I am looking through my journals, my (defunct) blogs, my posted stories, my (xenocentric) art and I know that all those times I made use of the freedom of speech that I have so taken for granted ever since I could write or talk. I've made use of these things to express myself, to convey thoughts, or simply to rant. I'm on my instant messenger, passing stories around. I never really thought that I owed these things to anybody.

Now that I think about it, I do, right?

I wouldn't write my blogs if it weren't for the freedom you stood for. I don't think I'd even know what a blog was for. I was very young when my own mother brought me to that fated road, and I had no idea why I was there, or what the tanks were for. I didn't know that at that moment, everyone else around me had their hearts on their sleeves, and their guts in their throats. I didn't know why I was eating pan de sal with Star Margarine in the middle of the street. I didn't know why I wore a yellow dress with a yellow ribbon on my arm.

Now, as I tie yellow ribbons all over my car, I am thankful to the pleasant housewife whose passing the world mourns. I am thankful that I can write. I am thankful for everything I have taken for granted. I am connected with the rest of the world through what verbal (and artistic) diarrhea I put out on the Internet, and I am grateful. I am thankful that I know. You might not have been the one to guide my pencil with your hands, but you have given me---and others like me---the possibility. The chance.

You might not have taken me through the self-odyssey that was 2008, but thank you, nonetheless, because the prayer you made has affirmed something I had been asking myself, that I was not alone in it. I've jumped onto the bandwagon today, I suppose so, but it's one I shall be happy to stay on for a long time. I don't think it's something I'll regret.

Thank Him, also, for making you Filipino like me. I don't think I could bring as much dignity to the race in my whole body as you carried in your graceful little finger. You showed me the dignity good ladies, good PEOPLE should aspire to, the same one that earned you the respect of American congressmen in 1986.

I don't know what the future holds, for me or for the people bereaved of its "Mom". But thank you for showing me that what I enjoy now is a privilege, a gift, something worth protecting and preserving.

I wonder if I would be able to keep it up this time. I've been making a lot of artwork and I haven't posted anything... I've been working the past year and I haven't exactly put anything up. It's actually quite bad since my DA's still my 'online portfolio' where my CV's concerned. Real bad. And here I was ready to look for a 'real' job, whatever that means.

I was thinking of making a little wishlist, but you know what? I think I'll make a brag list.

NOT.

But seriously, I've got a lot of things to be thankful for, and almost an equal number of things to be hopeful for.

1. I'm thankful for getting some things I need. But I hope that I could put these things to the particular use I first needed them for. I don't want to stagnate.

2. I'm thankful for getting some things I want. But I hope I could really learn to appreciate what it really means to receive these things.

3. I'm thankful for little blessings I received this season, and come to think of it, this year so far too. I just wish I could be a blessing to someone the same way some people were to me.

4. I'm thankful for the people who make things possible for me. I just hope I could be able to be thankful for people who make my life a living hell in the same capacity, as sometimes they are one and the same person.

5. I'm thankful for the long vacation work gave me. I just hope I don't break before I get another one.

...Well, now that I think about it, all those events happening for me probably stopped me from writing in the journal. I hate it when that happens, no matter how inevitable that is.

So, what HAS happened this year?

Yoh's been traded in for Kona.

I traded in my job leading to nowhere for a state of nowhere leading somewhere. If you can't keep track of that statement, you're not insane. YET.

I got a coffee maker. No trades here, but I love it. SO MUCH.

I made new friends. Again, no trades here. At least I hope not.

I've traded in my Wacom pen for a real pencil, several sketchbooks, and a better outlook.

I realized I can sing. My friends know I have a HUGE insecurity issue here, and well, I think I've admitted now that yes, I can sing. But not in the way you guys think. I'm still a wimp at singing songs everyone knows.

I'm writing again.

I realized that I am still at the end of a long chain of command, and with that, I realized that I need a revoulution.

2008 hopefully will be a year I can look forward to, and hopefully my butt cooperates when I haul it out of bed to DO something.

And hopefully next year becomes something. For you and me both.

I've been very busy lately, and I haven't been able to go on the internet, much less go visit devart. At any rate, in my penniless state, I would just like to leave you guys with another translation to a song. I've been hooked on it ever since I first heard it (just ask my friend Richard Tan... or not.).

Anyways, in the Philippines, the Christmas season is very much punctutated with fireworks, firecrackers and whatever pyromaniacs can manage to eke out from working hard the rest of the year. (In Japan, though, fireworks, or hanabi, is very much a summer thing.)
This is for all you people who, like me, send dreams of all kinds everytime the fireworks fly.

This is a song by one of my new favorite bands, Ikimono Gakari. It's called "Hanabi", and yeah, I found the translation just now. It was a good way to round out my Christmas, since my translating skills are still poor.

I'm still caught up in my Bleach frenzy, that's for sure.... My friend got me the Kon and Ichigo dolls. ^_^ they so cute.

I have an MG Strike Rouge and and MG Freedom. They're on display in my office. It's a good thing my office hasn't kicked me out for displaying non-studio toys. Well, I DO have a tiny, tiny figure of Nami and Chopper, to save a bit of company pride. They're standing next to a 5-inch mini fig of Cagalli Yula Athha.

I'm taking the JLPT next year, for Level 3. Hopefully I manage to pass.

I'm a year older.
Wiser? I don't know.
Cynical? Not yet.
More inspired? Maybe.
Know more kanji? Definitely.

Have I improved?

I'll get to that question in a few years. Say, seventy.

Still no means of uploading any of my work onto DA... *sigh* i've been so busy (read: LAZY) and I haven't made take home any of my work to scan. On top of that, I've been coming home uber-late and uber-pooped, so the LAST thing I want to do after staring at a lightbox all day is to stare at a lighted box (ie. the monitor) all night. Meh.

*eherm* since it IS almost Christmas, I think I'll be making a wishlist. Well, I'm not expecting ANYTHING from anybody on DA *cough cough*, but it's fun to list down things you want but could never have. ^_^ For now, anyway.

Sylvaene's Christmas Wishlist:
1) World Peace. (take note, things I WANT but COULD NEVER HAVE.)

2) A Perfect Grade Gundam Strike Rouge. (It's just sitting there in Toy Kingdom. I'm pretty confident it would stay there for quite some time, because come on, who'd shell out Php 15k for some plastic toy you have to build?)

3) The 1/144 scale Gundam Strike Rouge. (We-ell, I thought I could get this easy, but it seems to be as ubiquitous as the Holy Grail. So yeah, it's wishlisted.)

4) A brand-new Toyota Vios. (It's my perfect match driving-wise. Enough said.)

5) To never see that other guy at work set foot in the office again. (I know, I DID list World Peace, but I wish for him to be peaceful somewhere else. I'm a horrible little cat.)

6) A Creative Zen 1GB mp3 player. Or any other player that has the "repeat" mode. And an LCD screen, so at least I know what I'm listening to.

7) The Toei regular employee's Christmas bonus this year. *bawls incessantly*

Well, what has been happening?

For one thing, well, I've got work. @_@ I'm working in the most expensive city in this country, and with meager financial supply and a delayed salary, I'm in what some of you would call a hellish situation. But it's fun, the people are nice (most of the lower life forms like me are, anyway) and my bunnypuppy's here with me.

Guess I could really say that as long as my puppy's there, I can handle most anything. ^___________^

Anyway, I'm doing two jobs (video editor/graphic designer) and on my meager (and nonexistent) salary, I think I'm not getting enough. But it's okay.

And I'm getting the car this evening. Whee. While it's just an old Corolla, I think it'll do okay. ^__________^

We'll be getting a car soon... it's been long overdue. It'll be a second-hand car, but that's already great. Anything in good running condition and has a decent stereo I will take, as soon as I get one of those cassette adaptor thingies...

In animation class, we're going to try and do a 'folder' now... A folder has all the scenes that you'll be doing, with notes from the director and an X-sheet and the animator's drawings. Now I have to 'tween them. Y_____________Y one by one. ^__________^ but that's okay, that's fun. I just wish I had a lightbox at home... Y_______Y

anyway.... well, as you can see up there, I've been slaving away at a lightbox for the past two weeks, looking at model sheets, looking for off-model things, correcting... and I haven't even started working yet. ^_^0 top that off with a horrible throat infection and you've got quite a cocktail to carry you thru the week. ^^ but the animation bit is quite fun. It's funny how I dun need too many strokes to make a picture anymore... and how my new sketches start looking more and more like what I see on TV/read in manga. To the people who tell you that there's no actual magic in animation, lemme tell you this: the magic happens when you next put pencil to paper for yourself, believe me.

anyway, I've been going around, disseminating my resume.... since DA's acting as my portfolio, I guess I should put up my more recent work... what I have here is as new as blue cheese...

Anyway... what has been going on?

Well, I'm hooked on the Bleach manga (the manga's waaaay funnier than the anime, though the anime has some perks of its own), and my Internet connection sucks major ass (why did I 'try' this new internet again? )

I've been trying to get "Life Is Like a Boat" on my guitar... it's a very nice song, musically and otherwise. I can sing it, yes... though I sound like Rie Fu with pharyngitis. Ergh. ><

To me guildmates: I'm playing RO again! Ilona and Evrael and I are in Amatsu right now, and it's fun there...

And I have a digital camera. It's not an SLR (It's a Panasonic Lumix LC43, with a Leica aspheric lens) it's an effective 4.0 megapixels (a little typical, since most digital SLRs have 7.0 mp up... ) but it's okay for some of the stuff I've been doing. I mean, my monitor size is 1024x768 pixels. I dun think it can handle a 2304xsomething pixel picture...

..okay, before I go geekoid, I'll go on with the updates. XD well, my animation training's going okay, I guess... my instructor's wondering what the hell I'm doing in his class.... don't ask me why. He says I should be handing out resumes already. *blush* And Gawd, I can actually draw Sailor Moon-looking art. it's so... un-me... >< besides, I had to copy this Sailor Moon-looking drawing...

anyway, yeah, I'm actually going to start my animation training on April 4... I think it's gonna be an M-W-F thing, around 2-5 pm... but that's okay. I think it's gonna be fun.

What's troubling me is that, well, my mom, on one of her spur-of-the-moment things, enrolled me in the swankiest gym in the Philippines... -_____________-;;;;;; and I think part of my training fee's gone into the one-year membership. -________-;;
I'm not complaining, I have unlimited access to the facilities (which means I can take a shower when I feel the mall has become too crowded or sticky ), and I can take all the classes I want (yoga to Pilates to Spinning to Box on Board... @________@), but I just thought it was done in too little time, and decided upon with too little.. well, mind. ><

....oh well, at least I can actually complement my 'healthy eating' stint with some exercise! ^^

It always seems to be an on-off love affair between me and Word... I hope this time I stick around more for the good stuff.

To those who know a little about my V4H series (that's Vampire for Hire ^^), I've gotten over the hard drive crash heartbreak. And I'm ready to rekindle old flames. ^^

And to those who know me well: Drive comes easily for me. Passion? not quite. ^^ I've had a hard time letting all my emotion out, since my emotions have been controlled ever since I could remember. It's just funny that I've only started knowing what true passion is twenty-one years down the line, and with the help of a few select people.

I'm not gonna go into detail here. Let's just say that the sight of a Big Mac or a Quarter Pounder will make me puke. I was coughing up my green tea when I watched it....

Anyway, I'm kinda glad that I haven't had fastfood in a while. It's just.... blech.

Mind you, I'm NO health advocate bull.... Something about new-looking 10-week-old fries just makes my stomach churn.

1. I quit that job as a video editor in that children's studio. I DID apply for the photographer job. it paid peanuts for a job I didn't really like. How much challenge do you get out of editing a wedding video?

I know it's been a while since I actually submitted anything now, but it's largely due to the fact that the REAL WORLD has sucked me in. *that sounded so cheesy*

anyway, yeah, I HAVE been looking for a job. My mom isn't quite in the best disposition to work, much less take care of an overgrown gorilla's needs. So, I've decided to find myself some work.

I tried a call center. They want me to go into sales. SALES?! I can't even sell a toothbrush to someone whose mouth is teeming with tartar.

I tried getting into a gaming company. The position has suddenly been filled. Wah. ;_;

Now I'm into my second interview for a photography studio. They take pictures of little monsters *eherm* I mean, children. But it looks fun, so I think I'll want it.

Our street's flooded today. How so, our friends in London or LA cannot even begin to imagine. It flooded our garage. Considering our garage is elevated a few feet off the street, I shudder to think of what it's like for some of our neighbors who made their houses level to the street. And we're still waiting for the water to come down from the nearby hills, as per the advisory we received this morning.

What's funny is that this is all happening, my elitist, slave-driver college is still not making any announcements on whether we have class or not. Damn them for thinking that every student comes to their school in a nice, comfy Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer.

And my mother's mouth knows no rest, even on a stormy day.

No, she suddenly didn't go canine on me. It's just that I neglected to scrape off a few bits of corned beef left on the frying pan (when I say bits, I mean BITS... microscopic pieces), and she found it as an excuse to launch into a litany on how I wasn't appreciating her enough as my sole provider and how I was wasting precious food. This might sound apathetic and shiyet, but please... can't we leave those bits for Hershey (my dog) to take care of? It's not like I left GOBS of the stuff on the fry pan. Let's put it this way: If she thought that I was being wasteful based on the amount of crud I leave on the pan, I'd hate to imagine what she'd think of the cooking school students in my college.

It still boggles the mind how a tiny 43-year-old woman could summon a thousand decibels of lung power just to illustrate a point about leaving scraps of food in cookware.

Oh no, it's not about the relationship per se. Per se, it's GREAT--- more than I could ever hope for or wish for. EVER. And I love her very much. (for the curious, she's ~Evrael... check out her page for great poetry) What we're kinda worried about is all the other stuff that might be outside the relationship, but does affect it at one point or another.

I don't know why I'm bothered, but I guess it's kind of a cause for a bit of alarm when her oldest friend acts surprised at the sign of some long-term planning. But I guess some people will like it, and some people won't--- and we'll have to live with all of that.

It's raining and it's cold, a surprising far cry from yesterday's weather, and my Internet connection is f**cking up badly (now I remember why I don't wanna play...) I even got disconnected just writing this journal entry. Imagine getting DC'd during a boss fight in Prontera Square, and you're aiming for MVPship.

Anyway, it's just funny how some mother-daughter feuds dissipate after you stop thinking of your mother as some demi-god you need to please all the time, the one who can't do wrong. I mean, as ~caitiff05 says, even the priests and the Pope are human... why can't the woman reheating leftovers in the kitchen be one, too? That in mind, you give her all the consideration you give to other humans. She actually would listen to your suggestions, too. I don't know if this could be considered unviersal truth, but my girlfriend also tried it and she's getting along great with her mom, too. And she had HUGE problems.

Let me start off by saying that ineptitude is all in your head. No one is naturally inept, and that talent, while it may be a big help, is not always a plus.

If you really wanted to, say, draw something, you would take steps to actually improve your monkey-ass way of squiggling lines onto a piece of paper, right? you'd work on it until you either fall over dead or you actually get it. If you never had ANY plans of drawing anything at all, you'd just flimsily pick up a pencil, squiggle some monkey-ass lines (deliberately or not is all up to you) and pronounce it virtually impossible a task.

What WAS the point of me typing all that in, ne?

What I'm saying is that effort actually counts, even more so than talent.
I'm just babbling on and on about this because I feel like my aforementioned effort (and maybe my aforementioned talent) is being put to waste given the kind of people I have to work with. I'd appreciate their monkey-ass drawings IF they even tried to make them. I could draw, yes, but PLEASE don't make me feel like I'm alone in all this.
