I'm plotting out an original story. So far, it's just rough ideas and vagaries, but I've written a bit of the beginning. The drawings I posted of the two new people are characters in my story. I'll keep you posted as I develop more of it!

What happened to that?

I was born in, and still live very close to, the city of Chicago--a city filled with liberal Democrats. My father's side of the family has almost always gone Democrat(though not without reason). My mother probably has a thing for Obama, but that's not why she voted for him.

I'm probably one of the poorest kids in my private, Catholic high school, filled with kids whose parents easily earn twice as much as my own, kids whose family has been going there since the 40s. Is it really much of a wonder that my school is of a more conservative mindset?

But when did it get to the point that freshman scream in my face for supporting someone who appeals to me? When did it get to the point that I'm not allowed to talk about Sarah Palin's displays of ineptitude because my friends like her and don't want to hear anything bad about her?

Maybe it's because this election is different; after all, it's not every day that an African American is the president-elect. But have we become so intolerant that we must try and blast him out of the water now?

I have seen the argument that McCain should have been elected because he is a soldier. After that, I went on Wikipedia to see exactly what it had to say about McCain.

A lot's happened to him, yes. But should we give people the keys to the country just based on what's happened to them?

After all, Andrew Jackson was a general in the War of 1812. I remember that he royally screwed the national bank over and nearly dismantled everything that had set up the government to run efficiently. I'm not saying that's what McCain would do--but people did elect him in part because he was a general. We have to be careful.

Furthermore, anybody who says Obama is going to turn America into a socialist country is not fully understanding what he's saying and not really trying to. Not all "socialist" ideas are bad; not everyone with "socialist" ideas are actual socialists.

America is supposed to be an open country, welcoming new ideas that have at least some merit. We're not doing that anymore. Why?

Today during study hall, a junior reporter for our school newspaper came in and asked some people, "Who is Barack Obama?"

I answered him.

Obviously, he's the president-elect, but in my opinion, he's the man who will finally keep to his promises. He isn't just someone who says one thing and doesn't follow through; I think he'll finally be the one that keeps to his promises. And to the people who say he's inexperienced, I don't see that as a big problem. I mean, Abraham Lincoln was inexperienced.
