Thankfully I had just finished backing everything up. I was gonna reformat it, but then my brother was looking at the RAM, wondering why I had 448mb of RAM I always thought didn't make sense. Then he put it back in, and the monitor wouldn't work. Then he started shouting "DANE IT'S ON FIRE! YOU'RE COMPUTER IS ON FIRE!" I didn't believe him but sure enough there was a tiny little flame in there. I blew on it and then he turned it off and it went away.

It was very dramatic. And smelly. One of the most exciting things to happen to me in a while. Of course I wouldn't have been excited if I didn't have everything backed up, I'd just be depressed. Funny that.

Fortunately I still have our Rhubarb Zoo computer all to myself while Jeremy is in London. Hopefully it won't catch on fire either.

In other news, these things are awesome:

*Avatar: the Last Airbender. I say this a lot, but I think this is by far one of my favourite shows of all time now. Like, probably second to Evangelion. I dunno, I'll have to watch Kaiba again. But in any case, it's faaaaaantastic. I love it so much. Iroh is my favourite character, he's so awesome.

*Wii. I got one a few weeks ago. Mario Galaxy is great. Mariokart is hard.

*12 Angry Men. This is probably one of my favourite movies now. So simple yet so clever! On the complete opposite side of the movie spectrum, but still freakin' awesome was District 9. Good movies get me so excited!!!

Music is great. I heard Autechre's "Drane" for the first time a coupla days ago, and it was like a moment... where I realised why I listen to music. It felt like I had heard music for the first time, and all the wonderful things at can do for a person.

I'm sure most people reading this (except maybe Jeremy) would think it's a horrible, slow paced collection of scrapes and squelches but I think it's the most beautiful thing I've heard in a long long time.

But if electronic music isn't your thing... why not try a healthy dose of classical piano? I've also really been into Erik Satie. I think most people would have heard Gymnopédies no.1 at some point, but there are 2 more, lesser known parts to the song, both of which are equally beautiful and awestastic. Je te veux is also awesome.

In case you couldn't tell yet, the only point to this journal update is to get rid of the previous one, and I really don't have anything all that worth while to say right now. Been working lots. Sometimes while listening to music. The end.

Anyway... I haven't updated in ages so I thought I'd just say... things.

First of all, I've been getting lots of views and favourites for my Arrested Development fan art (40 fav's and nearly 600 views, which is a lot for me!) so thanks to everyone who's commented, added it to their favourites, or even just looked at it.

Secondly, Entropy got accepted into another film festival! Most people reading this probably know that, but to those who don't, it's called KROK, it's in Russia and it's held on a cruise ship! So YAY! That's cool

Also, I just saw Persepolis, for which a special screening was held to celebrate the launch of the film festival program and it was an AWESOME film! I have to admit, every time I saw pictures of it I wasn't impressed... but seeing still frames and seeing it in action was a completely different story... it was a beautiful story that was beautifully animated.

In other news, 2001: A Space Odyssey is AWESOME. I bought it recently cos you can get it pretty cheap from the Warehouse (BRO!) and I forgot how much I love it.

Ok... "tagged" me... I hate these things but then I thought "hey... you (as in... me... cos of course my thoughts are a seperate entity from me)... you could use this as an excuse to update your journal". So that's what I'm doing.

The thing I got tagged with, is where you say 8 facts about you. Except I'm not gonna tag anyone else cos 1: I can't be bothered to and 2: I don't want to annoy anyone who might just get annoyed at it like I did. But truth be told, it's mainly cos of the first one.

So here goes:

1) When I was a little kid... I think like 3 or 4... maybe even younger... I fell asleep on the street outside our house. It was of course at the end of a culdasac in the middle of a relatively peaceful suburb, so the danger this put me in was not so really in being hit by a car, as much as the two monsterous rottweilers that belonged to the irresponsible neighbor who owned them next door. Still, I can't help but think of this story as hilarious... of course I don't remember it happening.

2) I used to be a Christian, I was raised as one and all my family are Christian. Cept me and my brother. We just sorta grew out of it I guess... I think I was 18 when I realised I personally disagreed with too much of it to consider myself "faithful" anymore. Still... I've got a lot of curiosity in the whole spiritual side of life... I haven't invested much time into researching other spiritual beliefs but it is an interest of mine.

3) When I was little, along with drawing, origami and videogames, other interests I had was in puppetry and magic tricks. I don't think I'd have ever gotten into magic (too shy) but when I saw Being John Malkovich for the first time I kinda laughed and thought that probably woulda been me if I pursued puppetry

4) I used to build Transformers out of lego... by the time I was a teenager they got pretty elaborate... I insisted that they had to look "good" in both robot mode and alternate mode, and had to transform at least ten times more complicated than any of the real ones I owned. Now they have all sorts of complex, amazing looking transformer toys... and lego sadly just doesn't seem as fun

5) Until I was a teenager I insisted that all music was CRAP except for videogame music. I used to memorise tunes from Megaman and stuff and hum them all the time when I was little, drove my brother crazy. Discovered electronic music through Wipeout and insisted that all music that wasn't electronic was crap. Oh my have I learnt since then. I like to think I have a reasonably eclectic taste in music

6) I went to Massey Univerity in Albany for about 5 weeks. I wasn't really in a good place emotionally at the time... it wasn't helping that I sucked at it and didn't enjoy it so I quit. I was studying graphic design, I still remember some of the things the tutors said and as brief as my time was there I think I learnt a few important things. I kinda want to go to university for a few years just to learn stuff... art, art history, philosophy, psychology, film, history... yeah... it'd be good... but I dunno if I can be bothered doing the work hehe

7) Summer terrifies me. Has done for the past few years. Just gives me this sickly feeling of dread... I think it's cos in the last few years something worrying has always happened in summer. In high school, it was exams. Then waiting to attend freelance animation school just made me nervous... then being without my new friends constantly at my side for 2 months (that was the WORST), then waiting for 3rd year, then finishing the course and getting out into the REAL world (second worst)... I thought I'd be alright this year but every happy sunny day this spring seems to come with a few hours of unpredictable butterfly-in-stomach-syndrome. There's a few little things I'm worried about that aren't worth mentioning..... but they seem so much worse cos of summer for some reason!

8) I do this ... too much when I'm typing.





Yup there we go. A coupla other things that happened:
Radiohead released their latest album as a digital download, for a cost of... anything you like... quite literally. We bought it for a pound. It's decent... I love the last song. They'll never beat Kid A IMO.

Also... was watching Spirited Away again on the weekend... haven't watched it probably a year or so... I forgot how much I love it... every now and again I feel like watching it but then I think "jeez... it's over 2 hours... that's long" but dammit it's worth it! I love it the more I see it, I was just blown away by it's beauty and creativity all over again... it reminded me of why I get up every morning to do stupid clean-up animation. It made me so happy...

Ooooone more thing! I've been playing a game called Knytt Stories. It's a freeware indie game that I highly recommend. It's an exploration platform game (much like Metroid... probably closer to Ico, but I haven't played that so I'm not too sure) in which you play a small little girl/pixie thingy, run around collecting power ups and exploring the world. There is no fighting in the game, it's all about exploring, and admiring the beautiful atmospheres and music. Definitely an "art game"... you can download it HERE!!! -----> [link]

One of the exciting things about the game, is that although it is very short, it has a custom world builder, so you can make your own world for the game and share it with others Already there's quite a few for download on the forum... and I've started making my own one as well (although I'm sure it won't be finished for a long time).

Oh yes!

Ratatoullie (I'm not even gonna try to spell that right) is awesome too, and everyone should watch it. Go watch it!

Animation Now!: A selection of animated shorts. The total running time was a bit short, wish they put more in it to stretch it out to about 90 minutes. Some of it was pretty boring, but then others were really cool. I was immensely dissappointed with last years selection, this year was waaay better. Still nothing as AWESOME as 'Ryan' or 'Jasper Morello' though

The Bothersome Man: Bleak, minimal and surreal black comedy about a man who finds himself mysteriously trapped in a world devoid of passion and emotion. I really liked this, managed to pull off the whole minimal feel without being boring.

Tekkonkinkreet: Studio 4°C latest feature film (I reeeeally loved Mind Game last year) and also the first Japanese animated feature film to be directed by an American (Michael Arias, who was in charge of alot of the CG in the Animatrix shorts). I knew from the trailer that it would be visually awesome, and Plaid di the music which was also very good. The story.. I found it a bit boring at first but it got better as it went along and the end was pretty brawsome!

Paprika: Hooray for Satoshi Kon! I looove Paranoia Agent so I was really looking forward to this. And it's about dreams... anything about dreams is cool! I didn't like it quite as much as Paranoia Agent but it was entertaining nonetheless and incredibly imaginative with it's dream sequences. The animation was BEAUTIFUL and detailed, and Susumu Hirasawa as usual delivered some pretty cool soundtrack music (in particular the main theme in the credits).

Death at a Funeral: A british comedy about a funeral that goes HILARIOUSLY wrong... sounds pretty typical hmm? That's what I thought from the trailer.. but it got good reviews... and it's directed by Frank Oz, and it has Alan Tudyk from Firefly... and Jeremy wanted to see it.. so I went along anyway. And I was pleasantly suprised! It really was VERY funny, especially once things get really chaotic. Very well made comedy!

The Cat and the Canary: This had a live orchestra playing with it. I mainly went to this one to see a theremin being played live. The film itself I thought was ok... it's a 1920's silent film... and I'm not really into that sorta thing too much. But the music was AWESOME and very well played, so I thoroughly enjoyed it just for that!



I also saw the Simpsons movie, which I thought was pretty cool, but not amazing. Defenitely nowhere near as funny as The Simpsons at it's best... but still I highly reccomend it if you're a fan.

So now I'm kinda poor.... but hopefully all that goodness will rub off onto my artyness and keep me inspired and motivated till the next time I see some good movies!

I had very low expectations for the film, which were met I give it an 11 out of 10 for the giant transforming robot action... but a 3 out of 10 for everything else. I thought itt was TERRIBLE! Absolutely awful! Not bad enough to make me enjoy the giant robot action any less... but bad enough to make me cringe on numerous occassions.

But Peter Cullen was awesome. As Mike was saying... he can make any line sound awesome! GO OPTIMUS PRIME!

Lotsa exciting movies coming up in the international film festival... REALLY looking forward to Paprika WOO!!!

I've been spending far too much time on Youtube.... had an 80's-cartoon-intro-spree the other day which left me all giddy. And finally getting a chance to watch some of the supposed animated classics I've been reading about for the past few months... I reccomend Norman McClaren's oscar-winning short "Neighbors" (although admittedly not much of it is actually animated).

To me the most amazing thing about it is that the soundtrack was created by scratching onto the sound strip thingy on the edge of the film.

Also watched the alternate ending for Little Shop Of Horrors... which I already thought was brilliant... but I think is even cooler with the alternate ending (although it is very sad).

I'm on broadband... for the first time.. ever... I wonder how long the novelty will wear off

In other news, it was Chanelle's 21st birthday this weekend past... a bunch of us went to a bach in the Coromandel, and went to the beach lots, and played 'Pictionary Mania' which, although quite different to the original Pictionary... is really really fun. I highly reccomend it.

Spent the last coupla weeks doing a present for Chanelle and went to a free 2 day business training course thing, which was cool... a bit confusing but it was very helpful and met lotsa cool people.

Spent the working helping my dad build me an Jeremy a studio, taking up about a third of our garage, for which I am eternally thankful. I realy hope one day we get kinda rich, JUST so I can spend millions of dollars on my parents.

It's pretty nice in here but technically it's not finished yet... but it's so so so cool... need to stick posters up....

I really like it, not the best show I've ever seen, but probably in my top 10... the thing that stood out the most to me was the character designs which are super super cool. It looks completely unlike anything you'd imagine with the name 'transformers' attached to it. Thanks heaps to Mike for downloading it for me

For those who read this, and aren't in my class... and live in auckland... and can get to Newmarket... so in other words... no one...

Well the animation school I go to is having their anual exhibition where you get to see what us 3rd year students have been doing all year. It's free, it's at the Jubilee building 545 parnell, Friday and Saturday... I think 9-5... but it might be like, 10-5... I can't remember. Anyway, go see it, cos there's gonna be lotsa good stuff.

Congratulations on finishing your movie... or at least handing in a movie (if you're one of the many people like me who didn't finish)... in any case, congratulations, cos you're all awesome.

I feel like I'm going mad...

Stress is mounting as deadlines for our exhibition at animation school looms closer... I managed to get my movie poster done fairly easily to a degree that I was actually kinda happy with... but the amount of work I wanted to get done for the animation itself... well that's not looking so good. I dunno if I should rethink my stratergy... besides, I'm gonna finish the whole thing eventually anyway...

Still, it's stressful, and I'm angry cos there's been a few small problems with computery stuff that really should be happening, I'm angry because I don't think I organised myself properly to get the work I wanted finished done, and I'm just plain infuriated at myself cos I'm a fool because I am. And all this frustration is distracting me from Rhubarb Zoo... which makes me more angry And I should be working right now but I'm too tired and angry... zzzzzzzz grrrr

But that's cos me and Jeremy went to go see the Animal Collective perform, and they were awesome on a stick. I see alot of reviewer's describing it as if 'aliens produced folk-rock' or something like that, which I think described their sound well. A coupla bits I found almost scary cos it just doesn't sound at all human... they had a very unique sound.

So there's a highlight.

I guess I'm not that angry. Just overwhelmed, and frustrated. But Ihavea cat. She's sitting on me

Well Armageddon went great last weekend, still pretty tired, the weeks preceding it was filled with hard hard work and now I just feel like doing nothing, even though I should still be working hard on school and stuff.

Anyway, we managed to sell over 200 of 250 DVD's that we made of Ectype's End, and it got a great response from so many people, it was incredibly exciting and made me very happy. Sold a decent amount of prints too which was nice

the first day of the Armageddon Expo was today, me and 's animation studio Rhubarbzoo [link] had it's first little outing, selling DVD's of our first animated shortfilm "Ectype's End". We still have plenty more to sell over the next two days so if you haven't already checked out our stuff and you're planning on going to armageddon we're on the 5th level by the NZ comic artists table, look out for the big monitor.

Also we have some prints to sell there too, mostly from my 3rd year project/animated short, "Entropy" (which I've posted some art from up here) and also a print by Jeremy of this picture here [link]

More importantly (much MUCH more importantly) I finished watching all 14 episodes of the tragically short Firefly. It was awesome. I loved the last episode, even though it was barely a last episode.. but I'm glad they didn't just "end" it because I'm sure they'll eventually make more somehow... somehow *looks up at the star filled night sky*

In general, life is good. Busy, but not so busy I can't handle it. As much as I love doing all this stuff, I reeeeally feel like taking a coupla days to just stop working, relax and have fun. But until I can manage to squeeze that in, I'm pretty content just chugging along at the pace I'm going right now.

All I could possibly ask for, is more music by Steve Reich and Geinoh Yamashirogumi. And Susumu Hirasawa. Someone buy me cd's. Especially Geinoh Yamashirogumi.

Animation Now!: These were a bunch of animated shorts. Most of them were utter garbage, a huge dissappointment, especially one piece called "The Son of Satan" which was in all respects the worst piece of film making I've ever seen ever ever ever. So, so bad. Even the 'highlights' weren't nearly as awe inspiring as some of the awesome work they had last year.

Mindgame: GOOD-GRACIOUS-ME this was INCREDIBLE! I had to wait around the city for like 3 hours before it, which was kinda boring and considering the dissappointment of animation now I was setting myself up for a feeling of even greater dissappointment. But no, Mindgame was not only worth waiting around the city for 3 hours, but also made up for the almighty crappiness of animation now. It was so so so awesome, defenitely one of the best films I've ever seen. Very strange, intense, and very uplifting, the style is quite freeform, I can see the animators had alot of fun with it. Afterwards I just couldn't stop smiling for like 10 minutes... even after seeing a man peeing out of the passenger window of a car passing by... I was just sooo happy!

The Amazing Screw on Head (pilot): An AWESOME pilot episode of an animated fantasy/steampunkish/comedy by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola (I think that's how you spell his name..) I reeeeally loved this, it's hilarious and has some reeeeally imaginitive stuff, and cos it's in the Mike M style it looks amazing too. I really really hope they make it into a full series.

Homegrown - Works on Video: Unfortunately, due to my absent mindedness, I got us to this collection of New Zealand short films a few minutes late and missed the first one. But the ones we did see were good. Some very funny stuff, and beautifully shot films, one was very emotional, that was awesome. Some really low-budget animation, a couple of which were pretty entertaining even if they were visually.... not very strong. Unfortunately, there was no sound for the last one (styled as a surreal black and white silent film, whcih I'm assuming was supposed to have old piano music, as it did have a few music credits at the end) which resulted in Jeremy struggling to contain his laughter and me kinda bored and confused.

Science of Sleep: Very very funny, I love the blend of live action and surreal stop motion sequences. This was really an amazing film, right up there with Michel Gondry's other masterpiece "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind".

Densha Otoko: I've been watching this Japanese comedy for a while now, and finally got watched the final this weekend. I really like this show, it drags on for a bit but it's cool. About an otaku/anime nerd guy who tries to win the affection of a beautiful girl by asking a bunch of crasy loner's on an internet forum. this show kinda gets me in that gooey warm soft spot deep inside your heart that allows me to enjoy stories of romance every once in a while.

The King And the Mockingbird: this old french animated film I saw yesterday. I was kinda dissappointed with this too... it was mind numbingly slow paced and boring, the animation and character designs were badly dated, and the dialogue and story seemed a bit underdevelopped. Plus I slowly felt myself feeling quite ill, which didn't help. But it DID have an awesome sense of creativity and imagination, the set designs were AWESOME, unlike anything I've ever seen, and although the story didn't really go anywhere it had a nice surreal dream like quality to it. I'd love to see a remake of this film, because there is alot of potential for it to be awesome.

And last night I watched The Incredibles again with my parents. Mum loved it, I still really love it. I thought it'd be the kinda thing I wouldn't enjoy as much the second time but no I really still enjoy it. It's incredible HAHAH!!!

But yeah he's the greatest. He did the music for Beserk (not the theme music, just the background music for the show) and Paranoia Agent (which is an AWESOME series by Satoshi Kon, one of my favourite shows ever) and Millenium Actress (a film by Satoshi Kon which is alright, the music is defenitely the best thing about it) and he's gonna do the music for the next Satoshi Kon film which sounds like it'll be pretty sweet... looking forward to that. It's like they're a team... like Tim Burton and Danny Elfman...

Ummm anyway. Yeah. Susumu Hirasawa. What an awesome.

I cooked my sculpture thingy doo dah. It didn't burn or fall over or anything disasterous, which is god, I was expecting somethign bad to happen. I don't think I'll be painting it soon so it'll be a long time before I post any pics on DA, maybe I'll put some webcam pics of the unfinished one in my scraps.

I DO have some coloured model sheets which I will probably put up later today...

Holidays are halfway through... noooo! I haven't done nearly as much as I could have in the past week... lets hope that changes this week. I AM however looking forward to the film festival, I do believe Animation Now! is on next sunday... that's a collection of animated shorts... looking forward to that as there were some amazing stuff on there last year. But most of all I'm looking forward to seing Mind Game, even though I know very little about it, but I'm pretty sure it'll be the best thing ever.

But this year, I really don't want to get sick AT ALL, ANY TIME. As I don't really wish to stop working at all. I like to at least try and keep on top of our rediculously difficult to meet deadlines, and besides, I get bored if I don't work.

And I'm not like, super super sick or anything, just enough to suck all motivation from me completely. So I feel guilty that I've barely touched my animation desk today.



The weekend was fun despite the constant pounding headache. Me and Jeremy made a present for which, as is always the case with anything me and Jeremy do (whether it be a joint collaboration or a solo project), got blown out of proportion completely and became an epic struggle for us to complete in time, resulting in a major lack of sleep. Jeremy did most of the work though so I can't really complain. And it WAS fun. As was Frances' party, we played Sonic 2 on her Megadrive and went bowling. I haven't been bowling since I was like, 11 or 12. I didn't do too well, or at least, the fact that Jeremy COMPLETELY DESTROYED US ALL made my 2 losses seem alot worse (even though I didn't lose by much). Much thanks goes to and for an awesome fun time

My older brother was round for a little bit, just passing by... I showed off the one measly pitiful scene I had finished animating (more to show off the capabilities of my linetester than to show off the animation cos it really is pretty bad, and I'm looking forward to getting something good done so I don't get embarrassed when people ask to see what I spend all my time on) and I also showed off my sculpture of my animation's main character... I found some cool little plastic jewel thingies to use as goggles, it's gonna look pretty sweet when it's finished, I'm very proud of it, even though it's a tad off-model.

I've also been reading Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass for the first time. It's mad.

After spending a few hours cleaning up model sheets and stuff, I decided to give myself a break and accept my parents invitation to go out for a drive (they went to look at a house really far out, a house they'd like but would never buy cos it's too far away from... well, everything). The weather's been pretty gloomy, and it's cold... so I listened to Future Sound of London's 'Lifeforms', as it's haunting ambient soundscapes seemed appropiate and helped to appreciate the atmosphere more.

After getting through most of the first disc I felt like something a bit more melodic, so I chucked on Sigur Ros 'Takk...' and it wasn't until about a third way through the magnificently majestic 'Glosoli' that I noticed the sun had cast golden light on the bright green trees. I looked the opposite side to see the bright yellow sun bursting through the coulds... soon some trees with bright red leaves passed by... now all the exact same colours as those in it's beautiful music video were actually a reality... the song built up more and more getting more and more majestic and beautiful, and finally, when it reached it's climax, a rainbow came into view.

Awesome on a stick.



There's been at least 3 times when I would listen to Orbital's 'Are we Here?' and through the dark and gloomy half it was raining, and then suddenly as it shifted to it's bright chirpy pretty half, the sky cleared up and the sun shone brightly. So cool.

Mine:

1) I have an irrational fear of heat-lamps. I mean the ones in bathrooms that keep you warm when you get out of the shower. I always think they're gonna overheat and explode, shattering glass everywhere

2) I have certain rituals when I eat, usually stemming from my habit to save the best food for last. EG: I tend to try to finish off my vegetables as quickly as possible, so that I have a nice amount of meat left over to eat by itself. I do very much like my meat. I also ALWAYS save some potatos for last if we're having roast

3) My left big-toe makes a yucky grinding noise if I stretch my leg out just right and wriggle my toe around

4) I never learnt how to ride a bike, and can't really swim properly (I can move around in the water enough to keep me alive but don't ever ask me to race you or you'll be embarrassed to be my friend)

5) I can't touch my toes. I mean, like... bending down, keeping my legs straight. Albiet, I CAN put my toes in my mouth. But I don't really see the need to.

6) I have abnormally stretchy earlobes. To be honest, I reckon they're pretty freekin' long in the first place though.

I no longer have a job... quit a few weeks ago... it's gooooood. I get to work a full 7 days a week on anything I want (which for the most part will be my 3rd year project). It really is amazing how much difference one day makes.

So I'm all busy and stuff. It's quite exciting... especially working with so many other talented people, our class is brawsome.

Jeremy discovered that our former classmate, Sam Killeen-Chance has a coupla comics published... it's quite neat, unlike anything else you'll ever see so if you're ever in Heroes For Sale on K Road check out 'Space Wish'.

Forgot to post a journal entry about my birthday. Not that it matters, but it's like, my ONE excuse this whole holidays (apart form Christmas) to do a journal entry.

So I'm 21 now. OLD. I'm OOOOLD. But Matt's older so that's ok.

Bunch of us went to Rainbow's End YEAH! Rainbows end is cool. And then we went to Pizza Hut and Leonard and Vincent put pepper and pizza in their ice cream. Oh my did I laugh. Too much. Thanks to everyone who came, sorry to everyone I didn't invite.

But yeah... one week of the holidays left. It went WAAAAY too quick. I wanted to do alot more. I thought I'd get my comic done quicker, and I probably would have if I didn't work so many extra hours around Christmas time. But that was ok cos it meant I could buy pressies. Still, I have two pages to go for the first chapter of my comic (which I'm working on RIGHT now... well.. I was until I got on the interenet... stupid distractions). And a cover. I'll put it up on the internet somewhere for everyone to see, but it might be a while before I get that sorted. Still, my goal was to get chapter 1 done, and unless something goes horribly wrong, it looks like I'm gonna accomplish that.

I really wanted to do more preparation for my 3rd year. I'm gonna try and go nuts with that once I finish my comic... probably leaving me like 3-4 days to fully immerse myself in that.

Been doing music for Mike's Zombie movie with Jeremy and that's going really well. Plus an old song of mine is gonna be used in some game promo thingy, that's pretty cool.

Yep. Guess I'm just rambling now.

The animation school I attend is having their end of year exhibition. If by any chance there is anyone reading this that is in Auckland, it's at the Aotea Centre it runs from 10-5, thursday to friday and 10-4 on Saturday... you should go it's cool and all my friends from freelance will agree I'm sure.

I have the first 7 pages of my comic up there... although it's been printed in the wrong order :/ but people were looking at it.... so that's alright. Also tried to get in the movie me and Jeremy :iconninjaraven: made but that didn't seem to work out cos it was a very last minute submission sorta. If we manage to get it in... I'll update this journal again.

EDIT: Ok... well... I sorted the comic out... and apparently the movie is there... either we missed it or someone forgot to put it in... so they're gonna sort it out.. apparently. Anyway... yeah.

So I had a mad weekend. Me and Jeremy and Oliver are making a short film (we'll try and make it avaible online when it's finished) as part of a little film festival that Luke is organising. It's been fun and challenging but succesful so far. But we hit a few snags this weekend.

So we had to a do a shot of me prancing around in the park somewhere. But as soon as we got there I slipped in the mud. It was funny... but.... I was covered in mud, and that just won't do. I didn't have a change of clothes either. Fortunately Jeremy's clothes fitted me fine. So we decided to go to Oliver's and do some editing (which we were going to do after that little bit of filmming anyway). We had some problems so it was a bit of a slow process but it went alright. Then fairly late at night (cos Oliver kept distracting me with delicious remixes of 3 Libras by Perfect Circle) we finally went back to Jeremy's so we could film agian in the morning.

We passed a very good bakery (Zoe, remember that one in K road we used to get $2 filled rolls from? They're rediculously cheap and good). It has a Turbo 3000. And we recorded footage of scary nighttime stuff too. Well that was all good and well... but then as we walked to Jeremy's it POURED down. Like, I've never been in rain that hard. I keep using this description cos it fits best: it was like someone dunked us into a pool with our clothes on.

Eventually we made it back to Jeremys... very wet... Dad dropped off a change of clothes for me fortunately after I fell in the mud. Poor Oliver tho had to wear rediculous bright clothes. To be honest I was envious... but I like looking silly.

We woke up and mucked around for ages.. altho the shots we recorded we will be able to use anyway. We ordered pizza thanks to the vouchers Oliver found. But before they arrived we got kicked out of the house because of a suprise open home. Yay. Our clothes were all wet so we had to wait around outside for them to dry while the open home proceeded (altho I was ok... just had to wear wet shoes without socks... ). We got our pizza (which like the bakery was a highlight which made things a bit more tollerable) and ate it in the wind which almost blew it away a few times.

Then we went to Luke and Rachaels to wait.. but they weren't there. So Oliver left for his hostel while me and Jeremy waited. Eventually Luke and Rachael and Stu came back and let us in. We watched a couple of AWESOME new zealand short films, then grabbed out stuff at Jeremys and headed off to Olivers.

Then it rained again.

So we headed back to JEremys and when it eased up we continued.

Then is rained again. Much harder.

At this point I wanted to give up. But K road and it's dry sheltered goodness was not far off and we forged ahead. I didn't get too wet and Jeremy's coat kept him dry. But then we got there... Oliver had unexpected guests... and we didn't get much done at first. But eventually they left and it was all good.

So yeah. It was wet, cold, and topsy turvy. But all in all it was actually very fun. We didn't get much done but oh well... there's still another coupla weeks before the film festival.

Well... after our rough animation exam, which is this week... will be a 2 week holiday, in which I will be working on my comic as much as possible. Which is BTW, the reason for the lack of material been put up on here. I'm saving it all, gonna stick it up online one chapter at a time. People who have seen what I've done so far have been impressed even tho I've been fairly dissappointed with it, cept for the top half of the last page I did. Oh well... I'm getting better... by the time I reach the last chapter, hopefully I'll be the man.

So I'm like writing in my journal cos I ACTUALLY have something mildly interesting to write, well not really but it's good enough. I mean I even forgot to until Zoe did the same. So I'm writing what I did in the holidays.

I mainly saw movies. They were:

*Thumbsucker: which was pretty good, Keanu Reeves stole the show as a new age dentist. Only live action movie I saw I think... mighta watched something on TV that I didn't care about...

*Yuri Norstein Retrospective: 5 shorts by the supposed 'great Russian animator'. I didn't know what to expect cept that it was supposed to be AWESOME. It's all collagey kinda animation... think Terry Gilliam's work on Monty Python's Flying Circus. 2 of them were UBER pretty. I liked them... one was so... mysterious... and pretty. Awesome. Another one put me to sleep. the other 2 were 'meh'.

*Howl's Moving Castle: OH MY GOD!!!! SO GOOD!! I loved it. The story seemed a bit... well.. didn't make much sense.. but it was cool in a dream-like surreal way. But WOW it just 'looked' so incredibly AWESOME!!! So detailed and beautiful and AARGH *a'splodes*

*Animation Now!: This was a collection of short films from the past year. Almost all of them were AAAWESOME!! A wide range of stuff, gradually moving from jolly and funny, to disturbing and funny, to just plain disturbing, and then disturbing and sad. All in all... very moving and emotional stuff... which is always good. I will never make light of obsessive compulsive disorder again. Oh and I sat next to a couple of Tim Burton fans, that was cool

*Angel's Egg: This is a very very very unsual anime... it's very arty and very minimal, but very beautiful at the same time. Some really really haunting music too. I really like it but I'm sure alot of people would hate it, unfortunately it seems to be a very obscure and hard to find film.

*More: I just watched this tonight, it's a 6 minute stop motion short film and it's really really cool, reminds me alot of Brazil. You can watch it here - [link]

What else I do? I went to Niel's to watch anime for 2 days... so's I've been watching alot of Full Metal Alchemist (which is AWESOME but I haven't finished watching it yet) and I saw the whole of Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu which was funny but got a little boring in bits. Still pretty cool.

I actually bloody STARTED my comic. Altho only 1 page As you can see I haven't been going out to see alot of movies... not been home much. That's my excuse anyway.

Anyway, I know no one read all that.. but at least one day, I can look back on it, and see what I did one holidays, eh Dane? So anyway... I'm really hoping to get some work on my comic done from now on. But man it's hard to get motivated. Matt came over during the holidays, and that was really fun and awesome cos I haven't seen him in ages. But that's besides the point... he had like a book of all these awesome little pen comics that he does about life in general.

And he does them so quickly. I mean... how do people do it?

1) I'm lazy.
2) Any drawings I do are rough developmental type stuff for a story comic thing I'm trying to develop... it's going reeeeeeeeeeal slow though.
