Well now that I'm more or less finished my backups from the crash last month, I've been working to turn my laptop in a retro-gaming power-house.

Hardly satisified with the typical NES/SNES/Geneis etc emulators, I'm also digging into my 486 gaming history with DosBox. While this isn't the first time I've been running the program, I've taken the insanity a step further and installed Windows 3.1 on it as well. However, I've run into two hickups that I wouldn't mind help with...

1 - Mouse doesn't work; While with everything else I've run in DosBox has worked with the mouse no problem, it seems Win3.1 ignores all mouse input, dispite seeming to recognize it (as a Logitech). While I can do some navigation via keyboard, not being able to use the mouse kind of defeats the purpose.

2 - No sound; I figure this is just a matter of finding the right drivers and using them within DosBox, but can anyone help me figure out how to get Win3.1 to recognize proper sound output?

EDIT; Alright, after a little bit of setting tomfollery I managed to solve both of my problems. Now it's Windows 3.1 as I remember it down to the classic sound sets (it's just not Win3.1 without the classic 'tada.wav' start up). I've also tested a few games and they work like a charm. I'll probably spend the week installing more classic games, there upon backing it all onto DVD so I don't need to do all this over again.

So, a means of discussion, what were some of your favorite DOS/Windows games of old? I'm currently planning on doing another playthrough of God of Thunder, Stunts, and Castle of the Winds myself.

Updating the journal again. Wow, this makes like, what, 9 times this year? Anyway, I want to talk about some relivant game topics of late.

First of all, I was quite excited to hear the long-rumored sequel to Rocket Knight Adventures announced. While I would have prefered it to take closer root to the 'ReBirth' games in WiiWare of late (classic 2D graphics and focus), I'm acctually feeling a little more encouraged based on what I've read so far. Regardless Sparkster is a character long overdue for a revival and I'm pretty happy that of all things they ARN'T making some brooding, dark anti-hero (he's just racist is all ).

Speaking of ReBirth, I understand Konami is continuing the theme with an upcoming Castlevania ReBirth. I wouldn't mind seeing another game in the classic style again acctually. Not that I have anything against the Metroid-vania path the series went after SotN, but Contra and Gradius ReBirth hasn't QUITE managed to make me tear out my hair in frustration yet (in a good way, mind you). Another download I'm looking forward to (aside from Cave Story... seriously WHEN is that comming out again?)

As an additional note, I was thinking of shaking things up on my YouTube account (dispite the fact my recording computer is still dead). My library of NES games is getting quite sizable (almost 400 last I counted). I though I might put up a list and start taking requests. I'll play any game from my collection, and depending on the game selected I might record a playthrough be it standard or with special conditions (play with the Game Genie using difficulty-enhancing codes for example), or at least showing more pivital scenes from any longer ones (say perhaps an attempt to beat Necrosaro in Dragon Warrior 4, or seeing how far I can get without the sword in Zelda). What would you guys think of this idea?

Art wise, I've still just been practicing with my tablet. If anyone is up to a trade, catch me on AIM/MSN and perhaps we could do a quick sketch together.

That's all for now

Hmm, I admit while I've been using this journal a little more often than before, I don't so much care for talking about my personal self, or life for that matter. Maybe I'll use it to foist my opinion on others about media I've been consuming of late.

I recently finished watching an anime called 'Ghost Stories', probably the first series I watched through since Bomberman Jetters several years ago. I more or less divorced myself from the scene after watching an episode of the painfully formulamatic Bobobo...bo...bobobo..bo (is that enough 'bo's?). That being said, it would've taken something unique to get me to watch a new series.

The premise of Ghost Stories was such a concept.

Ghost Stories is an anime about kids who find a book detailing how to trap various ghosts that were released durring reconstruction and urbanization in the local area. They go on multiple adventures with the only consistant 'villian' being a demon who is trapped in the body of the family cat, but acts little more than a very reluctant guide and spares no chance to tell them he waits for their death with eagerness.

By itself, the show it trite, formulamatic, and holds nothing special that hasn't been done in several anime before it. What DOES make this anime different is the dubbing done by Funimation. As the story goes when the studio picked up the series for western release they were told they had free reign to do what they wished as long as certain key story points were kept intact (how the kids defeated the ghosts, and so on).

In turn the entire show is played very much tounge-in-cheek. Most characters are aware of the fact they're in a show that rips off common Japanese-Horror films (in one episode they wonder how many times they've already ripped of 'The Ringu&#039, and very little is sacred including...

-Several references that the main character's dead mother, while being a spiritual demon hunter, was also a lesbian
-The token &#039sychic girl' character is now a pentacostal who thinks most everything that happens in the show is an act of God's will, and often reminds the others how they will be going to hell if they don't repent.
-The main character's younger brother suffers from dyslexia, is easily manipulated, and when flustered or upset (which is a good 90% of the time) his speach decends to loud babbling
-The show now takes place in America, but all the Japanese text is still left in the show, often confusing the main cast

This is just the short list of the changes made to the show, and I think a rather hilarious afront to the 'Dubs ruin the original intention of the language' crowd. For the bounderies they push though I will admit they cross the line of good-taste, perhaps a little more often than what you would see on Adult Swim. There were a few jokes I did feel uncomfortable laughing at but I still did laugh none-the-less. If nothing else it has some of the more memorable quotes I'd heard from a show in some time.

"Shirotabe, my freinds over there think you're a rabid serial-killer. And in the movies, this would be the part where I foolishly trust you not to kill me, and stick my hand in the cage."
"'Come bring me back to life' he says, 'I'll be good, I promise' he says, 'I'm not gunna turn into a big, red-eyed, flesh eating monster rabbit' HE SAYS!!"
"Stupid sentimental flash-back time is over now you bunny loving bitch, if you don't throw that thing I'm tossing YOU with it!"

And this was all from one episode.

In closing, a different kind of anime, mostly for the cynics and those who enjoy dark humor.

Meh, not a very good reveiw. I'll try better next week. As an aside, can someone tell me how to turn of Emocons? I'm getting rather irritated with random smily-faces sullying my text.

An update about the Tablet issues from before. It seemed to be a common problem regarding Vista, however recently installing Service Pack 2 seemed to solve the problem, as you can see from the recent influx of new art. So everything is status-quo.

So let's talk about games for the sake of putting up a new Journal

First of all, I've recently found a flash game called &#039andemic 2', which can be found here [link] . You play as a virus with the simple goal of wiping out all of man-kind. It's fairly simple, but I find it intreging if not for the darker theme than also for the shift in a gaming paradigm. At least you don't see unique angles like this very often.

I've also recently re-arranged my living room. Where previously a bulk of my systems were put away in dressers, the new set-up allows me to have them all out on display and even able to hook up with minimal fuss (No more than plugging in the power cable and changing a switch-box or two). Unfortunatly, I'll need a super-long HDMI cable to hook up my computer to my TV again, but it wasn't something I used very often anyway.

Being so, I've been able to play a lot of the systems I havn't put time into before, most notibly my Saturn systems. This brings me to the point that I wouldn't mind having more games for the system. Two I'm looking for are Sonic Jam and Fighters Mega Mix (the later of which I do have in Japanese, but I wouldn't mind having an english version of). Are there any other games worth getting for the system that you people might want to recommend?

While I'm at it for that matter, would any know some good online retailers for classic games? PnPGames has been a significant boon to my collection, but even their selection can be limiting.

I think that should be all for now

I just spent the better part of the afternoon getting my system restored to a point where I could use my new Wacom Bamboo tablet again. Apparently Vista in all it's wisdom decided the driver was a threat to the system and would repeatidly shut it down, preventing me from using the pen outside of Photoshop (rather irritating when you're juggling between messengers, Photoshop and Explorer).

I think I've about had it with Vista. Along with logging permissions, installing older programs and now this, I think I've had just a much trouble as I had with my parent's Windows ME computer. A bit of a shame as I'll admit it's acctually a stable system... when it decides to acctually run stuff.

I just wanted to throw out there, anyone using Windows 7 yet? Think it'd be worth it to upgrade to that? Or should I in fact downgrade to XP? (Since it seems my old computer won't be comming back from the grave any time soon)

It's late at night here, and I've been thinking over a lot of things lately.

As many of you had noticed in my recent behavior on dA, I've perhaps been a little less than cordial with how I've been treating comments on my art. While I still think some of my conerns about this are still valid, I think there's something else at work here that I need to address as a person.

I have been a very angry person of late, but in all reality don't know if what I'm feeling is justified. It has a lot to do with how I feel I'm being perceived and how I felt I've been taken for granted by certain individuals. While some I've come to terms with, others I don't think I've been able to fully communicate my greif with as a lack of will to push the issue further. What it often boils down to is jelously, but at the same time I think I've been treated pretty shitty as well.

But a good freind of mine reminded me that love is something that's a give and a take, and maybe I myself have been taking these people for granted as well. Perhaps it's time that I give shout outs to people whom I've felt special connections to and tell them what they've ment to me over the years.

; You're someone I know I should keep in better touch with, and honestly I can't think of anyone who'se helped me more out of pure freindship. Since our days working together you've always been there to look out for me and help me develop as a person. You and Ryan have always been there for me in times of need, and I can only hope to return the favor someday in ten-fold.

; Never could one ask for a greater freind. We've been through quite a few difficult times together and I suspect we'll help each other through many more. Always there with words of wisdom when I needed it, and never afraid to tell me when I've stepped out of line not just with you but in my dealings with others. You're someone who'se love for his freinds knows little bounds and is something everyone should aspire to.

; If nothing else came from our time together, is that I've learned what I need to do to better myself as a lover and a companion. While things might not have ended how we would have wanted, those 4 years are something I wouldn't trade for the world. You knew how to make someone feel wanted and loved, I only wish I had been able to do the same for you. I hope you find someone who has the patience and caring that you showed me all those years ago.

; Someone who deserves much better than what they get; as hard as times have been for you I've always seen you pushing through with a strength that seems endless and a heart that's always giving. Always willing to offer time and words of kindness and encouragement you're someone who I value greatly as a freind.

; Honesty is a rare commodity and you've given me this in spades. You were never hesitant to tell me what you thought but at the same time it came with a scencerity that told me it was never something of malice. In time I think our freindship has developed that we can tell each other anything without fear of the other taking offence and that we truly respect the ground we each stand on. Your stalwart freindship is something I will always remember.

; Someone with a demenor and knowledge I respect and that I treat as an equal.
Well the request I've taken are certainly giving me a lot of practice in my drawing. I've pretty much only gone a day or two in the past few weeks without picking up a pencil, and I'm learning quite a lot too. Something else I did when I went shopping last weekend was pick up a basic cartooning book which while looking like something for amatures, reminded me of a few of the basics I'd either forgotten or just never really discovered on my own.

To that end, I realised just how few rules I had when it came to drawing characters. While I've long broken my habits of drawing free hand, I find I leave quite a bit to the imagination and make things up as I go along which makes much of my art very inconsistant.

To that end, I want to start an exersize wherein I draw my character at least once a day, be it either a head-shot or a full body profile. I want to establish some ground-rules when it comes to how I draw him so that I can make him look the same dispite the myrid of poses I can put him through.

I've done a few drawings of him recently, all very basic poses and I may scan and post them either this weekend or early next week. What I want to propose is that you, my audience, give me poses and themes that might be challenging to draw (say from 'doing a hand-stand' to 'Operating heavy machinery under medication&#039. The more creative the idea, the more likely I'll use it. I'll also give credit as to whom gave me the idea in the comments section of the picture.

Thats about all for now. I'm keeping request open as well, but at this point I might have to keep future ones down to simple pencil sketches since I have enough on my plate as it is.

---===REQUEST STATUS===---

; Maxwell Silverhammer picture (0% complete, still in concept stages)
; Characters Byron and Sunny, Playing Bust-A-Move (10% complete, two characters in base sketch)
; Character Mellissa (50% complete, Lining almost finished)
; Child underwater (5% Complete, pencil work started)

Somehow I feel I might regret this, but I figure this should make up for my behavior the past two weeks.

I'm looking to practice my art a bit more, but I want to branch out a little more from what I normally draw. Therefore I'm asking whomever reads this if they can come up with anything to challenge me. Some general guidelines before we continue though...

1 - Send me a note telling me what you'd like to see me draw. If I feel like it'd be something interesting to try, I'll give it a shot. I may send a note back if I need any specifics.

2 - Once the drawing is complete, I'll either send it back your way with a note. As to weither it will be posted in my gallery depends of the nature of the picture.

3 - I'd prefer to keep the standards of my gallery; that is I won't draw anything overly fetishistic, but I'd like to have some other redeeming value to the art. That is no nudity at all and each request will be personally evaluated.

I think that should cover all the bases. I got a few other request to work on in the meantime. If I accept others I'll put their status in the journal.

; Maxwell Silverhammer picture (0% complete, still in concept stages)
; Characters Byron and Sunny, Playing Bust-A-Move (10% complete, two characters in base sketch)
; Character Mellissa (50% complete, Lining almost finished)
; Child underwater (5% Complete, pencil work started)

Just thought I'd get the other journal off the front page, and although I promised this journal would be on a happier note I thought I'd talk a bit about some greviances I've had of late. Sorry if this sounds like I'm being a whiny namby-pamby, but I wanted to start this year being a little more assertive about when I don't think I'm being treated right or when I'm just annoyed at things in general. If I were to pick a word to describe me last year, it'd be angry; and I think I need to put effort into fixing a few things if I'm going to change my outlook a bit. But let's take this one step at a time shall we?

Let's get this bitch-fest going...

1 - Instant messengers;
I don't know about you, but I expect a little ediquete when it comes to instant messaging. I mean, a bit more then some of the examples in my AIM Attack deviation. Things like if you're about to head offline and someone starts a conversation with you, at least acknowledge their message and tell them "Sorry, gotta go right away". At least then it won't seem like you're blowing them off. The only other explaination for the chain of events is that you just don't feel like talking to the person or just don't care for their company. In either case it's a crappy thing to do. And on a side note, if you're going to be away for a length of time, make more use of the 'Away' function most messangers have. It's the same thing as above where it just looks like you're ignoring the person, or at least put 'Busy' up if you're focused on one conversation at a time.

I don't want to make this a regular thing, just maybe when I get fed up with certain things now and again. I suppose the vent made me a feel a little better, although it still feels like I'm lashing out. I guess read this and consider it if you think it applies to you. I don't feel like singling people out so don't feel obligated to reply here.

I promise something a little more possitive next time... for real this time...

After an interesting morning and figuring I have nothing else to do for the rest of the day, I thought I'd talk about a few things in my journal.

First of all, on a possitive note, I was FINALLY able to pick up a copy of Retro Game Challenge. I already played through most of the Japanese version, but it's nice to understand a lot more of what's going on now (and it certainly makes the RPG portion MUCH easier to play. I didn't even know you could recrute monsters until now). All in all, a very well designed game for anyone who appreciates pre 90's game design. Buy it so they'll bring the sequel over here as well (that this game was translated at all was a big suprise).

I'll also mention here that while I have been posting art more regularly, real life might become very interesting in the next few weeks. That being said, I might be occupied with projects I may or may not be able to talk about here (but if I can and everything goes through I certainly will). I'll just say I've been given an opportunity to do something I've dreamed of since childhood.

On a whole other subject, I wouldn't mind talking about my character and some recent events. I'd rather you don't read this if it's something you don't care much about.

I'm sure one of his more defining features to most people is the fact my character wears a diaper. Fact of the matter is it's something that's been a part of his design for several years but the real reason isn't something a lot of people wouldn't suspect. It's a long story, but I'll try to condense it.

It first started in an RP room back in 2002 wherein my character was an off-shoot of Tails from the Sonic series (all too obvious). One day in a diaper was put on him to exact revenge against his father-in-law (another long story) and it turned into a running gag after that.

It was about this time I started taking drawing seriously and it found it's way into my art. It was here I found that it had a very polarizing effect on people. That is there was a very clear divide between those who didn't care, and those who thought it was the most abhorant thing in the world. Frankly I wish I could say I was exaggerating but it almost cost me my personal art thread in a community I was going to at the time, as well as a freind I'd known for years and been through some shit through calling me out as a sick freak.

I would have considered dropping it at that point but further examination showed me that those who made a big fuss about it were usually the kinds of people I wouldn't care to associate with anyway. The aformentioned freind turned out to be less then courteous when he demanded writing out of me the same week I was broken up from a girlfreind of four years, and responded with a 'yeah right!' when I told him I had other things on my mind then doing work for him.

I avoided stating this 'why' for the most part because it would effectively defeat it's purpose. It would be a too-the-face challenge of 'If you don't like me, you're not a good person!' and that wouldn't be fair to anybody. I can accept people who don't think it's all that cool, it's those who go to extremes mentioned above that I would get bothered with.

Of course why am I bothering mentioning this now if it's something I didn't want to mention in the first place? Well, this is where the 'recent events' come in.

Recently I received a requested peice of art of my character. Innocently enough, she had asked what the diaper was about. I responded in the post it'd be a long story and didn't want to take it any further since I thought it would be rather pointless to explain or make some BS excuse for it. However, after my post and while I was at work, two others took it upon themselves to explain the 'baby fur' side of things.

I should come clean at this point, yes for some time I was a part of the Baby Fur community, mostly doing art and such and generally partaking in the community as a member. No other details need to be given but I left awhile back due to an underwhelming sense of accomplishment, that is I never really got any critical feed-back that I wanted and felt my art kind of stagnated while I took all-too-similar requests over and over. If you ever want to piss off a Baby Fur artist who acctually wants to develop their art, just call it 'Cute'.

Back to the requested picture and comments. When I got home, I was quite upset to see what others had connotated as the reason for me requesting the picture. That they tied something like fetish-ism to it not only made me feel absolutly embarassed for myself, but also ashamed for what the original artist must have felt to have been 'used' in such a way. I prepared a note and sent it to the original artist explaining my real reasons, and everythings been cleared up now, but I feel I'm kind of at an impass here.

I admit I like...

Been awhile since I posted here, and figured this time would have been good as any. Christmas wasn't as crazy as it usually was, well acctually I suppose I have a story to tell or two.

To mention, Christmas shopping is something I like getting done early. This year was no different and I finished my initial shopping for my brother and sister roughly in September. At the begining of Decemeber my brother tells me he's agreed with my sister to get each other a Wii for Christmas, and that they'd really like to get Wii Fit. I thought I'd at least look around, but being the hot item this year it proved to be an impossible task. Then two weeks later my brother contacts me again and tells me they got Wii Fit already (and at a price that wasn't gouging), but instead asks for Monopoly, something ELSE which seemed to be difficult to find (I live in a small town and don't have easy access to the city), so in the end I just got them gift certificates along with my neices.

Otherwise a peaceful holiday. I got a new computer chair (something my back and neck REALLY needed) as well as a new dresser that I've managed to fit my entire game cartridge collection in.

In other news, shortly after my last dA post wherein I talk about starting a series of YouTube videos, my computer goes beyond crashing and completely dies (didn't even turn on). Expecting the worst I got myself a new one with Vista, something which dispite having the hardware doesn't seem to like doing video capture at all. Fortunatly I was able to revive the old computer a few weeks ago and the first in the next series of videos is up on my YouTube channel, this time being a playthrough of ShadowGate 64 (check out part 1 here [link] , pardon the campy attempt at acting).

I guess that's about all for now. I've started working on art again, but I want to get a few more peices acctually finished before I start posting again.

In the meantime, I am looking for things to sketch so for those paying attention leave a reply of what you'd like to see and I may give a few requests a shot.

Although if I may be a bit greedy myself, think some people can do some art for me?

Guess it's time for an update in the journal, a few things here and there...

First of all, I've recently come across a new store in the city devoted to classic gaming and related goods like magazines, manuals, and accessories. My more notable purchases include...

-Dragon Quest 4 (PS1, Japanese) [link]
-Braindead 13 (PS1, US) [link]
-Colecovision (with Donkey Kong and Lady Bug)
-A slew of NES games
-Several Saturn games (including Virtua Fighter 1 Remix + 2, Shining Wisdom, Astal, Street Fighter Alpha, and Battle Arena Toshinden)
-Gen X console (which plays both Genesis and NES games, an odd combination to be sure) [link]

I'll be sure to refer the store to anyone wishing to buy me anything for Christmas or my birthday.

Speaking of, it was my birthday last week (Sept. 3rd). A big hug and thank you to those who remmebered.

On the same day, I also got myself a new cell-phone, an LG Rumor. The slide-out keyboard is nice for texting (which I use a lot), and hopefully this one will acctually outlive the contract unlike my last two phones. Unfortunatly it looks like making custome ring-tones is going to be a pain in the arse (I want to have every call heralded by 'James Bond, the Polka Mix' damnit!)

One last item of note, which I already stated in a related deviation, is that I'm starting a YouTube channel, largely devoted to LetsPlays and reviews of classic games. Right now I only have the first episode up, but things have come to a pause for the time being since I need to fix up my audio a bit (the last video I record barely picked up my voice). But look forward to more soon.

[link]

That should be all for now. Now to go eat the sun

Just wanted to move the last journal off the front page. Sorry for whining like that, and I have to say those who responded are ones I never had an issue with. Thank you, friends.

With that out of the way now I'll discuss some recent occurances with my life, making proper use of the 'journal'.

In recent news I picked up an Atari 7600 from the pawn shop with 12 games, most notable being Galaga, Donkey Kong, Xevious, Pole Position 2, Ms. Pac-man, and Impossible Mission. It's a rather curious system, think of something with roughly lower grade graphics than the NES, but with the sound-chip and design mentality of the old 2600. Incidentally, it also plays my old 2600 games and has a pretty clear reception on my older TV.

I also just finished watching the entire series of Gargoyles, the animated series. I have to say it's still an enjoyable show and something I can still watch as an adult. It has uncommonly brilliant writing, characters and story that kept me interested throughout, although much like when it was on TV it did seem to slouch come the third season, so I guess it was for the best it ended when it did. By the way, Xanatos is the BEST villain ever. Cartoon or otherwise.

That's about all for now

(And it figures I can't change my 'mood' when I feel 'Llama' again)

Figure it's about time I update this thing

Well, in regards to my last journal about commissions, no one seemed interested so I guess that's a no go. Just as well since I'm even less motivated to draw when it feels like an obligation then a creative drive. Thankfully though the crisis that drove me to want to do commissions has passed for the time being. So who knows. I might still do requests if I think it's something different enough from what I usually do.

In recent news, my MP3 player went kaput so I used a portion of my tax refund to get a new one. A Sony (fuck me) walkman, but at least it looks nice. 4GB, also functions as an FM Radio, Picture veiwer, and MP4 movie player. I've only been able to watch movies downloaded from GameTrailers thus far, but I wouldn't mind turning some of my DivX movies into something I can watch while on break at work.

I also caved and bought a PSP (FUCK me, again. I really don't like Sony), although honestly I mostly did it for the homebrew then any official games. I plan on making a custom background for it which I might post here when it's done.

Speaking of submissions with how scant my postings have been of late, I think it'd be a good idea to lower my standards a bit of what I post in my main gallery and even post some pencil work if I think the concept of the picture itself is worth a look.
This is something I'd been thinking about doing for a few weeks now. I think I might start taking sketch commissions. $3 each. This isn't firm yet, but I want to present a system in which I'll take them...

1; You will send me a note with your request. No more than two characters to the sketch and nothing of overly sexual nature.

2; If I accept the commission, I'll note you back confirming it. I may also ask for any addition details needed.

3; Once the sketch is complete, I'll note you back saying it's ready along with the email for my Paypal account.

4; Once the payment is received, I'll send you a link to the sketch or if desired I can also send the file itself to any given email address.

This system isn't in effect just yet, but I wanted to get some feedback as to what anyone reading this journal would think of the price and method of payment.

I got my copy of Super Smash Brothers Brawl this afternoon. I'll spare the more or less uneventful tale (which involved going to the city since the local video store doesn't know their release dates from a hole in the... anyway...)

There's been a few chuckle worthy momments, most only applicable if you're a long time Nintendo fan. I wasn't especting anything less considering the deapths of their history that was used in Mellee, but it looks like this should blow it out of the water.

I think where I'll get the most out of this game is the music tracks available. There are some suprisingly good remixes found here and they seem to range from the norm of orchestral to jazz to techno and a multitude of other genres. I think perhaps a good way to describe it would be if they let folks from OCRemix go to town on the classic tunes, only really they employeed some of the more celbrated composers throughout gaming's history (I was suprised to learn Final Fantasy's Nobuo Uematsu had composed Brawl's main theme from all the main trailers)

Samus' been my character of choice throughout the Brawl series, but I'm starting to get a hang of Pit

For those who have the game, here's my Brawl code

3265 4738 2973

Just be warned, I'm a scrub by full definition, and I'll play any stage with any and all items.

Update KindaSorta;
Calling it a night with 31 characters unlocked, 31 stages, and 66% of the SubSpace Emissary mode completed. Not sure what else to say about the mode except it's a well crafted excuse to put on screen some of the most fan-fictionish momments to grace console gaming that would put IcyBrian to shame. But hell, if it isn't done with enough pizaz to let you suspend your disbelief you must be a cold hearted gamer inside.

I'll start off by saying that I've been listening to Weird Al since lower grade school and I've grown up loving most of his work (Okay, I admit I wasn't so keen on his Saturday Morning show, but I dare any of you to tell me you havn't quoted 'UHF' at any point of your lives).

Anyone familior with RiffTrax or MST3k for that matter will realise just what a natural fit this it then that he's brought in to riff on one of the more profilic movies of the early 90's, Jurassic Park. A sample and eventual purchase link can be found here...

[link]

(Nice tie in with his own song near the end of the sample).

This also prompted me to pick up the trilogy set today for about $22. I hadn't seen the other two movies yet anyway so it's a good enough excuse to pick it up as well.

Another staple of my early childhood was the Dragon Warrior series. In the last decade of me collecting video games I've been able to get three games of the series (1, 2, and 4 respectively). The last two games of the series are particularly rare due to a limited run as well as higher than usual pricing for NES games back in the day. While the first two were relitivily simple finds (I have no less than three copies of Dragon Warrior 1), Four was a marvalous stroke of luck, but not nearly as much as my aquisition yesterday...

There's a pawn shop in my town that's notorious for up-pricing it's games if it seems to have ANY sort of &#039op-cultural' value. What do I mean by that? Let's look at some examples...

Bart vs The Space Mutants; $25
Pac-Man on the NES, Licenced Namco version; $40
Super Mario RPG; $140

Anyone with an iota of knowledge about gaming would know these games arn't work half of what they're listed here. Not to knock SMRPG, but that price is far too steep even for the most avid of collectors. To clarify, games that arn't specialty priced are not labeled and go for $10.

Back to the story at hand, I stopped by the shop work for my usual parusal, when I noticed a familior word in an unfamilior typeface. 'Dragon Warrior III'. I immediately called over the clerk (one of the younger employees, the owners didn't seem to be in at the time) and asked to see the cart. It looked to be in good condition, as well it lacked a price sticker.

"There's no price on this game, so it's $10?"

"$10, the usual"

"Sold"

Waltzing out the door I could barely contain the grin from my usually stotic self. The game seems to be working perfectly (hasn't even envoked the blue-flash yet), the only thing that would have made this better is if I managed to get the Instructions, charts and maps that came with the original game. Perhaps I should go back and see if they kept them.

Merry Christmas to anyone catching this journal... yeah that's right, Christmas.

I had doubts of how well my gifts would be received this year, but a few last minuite additions really helped. For my Parents I got them a DVD player (with several DVDs of classic comedians like Groucho Marx, Red Skeleton, Abot and Costello, and the obligitory Three Stooges), so now I've dragged them (kicking and screaming) into the next (current) generation of entertainment. To even things out though, I also got mother a gift certificate for a crafts store and my father a similar voucher for a hunting goods establishment.

My brother, sister and neice were pretty easy until the very end, although I did dodge a pretty big bullet for what I had planned. I originally thought to get them a Wii, but after a few choice cercomstances out of my control I got them a PS2 instead. This was spurred by my sister (who isn't a gamer in the least) buying DDR SuperNova 2 and needing to borrow my system. After balancing just how difficult it STILL was to get a system (something I wasn't counting on), and that a PS2 would be significantly cheaper I thought this to be a better option. On top of that, I also got them Gran Turismo 3 and Boogie (for my sister, again she's not a gamer so I don't think she'll complain). My niece was fairly easy; a teddy bear, a large stuffed lion, a tinker-bell ornament, and Pound Puppy.

Overall, they seemed pretty pleased with their gifts. I myself am pretty happy with the Third Season of The Office and two more volumes of the annual Bathroom Reader. I also got a portable laser-pointer and lamp, and other various things.

That's about all for now. My art has been a little less fickle of late so I may acctually have a deluge of peices soon. We'll see how my remaining week at home is. Got a lot of cleaning up left to do as well.

For everyone reading have a merry Christmas, Chanukah, and any similar winter holiday

Anyhow these are the rules...

1. Post these rules
2. Each person tagged must post 8 random (hopefully interesting) facts about themselves
3. Tags should write a journal of these facts
4. At the end of the post 8 more bloggers are tagged and named
5. Go to their page and leave a comment telling them that they're tagged.
6. Make the last one embarrassing and/or shocking. Please, nothing nasty

Fair enough... lets see...

1- I have 40% native Canadian Cree blood in me, yet my skin is as white as bleached chaulk. Well not quite, I tan nicely but I still tend to be on the pasty-side.

2- I really have no specific musical tastes. I usually just think of song to song to whatever memory I have accociated with them. As bands, I probably only like Weird Al, Barenakid Ladies, and Lorenna Mckennit

3- I don't like carbonated drinks. My favorite drink is probably Iced Tea, the ruder the better

4- In counter to the above, I used to be a big coffee drinker, but I quit soon after high-school since it started giving me headaches

5- Dispite being technically inclined, I tend to be resistant to new technology. I never got my own portable CD Player until six years ago, an MP3 player three years ago, and a high-def television not even three months ago.

6- In real life I can sometimes be quite boarish. I'm usually not afraid to share curt words to superiors if I feel I'm being honest about my feelings.

7- I had very little inhibition when it comes to saying things. I rarely think of the conciquences until long after.

8- I acctually have too much inhibition when it comes to being intimate. It's something I've had a difficult time understanding. It's not that I feel uncomfortable being around the oppisite sex, maybe it's more about just releasing myself fully to someone I can trust.

I guess that's all I care to share about myself, I'm rarely this open in public >_>

On a side note, I'm still looking for Freind Vouchers in Metroid Prime 3. I don't have many left to trade back, but if someone's willing to lend me some I'd really appreciate it. My Wii FC is 4136 3615 8283 3576 . Send me a Note if you add me.

Now then, the next eight people to get this... hnn..

Figure I should update this thing once in awhile...

*shoos spiders away from console*

Well I guess a heads up for what it's worth, it'll be my birthday on Monday. Truthfully I find it difficult to get as psyched about it as I once was, but so long as no-one from work finds out (we have very unique rituals there), I'll be fine with letting people know.

In other news, I've been digging into Metroid Prime 3 this week. For my veiw of the game so far I have to say it definatly took some getting used to, the controls that is. On the Advanced setting it's almost unbeleivibly touchy, but after a few hours it feels quite natural and almost nessesary. If you want a tip though, learn to make great use of the Z button to help steady your aim. The rest of the game I have no problems with. It might not have the look and poly-counts of games like Bioshock, but again the artistitc touches help make the game feel as alien yet coheisive as a whole which in the end is much more nessesary that having purdy textures.

I guess there must be an ulterior motive for mentioning both of these things in my journal. Namely, Freind Vouchers. I've gotten 6 vouchers myself, but so far I don't have anyone to trade them with. If anyone's willing to trade (or daresay... donate? ^_^; ) I'd be very graitful. I need me some Mii Bobble-Heads!

My Wii Console Freindcode is 4136 3615 8283 3576

I guess that's all that bears mentioning for now. I know I've been rather slack in getting art up here (moreso than before), but as soon as I get the energy I'll be sure to post my creations here

I admit. I've hardly been a blur of activity on dA lately. My gallery updates maybe once every two months, and that's because I'm very picky about what I show here.

I think a little less excusable is my lack of participation in the community side of dA. I havn't really comment much lately on anyoine else's work unless it's directly related to myself or someone closer to me.

I think this is something I should change, and hopefully I should provide (what I hope to be) contructive comments on more of my freinds and other people's art.

It might be a bit bolsterous to say of myself, but I want to help others who genuinely want to improve what they do. A forwarning I'm hardly a yes-man, but I hope none of my comments come off too negitive. After all, if I feel you can't improve, why would I bother posting?

Although in turn, don't feel neglected if I don't comment much on your stuff. I might be at a loss of anything to say or unaware of the angle your art is commong from. It's taste if not that.

Not much else to say... maybe in turn I can get some constructive veiws of my art as well

NINJA EDIT;

Guess I got the exact oppisite message that I intended. What I ment was I'm going to try abd comment more on other people's Deviations, so no I'm far from leaving dA ^_^;. Expect to see a lot more of me in the near future.

-20 GB Hard Drive
I guess this more or less sets my place in the Next-Gen race. I feel good I'm not putting money on Sony this time around. Of course I still love my Wii, but there is definately going to be a divide between the Wii and the 'Mainstream' games this generation.

So far I've only been downloading demos (Dead Rising, Sonic, several classic games). I'm a bit undecided when I'll attempt playing online too. Perhaps if I can find someone to play TMNT Arcade with.

I got the confirmation a not an hour ago, I'll be moving into an appartment closer to work come the 15th.

I got confirmation from the old landlord in January that he'd be taking over the basement I was renting for himself (he lives upstairs) once my lease ran it's course, which runs out at the end of this month. Needless to say the last few weeks were a bit like 'crunch-time' for me.

At the new place, the rent will be much cheaper (almost $150 less), I only need to worry about setting up hydro (which apparently runs for about $70 a month there).

Needless to say, I'll likely be without internet for a short while... man am I going to be bored.

I found it interesting how this effected my art. Naturrally my art takes me some time to manifest to anything show-able. When I was getting nervous about finding a place in time I was telling myself I'd devote less time to art and games to make sure things went smoothly...

... interestly enough, I've had three peices done in the past few weeks. Perhaps I just used art to take my mind of things.

In any case, I'm a little anxious about moving, I also have little time to get things packed and getting things arranged (thankfully, most of my stuff is still boxed from my last move). I'm also a bit behind in doing my taxes too. Maybe I REALLY should put a stop to my art to catch up with life x_x.

S'all for now. Stay frosty and I hope to be back soon...

Well, been an awfully long time since I've posted any art or journal entries. Laziness abound I suppose.

For my requests I'm more or less still at the same point as last entry. I've got 6 more requests to finish for...

:iconLupis1:

Granted this pushes the total amount of requests to 11, but I was a little less than timely in updating my journal to reflect that, so I took one more.

As to when I can get them done, I can say that the situation hasn't improved much (still in a bit of a drawing slump) and can only get worse (With the release of the Wii next week). I've had a spark of inspiration hit me and I've worked a bit on one request, hopefully I'll be able to complete it soon. My appologies to everyone on this list for the delays.

Speaking of the Wii, my original plan was to rent a car and head to the city in the early morning, but a store opened this week in my town, and they said that they would have about 18 units in. Rather than take my chances, I might just camp locally. The only bad part is we live in the bible-belt, so stores arn't open on Sundays. A day late, but the weather is starting to get worse, so maybe driving in the early morning in the opening of winter (for someone who hasn't handled a vehicle in well over a year) might not be the best idea anyway.

To wrap this up, I got a question for more of you artists out there. Another personal debate mostly on how I approach other artists and comments on their work.

I really don't make alot of comments on other people's art. The reason for this is that I don't want to unless I have something meaningful to ask or comment on. That is not to say I don't feel the art itself isn't good, rather I really prefer to help artists with critique if I feel there is an area they can improve on.

I think commenting on someone's work, if they really want to improve themselves, is just heartless if all you have to say is 'Aww that's cute!' or 'Thats frigging awsome!'. It can be a confirmation that indeed the art was good and I suppose you'd need that sort of encouragement now and again. But I wouldn't mind hearing more often a look at the method of how I draw my art, especially when I give a paragraph or more describing the tools and techiques I used. While I don't want to give the cliche that I think my art is horrible, I really wouldn't mind hearing from more people as to how I can do what I do better, maybe even making drawing much easier and to that end help me out of any slump or mood of simple laziness I'm in.

I guess something else to consider is weither I'm being pretencious in asking this though. I should appreciate all the small comments as well, I guess I really just want to take my art much more seriously. Its one of the few major hobbies I have outside of videogames anyway.

~JayManney4Life 's James

10 - 5 completed - 2 unfinished = 3 open slots yet. There were others who commented, but if you get me a confirmed idea I'll lock you in.

In other news, there is also another scrap I submitted, if it's posted feel free to take a look.

I do have a bit of a question for those who visit my DA gallery. It's likely pretty plain I have a largely BF audience. And while I try to avoid posting too much some of my art to the subject is posted in my gallery. But here is a bit of a canumdrum. Should I freely post my BF art here if I feel it is of adiquate quality as a picture itself, or should I stick to more regular art in hopes of being taken more seriously as an artist myself. I'd hate to go one way and panter to one audience to the degree I'd be taken as a joke as a artist, yet it might be a bit of a betrayl to my full picture as a person to avoid the subject all together. So what do you guys think, both BF and non-BF veiwers and fellow artists?

Thats all for now. Now I'm off to make my fingers cry and finish off Trauma Center for DS. Need to get myself ready for when the Wii version comes out.

Heyla again

A quick update on the picture offer. So far I have five entrys, listed below in no particular order...

1: Frisky Woods (Picture of Sunny)
2: Project Omni (Picture of Sarah
3: Rya Mcshme (Picture of her Doll)
4: Richter X (Picture of himself)
5: Microwave (Picture of Tails working)

Basic math says I still have five more openings, so if you havn't seen the rules the only things I won't do is nudity or anything overly sexual in subject. Most everything else is fair game.

As far as progress, I've got a sketch of one of the pictures done. I would have worked on more, but my headset conked out on me (4th one so far, I swear I should just get wireless). I got an odd habit of needing to watch something while I'm drawing, and listening to something while I'm working with the computer (such as Podcasts and the like). So yeah, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. As I get them done I'll note the recipiant and if I'm happy with the picture itself I may post it in my gallery.

In other news, we had a 'fun-day' at work. Taking the day off we went to a resort for a series of 'Olympic' slash 'Fear Factor' events. Things started out well enough for my team (The THRASHERS yo!) in the Segway obstical course (perhaps not suprisingly, the hardest part of riding those things is keeping still), but things went downhill from there. Of course, another one of the more interesting events was eating crickets, grass-hoppers and the like (at least they didn't wuss out that much for calling it 'Fear Factor'). Honestly it wasn't that bad, kinda reminds me of a very try popcorn kernal shell. I just wish I had gotten a chocolate covered on in lue of my 'lightly spiced' variety. And remember they are a delicacy in some places (granted, properly prepared like these).

But to top the day off, I managed to catch a ride to the new Staples that opened in town here, and picked up (along with a new head-set) a DVD writer with light-scribe. Should make backing up all my anime that much easier (especially for falling behind as I have).

Anyhow got three days off work now, so hopefully I'll get some drawing done, as well as some other personal projects.

Yeah, thoght I should start using this thing, might be a little fun even thought I don't have much to write about. Letsee, as formentioned I live in Canada. My current occupation is literally making medicine. My main hobby is video games. And did I mention I like cucumbers?

In lue of my outcomming on DA, as well as a kick-start offer on another person's journal (The more awsome then the average chu, Lilchu, I'll draw a sketch for the first 10 people to comment. This'll also work to draw more attention to my page, hopefully (and fill my ego). Similar rules apply that I won't do anything overly adult (although one could tell from my current gallery I do have a hand in babyfur art). As for ease of use please include a reference picture, or a VERY good description (I prefer the former).
