Anyway--completely random. But I think the 'eager' emoticon here on DA is the absolute cutest emoticon I've ever seen *squee*

Important Note: So from now on I will just use this account to keep track of my favorites and occasionally put up a random rant. If you happen upon any of them and bother to read through it and agree, or disagree, or somewhat do feel free to comment. I'm an open minded person and LOVE hearing about other people's ideas in debate form (meaning you respect me, I respect you--ALWAYS. Just take note that if you come in hear screaming, cursing, and being rude or arrogant you will either be ignored or have your soul ripped to shreds by me )

Also. No. I'm not expert on ANYTHING I will ever talk about. Some of my facts may be wrong, if so, please kindly correct me. Some of my ideas may seemed biased. Well yea, the point of this is for me to rant, anyway. And since this is just me spewing stuff I will not be correcting any of it for grammar and spelling and I am some of the most WEIRD typos. I think that's about it xD

Anyway. The first topic I will be talking about is Feminism. Just in general, no specific aspect of it.

It seems like a bit of a strange thing to start on, but I am currently reading Surfacing by Margaret Atwood which is an EcoFeminist novel.

Now. I considered myself a 'feminist' but I don't call myself that because I really hate that word. It seems to have an implication that one believes women should be above men. Not only that but it usually has the connotation to militant feminist who personally I think are really SCARY. My one brother Neta is always calling me a feminist and it really pisses me off, especially coming out of him because he thinks feminist are sexist and he even told me himself that there is no discrimination against women anymore which just blew my mind. I couldn't even properly tell him off because I was just so baffled by him and all I know is that next time he begins to talk about gender or anything like that I'm just going to flat out ignore him.

Uh. But going on. There obviously is still a lot, but unlike the greater perception I think things are improving. People are just so impatient, they only think about the now and the day to day progression---but look back. Women only gained the right to vote in 1918. Yea, eighty years seems like a lot for them to be able to be able to get many jobs they wanted, to be able to live independantly, to not have to follow their parents orders, dress a certain way, have to marry without being looked down upon--but considering everything from a worldwide and larger point of view it is nothing more than a pinch in time. I think part of this impatience comes because women today want to have all the freedom they deserve now, they want to be able to experience it. And I don't blame them. I do too. But when you are working for such a huge civil act you gotta realize that sometimes it isn't gonna happen. Like the Environmental movement. People, there's no way we're gonna be alive to experience that dream world. We're in too deep shit for that (except for Iceland but that's cause Iceland is just amazing like that xD) but by beginning to seriously work now we can make things better for being down the road.

So all in all. Yea. Things are fairly bad. But think on it--you could have been born 50-80 years ago. I think things will get a lot better and will continue to.

Talking about feminist themselves--I love most of em. I love strong, independent women who know how to stand on their own two feet. And that comes in all ways! Not just women who go out and work and making their own living. Housewives are amazing too! Because hell! People think it's tough to get your own job and what not but taking care of kids, maintaining a house, cooking, cleaning, and all the other jobs which come with staying at home are NOT easy. If someone can do that day to day to day they have my respect. I think feminism isn't about all women have jobs equal to men, being paid as much as men and all that..those are important obviously but what matters more is just having that CHOICE available. If a women chooses not to go that path then all the more power to her. She has every right to do what she wants.

Which is why I have a beef with militant feminist. (Did I just use that phrase...?). Not to say all of them are alike, obviously, but I've seen way too many women put down by other women for wanting to simply be wives and mothers. Wha... ]]> ~ShynaTheTwerp
