on the next Titans pages tomorrow! Hi all!

Well, as some of you may know, there's a stream of fires attacking the southern end of California. Where am I in all this? Smack dab in the center, armed with nothing but my silky boxers, a wife-beater, and a garden hose! Everything is still on stand-by as we haven't got our evacuation notice yet. I just smuggled my computer out of my fully-packed Toyota Corolla to let you guys know what the skinny is. I apologize to any commissioned works that I promised this week, as they may be put on hold depending on how the next 24 hours fares. I hope you guys can understand.
