I'm very excited. Chapter 2 starts next week!

I saw a cartoonist do a thing once, where he kind of didn't give too much thought to critique he received in the middle of the story -- since you couldn't really tell at that point where anything was going, and the critique could easily be making assumptions or jumping to conclusions -- but once an arc was finished, he'd always post a journal asking for critique on the arc as a whole.

Well, I thought that was pretty cool and respectable, and also a great idea!

So, since people keep telling me I've disappeared and stuff, I figgered I'd give ya'll a little update as to what I'm up to lately.

Firstly, classes are something I've been up to. This quarter I'm taking
--Comic Book Pencilling and Inking I
--Backgrounds, Props, and Structures
--20th Century Art

Pencilling and Inking is a mad load of work. Tight layouts of 22 comic pages in one week, 4 finished pencils the next week... :noes: I think the main skill that our professor is trying to teach us is "speed." We've also been working from scripts, so it's good solid practical experience.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who's confused by the newer system of Categories on DA. I'm sure of this mostly because I keep seeing people say things like "What the heck is up with these categories?" when they post new deviations.

Funny thing is, Chaos herself is like this weird combination of Zim and Gir. She talks like Zim, and rants like Zim, but has the hilarious randominity (it's a word cuz I said so) of Gir. I made the comment once that one day Chaos would turn green, and we wouldn't know whether she had turned into Zim, or Gir, but we would know she was one of them. :giggle:

The :devjark: movement is dying. Predictably. People have an extreme amount of inertia. I'm sure you've heard of it.... it's called Fullmetal Alchemist. It's mad good, and I lurve it. I finally acquired both issues, volumes, whatever-you-call-em's of the manga that are out in English (since I, sadly, cannot read Japanese). Yesterday was my birthday. I am now OFFICIALLY an adult! Whoo-hoo. I'm not a minor anymore!! I am a Major. :D So, um, yeah. I got a boatload of Tria Markers *happy* and the Halo 2 soundtrack (about which I am now debating the ethics of burning for friends). It's cool. "Never Surrender" is like, Halo Techno, and gives me great pleasure in an amusing sort of way. ^^;

Does dialect bother you?

I'm trying to decide how much dialect is too much. I like dialect, and if my character has some funky accent or something, I like to show it off. Dialect that doesn't involve misspelling anything, simply using certain words ("Dang! You ASKIN' for it!) isn't really a problem. But as far as accents go, I've noticed in reading X-men that some accents are fine (Nightcrawler replacing all his w's with v's, for example, ie "Go Avay"), while others are distracting and annoying (Rogue's southern accent comes through when she replaces the pronoun ]]>
