Despite saying I would look at other brands of laptop, I once again chose a HP as it was the only one that met the list of specs my brother and I had devised.

After setting it up, we were concerned that the sound quality was extremely poor (especially as it boasts about having beats audio) and were under the impression that there was a fault in the system. After speaking with the shop we purchased it from and testing another new laptop, we decided to get a refund and look elsewhere.

Background
As many of you will know, this group, :devNaNoEmo: hosts a fun emote-a-day style challenge every November to match up with NaNoWriMo in the literature community. Life
Life has been plodding along as usual. I usually have about 4 projects on the go and just as I get done with on, another two come along. But it keeps me busy.

I have made sure to take some free time to enjoy myself. I recently went to see Iron Man 3 and the new Star Trek films at the cinema as well as going to a Ludovico Einaudi concert last month. ]]> Dithering is a pixel art process used to blend blocks of colour together or help apply a texture to a pixelled surface. Within emoticons it is most commonly used when making pixelled backgrounds, however it can be used in a number of other areas, e.g. massive emote bases, pixel objects etc. In this tutorial, we will focus on how 2 colours can be blended with dithering.

To break dithering down into simple terms, it is achieved by simply taking the colours from the two blocks of colour and placing individual pixels of each on the opposite side. This creates a region where the two colours merge together to create a more blend ]]>

Life
It seems a while since I wrote a more personal journal, so here goes.

Over the past few weeks life has been rather hectic (what's new?). I've had a number of my offline projects round off which has been nice, but any free time has immediately been filled with other things off my to do list.

In all, my birthday was a calm but pleasant day. The event started off with an emoticon scavenger hunt. In this challenge deviants were shown a clue to a deviation in a deviant's gallery and given the task to obtain the thumbcode for the original deviation. The clues consisted of zoomed in and cropped sections of emoticons showing either part of the animation, part of the canvas or a mixture of both.

I guess the most major one is my Grandma passed away earlier this week. I have to say I'm fine about the whole situation. She had been very ill for the last few years and we saw the fight vanish from her about 5 weeks ago. With that I did my grieving and when it did come to the end it was more relief that she was finally at peace and that our lives could resume some sort of normality.  I am sure over time there will be things about her that I'll miss, but for that we have a host of memories to remember her by.

My official exam results were released earlier this week (with no changes) and my official degree classification was released on Wednesday leaving me with a solid First Class Honours Degree (BSc) in Computer Science with a good average of 75.958% To be honest, I couldn't be happier with my results but it's still not quite hit me that it's all over and I'm not sure it will for some time. Whilst I'm relieved I no longer have the stress of working towards a degree, I will miss the University, Computer Science department and staff. But life must go on

Over the course of a few weeks over 70 different deviants received custom OCtopi avatars and 10 weeks later it's awesome to see a larger number of them still in use.

At the time I set the condition that the base couldn't be edited and if you wanted a custom OCtopi avatar then you must commission one through myself. Due to the nature of the group it doesn't require that much work on a daily or weekly basis, but over time the journals became outdated or overcrowded and a few months back I decided it was time to completely revamp the group.

This isn't an easy task. With over 250 tutorials/resources and upwards of 20 journals to revamp it would take a large number of hours to sift through the information and bring it up to date and arrange it in an easy to locate form. There was a lot to write in a short amount of time and although I knew the topics I'm not sure how well I got it down on paper. Only time will tell. Everyone else seemed to hate the exam. It just goes to show my long days of studying really paid off.

My next exam is tomorrow. I'm in the similar sort of position that I think I know the topics reasonably well and I just have to hope I can relate them to the questions and answer them in enough detail. With my next 2 exams coming up next week, school work has basically taken over my life. I've been spending about 6-8 hours a day writing up notes and preparing for the range of questions that may come up in the exam. The time and effort seems to be working - I'm now reasonably confident with topics I didn't understand and I feel all the hours spent are making up for being a tad lazy last semester. I still have a way to go though, so I need to keep up this momentum for a little while longer.
