Hello all! To those that celebrated hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Rock Angel Gallery had a working holiday! But it was fun... we now have all our new holiday cards and US postage up. We have had to say sad fair well to our main affiliation with Cafepress. We felt their raising of prices without opening up more options for our clients was no longer worth the work, we were not even allowed to print all sides of our cards! So from now on our new designs are exclusive to our Zazzle shop. The quality is far superior and with their tools you can use our designs and customize the inside with loads of fonts and your own personal message. Production and shipping is fast so you can get all your cards in one place. We have everything from traditional Christmas greetings to our very popular Winter Solstice and pagan lines. Not to mention our the very cute Anime Inspired cards! All with matching postage that can be used here in the USA!

Anime Inspired: [link]

Winter Solstice/Pagan: [link]

Christmas: [link]

Postage: [link]

A quick side note to the stock photographers. If you do not want your stock used outside DA, please make that clear in your "rules." I spent 3 days working on one of these from an account that said to write her if I wanted to use it off DA. I did so and was told she never allows any of her kids to be used off DA. I do understand and respect that. But my time was wasted because she insinuated in her rules one would just need her permission via a note. It's not hard guys... as hard as you work to get all those photos up to be used, I work that hard to create something with it. I don't have the time to do freebies. I've sold art online for over 10 years. I have no interest in selling through DA, so please try to be very concise when you lay out your rules for use.

It really is not so hard to just add "Please upload any work using *this picture* to DA ONLY" That way a working artist like me who do most of our work away from DA won't waste your time or ours trying to get a hold of you for approval. I love DA but use it as a relevant link back to my main gallery only for the most part, and stock poses if I should need it. If I can't use your "stock" as reference in a portfolio piece I'd prefer to just move on to other stock accounts. I ALWAYS give FULL credit directly on the print, here and in links from my site.

To those of you who were very clear in your rules for use and VERY timely in getting back to me I greatly appreciate it... more than you may ever know. I am awaiting one more approval and will start an alt piece just in case. I am as eager to get this calendar out as many are to see it. I hope to have it featured as well at the shop I sell at. Several of my calendars have been featured and I hope for no less with this one. Full credits for all the accounts and children will be printed not only on each page they are on but on the back of the calendar as well. Again thank you all very much! I have greatly enjoyed this project, and look forward to doing another I think.

Newest to oldest. A couple of these were chosen. Most were not. But of all of them these IMO followed the rules, were original and unique, professionally executed and well thought out. The files (unlike some that were chosen) are clear and you can see all of the design. The technical skill is stellar. There were other great entries. But I felt these were stand outs that were overlooked. If you doubt it look at what WAS chosen! Here: [link]

[link]

[link]

[link]

[link]

[link]

[link]

[link]

[link]

[link]

[link]

[link]

Now you tell me. :\ And no none of them are mine. Personally I was totally out of my purely fantasy element. But these guys deserved to have Shane Acker see their concepts and work.

It's MY opinion!

Honestly one didn't match any other thing in the persons portfolio. Not in skill level, technical execution, style... nothing. I don't think it was the persons work. One just submitted things they did MONTHS before the contest was even announced. I won't mention names... but I get the feeling the judges just got sick of going through so many submissions.

Again it's just my opinion. But after more than 20 years in the business and on the circuit I have a kiss of experience.

EDIT: So one of the finalists has now come forward and admitted to the *judges* after already being outed that he didn't design his entries specifically for the contest. They say this will be fixed. Sadly the judges have already compromised the legitimacy of the whole process by not making sure each of the final entries followed all the rules. Unfortunately it makes one wonder what else they overlooked in their rush to be done with this.

This is to rich!

Respons to me:
"Wow! Talk about being a "Debbie Downer."

Despite your “this is only my opinion” caveat, your posts are just dripping with sanctimony, judgmentalism and ridicule for anyone who doesn't see this contest as you do."

ME: Has nothing to do with ridicule which is why I didn't mention names. I could not care less than I do. The final judge can't forward my carrer in the area I want so it means nothing to me. And I certainly make enough to buy all the "prizes" if I wanted them. This has to do with more than 20 years of judging contests and at the VERY least making sure the entrant followed the BASIC CLEAR rules of entry. So EVERYONE had an equal chance and the end result could never be questioned

Artists, especially self-taught, T-shirt selling ones, who try to make a living in the open market, should know firsthand that "Artistic merit is a subjective judgment that is often based on how a given piece of art feels to an individual" … or, customer, or judge, for that matter.

ME: Yes art is subjective. Professionalization is not, and neither are rules for entry. You guys just don't like it unless there is zero criticism of anyone even marginally connected with running DA. "Everyone makes mistakes" yeah... but most of us have the humility to feel really bad about it and try to correct it in a timely manner rather than being mad at the people who pointed it out.

That’s why smug proclamations from you impugning the skill level, technical execution, style and creativity of finalists you dislike appear woefully hypocritical. I dare say you must think that your art is a shining example of the very best of the elements above. And, it’s a safe bet you’d be hurt and resentful of anyone who accused it of being amateurish, “knockoffs”, “questionable” or “just bad frankly.”

ME: you are the one who said art is subjective. I've certainly had many many pieces trashed over the years and didn't whine about it. If someone bawls because I said their art was badly executed, blurry, needed work, had low skill level, didn't match their other work or looked like a knockoff then they are in the wrong field. And you guys should get rid of the critique request option as it will hurt oh so many feelings.

However, based on your popularity ratings in DA and the fact that you are...

He didn't steal MY art... but I firmly believe in looking out for others who are in the field too.

From another site:
Me:Awww I got hate mail from Mr. Dick... I mean Dicky for blowing his tiny cover. Have fun:

[QUOTE="MrDicky"]
Tell me, why would a 36 year old woman spend her life on a website watching cartoons and posting images on the internet. Don't you have a job to go to, work to do around the house, huh. Why don't you mind your own business sticky beak! ::wned
[/QUOTE]

Now I has to reply. : LOL
Actually kid I own my own business and make plenty of money not to have to "work" outside the house. And I've been in the "animation" field for over 15 years. Now tell me.. why would a 14 year old little boy be SO lazy HE spends all his time online eating twinkies getting fat and stealing the art of FAMOUS artists? Could you be a bigger loser? Somehow I doubt it. The least you could do is give credit where it's due. You never know who is on these sites kid. For you to ever ::wned me you'd have to be at least 20 years older and actually have attended school.

I posted the following in my profile there:

Now I'm just gonna put this out there as an artist. It's not that we don't want our art posted by others. It's just really really nice if we are asked and obvious credit is given. I had someone here ask if he could upload my work to his DA site and not only did I give him permission.. because he was so nice and just asked I did a picture for him and signed it to him. They have that description section for your art here so you can do just that. Tell people whether you did it or if not who did or where you found it. Leaving it blank does not mean crap.

Now Mr. Dicky is all mad because someone recognized him for what he is, A thief. Someone who wants fame and popularity but doesn't really want to have to work for it. Or worse doesn't think he HAS to. Everyone should love him because he's the clever one posting work on a site where none of you will really know he's full of it.

This site is huge. It gets massive traffic... you never know who might be coasting through. It's SO easy to just give credit and get permission. The artist might actually give you something in return!

Here is his profile. Do check out the art as while he didn't do it it IS good.

[link]
bleachexile.com/members/view-profile/Mr_Dicky/

[link]
bleachexile.com/members/view-profile/MrDicky/

Yeah he registered 2 accounts.

Well it's finely happened! After 2 months 2 weeks the complete revamping of rockangel. com is complete! Including both our stores and our art and music community The Last Bastion.
We relaunched it last night and so far it's been a beautifully smooth transition!

We have a heavy emphasis on art and writing (both fine and graphic art and short stories and poetry). I will be looking for people interested in Moderating some of these forums. Writers who plan to post more than a single chapter will get their own forums for each of their "series" they want to post. And by the new year we will be offering prizes for contest winners in the art forums.
I will be migrating the forums to the rockangel.com servers in the next 3 months as well. It will make them run far smoother. But I am hiring help wit that. TLB has been around a while but I shut it down for a bit while I was working on the art business. Now I'd love to get it going again but don't wan tto mess up and lose the threads there during migration.

Hopefully by Feb Rock Angel Gallery will be launching our new Skateboard line as well. I've always kinda wanted to do snowboards... but skateboards are the next best thing. I'll also be offering some of my work on some interesting items in the new year.

Things are gonna get Fun!!

Thanks to everyone who has supported me in this endeavor. I could not have done it without the support of my friends and family over the last 10 years.
Here is to many more!

Tara
AKA Rockangel

UPDATE!
With the new anime tee line. They are simple clean yet original designs, and I had a lot of fun making them. I have a few more in the works. Each design comes in several different color schemes so if you see one you like at the link click the thumb to see the variation.

Hope you all enjoy them even if you aren't in the market for one. And if you have ideas on a design let me know. Just remember if I sell them on shirts they can't be copyrighted characters.

Check em out here:
[link]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

As I really really need to finish up this last tee shirt design. I am hoping now to move up the launch date of the line.

It's also time to whip the yard into shape for summer. The weather has been awesome! But I hope to have new work soon. I know several people are awaiting my Ichigo pic but sadly it is still in the design stage. It's a really big piece and I'm really short on time right now. But I will get it done!! LOL

I'm also working on a couple of non anime related pieces. I've been inspired. But I always am in the spring.

I just sent this to Dyne at Bleach Exiles. xshelaghx art is being claimed by this guy as well as my Halibel. I also recognized several other DA artists work. I don't think one piece is his original.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey Dyne. I was not sure where to report this. And I probably would have just asked him to remove my work he is claiming as his own.. but not one piece on his profile is his original work as far as I can tell. I am friends with 3 others whos work he is claiming as his own. Could you maybe remove the artwork? It's hard enough to try to curb art theft.

Thanks for checking into this. If I need to write someone else just let me know.

The member is:
Shinigami-Master
[link]

Thanks
Spirit
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT: I left this in his public profile:
SHAME! Not one piece here is YOUR work!! I deleted my earlier comments here. You stole my Halibel! And you stole xshelaghx Ichigo and Orihime. Not right!

Another edit:
To Dyne (He asked if I had talked to him):
Have and resorted to leaving a message on his profile but he doesn't even get back to me. Oddly I don't much care about my work as he didn't even bother to remove my watermark. But there are a lot of works there from people I know and they don't watermark their work.

I'm not asking that he be banned... but the art should be removed. I don't know how to remove the pieces in my own gallery I don't like so I wouldn't know how to ask him to remove the pieces. Which brings me back to why I wrote you. I just think the art he didn't do should be removed. And sadly even if he did some of the pieces there is no way to know since he has stolen so many pieces.

From Dyne:
ok i'll remove the art

*We'll see*

Sadly even if he was just trying to flatter it's obvious he's claiming some pieces not his.

People when in doubt... just leave a link to the artist you like... don't upload/post their work without permission.
