2008 was good to me.

I hope it was as good to you all as well.

I know there isn't any reason to really be doing this... but do we really need a reason to say "Thanks"?

I just want to thank a few of you that helped me grow as an artist this year.

In no particular order:

- Dudee, some of your stuff just blows my mind! Your attention to the detail of every little line and design is amazing. I'm pretty sure that every time I see something new from you, I go right to the ol' drawing board (...seriously, the drawing board) and feel the urge to just create, create, CREATE!!
So I think it's safe to say that you pushed my art production ten-fold in the year 2008.
Thanks for the inspiration! Hope 2009 is a great year for you, I look forward to seeing all your new art and figurine paintings!

- Oh my goodness where to start! O_O
When I first stumbled upon your stuff (I think from a link off ol' square-head's page up there! Thanks for that too bro! ) I remember looking at your ink drawings.. At the time, ink was all I worked in. Nothing else. And you made me think "Well jeeze, I gotta work harder if I want my stuff to look this good!" So I stepped out of my comfort zone and started drawing more OC's.
Then I saw your colored pieces. Jaw --> Floor.
I started practicing color because I wanted my stuff to look as awesome as yours! I'm still trying to get there heh, but I think it's safe to say that without your fun collaboration drawings (The mini-god's, the beach party) I would never have stepped into the realm of color!
Thanks for the extra push that I needed
Hope 2009 is a fantastic year for you and your art!

- Sir, if it had not been for you I most likely wouldn't have started back up on DeviantArt! I remember seeing your stuff on the halfpixel forum as you were in preparations for your then-in-the-works webcomic.. You being such the funny and level-headed guy you are, (or appeared to be on the forums ) I knew your strip would guarantee to be a good one. And look now! You're already over 60 strips! I don't think I would even be here on DA if it weren't for your delightful comic! (which by the way if you guys didn't know, can be found [link] <- RIGHT THERE!!)
Thanks for bringing me to this awesome community, and for the entertainment from your comic Hope 2009 is a great year for you AND Finn-strip!

- Ahh the Mangler.. I hope you read this sir, for your comic is truly one of my favorites! While I may be a huge fan of dirty and crude humor (i.e. Kevin Smith) I also am a huge fan of family friendly material! There's definitely something to be said when a strip can be hilarious, family-friendly, heart-felt, and SO many other emotions on different days, and not skip a beat. And by the way, the strip about little miss mangler asking "what daddies are for" ..Well that was just downright heartwarming and I won't be ashamed to admit I let out an awful big "AWWWWWWwwwwwww!" upon reading
Mr. Mangler, I would just like to say thank you. Thank you for the amazing comic, and inspiring a (Hopefully!) soon-to-be web comic creator (Me!)

Keep up the fantastic comic, and I hope you and your family have an amazing 2009!

-----========-----

I know there are so many more people that deserve to be noticed.. though it's only a journal about 6 people will see <img src="http://e.deviantart.com/emot...

Hello Deviantart.

Christopher here, and it would appear that the year has almost come to an end.

I know for me personally, with all things considered, it was a good year. It may have had it's low points (my best friend leaving for a few years..), and it definitely had it's high points (flying to Seattle with my friends for a week.)

But you guys don't come here to hear about my real life, I know I don't come here to tell you all about it

So how was 2008 as far as my art goes?

Amazing.

2008 was definitely the year that my art has improved the most. It certainly isn't anywhere near the best, but I am content with how my art looks. For now

The reason that my art has improved so much, and I say this with 100% confidence, is thanks to DeviantArt. And not necessarily DeviantArt as much as you guys. All of you that stop by and look at my drawings.

Everyone who has stopped through in the past year, I say this to you:

Thank you.

Thank you for making 2008 the best year I've ever had drawing.

I made a leap to starting to draw digitally, and even got to the point of attempting to color my work. Two things I had never tried before. I am still learning (and believe me, I am nowhere close to finished learning!) and even though you may not know it, I am learning a lot from you all as well.

I don't want to go into all that just yet though.. Maybe on New Year's I will make a post thanking you all personally

I didn't mean for this to become a big rant, it wasn't even entertaining! So I just want to say this once more:

Thank you, friends.

Love, Christopher

Hello there artists, friends, and enemies (because I know you're watching this, Colonel Catastrophe! ...)

Hopefully you are all doing well.

Today, I am all business. If you'd like to, simply imagine me in a three-piece suit, seated behind a huge desk made out of some fancy wood. Maybe made out of the finest Italian Spruce. Go ahead and slap a monocle on one of my eyes, why not.

...Err.

So, I was recently going through my old notebooks and art folders. I found some good memory joggers and some terrible nightmarish creations I would care to forget!

But I'm not just here to tell you about them.

I have a sort of.. challenge?

We all have terrible, terrible work from our past. Unless you're crazy and throw it all away.

I am willing to let you all bask upon the awesome awesome terribleness that is my old work.

BUT! (And believe me friends, it is a rather large "but") The challenge you ask?

Simply put up a piece of work from your past!

Easy as that! Now I don't want to see something like from when you first got your neat-o tablet or anything like that. I mean long ago, from the time of printer paper and colored crayons or markers!

And just why would you put it up for everyone to see?

Well, because it's fun, of course!

Annnd, because I will be putting up the most humiliating drawings I have from my childhood.

Included:

Dragon Ball Z Fan comic...
Hiro My attempt at an original manga...
Middle/High School Notebooks! Ton's of sketches on binder paper!

So come on, why not join me in having a laugh at.. me!

To entice you more, let me add this. That Dragon Ball Z comic? Ya, I was under the impression that the bigger the hair, the more powerful they were. So... yea.

Even if no one else does this, I'll still be putting it up eventually, just because I like laughing at myself

Thanks friends,
Christopher

That's all that matters.

..What is this all about you may ask?

The answer, like most things in life, is complex:

I am bored, and there is a keyboard in front of me.

And as long as you are reading this, I am in FULL control of what you ca-- wait! No!

Don't press that back button! Leave your browser alone!

I'm sorry..

This is hardly an art talk at all, is it?

Well, let's try this:

Photoshop.

Adobe.

Paintbrushes.

Nice, nice... we're onto something...

I really just wanted to talk about DeviantART in general.

I registered on this site 2 years ago.
August 9, 2006, to be exact.

My first deviation was submitted on January 22, 2007. About half a year later.

On February 12 of the same year, I submitted my fifth deviation.

I wouldn't submit another piece for 13 months. March 28 of this year.

I don't know what it was, but I really fell in love with this site this year.

My favorite thing in the world is seeing all the art that is out there.

I actually had to stop myself from watching every person who's page I came across. I get so excited when I see that someone has submitted a deviation!

I am truly impressed and humbled to see how many amazing artists are out there, just in this small space!

It makes me want to be so much better

DeviantART has been amazing in helping to improve my art.

And you, my friends. You that are reading this right now, have been such a huge factor in improving my art.

You really have no idea.

I really just wanted to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you, from the bottom of my heart, for making me a better artist.

Even if you don't think that you have impacted my life, it's not true.

Every time someone leaves a comment on my drawings.

Every time I see that someone has even VIEWED my page.

Every time you guys say "Great job!" or "I like that pickle drawing!" (Which you wouldn't believe how many people tell me that..)

Every time I get any of that, I just want to draw more and draw better.

So thank you, DeviantART.

And thank you, my friends

-Christopher

======
p.s. - And thank you, all 3 of you that read this whole thing

But the jokes on you! I'm back, and I've got a lot of stuff that I'm eager for you all to see!

First some updates:

-Musical Chirs: Okay, I realize I've skipped the last... month or so. I'm sorry. I have no excuse other than I got lazy. And that is no excuse.

-Everything else: Yeah... So I've been kinda skipping out on all this stuff too. I think theres really only one reason why I haven't been updating anything..

I haven't felt like drawing anything lately.. I got into this rut, and I didn't care to pull myself out of it. I don't know why, every time I looked at my desk, I just kinda thought.. "Bleh.."

But I think it was all for good. I went to see a movie with my good friend Adam last week, Kung Fu Panda.

I think that it really lit a fire under me again. It inspired me artistically I suppose. It had the same effect on Adam.

I have been trying real hard to get all the cool stuff in my mind, and put it onto paper.

So if you can look past me not updating for the last weeks, I can try to promise you all some awesome work in the future

And I think I want to do some more really random comics soon.. For those of you who are amused by such classic as "Oh my god it's a... yogi BEAR!" and the ever popular "Crunchatize me Cap'n!"

So I'll be poking my head back in here..

and apparently I have 73 new deviations to look at from all you guys.. ugh.. Thanks for making me look REAALLLY lazy guys!

love, Christopher

Hey guys

For those of you who know about Musical Chirs, this next paragraph is just introducing it, so feel free to skip ahead.

If you haven't already noticed, I have been doing a weekly sketch series that I call Musical Chirs. (Pronounced: Churs. Like "Sir's"..) In this feature, I pick a song, whether my own choice or, usually, a song suggested by a friend or fan(!) and I listen to the song over and over and over and over for like an hour. In that time, I read the lyrics, and try to figure out what the song means to ME. During this process, a picture is usually painted in my imagination, usually relating to the songs meaning. I then try my best to put this down into a drawing and present it to you all, my adoring fans!

Now, (Welcome back to the Musical Chirs devotees) Musical Chirs is a weekly thing, and it's hard to believe but I've been doing it for a whopping TEN weeks! Woooo!!

Next Sunday's Musical Chirs will indeed be a special one as it will be the TENTH EPISODE SPECTACULAR!!!

What does this mean??

Well, as far as I'm concerned, these drawings so far have all been for practice. They are all in pencil and usually just sketches used to practice anatomy and poses.

And while I think they all look great and are really helping me to grow as an artist, they are still only pencil sketches.

So next week, I invite you all to come back to my gallery and join me as I do my interpretation of one of my favorite songs of all time.

And I'll be presenting it as a fully finished piece. Ink and all!

I won't tell you what the song is, because I think it's better to have you guess

But I will tell you, it is one of my favorite bands, Red Hot Chili Peppers.

So please, join me as I celebrate 10 Volumes of Musical Chirs next Sunday.

Thanks for reading, and hope you've been enjoying the past volumes as well

-Chris

I've seen some people do this, and it has helped me find some awesome artists out here in DeviantArt; I'm talking of course about linking to people in a journal!

So here are some of the people who I feel deserve to be checked out, at least once :

1) Jarmo! This guy is great; I met him on the Halfpixel.com forums, and his art is fantastic! Good guy who always puts up in bulk when he updates it seems

2) Will Rodriguez does the comic Mangled Stare. He's an amazing cartoonist and also a good family-man. His stuff is definitely worth the look, and can be enjoyed by the whole family!

3) "Rittz" has the kind of skill when it comes to cartooning that I hope I can one day have. His comic Boxer Hockey is definitely one of the most eye-catching comics out there.

4) Robert Anaya Jr. first caught my eye with a coloring he did on a sketch of Ryu and Ken. The man nailed the piece flawlessly. He has a great gallery full of lots of visually satisfying stuff that everyone could appreciate!

5) Joni is Jarmo's brother. He's 14 and is already proving to be an amazing artist. I seriously am kind of jealous of this kid's ability at his age, because he seems to be showing the kind of improvement that shows no signs of slowing any time soon. He's gonna go places!!
