Today's top story...I'm living on my own! Well...student halls at Solent University in Southampton, so not completely on my lonesome. Still, it's a big scary world and I'm still a little nervous about being out there on my own...yeeah, I'm gonna die *headdesk*

...well...actually I've been back for about a week...but hey, this is what happens when you're a lazy bugger who forgets to update his journal.

Buut, since I'm here, I have a problem...artist block. Yah, the bane of every goddamn artist strikes again. Soo, I'm offering art trades for anyone who's interested. Big news...I've started a club!! It's called the Sora-League

Random person: Sora?? Liek Kingdom Hartz?! Omg!

Nuu, it has NOTHING to do with Kingdom Hearts. Or Digimon.

It's based on an old story of mine called Stratosphere. If you want more details, click the icon.

BUT...I need some more mods to help keep the club going. The basic job of a moderator would be to just pop onto the account every now and then and try and respond to whatever submissions there might be, and also take part in judging of contests and tournaments when they arise. They can also make any suggestions to me on what they think will improve the club.
Mods are also allowed to create their own club characters as hosts, although they WILL NOT be able to compete in anything, I'm sorry to say.

Interested? Just make sure that you're willing to at least devote SOME time to the club, and are available for comment when necessary. Then just give me a buzz via note and I'll see if you're suitable ^_^

Btw, the mod-characters are more of a fun gimmick than a necessity. You can be enlisted as a mod and create your character later, if at all. Just check the club details on what the character theme is first, and how to create one.

Heya everyone, sorry for the late update ^_^;

Anyway, been thinking about this little quiz idea for a while now, thought I might as well put it up for people to try...although it's less of a quiz and more of two interesting questions if you create stories/characters...


1)Imagine your own story ever became an animated series...list between three and ten characters from your story and say who you think would make the best voice actor/actress for each one, and why?

2) The series goes well, and your story is made into a live-action movie! Same question as before...who would be the best live-action actor/actress for each character, and why?

Okay! Got my answers...this is for Mask of the Cat Goddess:


1) Voice actors
Bast/Bastet - Christy Carlson Romano. I'm basing this mostly on her brief performance as Yuffie in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Her voice is just perfect for Bast, and she can capture that childish, fun-loving essense of the little sun goddess.
Yoru - Brad Swaile. That's right, Light Yagami from Death Note. Particularly at the beginning of the series, before he goes psycho, Light is actually very similar to Yoru. Brad would pull this role perfectly ^_^
Sekhmet - Gray Delisle. This gal's voice just reeks evil with every word when she wants it to. When it comes to evil psycho-bitches, who better than Delisle?

2) Live-action actors
Bast/Bastet - AnnaSophia Robb [link] Come on, look at her, just adjust the hair, stick on cat ears and you'd be set! She's pulled off sunny characters (Bridge to Terrabithia) and dark, emotionless ones (The Reaping). A perfect Bast/Bastet combo.
Yoru - Err...my closest bet would probably be Max Thieriot [link] I've only seen him in Jumper so I can't make a huge judgement on his acting, but he has the right look for Yoru. If I knew more young male actors I might be able to make a better choice, but he's all I've got.
Sekhmet - Jennifer Garner [link] Yeah, Elektra wasn't the best film in the world, but it's the reason I'm sticking Garner here. She has the looks, and she has that fire needed to pull off the cold, ruthless Sekhmet.

Well, things have been going pretty well with me lately...gonna be going to London Expo on the 25th and 26th!! If anyone else is going, please let me know!

Otherwise, just been getting by...FINALLY finshed reading the Death Note series, and watched the first live-action movie (awesome, btw...but a lot of differences from the manga).

And also, been working more on this new story, which has been titled F.A.B.L.E. This is the one based on fairy tale characters I mentioned in my last journal...I've also been doodling some designs for the mian characters, but nothing major.

This one is based off of various fairy-tale characters...and ironically enough, it's a sci-fi XD

It focuses around a secret government facility that develops a multitude of weapons and human enhancement processes, to create empowered soldiers for the military...test-subjects consist purely of volunteers.

The main characters are successful test-subjects, and work for the government as soldiers...their 'trump card' you could say, as the general public don't know they exist.

But as they are still only test-subjects...the results are not always perfect...


'Mask of the Cat Goddess' is still my main project at the moment, but you might see a little more of this new one as it develops...stay tuned

Yeah...sorry to be so frank, but...wasn't sure how else to put it...

I'm feeling really crappy at the moment, needless to say...but...on the whole, I'm not as shaken up as I thought I would be.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I don't care about her enough for it to matter...I still love her to pieces...but I think it's because I've already faced this when she first turned me down...I had to accept that I couldn't see her as my crush, only my friend. And I saw how happy I could still be when she WAS just my friend. I know we'll be okay, and I know I can put this behind me. Maybe it's because I've already seen the happiness at the end of this road, and know it won't damage our friendship.

And maybe that's the most important thing...even as a friend, she still means everything to me.

And for all it's worth...it was amazing while it lasted. She gave me a chance, and that meant the world to me. So it didn't work out...but we tried.

...on the other hand, it just might not have sunken in yet and it'll all come crashing down on me at a random point this evening...emotions suck like that TT_TT

Yah...back when I asked ~raining-dawn out, and she said no...

Well, things have been going well between us...same as before, talking to each other, rp-ing, just being friends...

But the other day...Rainy said some things I never expected her to say. We discussed things...and now the two of us are going out!!

I'm still in an immensely good mood about it...because when she first said no, I promised myself I wouldn't ask her out a second time...that was it for me. But this time, I didn't have to...but I won't be cocky and say she asked me, either...we just discussed it and it kinda happened.

So I'm very happy at the moment...but likewise, I know it's not gonna be easy. I'm going to have to work hard to make this work out...but I'll do what I have to.

1) I've finished my first year of college now! Well...I've still got a Media Studies exam and a Performance Studies practical to do, but no more first-year lessons!! I'll be getting started on some second year classes in a couple of weeks, before the summer holidays.

2) I'm going to London Expo this Saturday!! I went to a smaller manga/anime convention in Waterstones the other week, so I've got a taster of what to expect...only this is just gonna be soo much bigger, badder and weirder. And before anyone asks, no, I'm not going in cosplay . Still, should be awesome!! and are going too.

3) I've just realised that my newish storyline 'Dependance' is actually spelt 'Dependence'...why do I never look these things up?! Oh yeah, cos I'm lazy...anyway...

I would be pretty angry. Hey, if a girlfriend doesn't like me anymore, they should say, not see someone behind my back. I would also feel pretty worthless...meh, can't really say much else besides, cos I've never been in this situation.

Not sure...depending on what they're like, I might give them a chance, in case something develops. But if not, then I would just try and let them down easy, and try not to hurt them

Someone kind, understanding, respectful...someone that can bring out the more confident side of me without making me feel uncomfortable, and likes conversation.
But probably the most important thing would be someone creative with a decent amount of respect to who I am and what I do, in terms of creating storylines and characters.
In terms of appearance...well, not really fussy altogether. Yet I have this image of my perfect partner having short, white hair and blue eyes. It's not really a big criteria for me though.

Both. You need both to be truly happy.

7. If the person you like does not accept you, would you continue to wait for them to change their feelings?

Meh...kinda in this situation at the moment...I asked someone out today and they turned me down. I guess I can hope things change, but to be honest, I'm perfectly happy having her as a good friend, and don't ever want to lose that. I'm just going to be there for her as a friend and what will be will be.

8. If the person you secretly like is already attached, what would you do?

Just be there for them as a friend, and hope that things might change in the future. But I would always consider the possibility that things don't change, and learn to handle it.

Meh...

I want to live a happy, peaceful, fulfilling life, and eventually get married before settling down to raise a family. Like most people I guess ^_^

I recently entered a writing contest for a local newspaper for 13-17 year-olds, for which I had to write a story, poem, song, or any other form of creative writing with up to a thousand words.

I entered a short piece I wrote specifically for this contest titled "The Water Angels."

I didn't have my hopes too high...I mean, I was pleased with the result but thought there were going to be much better writers entering this contest who would win.

And yet I got an e-mail yesterday telling me I won!!!

I still can't quite believe it...I've won a week-long residential creative writing course during the summer holidays, worth nearly five-hundred pounds!!

So yah, I be very happy at the moment ^_^

Speaking of contests...TWO DAYS LEFT til the deadline of my character design contest...and still no entries! I feel so unloved...

Just kidding but still, please, please PLEASE try and get something in, even if it's not fine tuned. IF I get some entries that need finishing/perfecting, I'll add a few extra days for that to be done before I start the judging.

Anywho...I've been addicted to these tags and quizzes lately. They're just so much fun!! So I decided to do the classic eight questions one that I've seen bouncing back and forth...

THE Rules:
1. You have to post the rules.

1) As you probably guessed, I like drawing female characters...I guess cos I find them easier to draw, strange as it sounds. They have a definite body shape which can be followed, wheras the male figure seems more vague. Plus I just find female characters can get away with more expression and liveliness. I find that harder when drawing male characters.
All the same, I try and balance out the genders of the characters in any story I create.

2) When I'm feeling creative, I tend to wander around the kitchen listening to music. My family thinks this is a bit of an odd habit, but I just can't sit still when I get imaginative, and the kitchen's the biggest room in the house where I'm not likey to get in anyone's way (unless they're cooking).

3) I hate solid cheese. Seriously, I LOATHE the stuff...and yet when it's melted on something, I absolutely love it! It's so weird, I cannot stand the taste of cheese in blocks or slices, but when it's melted I can't get enough of it! I've only met one other person who shares this view.

4)I have a rather intense phobia of seeing people sinking into the ground, be that in a picture, animation, live-action or even in written description. But it has to be involuntary, as in it's not because of some phasing ability or something (I believe Orochimaru does this in Naruto once...I'm fine with that). Seriously, it is a MAJOR phobia, I turn cold and feel sick the moment I see something like that on tv. The word you're probably thinking is 'Quicksand.' The phobia even extends to that word, although not quite as severely.

5) I hate Mario. Not exactly the games, although I've never really played them, but the character himself. His ridiculous level of popularity just aggravates me because he is such a pointless, one-dimensional character who everyone seems to love so religiously. I understand people have their reasons and I'm not saying people are stupid for liking him...but all over DA, I see people working so hard to create unique, interesting, three-dimensional characters with personality, history and detail, who never really get the appreciation they deserve. And yet a pixelated italian guy with no real depth seems to be more popular than any of them put together!
No offence to fans of his games...but I just find him frustrating.

6) I want to spend a year in America before I go to university. Where? I don't know. But I'm a guy who loves a change of scenery...but likewise wants to be able to understand the local language XD

7) My favourite movie of all time is "Leon." Remember, I'm a guy that's into fantasy and sci-fi, so that is saying something! I saw it in media studies and just thought "Wow..." Seriously if you get the time, watch it! It has, without a doubt, the best script, story, cinematography and acting of any film I have ever seen before or since.

8) I like pie...

And I've decided to go for my SECOND story option.

From the votes I've recieved, two people voted for story ONE and three voted for story TWO (one of which was via msn, not DA comment). Sorry to those who selected story one, but my decision has been made.

Besides, thinking about it, I need to try and work on a more serious, gritty storyline than my usual stuff, and I think option two would be a good way to go for that. It may be tweaked and altered a little as time goes on, just to polish things up, but that's the one I've chosen.

And you'll be seeing Chip in action pretty soon, since I'll be entering her into 's new OC tournament, the Wicked Blood's Destiny Tournament! Expect to see a rehearsal comic soon! As you may know, I've been working on a story lately, 'Override.'

However, since the idea sparked a few days ago, it has been compared to Tron, ReBoot and Megaman Battle Network. Now, I have never watched any of these in great detail, so I haven't been stealing ideas...but the similarities are still there.

But the question is, are there enough similarities to mean it has to be scrapped...or would I be throwing away a good story?

I've been planning a second storyline for Override, one which is far different from the original, but not so far that they can BOTH be new storylines of mine. It's one or the other.

So, I'm going to run through the basic plot of both of the storylines, and I really need feedback from you as to which one I should go through with...

FIRST VERSION:

(This is Override's original plot)

The concept of this story is the natural evolution of data. Just as we evolved from single-celled organisms, data too has been evolving behind the computer moniters, but at a much faster rate, gaining all the knowledge they require from the internet they are connected to. Programs, when downloaded, develop their own appearances and personalities, much like people, but are still bound to obey the orders given to them via the computer they serve in.
Max is a boy who discovers this truth when a power surge in his new computer almost kills him, leaving his body in a coma at the local hospital...and his consciousness zapped into the virtual realm of his computer, where his programs live out their virtual lives (please, no-one think of a Tron-esque landscape here, a single computer is just a large spherical room with doors around the outside, which lead to different programs. Very small in comparison to Tron.).
There he encounters Stryke, a hardened security program, Micra, a scattered search program, Chip an excitable gaming program that Max himself downloaded, and Inbox, a snobby messenger program.
He needs to escape his digital prison, or at least find a way of contacting someone in the outer world...and also find out what is hidden within the computer's secretive harddrive that attracts the attention of countless hackers and viruses, trying to break in.

This story is more light-hearted than the second, with good opportunities for humor and general fun, but with a darker understory. Entirely believable? Maybe not, but hopefully it's a good, quirky story to work with. As already mentioned, though, there are similarities to other existing stories.


SECOND VERSION

(This is the second variation I created as a back-up)

This story is set in future Earth, where technological advances are at their peak. The company Cyra announce their latest step in computer entertainment: A new gaming program which allows players to comminicate with a quirky, virtual host, Chip. She arranges the game options however you want them to be, plays against you in your selected game, and can even be freely conversed with at any time, as if she was an actual person. Her extremely high level of artificial intelligence and personality make her on the verge of being an actual, virtual human. Her own apperance is so detailed, she is constucted from virtual atoms that mimic the same atomic structure and elements of a living human.
However, with such an advanced level of A.I, inhibitions have to be put in place. She is rendered incapable of forming personal attachments with players, cannot argue with or deny orders, and is prevented from feeling any emotions other than joy.
An organization known as Mecha learn of Chip's existence. Mecha normally strives to provide human rights to robots who have been provided with emotions and free will...but a virtual human born into slavery is the same thing to them. And if inhibitions had to be put in place, it meant that Chip was still capable of the things they inhibit.
As she was only a prototype, Mecha were able to break into Cyra's main offices and steal the disk containing Chip's data and leave the company with nothing. Ok guys, as some of you may know, I've been doing some work on my latest storyline, "Scythe," featuring my good ol' character Mei.

But I've been thinking...there's Mei and Luca as the main protagonists...and pretty much all of the other major characters are villains. Okay, so there are the other orphans, but they're kinda secondary characters, and are only a part of Mei's 'normal' side of life. Doesn't seem fair, does it?

As such, I have created a character design contest, for a new, recurring good guy/girl for the storyline! The winner's character will become a permenant member of the "Scythe" cast!

This character needs to be a part of Mei's more demon/spirit side of her life, who could be a friend of her an Luca when they're out and about, away from the orphanage.

STORYLINE:

Okay, first you'll need to know the rough storyline of "Scythe."
Mei is a human reincarnation of Ramaku, a demon who was once greatly feared by mortals, spirits and demons alike, due to his murderous, destructive nature...it was even said that no one could see the eys of Ramaku and live to describe them.
Anywho, Mei still possesses many of the abilities of her past life, but cannot recall any memories from it.
Knowlege of Ramaku's reincarnation spread far, and many of Ramaku's old enemies, and new challengers, seek to destroy Mei now that she is more vulnerable than she once was.
She learns that spirits, demons and The Divine have always lived amongst mortals, often hiding in underground societies or living solitary lives...and the discovery of her new identity opens up a whole new world to her she was previously oblivious to.

Basically, your character needs to be a part of this world. A demon (dark, evil or immoral being), spirit (neutral being) or one of the divine (angelic, good hearted being), your choice.

Okay, here's how the contest works:

AUDITION!

That's right, your character needs to audition for the part in my storyline...if you wish to participate, create an audition comic of your character's introduction to Mei and Luca, as if it were from the actual storyline. Are they attacking them, rescuing them, or just bumping into them in the street? Do they already know of Mei's identity as Ramaku's incarnation, or do they later discover it? Let all these things be known in your audition.

Just remember...keep them in character.

TIPS!

1) Whether your character is a demon, spirit or one of the divine, they need to look mostly human. Just add something slightly out of the ordinary to them to define them from regular mortals.

2) All three of your options are supernatural entities, so it would be natural for them to possess some kind of unusual skill or ability that makes them stand out from humanity.

3) Give them a definite species. There are many different species' in each classification (demon, spirit, divine), so search the net for something unique, or make up your own! But don't just make them 'a spirit.'...what kind of spirit?

4) In terms of clothing/scenery, it's a sort of 'fantasy modern' world. Think 'Final Fantasy' or 'Naruto.'


Anyway, once I get enough people going for this, I'll set a definite deadline.

It's a little place where you can design your own summoner and send them into the club to be featured. There'll be contests every now and then, once there are enough members, and if I ever start a "Way of the Summoner" web-comic, I'll do my best to feature as many of your own summoners as possible.

Basically, a summoner is a person who is trained in the art of invoking the spirits around them, allowing them to effectively control the forces of nature. This can be done by use of a summoning blade, which must be forged entirely by the summoner himself/herself, and a few drops of his/her blood must be added to the metal whilst it is still molten. This bond between summoner and blade allows them to invoke the spirits.

A summoning blade is traditionally forged as a sword, but it can be any weapon with a metal blade, like a dagger, an axe etc.
Summoners exist all over the world, across every continent, and are the foundations of most societies.

Although the spirits they summon are happy to aid anyone with the appropriate knowledge and skill, they do not tolerate corrupt summoners. For alongside spirits, demons also dwell, and can equally be invoked. But any summoner who invokes a demon is immediately cursed by the spirits as punishment. A cursed summoner is identified by being approximately 20cm tall (varies depending on age), with small white horns, bat wings growing from their back, and a serpent's tail in place of their legs. Their blade is taken from them to a place rumored to be called the 'tomb of swords'. Many cursed summoners have sought this legendary place, where they vainly hope to be able to restore themselves...but none have succeeded.

But there are a few rare summoners who have been able to render themselves immune to spiritual punishment, and specialize in the summoning of demons without fear of becoming cursed. These corrupt summoners use this forbidden power for personal gain, and most are perfectly happy to kill others to get what they want.

So, you can create a normal summoner, a cursed summoner or a corrupted summoner, it's up to you! Create a character, join the club!

Kitai may be down, but it's not over for him yet! Although I'm not going to go for the second chance option (in which I need to draw Kitai being accepted back into the tournament and await the judges decision) I will be developing Kitai's story more, outside of OC tournaments. A bunch of new characters are being planned out, and they'll be up soon. The story kicks off right after Kitai's defeat in Hellzone.

Now, things are gonna be a little different for round two...as we have five contestants, it is impossible to create a fair match-up. As such, I propose a round which will allow one of the five to automatically make it to the final.
In this round, no one leaves the tourny. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
All five contestants must depict their character fighting Igira, a rather short-tempered, violent character from my Zodiac storyline.

But I must stress that you MUST NOT KILL HER!!! You can hurt her, knock her unconscious, disable her, make her retreat, do whatever you wish, but no killing in this round.

The best entry (based on the same judging criteria as the normal rounds) will automatically make it to the final. The remaining four contestants will be matched up so they are whittled down to two, and will then join the auto-winner in a spectacular three-way-battle finale!!

The drawback is that the auto-winner will not have anything to do during round three (when the remaining four are narrowed down to two). Although this could be considered as a short break in which the lucky contestant can catch his or her breath.

As previously mentioned, you have nothing to lose in this round. even if you do not win, you are still in the tourny.

Okay, look, I know I said that today would be the deadline for "DeviantART:Last Stand."
However, the problem is, I have seven contestants. Seven may be lucky for some, but not only would the tournament be very short, but it is impossible to come up with a fair round match-up with a prime number of contestants.
Also, I know of two others who haven't got their auditions in yet, and another two who commented on my last journal entry, wishing they had more time to make an audition.

As such the deadline is now EXTENDED, to SATURDAY 6th OCTOBER 11:59pm (pacific standard time).

Hopefully this is enough time to get a few more auditionees, but not so much time that the exisiting contestants are left waiting.

Okay people, the deadline for "DeviantART: Last Stand" auditions is at 11:59pm (pacific standard time) TONIGHT!

But I only have five contestants thus far who have submitted their entries. It's REALLY important that I get as many auditions as possible before the deadline so PLEEEEEEAAAAAASSSEE send them in! Remember, it can be just a single picture, so long as it depicts your character being 'recruited' by one of the 12 zodiacal characters (this is just as a test to show your opponents how well you draw other people's characters and what they're likely to expect).

Okay, now I know I said the judging system in "DeviantART: Last Stand" would be through the contestants' votes. However, this system would not only be tedious for the contestants (having to look at every single entry for every match to determine the winners) but it also wouldn't be fair to some of the less-acknowledged artists.

This second point was raised by Tenpouin, who suggested that a panel of judges should decide the victor of each match.

As such, the judges are:

However, there's been a slight change in the rules...
It doesn't look like I'm gonna get 64 auditions by Sunday, so here's the deal: If the roster doesn't hit 64, I'm just gonna allow everyone in who auditioned. Rounds obviously won't go as smoothly as a 64 contestant roster, so there might be some 3-contestant fights (in which each contestant would have to depict their character defeating two opponents at once).

Welcome, Deviants, to DeviantArt: Last Stand!!


Last Stand is an OC tournament, in which Deviants are given the chance to really show off their skills as their original characters duke it out against one another for survival and eternal fame!

I know I'm no or , but contestants are guaranteed several action-packed weeks of satisfaction, and some of DeviantART's hidden gems will be given the chance to be finally acknowledged as true artists!

The grand prize will be four free commissions by myself and , and the three runners-up will recieve one free commission each!

The setting of this tournament will be on a long-forgotten island that was once home to a lost civilization, complete with tropical forests, treacherous mountain ranges and an ancient pyramid at its heart. This island will be where the contestsnts make their Last Stand.

If you make it into the tournament, you will be paired up with an opponent and given 2 weeks to send in a piece depicting your character defeating your opponent's character. DEATH IS NOT NECESSARY! You can kill your opponent if you want, but it is not a necessity to continue to the next round.
Once all of the pieces have been submitted, a panel of judges( ) will decide the victor of each match, based on four important factors: Effort, Execution, Story and Skill.
Once the panel of judges have decided that round's winner, they will be listed in my journal within the next 24 hours.

Well, I've been seeing this challenge around lately and decided I'd take it myself ^_^
Basically I need to draw 100 pictures based on the 100 themes listed below.
I will try to only use characters I have already created, so as to avoid coming up with new ones to draw. However, most of the scenarios in which the characters are shown will probably be made up to suit the themes.
But some themes will be based off of scenarios that I have already thought up. Theme 74, for example, is based off a scene in my novel idea 'Hybrid.' I just thought it suited the chosen theme.

Basically, they aren't real Zodiacal hosts, but they do host constellational spirits, placed in them by a supposed thirteenth Zodiac.
There's Kujaku, host of Pavo, who can create illusions in the minds of others, confusing them...
Ryusho, host of Ursa Minor, who can possess incredible strength and durability...
And finally Igira, who can control lightning...and is Raion's sister!!!!
