THE BASICS: write a Christmas/Holiday wish list. It can be any 10 wishes you'd like to have granted, no matter what they are. Possible or seemingly impossible. People look and grant the wishes if they can. It's not about "OMFG PRESENTS", it's about making someone else's holiday a little brighter by giving. Personally, I get more out of giving than receiving sometimes. It's just a good feeling to give.


STEP ONE

** Make a post in your journal. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fun ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

** If you wish for real possible things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you. In this case, you can always just note someone on dA.

** Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your journal, so that others can join in and participate to spread the holiday joy!


STEP TWO

** Surf around your friend list to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

** If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

** You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

So I was sick for about a week, and I'm still getting over the sickness, but doing much better. I haven't done any writing or much drawing, but I've been thinking up a few ideas and characters (see newest deviation) so I haven't been slacking off completely. But mostly, yes, I have been slacking off by reading Sherlock Holmes and playing Partners in Time and Yoshi's Island. Seeing as I beat PiT and have grown tired of 100ing YI stages, I may return to writing soon. Maybe. Ideas need to come first.

I've also been watching movies, namely, Coraline and Watchmen. Who else loves those movies? (Even though Watchmen is a painstaking 3 hours long, and features too much of Dr. Manhattan than I cared to see.) I've already watched Coraline at least four times, just so I can catch the little hidden things, but so far I've missed them all. I forget I'm keeping an eye out for details because the story is so enthralling. I'll remember one day, though. One day.

And speaking of Sherlock Holmes, I'm trying to read all the stories before Christmas so I can watch the upcoming movie starring Robert Downey Jr. and not worry about spoilers. I thought the trailer was... interesting. I can't judge it until I see it, I suppose. In any case, Jude Law looks like a good Watson to me. I'm about half way through, with 30-something stories left. I just finished the Memoirs about a week ago. (Very interesting ending.) So, unless I get lazy, I shall accomplish my goal.

And so this journal has some point besides my ramblings, and to reward you for reading this far, I put this forward:

If a character has a British accent but the universe in which this series takes place has no United Kingdom or any sort of real world country, how would that work and how can one describe those characters of having such an accent?

These characters of mine have been known to have those accents for years and I'd rather not change them to having "normal" accents.

I love how this looks like a scene from a story. I can just imagine what they're saying, and what's going on, etc. Nice bold, vibrant colors, too.

Onto the point of the journal; only three days until a dream comes true *MariettaRC visits for three weeks. :3 We'll have the best Christmas ever, and we'll take tons of pictures.

I've been unable to get to sleep at night because of how excited I am; and I keep thinking about it 24/7. Makes the days go SLOWLY... So I'll try to keep myself busy, because there's lots more to do to prepare for her visit.

I spent literally all day yesterday doing laundry, we're going grocery shopping today or tomorrow, and I plan to vacuum and dust either Saturday or Sunday. THEN MORE WAITING.

It's OCTOBER. Crap, September went fast. Although, that's a good thing! Gotta get to December quickly! Christmas will be good.

Anyway, just a random journal to say a few things.

I got my driver license manual, I've been reading through it. Finally to some interesting stuff; signs, etc. Had to get through all the boring "what licenses are what" stuff. I also found out that they changed the law from getting a permit at 15 and 7 months to 15 and 6, so I can get the permit as soon as I'm ready.

Of course, I'll make sure to make a journal freaking out about that before I go for it.

I also think I'm getting sick. I woke up with a cough, and I think my head feels a bit warm. I just got over a nasty cold, too. ;_; *guzzles down the orange juice*

And... I need to draw more. Besides the paper children I've been dumping into my scraps. I need ideas... maybe I should get some Halloween drawings done.

Okay, pissy-whiny journal over. Sorry you all had to see that.

Onto less pissy business, however, still whiny business. I can get my permit next month (on the 23rd to be exact). I glanced at the driver's manual online, and I don't think I can memorize all that. It'll probably be easier once I get the manual in hand though, I retain knowledge better that way.

Still, I'm almost positive I'll fail.

And even if I pass, I still have to do the license test (once I turn 16) to get a license. That means a small course test, and driving around with an instructor. I get nervous around strangers; especially adults judging my every action.

I'm mostly freaking about the permit test, however. I know it seems easy, but I've never had a test in my whole life. I don't know how to study. D:

Anyway, though, I'm sure I'm just making more of it than it is. I should be confident... confident...

... there's also the fact that if I fail the license test three times, I have to wait a year to try again...

Edit: And the more I think about it, I wouldn't mind some recommended book titles as well; it's been too long since I've read a good book! No specifics here, I'm open to almost anything.

Eventually, when I get some more online allowance, I plan to buy some manga. Among a few titles I already have in mind (Hellsing, Rurouni Kenshin, Yu Yu Hakusho, Ouran High School Host Club, Kikaider Code 02) I'd like something new and exciting.

So, any suggestions from you people? I'm more into actiony, serious mangas, but I'm not opposed to light hearted funny ones. I'm extremely open to popular and less popular ones as well. As long as it's a good read.

And if you know anything about the titles I mentioned earlier, please give me your two cents on those. I'd like to know if they're any good. (Specifically Kikaider and Host Club.)

Despite being very disappointing ( How did it go from THIS to what it is now?? ), Spore isn't a bad game. I'm enjoying it; Civilization is my favorite stage. A big gripe I have is how much my planets get raped in Space Stage. I've heard a lot of complaining about that though, so maybe it'll get patched.

Striders are from Half-Life 2. I think of them as walking gunships. Walking Gunship. lolo. Gunship, I just liked how it sounded for a MS character, and it stuck for forums/registering for crap.

03. Do you use PC or Mac?
PC.

04. What programs do you use most often?
Art programs? Paint Shop Pro 9, OpenCanvas, MSPaint. Writing? MS Word 2003.

05. Do you use mouse, or tablet?
Tablet, but mouse for some minor things.

06. What color or color combinations do you find yourself using most often?
Depends on the characters I draw... but I think I subconsciously use the color red a lot.

07. What part of a picture do you put most effort into?
Stealing *IanMeta's answer; the face. The eyes more specifically for me, because they're fun to draw. Other than that, I try to make the clothes look nice.

08. How long does it take you do draw a picture?
Depends. I never spend more than 2 hours or so on a pic, though, I'm not that professional.

09. Do you keep your rough drafts?
Yup.

10. What font do you use most often?
Bradley Hand ITC is my favorite (my header has it!). Otherwise, I use Comic Sans or Garamond.

11. When you scan your image, what DPI do you use?
300.

Listen to music, listen to/half watch TV, drink something, snack on chips/etc.

13. Approximately how many pictures do you draw in a month?
Depends on when artist's block hits.

Sketch paper, mostly. Sometimes drawing paper. For paper children, printer paper.

Same as above. Except for new character designs, ALWAYS use sketch paper for it.

Depends on how big it is, but about an hour or so?
