Well, we're only 2 weeks (and a few days) away from the convention, and things are starting to gear up. The programming's really starting to fall into place, thanks to a few pots of coffee and some creative shuffling by our Programming Director. We've got a good mix of offerings this year, including some hands-on workshops, discussion panels, social gatherings and instructional demos.

Our Weapons Panel is back once more, with a few new additions this year, and the chocolate social looks to be an even bigger sugar rush on friday night.

We've got some absolutely great guests this year, including Mark Oakley, of Thieves and Kings fame, Julie Czerneda, a noteworthy (and inspiring) author in the Sci-fi genre with a keen sense of character and humor, and last but certainly not least, MissMonster Mel, whose costumes and sculpture are simply breathtaking. I'm already working out my weekend, so I can attend their panels.

Our Art show and Dealers rooms are filling out nicely, though there's still some space left. Returning favorites (allow me a fan moment here) include:
~dhstein
*Hbruton
~auroralockwood
~nalina
....and those are just people off my friends list!

So yeah. My brain's going all nervous and bouncy, but it's coming together.
There's 27 of them, so I'll likely go in 2-3 batches, so as not to totally flood people.

Also, I must get more bags to package these things in. I apparently only had 50 on hand, and there's 30 more pieces to get packd up. Yay!

I'm getting back to normal.

Thestudying's overwith, and that in itself is a long annoying story, but the end result is, things are alright.

I'm going to college in the fall, for my Vet tech certification. Got the paperwork in, and things are rolling.

The art convention is moving along. I've got my client's pieces in the mail today, so that's all good. Got the forms for another, so that's better.
I'm sorting through my own things, seeing what I want to bring to sell in the auction. There's some pieces that will hardly see outside the inventoy box (Cause I'm less than leased with them) but there's a decent number here that I like enough to sell.

Also, I picked up about 10-12 more stones, including some Picasso Jasper and a delightful uncut/rough emerald cluster. Happy!

Mom's stopped bugging me about not going on a trip with her in June (impossible to get time off, we're beyond short staffed, as evidenced by morgan having to work a double shift on saturday, when I had the day off for my test, and me being alone yesterday, when Morgan had her nephew's christening to go to.) There's 3 of us, two of them in highschool, and optimally, there should be 5-7, so that people can book days off without it being a huge production.

Oh well. We move on.

Getting back into chainmail (actually, have to make an order from my supplier within the week) cause I'm doing a demo/workshop in the end of June. Also means I've got to hunt out pliers. Lossa pliers

Somehow, I manage to get myself into these things..

Little back story. Back in 2002, my friend asked me to go with her to a brand new, local art convention (www.c-ace.org) since she didn't want to go alone. I went, enjoyed, and ended up on Operations staff for the following 2 years.
In the 4th year of the convention, I shifter to the Art show director, which means I run an auction. Me, who can hardly speak in public and is horribly shy...doing an auction. Right.

So now, year 5 rolls around, I'm still Art Show director, only I volunteer to run a discussion/workshop panel too! Full-fledged, real hands-on, make it yourself workshop panel. What am I thinking!?!

So, I'm sending a call out for suggestions and websites/resources about Chainmail.
I'm looking for the History behind it, the time period, what it's commonly used for today, fun hints and trick.. any and everything that I can scour through and make a good workshop with.

~metalweavers I'm looking towards you for this. I think you guys have been doing this way longer than I have

Help?

Picked up some gold Tiger's Eye today, and a few random Cabochons (goldstone, tiger's eye, aventurine) in various sizes to see what I can do with them. Also, I stumbled across some rough pieces of honey onyx, petrified wood and a mica-like clear crystal (sold under the name 'Utah Ice').

Hopefully, I'll have a few new pieces up soon (there's 4 more to photograph sitting in front of me right now). I'll just remember to do smaller batches for each update 20's a bit too many.
If they work, they'll be up here too Of course, they could get chucked out the window in frustration too
