Skool has been busy. I've got an essay on the French Revolution and it's effects on British literature. British Romanticism is probably my least favorite class ever. : (

NaNoWriMo hasn't been going too well. I'm so far behind it's... yeah, I'm not gonna make it. But I'm planninging to post what I have to here and continuing to update it because it's silly and fun. Who doesn't like sickeningly cute, pink, sparkly, princesses?

OK, a lot of people don't. But those people don't gotta read it, right?

I'm super excited about going to Japan! Like, super, very excited!

Also, I've been cleaning my DeviantArt. Ya know, just scrapping a few things and whatnot. While my writing for NaNo hasn't been going too well, I've been drawing a lot, so, uh, for the few people who watch me there might be some updates!

And in further news, I have a VERY exciting announcement - I'm going to Japan! I'm very excited about this. Every year during the month of January (my college's "winter term") the skool has trips to other countries that you can sign up for. I'm going to spend two weeks in Japan this winter. I'm excited for the opportunity to travel and see new places... but most of all, I'm excited to see the ocean. I've never seen it before, and I was so happy to learn we're going to visit a shrine near the ocean.

But until then, I've got to do well in my classes this semester - which is going pretty well.

In more current news - I decided, in order to try and develop healthier habits, that I would give up Coke this month. No Coke October. My only exception is Halloween, because everyone should be allowed to splurge on Halloween. The rule is that I'm not allowed to drink any Coca-Cola. Technically, I'm allowed to drink any other soft drink, but that's not really an issue because Coke is my major weakness, and I'm just not likely to drink any other flavor. Wish me luck. I've just hit the one week Coke-free mark, but it's a long way to go.

I haven't submitted any art lately. My scanner is being a pain. I'd like to scan some of the doodles from my Media Law notes when I fix that. Right now I need to focus on my writing, because submissions for the Apogee end on the 11th.

This year, since I turned 21 last May, I signed up to enter the competition.

Everyone in the competition paints on the same day. You have 4 hours, using only the supplies they provide to you. A canvas, 5 brushes, and red, yellow, blue, black, and white paint.

I was increadably nervous. My entire painting experience comes from my class two years ago, and the class I'm taking this semester (which I've only been in for 2 weeks now) - needless to say I was intimidated by the fantastic artists that were there. But I had fun and painted something cute and I hope people who see it will enjoy what I put into it.

There's a voting to get into the next round. The top 32 will be prominently displayed at the main event, and then the top 16 of those painting will make it into the main show.

During the main show, painting are displayed side by side, two at a time. The crowd cheers for their favorite painting. The winner makes it into the next round, the loser is auctioned off, and if it is not purchased, they spin the wheel of death and the painting is destroyed on stage. They use things like chainsaws, swords, or spraypainting over top of them.

Compy-D got a virus, or 400 thousand viruses - [link] whatever, it's out of commission right now. It is in the process of being fixed, but I had to order new operating system disks from Dell because I didn't get them when I bought the computer. It's not costing me anything because it's still under warranty - but since I know nothing about how computers work, I had to take it to Best Buy. Which means it'll be a while before I can get it fixed.

*grumble grumble*

So if I don't respond to anything sent here - it's not by choice.


In the meantime, I'm back at skool again. My roommate and I have pretty much set up our room to our liking and the first day of classes is today. I'm only taking four classes, but that doesn't mean I don't have a lot of work. Two literature classes and one journalism means that I'll be spending a lot of time in the library writing papers.

I'm really looking forward to doing well in my classes this semester. Last semester I lost a lot of my motivation and it took a toll on my grades. This year I'm really going to work hard and not slack off. And hopefully if all goes well, I'll be able to take a trip overseas during winter term. More on that later when I find out if I'm approved.

I've got six videos up currently. Most are just me using MS Paint, which I've become quite fond of over the summer for some reason, but two are made on the Planet Zot Oekaki board and were recorded with that animation feature. The drawings were doodled in a few different ways and took varried amounts of time - the older ones were drawn quicker than the newer ones since I was learning how to record them. Half of the videos are drawings of meowths, so I guess I should try to branch out a little.

If you have any suggestions for cartoon characters or pokemon to draw, you can throw them out.

You know what that means? I can go to the casino! And clubs! Oh, yeah, and, ya know, I guess I can drink... legally... but whatever! Casino! I've been upset ever since I turned 18 that I can gamble, but I can't go into casinos because they have BARS in them.

And besides that, it's my birthday, which I always look forward to because I can do whatever I want and use "it's my birthday" as an excuse.

Last year I dressed up super fancy, but this year I'm holding back a little and only wearing a sundress and a small tiara. I left my full tiara at home.

I won't be having a big party this year because I have too much skool work to do.

I collect things that are pig related. I have over 275 pig related items in my possesion. This does not count my pig-patterned socks (because I have quite a few of those.)

I sometimes label my works as created by "Hyper Piggie Studios" - I've been using this name since Jr. High. I have a group of pig cartoon characters I've made called Team Hyper Piggie - they have wacky hijinks.

I am saddened by the "swine flu" scare. Ignorant people who blame it on pigs.

Pigs are not sick, disease ridden creatures. They're adorable and very smart. Swine flu for pigs is like regular flu for humans. It's not super deadly, the pigs catch it, get a little sick, and it is defeated by their immune system. A strain that the pigs catch has been transfered to humans. It's going to work like the flu does in humans, they'll catch it, get sick, and defeat it with their immune system. It's like ANY OTHER FLU.

The reason it's such a scare is because since this is a new strain of flu for humans, which means we don't have immunities to it already built up. Young children and elderly should watch out, but as long as you practice common hygne to stay healthy, you should be fine. Swine flu is no more deadly than any other type of flu.

I realize that anyone with access to wikipedia can get this info, but I just wanna shout it out. Piggies luv you, they are not to blame.

That aside, I wanted to ask for some opinions on this large project I need to finish for my Shakespeare and Shakespeare Reasearch Component classes. Our assignment is to pick a monologue from a list, and then research it's language, context in the play, and how the play has been performed in order to make a binder full of notes and essays explaining how WE would direct the play and specificly that monologue.

I talked with my professor, and she's allowing me to, instead of explaining how I would DIRECT it, I'm going to explain how I would DRAW it and making it into a graphic novel.

So here's something I'm thinking about, and I'd like other opinions. What if I put this play in a steampunk setting? The ships are airships, and the island they are on is actually floating in the sky. I think it'd be really fun to design costumes for and would give my version a little flair. It's winter term, and this year instead of a class, I'm working at an internship. I'm helping out with writing newsletters/information for a nonprofit organization that helps the homeless.

There's a myth that a lot people in poverty are there because they're lazy or won't work. Totally untrue. I've listened in on the cases that the workers at my internship have been helping. They're good people who are trying to do all they can.

In the reasearch I've done for the pages I'm writing, I've learned that almost one in four Americans hold low-wage jobs. This means that even if they work full time, year round, they're still not making enough to support their families.

And those are people who can find jobs. Consider that between last October and last November over 12,000 people in my state (Indiana) lost their jobs. The unemployment rate here is around 7%.

Cost burdened housing is another problem. Housing is considered cost burdened when the price to rent it is 30% or more of the rentee's income. Some housing places charge up to 50% of their rentee's incomes. Can you imagine paying HALF of your income just to live in your house? That would mean you have to feed, entertain, and keep yourself healthy on only half of the money you make.

Then consider the stigma that people who can't pay for their housing face. Aside from being looked down on by people in general, there are actually laws in some cities that are specificly prejudiced against them. In Las Vegas it's illegal to share your food with a homeless person in a city park. That means you could split your sandwhich with your friend in the park, but if you would do the same for someone who was living on the streets, you'd be fined by the city.

I've been up all night.

I want to say that I've been up all night working on my essay, but I don't know if outsiders to the way I work would call my activities "working."

Throughout the night I have:
* Colored a pretty picture.
* Watched several episodes of Strong Bad e-mails.

* Danced around the room with my stuffed pig, Piggish.
* Dressed up in my Halloween costume + a lab coat.

All the legendaries from Diamond/Pearl. Pokemon are fun little creatures to play with. Not Gods. Aside from being kinda overpowered/rediculus - it kinda makes it less fun. Like, "Oh shit. Pokemon control time/space/life - this is serious business now."

Compy-D isn't nearly as nice and small as Compy, but hopefully he'll last longer. I've gotten used to him surprisingly quick and I think we'll get along just fine.

I've determined that his gender is male, but he's a little more feminine than Compy was. Don't ask how I decide these things, I just feel it.

I'm so glad to be able to type and internet from my own desk again. ^_^

I do miss the library a little. But then again I've got a big paper due next week, so I'm sure I'll be spending plenty of time in there.


Speaking of my paper, this isn't important, but if any one you know any literature that features hippos, please do tell me.

I went for my news writing class (which is my most stressful and least fun class, but I won't get into that...) because the journalism department got tickets. Our seats were OK, but could have been better. It was a very damp day.

We got there and had to wait a really long time for the thing to start. But they had speakers that played good music. Like, the music was a nice blend of everything from country to alternative, to inspirational, to disco. I danced in my seat. Fun times.

Another thing we did while waiting was people watch. Right below and in front of our seats was a walkway, so we could just look down at all the people. I luv to people watch - aren't people interesting?

Not much to say about the actual rally. It was kinda the same thing his campain talks about everywhere except they mentioned Indiana occasionally. Now that I think about it, I should have brought the notebook of quotes I wrote down to the library with me. I could have shared some.

Lemme think... OK, there was this one time when Obama was talking and he said "if I become president..." and someone in the crowd inturrupted him and shouted something I couldn't hear, but to the extent of "when you become president." So then everyone is cheering and the stands go wild and Obama tries to calm everyone down and tell them not to say that because he's superstitious. I thought it was fun.


Anyhoo, I'm still not entirely sure of who I wanna vote for. Obama or Barr most likely. *shurg* Either way, a president is mostly someone who just fills out paperwork.



Still no new computer. This weekend I should get one.

I really don't want another compy though. I've become really attached to him. He's my friend, he's served me so well.

That said, if you can give me any advice about purchasing a new compy, I'd luv to hear any of it! I tend to be a bit scatterbrained when it comes to shopping.

I know this:

I don't like laptops. I find them highly uncomfortable.

My moniter is still good. I don't need to buy another.

I'm on a budget. I don't need anything extreame, so I think it should be easy for me to get a decent compy for $600 or less.

My compy was an HP slimline computer. I adore its small little case that makes it actually really portable for a desktop... but this is also probably why my modem went bad - too much stuff in such a small place.

They said there are improvements on the newer models, and I'm sure there are... still, I don't want my new computer to go bad in three years either. I luv the things, but I'm not sure if I should go for it or not.


If there's anything in particular that I should be looking for... Tell me please! Then I can go shopping with an idea of what I want.

I've been spending most of my online-time in the library computer lab. It's the only place I can check my e-mail/do my homework without fear of setting off the twitch that will bring my compy to a hault.

I took him to the IT services guy... and he worked perfectly there. The guy said that my computer must just be old.

The next day, he restarted randomly, and wouldn't start again.

So I took him to Best Buy today. When the computer repair guy pluged him in, he worked perfectly. The guy ran scans and said he couldn't find anything wrong.

So I took compy back home where he promptly restarted, and wouldn't start again.


I'll wait a while. Do my homework here in the library. Then go back where he will most likely work for a while. Until I can actually find out what exactly IS WRONG with my poor compy, I'm just gonna have to deal with this.

I have a few sketches I wanna post here. Snazzy Cat, Prancibald DS, and a doodle of Ay and Tay. But it'll probably be a while before I can put them up.

I dread my news writing class. Religion, values, and the self seems interesting, but a lot of work. Water in Our World seems easy, let's hope it is. And the winner of most books for one class is, of course, my English class of the semester, Modern British Literature. The books all look pretty spiffy.

I enjoy my speedy, supra fast internet here, but things seem to be going slow everywhere on the web.

I popped back onto Gaia Online after my summer absence from the site. What do I discover? They've released a BLUEBERRY MUFFIN item called the "Stud Muffin." It's part of the "The Lusty Scoundrel" monthly collectable.

1. Ever since I was little, I've always wanted to be a cartoonist - but the jobs I've wanted to do have changed. First I wanted to be a voice actress, then a director, and more recently a writer.
2. I realize that my dream to be a cartoonist is something I probably won't achieve. So more realistically, I hope to become a bartender.
3. Growing up on a farm I didn't have any friends near me, so I spent most of my childhood amusing myself by taking walks and making up stories. As a result, I'm usually comfortable and content with being alone... which causes some people at skool to think I'm really weird.
4. Sometimes, though not often, I'll randomly become terrified of being alone and quietly freak out until I can talk, touch, or be in the company of someone else. If I don't, I break down and feel terribly sick.
5. My greatest weakness is a lack of motivation. Things I've created in my mind often never leave my mind because when I attempt to bring them to life, I let myself become distracted.
6. The reason I started collecting pigs was because of the cartoon Invader ZiM. After seeing GIR playing with pigs in several episodes, I fell in luv with them too. Odd that my luv for them didn't appear until Jr. High. When I was little, my dad raised pigs on our farm and we had a lot of pig decorations - most of which were forgotten about when we stopped raising them.
7. I'm often worried that I don't/won't make my parents proud of me. I love them very much and I have a great desire for them to be proud of me. So when I make mistakes, I personally don't care too much until I think that my parents might be disappointed and then I worry.
8. In Jr. High I started writing fanfiction in my head. (I didn't have the motivation to write them down... thank goodness.) Most all of it was so terrible! Full of Mary Sue characters and stupid storylines... I'm very ashamed of it.

That said, I still occasionally take bits of decent concepts from then and rework them.

It's kinda sorta like a choose your own adventure story. I post a section of the story along with a poll. You then vote in the poll, and after 5 days I use the majority's choice when I write the next section. And so on and so forth.

But, it's not gonna work if no one votes, so pretty please give it a look.

The story is a science fiction about two aliens on Earth to study the planet and the human race. It's written in third person but mostly follows Zack, an alien who's race is determined to wipe out all disease in the universe. Zack himself is a student working to be a psychologist and a therapist, but he's signed up for the opportunity to be the first Tideling to examine this newly discovered planet.

Later, he'll be meeting Janet, an alien who's race is almost entirely unknown to Zack. Her reasons for being on Earth are also a mystery, but Zack suspects that her intentions probably aren't as noble as curing illness.


Like I said, I'm actually pretty excited about this project, so I'd luv it if you would give it a read. The first page is a little slow and the poll doesn't provide you with an especially exciting story choice - but I gotta introduce the character and set up the story right now. I promise that as it progresses, you'll have more dynamic options.
