I remember, when I was very young,
my mother and I lived in a trailor.
It was a tin shoebox, a house on wheels,
but I didn't understand that then.
I didn't understand that it was
a sign of how low we were in
the great wide world. I didn't know
that it was second hand, and I wouldn't've
cared if I had. It was home.

And I remember sitting on the deck out back,
laughing, and being held tight. I remember
the smells of breakfast in the morning
after my single mom had worked all night.

I remember running my fingers through our
dog's thick fur and waking up to a woman

Things have changed since then. There's
no denying that. Things have changed, and
my mother says they've changed for the better.
She says we have a better life now, because
she has a better job where she makes better
money which pays for her better house. I
don't even know when she stopped humming.

But I remember what home was like.
It felt like ice cubes in summer
and hay bales in autumn and hot
chocolate in winter and old turtle
shells in spring. It smelled like
dogs and dirt and cheap perfume,
and tasted like macaroni and
scrambled eggs.

I miss home.

I have accomplished nothing this weekend.
I've either been on the road, asleep, or
separated from my materials.

Oh well, I suppose that's how things work.
I have to write a second paper answering
yet another round of questions in order
to get my internship approved by STEM,
memorize a Shakespearean monologue,
write another paper by... Tuesday...
and much more, I'm sure, but I simply
can't recall any of it at the moment.
And I don't really care to.

I'm such a lazy over-achiever, aren't I?
Not really going much of anywhere with
that New Years' Resolution (remember those?)
to improve my time management skills...

In other news...

I posted the pictures of what's left of my
great-grandfather's house. Well, the ones
that I took with some sort of artistic
perspective... I dabble, yes.

There are a few more on my computer too,
but they're just of the dirt and the rubble,
nothing too striking.

I'm working on getting a history of the place
from my grandfather... and maybe some
shots of the house itself. And you'll get
that as soon as I do.

Things that have happened recently...

1) I did NOT get mugged by drug dealers.
I was downtown today, driving down some
obscure street, when a large truck stops
in front of me and a group of rather
greasy-grungy looking people materializes
out of nowhere and swarms en masse.
They scowled and they growled and told me
to keep driving... so drive I did.

2) I learned how to play several
new card games, today. They are Mau
(which is not quite as annoying as Nertz)
and Egyptian Rat Screw.
Egyptian Rat Screw is really fun to say.

3) I interviewed a professional writer
for the school paper, which is why I was
downtown. Our drama department
adapted several of her books into a short
play, and she was in awe with them (and
they with her!).

4) My great-grandfather's house was
torn down. It's horribly sad, to me.
I was hoping to get pictures of it,
but between Sunday night and Monday
afternoon, it was completely demolished,
and the rubble cleared away.
Now all that's left of it is a patch
of bare red clay.

For those of you who,
like myself,
enjoy cheap thrills in the kitchen,
here's a recipe I just came up with.
It's kind of like chicken noodle soup...
and onion soup...
combined.
It is GODLY. XD

Anywho, ingredients:

1 can of chicken noodle soup
1 onion
1 potato
1 tsp minced garlic
parmesan cheese
vegetable oil
Basil
Oregano
Salt and Pepper

Instructions:

Rinse potato, peel, chop.
Place in pot with chicken noodle soup,
1 can of water, add oregano, salt and pepper.
Bring to boil.

Once boiling rapidly, finely slice onion
(only as much as you want!), place in pan,
cover with vegetable oil, dash of basil.
Bring to boil.
Cook until transparent. Drain.
Combine in pot with soup.

Boil for five minutes.
At one minute to go, add minced garlic.
At 30 seconds, add parmesan cheese
(only as much as you want),
turn off burner.

Dig in!

Okay, guys. I'm just a little bit miffed, at the moment. So I am going to tell you a bit of a story, and you can tell me where it goes wrong.

The church my family attends--the church my family helped to found, way back in 1870--has recently taken on a major building project. The sanctuary, which my grandfather and great-grandfather helped to build, was drastically enlarged and remodeled (more than was necessary, according to popular opinion). In keeping with the tradition, my uncle did his part to help the process.

He donated large amounts of time and lumber (the family owns a small lumber mill) to the construction project. He did all of the detailing, using the same tools that three other generations of my family have used, by hand. He carved the molding, cut the lumber itself down from tree to appropriately sized board, and helped to put it up in the building itself.

He is by no means a rich man, and neither is anyone else in our family. He is a farmer, as was his father, grandfather, and so on, working the same land that our family has worked for over one hundred years, living in a house that has seen the Civil War.

However, the renovations of the church were indeed rather expensive--totaling more than one million dollars even after counting the funds raised for the project since the 80's and the extra donations of my uncle and other members of the congregation.

That being the case, the minister--a rather fat and confused Mr. Houston, who, ironically enough, is a Texan--went up to the farmhouse, knocked on my uncle's door, and told him that it was his duty to sell his property--his home, his heritage, his lifeblood--in order to help pay off the church's debts.

I'm sorry, but to me, the sort of gall it must take to ask that is simply... unfathomable.

Here is a list of items to avoid. Remember, though by and large it is okay to feed your pets table scraps and leftovers as a special treat, pet food is the safest, surest way to make sure your dog gets the proper nutrition.

Items to avoid and Reasons to avoid:

Alcoholic beverages - Can cause intoxication, coma, and death.


Baby food - Can contain onion powder, which can be toxic to dogs. (Please see onion below.) Can also result in nutritional deficiencies, if fed in large amounts.


Bones from fish, poultry, or other meat sources - Can cause obstruction or laceration of the digestive system.


Cat food - Generally too high in protein and fats.


Chocolate, coffee, tea, and other caffeine - Contain caffeine, theobromine, or theophylline, which can be toxic and affect the heart and nervous systems.


Citrus oil extracts - Can cause vomiting.


Fat trimmings - Can cause pancreatitis.


Grapes and raisins - Contain an unknown toxin, which can damage the kidneys. There have been no problems associated with grape seed extract.


Hops Unknown compound - causes panting, increased heart rate, elevated temperature, seizures, and death.


Human vitamin supplements containing iron - Can damage the lining of the digestive system and be toxic to the other organs including the liver and kidneys.


Large amounts of liver - Can cause Vitamin A toxicity, which affects muscles and bones.


Macadamia nuts - Contain an unknown toxin, which can affect the digestive and nervous systems and muscle.


Marijuana - Can depress the nervous system, cause vomiting, and changes in the heart rate.


Milk and other dairy products - Some adult dogs and cats do not have sufficient amounts of the enzyme lactase, which breaks down the lactose in milk. This can result in diarrhea. Lactose-free milk products are available for pets.


Moldy or spoiled food, garbage - Can contain multiple toxins causing vomiting and diarrhea and can also affect other organs.


Mushrooms Can contain toxins, which may affect multiple systems in the body, cause shock, and result in death.


Onions and garlic (raw, cooked, or powder) - Contain sulfoxides and disulfides, which can damage red blood cells and cause anemia. Cats are more susceptible than dogs. Garlic is less toxic than onions.

Persimmons Seeds can cause intestinal obstruction and enteritis.


Pits from peaches and plums - Can cause obstruction of the digestive tract.


Potato, rhubarb, and tomato leaves; potato and tomato stems - Contain oxalates, which can affect the digestive, nervous, and urinary systems. This is more of a problem in livestock.


Raw eggs - Contain an enzyme called avidin, which decreases the absorption of biotin (a B vitamin). This can lead to skin and hair coat problems. Raw eggs may also contain Salmonella.


Raw fish - Can result in a thiamine (a B vitamin) deficiency leading to loss of appetite, seizures, and in severe cases, death. More common if raw fish is fed regularly.


Salt - If eaten in large quantities it may lead to electrolyte imbalances.


String - Can become trapped in the digestive system; called a "string foreign body."

Sugary foods - Can lead to obesity, dental problems, and possibly diabetes mellitus.


Table scraps (in large amounts) - Table scraps are not nutritionally balanced. They should never be more than 10% of the diet. Fat should be trimmed from meat; bones should not be fed.


Tobacco Contains - nicotine, which affects the digestive and nervous systems. Can result in rapid heart beat, collapse, coma, and death.


Yeast dough - Can expand and produce gas in the digestive system, causing pain and possible rupture of the stomach or intestines.

Both start at high points. In human life, this point is phonetic, the agonized scream of the mother as she forces her child, himself also screaming, into the world. Sometimes, the river's course is changed, and though the river will rage against it, it will flow, crooked, bent, twisted in upon itself, down and through the unnatural way.

But the river is stubborn and knows this is not right. It will work against this dam, and slowly, assiduously, conquering by attrition, the river will restore itself.

Then, just as always, it will tumble headlong into the sea, be swallowed up, lost, and forgotten, and reincarnated as rain.

Anywho... we also put on our last show of "A Christmas Carol" at the Workshop Theatre tonight. My drama teacher's mother has officially decided that I was her favorite actor... so I guess I get bonus points. ^^ It's been fun, but I don't think that I'm going to take Drama V again next year. There's only so much of it one can take... and if we're really doing "Romeo and Juliet..." yeah.

I still need a screwdriver.

Whenever I'm really down, feel like
drowning, I'll sing/hum the "Does
anybody hear her?/Does anybody see?/Does
anybody even know she's going down today?"
part, and it reminds me of ~RoninAsuka, and
I feel slightly better. I have faith in
her like that.

2. I didn't eat supper last night, or
breakfast this morning, and almost didn't
have lunch either, but people made me eat.
I had half a bag of pretzels, twenty-three
french fries, a chicken nugget, and a
quarter of a macaroon. Horray for charity.
I did have supper, before anyone asks, but
I wasn't planning to. >.<

3. My favorite number is 252. It just
seems like a very natural, yellow-and-green
number. Maybe a bit of blue, too. I
think I like it because I can associate
it with good things. It's the first few
digits of the phone number of one of my
friends, part of it is in
~52Cardds's username, and it's the
number of the journalism room. Can't
get much better, can it? My least favorite
number is 14.

4. Apparently, I'm masochistic AND sadistic.
At least, that's what was established by
people at the lunch table... I think. My
"turning of destructive tendencies inward"
and "enjoyment of being cruel" (yes, I do
like to be mean when the chance presents
itself. And you thought I was nice...)
put me in both categories. Yes, cafeteria
conversations confuse me greatly.

5. I've been having lots of random
psychic moments lately... I just wish
I knew what they meant! For example:
Today, I was walking home when I stopped
to talk to a freshman from my art class.
As soon as I started on my way I was sure
that I'd lost something, but I hadn't. I
looked around several times; nothing had
dropped. So I kept going. Then I had to
answer my phone (dropping all of my books
in the process), talked, hung up, and
continued on my way. I made it maybe a
quarter of a mile when suddenly I noticed
that I actually was missing something:
MY ART PROJECT! AHHHH!!!!! So I dropped
my stuff and dashed back up the road, across
the parking lot, and proceded to tear the
campus apart. I did eventually find my
picture, under a car near where I'd
dropped my books.

6. Last year when I took the PSAT,
I would've qualified for a scholarship
if I'd been a junior. Hopefully I'll
be able to pull off the same feat
tomorrow, now that I actually AM a
junior. XD

7. I'm more than 100 pages behind in
my reading for AP English (if it weren't
for my dignity as a writer, I would have
dropped that class. It's not that it's
difficult, it's that I don't have time
to do the massive amount of work we're
given. *sigh*). Of course, I could be
doing my reading now, rather than being
on deviantART, but where's the fun in
sensibility?

8. The next eight random facts
will probably be a lot more serious
and psychological... I've been thinking
about how I think a great deal and need
to vent, so maybe by telling you now,
I'll follow through. Okay, probably not.
I'll find some excuse to not post it,
but whatever. XD

It feels neglected...

Anywho, random facts!

1. I carry between 67.9 and 29.8
pounds of paper around at school
every day (tending more towards
67.9...). Also, I can carry that
the two-ish miles between school
and my house (in flip-flops, no
less) without too great of diffculty.

2. I know that ~52Cardds and
~moggetchan are music-monsters
and suspect that ~alx7734, ~BellaPotter,
~Kitz-the-Kitsune, ~RoninAsuka,
~RoninRapusodi, and ~Slipping-Star
are music-monsters as well, but that's only
a hunch.
On a similar note (ha ha ha, puns are great),
the only music I really don't like would be
rap, or anything with a similar sound. I
like country music (preferably from the '90s),
rock (alternative, soft, celtic, some classic),
classical music (I'm not all that fond of Beethoven,
though), orchestra music, and, apparently,
electrona. I don't like anything too harsh,
though. Madina Lake and Linkin Park are about
my limit.
Favorite songs? Ta Muid by Charlie Doidge
and Stiff Kittens by Blaqk Audio.

3. I worked my first double-shift today.
Whoohoo! My double-shift brought an epic
battle of managerial proportions to a peaceful
end, thank goodness.
I also had my first official break EVAR in
all my four-plus years of working/volunteering
there. I spent it eating strawberry
shortcake. Yum.
I also learned that the owner is getting
married today. Congrats, Ms. Laura!

4. For supper, I have cooked Japanese Spam.
What is this strange, foreign dish, you may
ask? It is rice, eggs, and sausage, all
mixed together. No, it did not originate
in Japan. Household garbage. You see,
before Japanese Spam, there was Chinese Spam,
which used bacon rather than sausage
(one day, when we had no bacon, Japanese
Spam was born!), and Chinese Spam was so
named because my sister thought it was so named.

5. Kittens. We have kittens for adoption.
Does anybody want a kitten? Does anybody
know anybody who might want a kitten? Are
any of you actually able to ADOPT the kitten?

6. Bob. THE LLAMA! Bob, Bob THE LLAMA!

very neutral person. I simply tend to both
extremes at once, which admittedly can give
the same impression at times...

last night I kept getting those
awful leg cramps (you know the one's

kicking myself in the butt.
I think I screamed a bit...
woke up the fuzzy creatures.
Poor things. But the moral of
the story is that I need to
eat something with potassium
and that everything
below my knees hurt today,
so it probably wasn't smart
for me to walk the two miles
back to the house, lugging
my fifty-some-odd pounds
of baggage... Not that that
stopped me, of course.

Anywho, enough of that.
Does anyone want to do something...
tomorrow? As in Saturday? The fourth?
Probably not, but I might as well ask.
I work till noon, but after that I'm

I had another field trip too,
but I had to cancel. Darn Drama class.

Anywho, I get to try for my
license soon. The restricted kind.
As I'm only 16 (though people who
don't know me have guessed as
high as mid-thirties when
I cut all my hair off...). So wish me
luck, if you don't mind. I convinced
my darling mother not to make me
take another lesson with the Advantage
people, thank the stars. I really
dislike them. And they said I'm
good (except on turns...), so it's
not like one more lesson'll fix that.
Mehopes I pass, 'cuz I'll have to see
them again if I don't. T_T
But if I do pass, I inherit my mother's
old truck. Hurray for me. It basically
sits in the yard, neglected. So... yeah.

Anyone think that that new movie "Eagle Eye"
will be any good?

Of course, it could've been
worse. Something bad could
actually have happened today,
instead of just thinking about
bad things that've happened
previously...

Anywho, I haven't eaten an
actual meal in a couple days
now. Maybe that's what
brought on my momentary
depression... I've been
subsisting on bread and
water. But I'm going to
have real food tonight.
Promise.

School is going to keep me
on my toes this year. I
decided to drop Physics
and take up a study hall.
I was going to go for a math
(I was advised to...), but
as I'm quite obviously going
to die without one, I think
I made the wiser choice.
Drama V eats up all of my
spare time. No joke. We meet
so much outside of regular
class time that it's frightening.
But fun. Especially when
you're sneakily taking journalism
during the exact same block.

We have five kittens and one cat up for adoption. We snatched them from the jaws of death by government animal institution, but alas we cannot keep them forever. Are they free? I think so... not sure. Are they cute? Yes. Yes they are. Are they cuddly? They will be. They're bouncey. *starts humming Tigger song* They run around like little mad creatures. They're adorable when they try to be vicious.

Anywho... I'm just continuing to test my newfound powers as a subscribed member of dA! (Thanks again =time-warrior! How many times have I said that now? XD)

By the bye, does anyone know how to work CSS?

I want to edit it some more, but from what I've heard... it has gained the approval of its few readers. Therefore, I have posted it. That way, if I ruin it through further edits, you still get the better deal.

Random Fact (these are fun): I used "Editor-In-Chief" as a "freestyle essay." The "essay" just had to use a mode of discourse that we learned about but did not make a presentation on. I chose narration and ended up turning in a seventy-six MLA page "essay." It was thicker by itself than the rest of the class's combined. Typical Micks. It was fun to watch the jaws drop.

Anywho, that is all. Dogs must be bathed at this time. And I would like to sleep one night this week. So I am going to disappear.

Edit: Oh gosh. I just started to read through "Editor-In-Chief" thoroughly, and I can't believe how many mistakes there are. It's embarassing. Why my teacher has praised it so much I'll never know. Gosh. I feel so stupid right now... It's not even funny. No.

Edit Again: My English teacher has become suddenly awesome. She has said such very nice things about this story. "I'm really impressed that someone your age could write this." "I was enraptured from page one, and I usually don't like science fiction." "He [me] could definitely be best seller material one day." Most other people have said nice things to, and I can't say that they're wrong, because the teacher said it first, and teachers have to be honest. AND SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE ASKED FOR PERSONAL COPIES! I just can't believe it.

But then of course I must tell myself to be calm, because I'm getting a big head. And I get somewhat depressed. And then yell at myself for getting depressed, because I should enjoy the few things that come along and make me happy. And then I get mad. And it usually doesn't end too well...

Nevertheless, HUZZAO! And now I will be very quiet and stop bugging you guys.

Today I was stretching as I was walking through my yard when my hands hit something: a tree. To be precise, it was one of the more magnificent oaks on our property. My fingers could just touch the lowest branch. If I jumped, I could grab it, and walk myself up.

It was raining.

I went as high as I dared, but then stopped. I knew that I could go higher, but I was afraid. The branches were wet and slippery. I could fall. Who would find me? When?

In his novel Tree Girl, Ben Mikaelsen says that climbing trees takes us closer to Heaven.

A life of riding elevators has taken us closer to Hell.

Do not be afraid to climb. It is better to ignore what others think than to let their thoughts hinder you.
