Sorry, I've been kinda down, busy, uninspired and tired lately, so I didn't really feel like worrying about the internet, as I've had to move, help relatives, and just generally worry about everything, so I kinda disappeared...

I'm not really interested in giving a huge wall of text as for what happened, and I've not drawn very much either so no flooding of inbox, and unfortunately I haven't had time to draw things that I owe and so on, but hopefully I can get some of them done this weekend, but I'm not promising anything. I'll get them done eventually though, so don't worry, I've marked everything overdue up, I just need to find the right moodset and time to do them, don't want to half-ass them, especially after all the wait.

So that's that, I'm still not 100% back, but I'll be around...

Well, I figured I could hand out a couple of traditional sketch requests at random due to my activities in the summer permitting that, so here's the deal:
You have until June 16th 10pm GMT to indicate your willingness to participate, and you will be assigned a number in chronological order. Once the time limit is reached, I will use random.org to generate 3 numbers, and whoever those happen to be will win a free traditionally drawn request. Just know that if you try to cheat, I'll immediately disqualify you, so no alternate accounts. Also due to that I unfortunately won't accept anyone whose account was created after this journal.

Do keep in mind that the requests will follow the same guidelines as my commissions, and if you don't like that, well, tough luck.
Also preferably request something that I won't need much reference for, or if I do, it must be 100% worksafe or else you're going to have to find another character to be portrayed. In addition to above, species I won't need to carry around references for are better, so Foxes are a safe choice, Cats, Rabbits and Canines are ok, Mice/Rats so-so, and anything else depends on what it is. Depending on character difficulty you might get one or two characters in the drawing, so consider that.

Well, if this works out well, and I get enough commissions, I might do more of these... and speaking of commissions, they will be open for the entire summer, starting now until the end of August unless I mention otherwise.

I'll be honest with you here, i'm not that great at communicating with others, be it text or talk, so if I don't reply in any way, it is most often due to my mind getting stuck in a loop around one matter, or sidetracking so long that I lose focus on what I was going for in the first place. That, coupled with the fact I'm not the most initiative kinda guy has led to several problematic situtations that I've somehow managed to get on with eventually.

I guess I better start at the beginning... My father is a former architect and worked with cellphone OSes until until some time ago, and my mother was a doctor, but also a good drawer from what I hear, so I guess those are some of the reasons I've got where I'm now...
Anyway, my early childhood was fairly ordinary and somewhat uneventful, being the only child in the family, and not having any nearby like-aged cousins. I had a loving grandmother whom I still visit whenever I can, as I now live closer to her than before.
The first years at school were not so great, though... I was the weird kid, and got around half the boys in the same class to bully me, and I got in quite a bit of trouble then, even several detentions due to going after them. Still, it was not all bad, I had a very good friend I spent the days with, and some other friends who were ok.

I was at the first school for until the beginning of the 6th grade, and I was 12 at the time, autumn 1999, and I had a millenium I probably will never forget...
The reason I ended in that school was due to moving to another town, and so I didn't have any way of contacting my old friends again. That was not the only thing, as around the time we had finished moving, my mother went missing, and turned up only half-a-year later, having committed suicide.

It's still not an easy subject and probably never will be, but at the time it was rather devastating, having to get used to new surroundings, trying to build a new social network, and losing my mother was very hard, and it reflected in my behaviour quite a bit. I got aggressive. I also couldn't really get inside the already formed circles of friends so I was left alone.
However school went on, I started getting fairly good grades, but I wasn't happy. At any point, I could explode to the mildest provocation, and eventually that got enough attention from the school staff to get me into regular meetings with the school counselor. I went to those for about a year or so... and I guess they helped a bit, but not that much really.
Anyway, by the time I was done with the 9th grade, and moved on to college, I had been getting solid 10s from mathematics, physics and chemistry, but during the college it started declining... mostly due to the fact homework wasn't being checked anymore. You see, I'm not good at not having deadlines... if I have freedom to do something, I generally tend not to, and I can't really help it, I just need a clear frame work things in and they go smoothly.

And that's why things went how they did after college... I finished college with fairly poor grades by the end, and had an almost year until my army service started, so I tried to get a university spot, as I didn't really know what to do next... and got a chemistry student's spot at the Helsinki University. However, I skipped the first year due to having to go to army, but I didn't manage to get any work or anything in the meantime... so I was just kinda there.
Then the army service turned out to be a 9 month service, and since I started at January, I ended up missing all the starting courses, and I didn't even have an appartment yet... looking for one took one more month, and so it was November by the time I finally got started with everything.
However, I told you I wasn't the best person at communicating, and I am in fact slightly afraid of talking to others... preventing me from seeking advice from the university staff or other students, and I was too ashamed of myself to ask for help from my father, so time went on... for one and a half year to be exact, until everything came crashing down about a month ago.

Now things are starting to be sorted out, and I have a mild anti-depression medication that will hopefully help in getting myself back to my feet, and I also have a fairly good idea what I'm going to do... too bad my application to an art school bounced, but next time, next time... For sure I won't be continuing chemistry at the university, but if I can keep my spot I could switch to IT/computers, and see if that'll be any help in my artistic ambitions. And if that don't add up, I guess I could just hightail it back to my father and help in putting the house in a sellable condition, so I'm not in a hopeless situtation, even though I've screwed up a lot of things...

Artistic ambitions... cripes, it's still hard thinking of my drawings as art, but I guess I should try and start, as m...

Well, since I've got a couple commissions done so far, I figured I'd see how much interest I have... so how about this: if I can raise up to $500 from commissions during this year, I'll buy a (good) tablet the first chance I get.

I don't know if it would make much of a difference overall yet, but since I wouldn't have to worry about making a big mistake while drawing, it'd most likely mean more pages faster for the comic. Also, if it'd seem easy enough, heck, it might turn into full colour as well. Drawing-wise, it would certainly be handy to have an undo-button available

So... $500 would mean either about 100 sketches, about 40 shaded drawings, or 20 fully coloured ones, or less if you want a background too, or extra characters. So if you would like to have a commission, it would be greatly appreciated ^^

So far I've got $10.45 of that, which will be $26.80 once I receive all the payments for a series of sketches.

Currently I'm only asking for a payment after I'm done, a sort of quality assurance if you will, but pull a fast one on me and that will change. I'd rather not charge in advance since I hate having debt to anyone, so don't skip out on it (I can understand if you aren't able to pay right away, but I'd like to know about such a thing in advance, please)

more commission info here: [link]

As far as I remember, it all started with me doodling some Star Trek ships with my father at the age of about 4 (1991) or so. I most likely did something before that, but couldn't remember anything prior to age of 4 even then. Anyway, those occasional doodlings continued until the start of school (age 7, 1994), at which point I turned over to doodling in notebooks during breaks(the school even distributed those notebooks with that intention!). This went on until about the 2nd or 3rd grade, when I made really good friends with a boy I knew from the day-care centre run by his parents. After that point I started spending more and more time with him, and less and less time drawing, more or less stopping completely. At this time I did get another friends as well, one who gave me my first glimpse at the SNES, and Metroid, and another who had Sega Master System, and a Sonic game in it, possibly the 3rd one. I immediately liked Tails more, since flying = awesome, and since Sonic couldn't fly he was significantly less awesome XD (I also thought Knuckles was a girl at that time...)

Things probably would've stayed that way too, unless we had moved at the beginning of the 6th grade (age 12, 1999). This move did have the unfortunate consequence of severing my contact with him, and I haven't regained that contact since... Well, this did make me slowly return into drawing things, and I did take every art class at school that I could, however it took until 2003 that I started drawing more seriously. You see, at about that time, I had gotten to know the game series Megaman X, and read a very good fancomic at Iragination ([link]). That got me inspired to try drawing some Megaman characters myself... with less than stellar results. Since I was a bit disappointed at my drawing capability I didn't continue very long at that road, and eventually lost interest in the Megaman series.

Then, at around late-2003/early-2004 (I forget which) I got into the Sonic games for the second time in my life, and this time I actually played them myself, so I got far more into them... (I also found the site [link]) and tried doing some drawings of, well, Tails mostly. At first I did a couple drawings using reference, and they came out ok, I suppose... Anyway, the real spark that got me to draw a whole lot came in quite a strange form, as I came across a browser-based online kung-fu game (seriously) and it had the option to add custom avatars. And not just a single personal picture, but you could set the Victory, Lose and Draw-portraits as well!

And there I was, happily chugging along, doing silly little doodles of Tails for all of the portraits, and replacing them occasionally. And then the site broke. Oh well. Since I was drawing a lot more now, I thought about looking for an art site of some kind, and came across Deviantart at May 22 2004 (a week after my birthday, interestingly enough). I still wasn't very good at character drawings at that time, and was looking to get better at it, when I started reading the webcomic Final Sunrise([link] by S'Zero Alaris, AKA S0lar1x) in the summer, and in there were once a couple of character drawing tutorials, that really helped me get forward, and when I started reading Freefall([link]) and Stolen Generation(by Kitfox Crimson, can't find it anymore though), which were both linked on FS, I got all the more inspired to try harder... Later on I nicked the way of drawing ears from someone I already forget, and it's all been downhill since then, as you can clearly see XD

Phew, that was long, well atleast now you know if you ever wanted to...

Well, as I said earlier, I got the new comp, and I have to say... it's awesome! Twice as fast as the old one, and even more so compared to the ancient lappy XD Now to find something to use all that power to... Crysis seems a little over the top at the moment, so I'll steer clear of that one... Supreme Commander on the other hand is running as smoothly as, umm, something that runs really really smooth x3

On my list of wacky events and mishaps that happened recently, I bought this USB HD to transfer data from my old computer... only to find out the price had dropped 3€ right that morning. Quite a timing eh? And speaking of time... my credit card expired about an hour ago, and I need to get a new one... too bad I haven't been able to find my passport anywhere, and don't have an ID XD so now, I have to manage for a while with the cash I have (very muchly enough for the time) as I get a new passport in about a week(I hope), and then have to wait for the credit card to get transfered to where I live, no way of getting it from where it is now, since I went and forgot to change the home office for something more... accessible :b

Living on my own sure is interesting.

First of all, I'm really sorry for bumping out unannounced for nearly a year... the only reason for it was the stress of having multiple gallery sites to check, and at one point, I just didn't bother updating, telling myself "I'll do it next time"... and it snowballed, until it was over the edge.

But then, this is not the time to remember bad things, and I honestly don't really want to talk about the issue, just wanted to tell you nothing happened to me...

So yeah, a poor decision, I should've stayed at the site I started at, but didn't... so I guess the only thing to do now is start again from where I left off, and get the backlog of images here. I'll see wether I'll dump them all at one time, or spread them over a couple days... nahh.

Oh, by the way, otherwise I'm doing jolly fine, got to university, moved to another city, am getting a new computer, and got out of the army without losing anything

last week there were too many things for me to write out and now I don't know what to say... it's just that this has been quite a big change, maybe even too big for me. I'm feeling even more indifferent and uninterested about goings and gettings in my free time than before, and now that I do have a chance for it, I'm doing almost nothing productive, I just am here... right now I feel going to civil service might be so much better than being in the army, I'd rather get bored to death in the dull, low-paying work I could get there, than go nuts, or become somehow crippled. yes, crippled, my legs aren't quite used to the sudden increase in all this movement, and thanks to our unit being in the third floor of the building, and there being those individuals who don't seem to care much of anything, we get to run up and down them somewhat often, and it isn't doing any good to my knees along with all the kneeling we have to when we're dissassembling and assembling our assault rifles, and doing other activities. So yeah, I might quit this place, or not. It hasn't exactly been "too much" for me yet at any point, and they do let those who aren't as quick as the others to slow down if they want, but still, the expectations are quite high... I think I'll go talk with the social councellor that works there, to discuss wether it's a good idea for me to continue. I really have big doubts on that.

Anyway, about the assault rifle we have, it's a pretty nice thing, and on a 150m firing range with 10 shots, I managed to get 72 points from an area that would have given over 90 points had the sights been set right, but enough of that.

...

I guess I'll just submit what drawings I have, but thanks to fatigue and little free time, I haven't drawn much at all, and only 2 of them are anyway good, so there isn't much for me to put up here... oh well, I suppose you'll just have to manage somehow :b

_________

so someone bought me a sub out of the blue, and I can't tell who it was thanks to my E-mail adress, that was tied to a magazine subscription, expired, and I forgot to change my settings here... well, now I've got another adress set up, but I should look into getting the old adress back, since I'm still ordering the magazine, just there were some ordering mishaps along the way(gotta remember to pay the bills in time), and there's also the fact it's been my main contact E-mail adress, so losing it is bad...

anyway, thanks to whoever gave that subscription, you know who you are... or do you? it seems like a weird thing to do that buying me a subscription when I hardly update anything anyway... but thanks. so, if the person who gave/bought that sub to me sees this, I'd like to know who it was

on other news(for some 2-3 weeks): we had snow, we had some more snow, I had a snowplowing accident, skin of the right hand thumb got peeled a little, some less snow, and now the snow is almost melted away... also, I accidentally burned the tip of my right ringfinger cooking, plus my right thumb has been slightly sore for some time. my right hand (the drawing/mouse hand) seems to be taking a beating in my use, only things with my left hand are the recently broken thumbnail (a little too long) and the way my old watch squeezed the wrist so now it's thinner than my right wrist.

oh, and my conscription starts in January. I'll be in the army and get to use guns and be yelled at. fun. civil service might've been a better idea though, even though of the year long service period, but since it was only 6 months if I went to army, I thought at the time it might be better... well, time will tell, civil service probably would've been something I'd not have liked doing, and in the army there's a good change I can get to use a gun! maybe.

I know that with every change there comes problems, but this is just ridiculous. I'm talking about how the new "popular" system works, as opposed to how the pieces shown on the frontpage were selected based on the amount of faves during that day, they're now selected based on how many times they were viewed... sure, that's probably a good idea on paper, if it weren't for the fact that every refresh of a page creates a "view" for a deviation now... just hire someone to press F5 2000 times and you're all set for fame! or flame, if the quality is anything like that of the one that ended up there due to this nifty "feature".

thus, if any of you(and I very highly doubt it, but still) think of doing that to any of my works, don't. now that think of it, this might actually backfire, but I don't think I have that fanatic people loving/hating my work yet? either way, I hope the front-page "popularity" gets reverted back to favourites, or the resfresh-glitch fixed somehow.
the other thing was, that I really didn't mention, but it appears things are going somewhat "normally" now, so there's no problem to be seen right away, and I'll be able to do things as I may for now... at some point I'll have to cool my net avtivity a bit and do some things that I really don't need to tell you about, so that's it.

umm... I talked about the issue a bit more, and now it appear it's not quite as severe as I thought, so I don't have to completely suspend my internet activity, but still considerably... so don't expect too much anyway, but I don't have to be totally gone, just not here all the time. I'll still keep from using any IMs except maybe weekends, and don't expect too many comments or replies either (as if I ever gave enough anyway...).

this is the second time this happens... a year ago I thought I might not get my connection back up until the summer, but I did, and now I thought I'd have to give up on using internet completely for the duration of the summer, but instead I can still use it, albeit with limitations... hoo'boy, it's a confusing place, this world of ours, you never know what might happen.

so, sorry to scare you all up like that, but I tend to overreact on some things... (atleast I don't have overreactions to bee-stings, or I'd probably be dead by now )

well, I'll be off trying to get things together

edit: forgot to mention, but I absolutely don't have time until... maybe June 10th.

I've come into a situtation that requires me to suspend my internet activities along with most of other computer activities as well. this situtation is going to last for a ... while, so don't expect much updates, almost no comments and definately no after this message.

the reason why things are like this are personal, so I won't talk about them here, I will tell, however that most of it involves me screwing some things up rather royally, so now I'm going to try and get it all back on track...

it might take months, even half a year if things are very bad, but I will come back eventually, unless I of course die until then, but that's not to be expected.

so... yeah, take care and keep living your lives, I'll try to scrape something together and put it here every once in a while.

see you later.

begone winter, come spring and dusty weather!

yes, dusty. now that the snow has melt away and the water from it mostly dried out, there's dust. everywhere. I don't like breathing grinded stone, so it's a little unpleasant to walk in town, but otherwise it's ok, since the good things that come with spring are also here. the sun is shining, first flowers are blooming(those crazy, little, yellow flowers) and birds are going absolutely nuts.

speaking of birds, i saw two magpies being chased by a cat on our backyard(which is in a pretty wild shape right now, you can even see occasional rabbits there). anyway, it was silly watching a cat attempting to ambush the two birds(often in plain view too) it would crouch there, wriggling its tail and exposing its teeth(to hiss probably), and pounce at them. the cat would never catch either of them, the magpies were smart enough to keep a distance of atleast 3 feet away from the cat and just flew away a bit when the cat came.

yeah, that kind of stuff going on in the outside world up here.

oh, and a further note one the wild backyard: there is atleast one woodpecker going about the nearby forest(so near it's actually all around), and a lot of these guys: [link] [link] [link] [link] [link]

yesss! got nothing more except two grade-raising attempts left of this school year and so Studentship Examinee #053 has completed his exams, the results still pending(i'm very worried about math, but screwing that up was my own fault, a huge mistake, not studying when i was supposed to).

but anyway, i almost didn't make it in time for today's exam (and you can't be late, you are either in time or not there :l ), since the buses were so snap on schedule, that the moment i saw the busstop, the bus just went past it -_-; well, through incredible amount of luck (and after a lot of cursing) i managed to get a ride from one of my schoolmate's parents, got to the english exam and happily did it in just over 2 hours(of 6) left with 1 hour to check the answers(you can't leave until after 3 hours), and another one to wait for the bus(again).

so... for now, i've got more free time than i know what to do with i guess i'll try to draw something, or maybe even try to learn that flashy animation/game gizmo
