My loverboy recently got his hands on David B.'s (David Beauchard) [link] Epileptic - the distinctive cover art caught my eye immediately and I devoured that book with so much enthusiasm I got rather upset everytime I had to put that book down. It's actually six books but the edition we have has all six collected into one and fucking hell, they're amazing. I have had no experience with epilepsy and my only 'brush' with this is that my lover told me he used to have seizures when he was younger (although they have long ceased to occur) - when he first told me, we were both intoxicated so for no reason at all I thought it was a funny joke until I saw his face. Needless to say, I felt horribly guilty after

Ever since, I've secretly sort of wanted to find out more about life with/as an epileptic so this collection was, I think the best thing ever I've stumbled across. It's serious, informative, insightful and poignant as it can get. ~baggeralareinedumond could probably get her hands on it easier since the author is a lot more famous in France His style is intricate, detailed yet at times so simple but it remains in your head. It's definitely made a permanent impact on me. Wiki tells me he's influences by Tardis and Georges Pichard. Tardis I'm not sure about but Georges Pichard!



(For the record its been at least a month since I've read it. )

making comics with ~ParadiseFever and solo for a massive local arts festival (Urbanscapes '09 [link] ) and still have illustration and animation assignments to finish!
I'm planning a pretty colour vector comic/graphic story so we'll see how that goes. If it works then maybe you'll be interested in picking up a copy? ;3

There was a lot of excellent work on display and incredibly interesting people. I had a massively good time artjamming and hanging out with amazing people like Raymond, Gen, Carr Win, Chin Yew (you can probably find them at 30DayArtist linked below), ~rbbrmlk and Imad (who is one of those rare lomo fan/users and a rather intriguing character. He also disappeared somewhere and I forgot to attempt internet stalking and then I disappeared somewhere so I never saw him again dammit.)

I missed the motion conference earlier during the week because being an almost entirely financially independent student, I have little money to spare. RM180.

Last thoughts
and maybe you should think about it for a while.
It felt so damned good to draw on real paper with a real marker in my hand and not have to worry whether anyone else is gonna like it or whether satisfies a list of demands/requirements from somebody else.
I think digital art disconnects you from the roots of art and makes you lazy because of all the handy shortcuts provided in those nifty programs like Photoshop/Corel Painter/Illustrator etc.
Like traditionally, if you made a mistake you damned well erase it and do it again until you get it right or you start on a fresh sheet. Either way learning from said mistake. Digitally, you just press fucken Mistake-B-Gone CTRL+Z and voila!
I'm not bothered to annoy you with a rant or whatever.

Running people over I can deal with. A small part of my brain yells "YOSH! Let's not run people over! " everytime I think about it.

IS THAT FEAR I SENSE?
You're probably thinking 'OMG KARI IN A CAR?! HOLY CRAP RUN AWAIIIII'

Actually I'm more worried about damaging the car than running people over. I don't have enough money to pay for driving class fees/license/test fee and fixing the stupid car


I'm also rather frightened at the prospect of having to sit in a car with a stranger for thirteen hours of practical training in the next few months to come


....I've just realised, ff I die in a road accident during practical training, I'm going to die in a piddly Kancil

1. I'm looking into compiling and digitizing all the Thing&Thing strips into a comic book. The five minute art is beginning to bug me now

2. new comic book project which currently needs a better name
its serious shit
I'm currently collaborating with artists & and guest writers & Liam Burke to create a series of short oneshots into a comic book (or two - one collab-artist and one guest writer per book) to sell the indie way and at cons. If it doesn't work out, the experience would still be worth all the hard work C:


Anybody else interested? It could be a pretty fun webcomic project too. Just submit your ideas/suggestions/scripts/stories etc. via notes and don't forget, the obvious rules about sex-censorship applies No worries about blood and gore. Violence is so much fun to draw
Due credit will obviously be given so no worries about that.



3. Deadbeat Curry is not dead. Just slow in the making. I'm drawing up a stack of stuff and then will get around to posting them all at once.


So Christmas/Hanukkah or whatever it is you celebrate is in two days so merry/happy whatever it is you celebrate

The con was disheartening.
Few people wanted my art unless it was free
They liked the Thing & Thing Hairy Eyes print (and the mudkipz) on display though. Few people bought it. They looked at the browsing copy, laughed, enjoyed the joke and walked off.
Stupid browsing copy.

Nobody likes stickers either


Worse still, I was bad for business.
On Day1 I shared a booth with ~clannoire and there was a distinct lack of customers nearly all day. On Day2 I didn't rent a booth but accompanied ~krystlekmy at her booth instead and there was a distinct lack of customers at her booth but ~clannoire's booth did rather well. So I decided to conduct a small experiment. I went wandering around in my cheapskate cosplay and the OH IRONY! When I wasn't sitting at ~krystlekmy's booth, people bought her merch.
I have joked about being naturally scary but I didn't realise it was actually true until now oAo






I was thinking of getting together a comic book of some sort like Thing&Thing.



Now I don't know. =___=

I like making black&white stickers I will make you black&white stickers and mail them to you for Christmas if you aren't afraid of noting me with your mailing address, name and specifics. Alternatively if I am likely to see you face-to-face (eg: at a con/party/random outing etc.) then I shall hand it to you personally. My inner workholic un/fortunately dominates a very large part of my brain.

I mailed in the last of my money to book a booth at Comic Fiesta 2008 (in December) together with the registration form weeks ahead of the deadline.
Some time later after posting it, I receive this email:


Hello!

I regret to inform you that unfortunately due to the storms that have struck the areas near my house, your letters of applications as well as the postal order included have reached me in a damaged condition. Please reclaim your postal orders at the nearest post offices and resend the application form. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.




Post office people tell me I am unable to reclaim my money in order to make a new order until the receipt expires. In two months. I can't afford to purchase another money order without reclaiming said money because I haven't got any more Yeah its not the Comic Fiesta booth manager's fault but I can't help feeling a little cheated.
Oh and booths for the upcoming Anime Comic Fair are a 100 each for two days so no thanks. Even if I had money



so much for selling stuff at cons this year.
Maybe next year.

I'm tired.
Anybody know the Windows Vista equivalent of Screen Flow?
Screen Flow is a program that records whatever is happening on your desktop in video (think screencapture in video format) but it's only for Macs I think. Digital artists use that sort of thing to record their work process to post walkthroughs/tutorials on YouTube. It would be fun to record my vector process and watch it just to see where I went wrong.

Camera Ninjas have decreed that Sammy's jammed shutter requires he be taken apart to replace said shutters. Unfortunately the lomo LC-A is no longer in production so if anybody knows where I could order parts either online or locally that would awesome.

Technology lesson learnt. Upgrading your laptop's RAM to 3 gigabytes means wipage of data. Ergo you should check all your data folders and arrange them in a less complicated fashion (especially not in freakish patterns around your desktop picture) unlike yours truly who sorted everything into little groups with mini-directories, subfolders, subsubfolders, subsubsubfolders, subsubsubsubfolders etc. and placed them everywhere thus missing a few important vectors-in-progress folders whilst backing up and they are now lost in the oblivion of wipage forevar *rahr*.

Also. Please remember to spay/neuter your pets if you don't intend on breeding them or they may end up homeless like Soldier
Before getting a pedigree, consider adopting a homeless/rescued pet okay? It's sort of being racist towards animals otherwise.
If you can't take care of your pet for various reasons (eg: emigrating, illnesses, lack of funds etc.) then please, please, please find him/her/them good homes instead of the streets.
I've worked with the SPCA and there'd be loads of calls about animal abuse and homeless pets. Seriously, I've had to stand helplessly watching beautiful creatures carried off to be euthanised and it's just...heartbreaking. Scream your outrage all you want but reality bites - space, funds and other factors are constant problems. These rescuers are doing the best they can. It's great to think about other people in trouble like starving children, the poverty stricken and child abuse but hey, remember our roots. Animals could've become today's humans. Primates just happened to evolve faster that's all.
Do the world and yourself a favour okay? Animals are people too.
