I mean, one day, the leaves were beautiful and colorful and the next day, they were gone, just like that. I manage to get some captures but not alot as I as hoped. Oh well...now, I wait for the snow to fall. This year is very important for me as this is my fist year back from my Deployment.
Yesterday was a great day for shooting waterfalls! I spent half the day in Pennsylvania at BushKill Falls, "The Niagara of Pennsylvania". They have a total of 8 waterfalls there, the main one, a large Gorge and others are known as the "Bridal Veils" falls. The whole hike around takes a total of 2 hours to do and you hike up steep rocks and down slippery slopes. Here I am carrying my camera on my tripod. It was worth every second!

I am planning some trips in the fall back to Gettysburg and to Bushkill falls for the fall foliage change. This is my first fall back since being deployed and I am extremely happy to be back here with my camera in hand! I am looking forward to capturing this years change and sharing it with all of you!

Till then, I hope all of you are doing well!

Stephen

The one thing that stuck out to me the most was the incredible sky they have down there. everyday there were massive thunderstorms and lightning strikes. The clouds alone amazed me when I saw them and I managed to capture some.

Other than that, I am back in NY, where we are getting some rain from the passing tropical storm, gah!
It was a great and interesting trip for me. I am grateful to my wife, who brought me here for my birthday. I love history, namely the Civil War and it was so surreal to be there. There I was standing on the same ground where 53,000 men died during July 1-3 of 1863. This trip was emotional for as I did have some family in the war. I took as many pics as i could and have many more that I need to go through. For the time being though, I worked on as many as I could and posted for you all to see. I am off to relax the rest of the night and will be back tomorrow to work on some more!
Human beings are capable of the most unimaginable beauty and creations yet, they are capable and willing to create the most horrific things such as war and hatred. You would think through time, we would come unto some understanding of it all. In so much, we would want to evolve into a higher state of mind. There are those that believe and then there are those that want to live for controversy. This is why, in my belief Aliens, beings from another world would not attack us. Rather, they will sit and just watch us destroy ourselves. I like to call it Intergalactic Pay Per View.

This is why in fact I do not watch the news or care to join a movement in society. I like being me and having my beliefs, hurts no one. It felt like yesterday, I was leaving for the destination for a long 6-7 month deployment. In that 6 months, I made some good friends and created a bond with a great group of guys that will never be understood by many people. Now, that this deployment has ended and have to get back into my normal life, I find it hard at times. Being back, my passion for my art has increased. It was an interesting 7 months being deployed and being active duty again. I was with a great group of guys and that made the whole difference. I must admit, it is a culture shock to be back here in the states. I am still in a surreal thought, feeling like I am going to wake up from this dream and be back at Manas Air Base. Anyhow, now that I am back, I am taking sometime to myself and time to get behind the lens. So, it's time to dive back into the world that I love, Photography. I am looking forward to coming home and starting my life with my beautiful Wife, Vanessa. I am happy that i will be home in time for the spring and I will have some new equipment for my camera to play with when I get home!

Thank you all for you support while I was here and thank you for looking at my gallery and being friends! After all 3 in the morning comes quick when you go to bed at 1000,lol. Anyways, I have a month to go before I am home and back with my wife and family for good. I just have to get through this month and then Febuary will be a breeze because I leave. It has been a busy last year with this deployment and at home for my wife. Our house was broken into and they violated my wife's safe haven and took matreial items. The Positive end though was that she found an Old Revoutionary war home that was for rent in upstate NY. Fate had worked her magical hand and blessed us with a new place to live.

It has been a tough year but now we have a new one to begin. I certainly am taking this new year and beginning on a new note with my life and family. I have alot of things to take care of when I get home, my wife being the proiority. She has been so busy and has carried the burdens whileI have been here. She deserves alot when I get home and I plan on giving it to her.

In other things, I want to finish my education and get a better paying job when I get home as well. After all, I am not getting an younger. I have less than 2 months here now and i am happier than a pig in his own slop at this point...lol.

When I get home, I plan on picking up my camera and starting a whole new series of Spring shots for the site and for you all to enjoy. So with that said..I hope all of you enjoy the start of your new year and I hope that you are all blessed and you all rach your goals.

Stephen

The human spirit needs places where nature has not been rearranged by the hand of man. ~Author Unknown

A couple of days ago I called my wife to find out that our apartment was broken into and they ran off with our televisions and her jewelery. She was really destroyed about it because she had just bought a new TV. I was very angry and wanted the heads of those people on my mantle, however, I will leave that upto the Yonkers PD to figure out and well, I hope they are captured.

They always say that a postive comes through after a Negative and well, it did. My wife called me this morning to tell me that we are moving into a new apartment and she has already given them the security deposit and she will sign the lease this Sunday. She told me that the apartment is a house from the Revoutionlary War times and the town we are going to live in is Historic as well as an artsey town, similar to greenwich villagve in NYC. So, I am excited about the move and when i get home, I start in a new place.

Though it may have been crappy, something positive came out of this whole mess. I am just happy that my wife is okay and safe. I must say, she is the strongest woman that i know and can bounce back from anything. I ma proud of what she has accomlished and how far she has come. As well, she has been strong through this deployment. I can't wait to come home and hold her and embrace her.

Well, I hope all of you have a great week and weekend and you all are preparing for a great holiday season where ever you are. till then, Godspeed and goodnight!

Stephen

The human spirit needs places where nature has not been rearranged by the hand of man. ~Author Unknown

A great photograph is a full expression of what one feels about what is being photographed in the deepest sense, and is, thereby, a true expression of what one feels about life in its entirety. ~Ansel Adams

You all have been really nice to me here on DevArt and I am eternally thankful for all the support that I am receiving here. i have made some great friends from all around the globe on here and I tell you it is awesome how Artist from every part of the world can connect through photography. Photography is a universal medium that we all can talk about and needs no interpeter. Pictures speak for themselves. That why I love being a photographer and being on here. Because on here we all have the same love and taste, photography. Here we can igore the oustide world and be free to be ourselves without being judged.

When I leave here from this military deployment, I plan on going into graphic design and photography full time as I find myself so passionatly in love with it. I do not see myself in an office cubicle having my life sucked away one day at a time. No sir! I am looking forward to going home and leaving the military behind me. As i am really tired of the B.S and politics that go along with it and well, I hate war and fighting.

Anyways, thank you all for your comments and support with my work. I will do the same for all of you that support me. I will support you 100%!

Well, guys and gals, have a great day and i will see you all later!

Stephen

The human spirit needs places where nature has not been rearranged by the hand of man. ~Author Unknown

Since being deployed over here I have had some time taking photos of where i am. Mainly because I work 12 hours shifts and sleep and eat and thats it. So...I have my hard drive with me and was taking the time to go through some archives and look through some old photos that i really never looked at or worked on. I found many that were to me hidden jems that I over looked. I was amazed to find so many that I just over looked. It was kinda exciting to find them and to work on them. This is sort of my Zen and mediation here. To listen to some music and work on some photos that mean alot to me.

Thank you all for you adding some of them to your Favorites, it means alot and i thank you once more for your kindness with words as well.
Hello all...well, it was a long 2 weeks in the New Mexico Desert and now it is over and I am happy to be home. The training was fair and well, the hard part was dealing with the weather down there. Wearing a protective vest that holds ceramic plates, when on can weigh upto 40 pounds with gear was the killer part.

Of course, at night if you had to potty, you had to walk out to the latrine and as you mdae your way there, you had to be careful where you stepped because there were some tarantulas walking around. As well as some rattle snakes that were chillen..so yeah, it was kinda crappy at times but the friendship with the team was great and we had a great time, even though it sucked being down there....

I had the oppurtunity to spend a relaxing couple of hours at the Botanical gardens today. It was beautiful and not too hot for a nice walk. I managed to get some beautiful photos. There was a Darwin exhibit today that showcased his garden and experiments. It was a great time and I learned alot from it. I will be proceeing the photos later tonight as i am not home at this moment.

Times have been quiet lately as I am preparing for a 6 month deployment overseas come this fall. So, as you can imagine, I do not have the time to take as many photos as I could. But today, I had the pleasure to take some beautiful photos and I will gladly be sharing them later tonight.

One more thing, I do appreciate the heads up about one of my photos being used with out permission. I found out the hard wy today when someone told me that they saw my work being used and there were minor changes made to it. I have no problems sharing my work with other artist but if you want to use them, please ask permission or I will have to report it. It unfair to the artist that spent time and effort cretaing that one piece of work. To take it and make minor changes and call it yours is rather upseting and it will not be tolerated. Thanks for all the support! it is greatly appreciated! Have a great week and i will see you all later with some new photos!

Stephen

I love to think of nature as an unlimited broadcasting station, through which God speaks to us every hour, if we will only tune in. ~George Washington Carver

Well, I had the chance today to spend time at the Bronx Zoo. It was a great day and it was free to get in on Wedsenday, the downfall though was the multitude of Germlins or Kids as they are know as. There so many from schools visiting and doing the field trip thing. So, i went from having a good day to having a medicore day. I only manged to get into the Butterfly garden and in Gorilla area for photos. Everywher else was crowded and the Tigers were sleeping off somewhere, smart ones. And as I stood along side these kids, I over heard alot of them talking....their not that smart...all they care about was their cell phones and I Thingys and thats it...they had no care or astonishment for wildlife...if this is our future...we are in trouble. Well, to make a long story short, I got some reasonable photos of the Butterflies and Gorillas. I will be posting them later on tonight for all to see.

Later,
Stephen

As I photographed some things yesterday, I decided i wanted a lower shot of the creek that I was in. I found a prime spot that was calling my name. A nice big rock that in the middle of the creek and gave me a great view. As i climbed down the side, I lowered myself onto the rock. everything was going well until i felt my feet slip. I taught that I had catched myself. My feet shuffled again and WOOSH! I went flying up in the air, landing sqaure on my back. Luckily I held the camera to my chest and she was okay. In my other hand was the lens cap, sadly to say, it went flying into the creek as I did. It was quiet painful and funny. My whole right side was soaked as my small bag that I carry. When I got to see my wife, she asked, are you okay? i just mumbled and grunted. She did get a picture of me soaking wet. Anyways, I have figured that you should be careful around wet rocks when wanting that photograph, yes, you have to make sacrafices, sometimes painful ones but it be can worth it, yet painful in the end!

The Yankee game was awesome last night. It was a close game and in the end the Yankees pulled it off and won. It was great. The better part was being in the bleachers. There is alot to see and well, experience there, just as long as your not a Boston fan, it's fun. Anyways,

I spent the day again in my favorite place, Sleepy Hollow. It was quiet and there was no one to bother me. It was a qaint and quiet experience that I always enjoy. You need that time to yourself and to be away from the city life and well, the annoyance of life itself. I took some wonderful pics that I hope will come out beautiful. They will be posted sometime tonight or tomorrow.

Well, friends, have a great night or day, depending on where you are at.

Your Humble Friend in Art,
Stephen

Well, my laptop is officially on it's way out. The internal speakers are emitting an high pitched sound and the connection to my powersupply seems to be flickering on and off from time to time. So, i have had to download Photoshop and my Canon Utilities to my Wife's new laptop, God, Thank her. I am going to try and salvage my old lap top through the Geek Sqaud at Best Buy. So, hopefully my baby does not need to be put to sleep yet.

Anyways, my wife got tickets to see the Yankee and Red Sox game tonight. So, yes, we are loyal Yankee fans and will be with the Bleacher Creatures tonight, yelling obnoxiuously at the Boston fans in the crowd, lol. Anyways, I will be doing a day out tomorrow with my camera and hopefully I can capture some of spring's blooming. Till then guys and girls, Peace.

Your Friend in Art,
Stephen

As I look at my gallery and just take it in, I am often reminded of what Inspires me to take photographs. For me, it is Nature and Wildlife. The wonders around us that many of overlook on an everyday basis. From the smallest plant to the largest Mountain. They are around us and they want us to admire them and look at them. The camera for me is the universal translator. An image is truly worth a thousand words. What Inspires you? What makes yu pick up your camera and go out and do what you do?

It's easy if you Try...

Friday, I had the opportunity to go to the bear Mountain Zoo. As many of you know, I spend a lot of time there and at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. They are 2 of my favorite places to be and to photograph. I was at the zoo and it was on a Friday and I had the place to myself, it was great. As you can see by the photos, the wildlife was more than willing to pose for the lens. I was lucky some might say. Anyways, I am hoping that with spring here, the plants bloom and we get some color back into Nature. Thanks to all of you here for the support. You guys rock and I want to thank you for being friends, even though some of you live across the ocean. Art though has no boundaries.

So Thanks Guys!

You Rock!

It's easy if you Try...
