I haven't been on here in over a month. I've been to Canada for a family visit and to the Central Cali Coast. So I have a few photos to upload. I have two trips planned for October and am looking forward to those. I just love God's creation and I just get so lost in all the beauty. As of late I have felt a desperate desire to go to the mountains.

I will visit Yosemite soon to get my fix. I'm also planning on entering some photos to the Yosemite Renaissance XXIV.

"The programs of Yosemite Renaissance are intended to encourage diverse artistic interpretations of Yosemite. Its goals are to bring together the works of serious contemporary artists that do not simply duplicate traditional representations; to establish a continuum with past generations of Yosemite artists; and to help re-establish visual art as a major interpretive medium of the landscape and a stimulus to the protection of the environment. Historically, the arts have played a very important role in the establishment of our State and National Parks. It is our hope that they can be just as important in future efforts to preserve and protect that heritage."--[link]

My trip and the deadline for entries work out perfectly. If my photos are selected for the exhibit they will be exhibited in the Yosemite Museum Gallery. gallery and then onto a road trip which includes a local gallery. I'm excited at the possibilities. With this crazy hobby that I love so much I really feel I would like to pursue the Fine Art route. There's so much to learn still! But I love what I do and am willing to learn however I can. I see this competitian as an opportunity to try my hand at preparing works for sale or display in a gallery setting. I'm also trying to locate more avenues in the community I live to get connected with other artists.

Thank you for viewing my work. I appreciate the support!

Anywho, now I'm taking a break from packing for my trip to see my family in Canadia! Woo! I'm really excited. I have one bag that is nothing but gifts! I haven't decided whether I will carry it on or check it, there's breakables! I finally get to give my parents the Christmas presents I got for them almost 3 years ago! I'll be back in 10 or so days.
I just uploaded quite a few summer shots from the beach. It was sort of a series but more of a learning experience. I knew in my mind's eye what I was trying to accomplish. I don't have all the technical knowledge I need to make things appear as I want them or to know if that which I imagine is even possible to capture (with the light, angle, equipment available). I would definately consider myself a beginner. I am constantly seeking to gain more knowledge and wisdom regarding photography.

These photos will be offered at the very least as postcards. Postcards are actually what I had in mind as I viewed each one and edited, especially the text, as it will be on the postcard. If I do a print there will be no text on the print. Anywho, I just love the playfulness of the sandy shots, the beauty of the beach, the wonder of the sun and the majesty of the ocean. Nature's glory sings a song to God.

Thanks for all the support I get from my family, friends, and others that I'm acquainting with here on dA. It's very appreciated and means a lot.

This year is flying by. It feels like there just isn't enough time in the day. I am reminded that we must slow down a little and take in moments as they happen and not be so caught up in the one that hasn't happened yet. We are blessed with each new rising sun and we should live each day as if it would be our last. That's a big challenge for me. I feel like I have so many obligations that I have to take care of that there's just not time enough to enjoy life. I need a vacation!

Anyway, I decided to enter 3 of my photos (because that's all I had printed before my hard drive crashed) into the local Fair. There were about 750+ submissions and many were great. I was a little surprised at some of the judge's choices, but I spoke with him and got to know him a little afterward and gained some idea as to why he chose what he did. Must not be an easy job to be the sole judge of 750 photos. They were separated by catagories and then classes within each catagory. Two of my photos won 2nd place ribbons which was pretty awesome. They were my two more traditional shots of the 3 and I was surprised that the 3rd didn't gain any recognition. But that just goes to show you that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

My entries were:
Yosemite Falls 07--took 2nd place in Amateur, Color, Scenic
Bridal Veil Falls 07--took 2nd place in Amateur, Color, Nature
Going Up--nada

Anywho, thanks to those who watch and support me. I don't have a lot of people watching me, but I appreciate those of you who do. Your comments and 's are appreciated. I do not take pictures because I want recognition for myself, I do so that God is glorified in me. He gave me a passion for His creation and for documenting it. My hope is that people see His amazing works and stand in awe of Him.

Well this week our hard drive decided it was being overworked and keeled over. I was in the middle of getting ready for the County Fair (I would have been entering about 15 photos, many of which never even made it to dA) so I had to put a halt on that.

I lost 6+ months worth of work, which let me tell you, is very depressing! I recieved my Nikon D80 at Christmas time and had not backed up any of the photos I'd taken. My most recent trip to Yosemite was on there, just waiting to get edited, uploaded and for the sake of my entries for the fair, printed. Fortunately I had 3 of my shots printed as a test, but why didn't I print my fav's?!

We bought a new internal hard drive and a big external hard drive so that when I save my pics on here I can immediately copy them to the external drive. Don't let a freak thing like that happen to you! Back up your photos! Either on CDs or external drives... you just never know. I had more pictures of dogwoods from Yosemite that no one will ever see, I can't get anymore dogwood shots until next March!

I guess the good news is: I have to go out and take more pics, and maybe 15 was too many for the Fair I don't know. I'm sad, but a friend of mine offered to work on it for a while and see if he can't get the photos off. When he heard that I had a lot on there he felt bad for me.

Anywho, I have no photoshop for probably a couple more days so I won't be putting anything up for a little bit. I've also been very seriously contemplating the purchase of a subscription, as I've never had one before! We'll see.

Thanks to all for the support, 's, comments and love!

Finally!

More photos! I have been so busy! The longing to take pictures has been so strong lately. The weather has been quite warm (unseasonably...) and the trees are in bloom and everything is budding with life! I drive 200-300 miles a week and I see the most beautiful scenery. I'm unable to stop most of the time due to the fact that I'm "on the clock" and have a tight schedule.

So I nearly exploded last night. I was dealing with a lot of stuff and I just needed to get out. I find such solace in nature, and have not been able to experience it in so long. So I threw on some grubby clothes and boots and went out for a trip through my backyard! The sun hadn't completely gone down yet and I needed to use a slow shutter to get the desired result, I realized I didn't have the use of my trusty tripod at the time so I had to improvise. Right now my backyard is pretty overgrown, so there were quite a few opportunities for interesting shots. My lack of tripod did hinder me a little. However, I found a step stool and used that for support.

I have noticed cats stalking through my yard from time to time and I wanted to see what they see... the untamed yard of busy people! I discovered things I hadn't seen before (I unfortunately don't spend much time back there) and my troubles melted away for the time. God is amazing. His creation is so beautiful and the way I just need my "nature fix" to find peace of mind at times. I enjoy my technologically advanced world to a degree, but I love the natural so much more!

Here are a few of the shots I took during my exploration/therapy session! Enjoy! And be blessed!

My brother actually has 2 arms. He virtually tagged me like a week or so ago. So since I'm killing some time and my camera is gone (temporarily), I thought I'd do this....

Thanks to Ca Affa Manin (my 2 armed brother)
Sorry if you get tagged. Just do it OK?

The Rules

The 1st player of this "game" starts with the topic "6 weird habits/things/hates about yourself" and people who get tagged MUST write a journal about their 6 weird habits/things/hates as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don't forget to leave a comment that says "you are tagged" in their devpage comments and tell them to read yours...

Six Weird Habits/Things/Hates

1. I'm pretty off the wall.

2. I can sleep for 15 hours if I want. I like it. I do it and then wonder what happened to my day!

3. I hate to clean the house, but I prefer it to be spotless.

4. It takes me 2 hours to get ready for the day, no matter how quickly I try to do it.

5. I'm pretty introverted until I get to know whether or not the person I'm relating to can handle my personality. (Refer to #1)

6. I'm nice.

I tag:

=grugster <--someone I watch... lovely nature shots

Greetings and salutations!

Just uploaded a bunch of photos from a trip to downtown Fresno, CA. They're the best of the bunch considering how little I knew about what I was doing. There were some lighting issues -ahem-. Anyway, I have some more shots on the way from the Grapevine area of California and also some smoke shots I took...weeee...those were fun...(it was INCENSE people!)

Thanks for checking out my work.
Be blessed!

Hello Hello and Happy Holidays to all.

I recieved my new camara recently and am very excited about the great quality my photos will now have due to the fact that I have a BUTTLOAD of megapixels and such. I pretty much exausted the 3.2 on my Coolpix. It was a great camara to begin with since I had no idea what I was doing before that. Now I have a much better camara a dSLR! I will be taking more serious photos and being more deliberate about what I put up. Anywho...I am accepting more serious criticism as I am taking my photography to a more serious level. I will also be experimenting more since I have the ability to do so much more. Anyway, that's enough about my fab camara.

Merry Christmas (Happy Jesus's Birthday!)
and have a wonderful New Year!

Hello hello...

I just wanted to inform you all that I am awaiting the purchase of an amazing camara which is why I haven't submitted anything recently. I do have a few I'll probably submit that I have on file prior to purchasing this camara. I am looking at a Nikon D80 and am absolutely thrilled about it! It will be 3x or more better than the camara I have currently been using. I'm not sure when I'll be getting it but it will be SOON! Look for new, more fabulous photos soon! Thanks for checking out my stuff. I appreciate it.

God bless you all during this holiday season,

Here again, not being one to do a lot of journal entries, to update anyone viewing my gallery as to what has gone on since I last wrote. I have now completed my Yosemite Series. It begins with a shot of Bridal Veil Falls, Yosemite in honor of my father. The entire series I dedicate to him, John Douglas Green, as well as my mom, Linda Parker, and my brother Anthony Green. Yosemite will always be a special place for the 4 of us. It will always be dear to us in such vast ways.

I want to thank my mom for all the strength and courage it took for her to raise up such different children in a far from ideal world. I am so grateful to you. I am thrilled to see how your life has drastically changed for the better! All you gave has not gone in vain. There are treasures for you. I thank my brother for being so different from the rest. You have been set apart for a reason. Search for the reason. Don't be afraid to stand alone... you will never truly be alone. I love you both and I don't know what my life would be like without you. I thank Randy, the man who never tried to be my "dad." Your courage to take on such a broken and hurting family baffles me. You are strong and I completely appreciate you and the way you take care of us. Thank you for choosing my mom and for choosing us. You are incredible and I admire your strength.

Well now that I have those 3 and myself in tears, I will say goodnight. I am on to different ventures! This chapter has been closed for now; only to be revisited numerous times throughout my life.

I will be beginning a book, most likely this will be a project that will span my life. My dad wanted to do one that consisted of photos of local (old) barns and their histories. I will have to do a lot of research and talking with locals on this project. I am very excited and will be jumping in soon. I will post some of the photos (not sure if I want to include all). It'll be a little while before I take serious shots as I'd prefer to use a camara with higher resolution and such.

Anyway, thanks and goodnight.

God bless you,

love,

I don't typically do journal entries, I don't really have a huge amount of adoring fans to write for...ha...yet. Anyway I wanted to explain the dozens of pictures I will be posting over weeks ahead. I'm trying to find time to 'finish' my photos from my trip to Yosemite.

This trip was a very, interesting trip. Yosemite holds something I will not be able to ever hold again. It has been 7 years to the month since I went to Yosemite last. This was an important event in my life, as I only live about 2 hours from the park, yet had not returned for years. We were originally going to camp, but the pass to Tuolumne Meadows was closed and that is the way to another camping destination. So we made a day trip. I took 200+ photographs, which, by the way, will not all be posted. I have been experimenting a lot with my camara; trying to get the best out of it. This is probably (of course depending on whether or not you want snow) the best time of year to go. There were some record breaking snowfalls that gave us gorgeous waterfalls. The rivers all full. I enjoyed all the untouched splendor of God's creation. I could have stayed for a long time. I understand now my Dad and Uncle's fascination of it. No, I should say passion for it. I get it now. I did not get it before.

It's incredible to play in snow, and then drive down 3000 feet and nap in a warm sunny meadow. We hiked to Happy Isles and through the fen. All lush and green and alive. Bridal Veil rained on us as we visited a special place, only to discover a new special place. We're planning another trip as my friend got a year pass to all the national parks. We WILL camp. We're praying for the rockfalls to stop. Two highways were closed due to rockfalls/avalanches.

I have such a better appreciation for the things nature holds. There are many lessons to be learned. One = don't play on melting snow. Two = a meadow in the afternoon is the best place to nap! Three = that which appears strong, isn't always as it first seems.

Sorry about the ramblings...
God bless...

I have so many pictures I have just failed to put them up. I feel like I have failed on so many levels lately. Some of my friends probably wonder what happened to me. TOO BUSY. It's going to get a little more sane here pretty soon. Praise God! I got a new job and now I get 3 day weekends. I don't have to be there until 2:00pm today. It's great. Well that was a major tangent. The point is GOD is GOOD and I have new pictures coming, some have snow!

God bless and keep you,
