I dissolved Shepherd Rugby, found a local club in northern Virginia that is willing to absorb the remaining players. My leg's fully healed, just needs rebuilt and rehabilitated.

Changed major to CIT, looking to change it again and leave my current department completely. Athletic coaching major looks promising and is something I would enjoy, it would give me a more active lifestyle than a code dog or sys admin. I've decided that I want to do something rugby related with my life, whether that be coaching or playing or something else I'm not sure. All I know is I'mma train to play and do my best.

I'mma be a legend.

In more important news, Shepherd Rugby is up and running, in training to make their debut in the spring! Unfortunately, I'm sidelined for the rest of our training season with a distal fracture to the fibula in my right leg. Accidents happen, and this was one of those times where it happened to me. I won't be playing with Shepherd in the spring most likely, I need to pull about $10k together and I'll be in New Zealand at Massey University playing for their club while spending a semester studying abroad. I'm trying to find a way to raise funds for this trip. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to drop me a note or comment on here.

I needed the vacation, that's for sure. Now I'm back to the grind, photographs to be shot, stories to be written, and life to live.

I must say that the past few weeks have made this summer better by a full hundredfold. I've been so happy, everything is finally going well and I have a new companion to thank for it, she knows who she is, and most of you reading this probably do too. Can't wait until she's back home in a few weeks.

I've gotten back into playing Magic: the Gathering at a competitive level, and have formed a small team to travel around to various tournaments. LET THE SPONSORSHIP HUNT BEGIN! Ok, so to start off I'll be honest and say that thus far I have only see the anime in passing. That is changing, as I just downloaded the entire series off of iTunes (watching ep 1 as I write this).

Mori Kotaru's Gurren Lagann is still the growing up tale of Simon the digger, but we see a slightly different art style as is expected between artists.

Art Style - 4/5
Mori's style of drawing is the perfect fit for a series like Gurren Lagann where you see a heavy mix of action and comedy. Composition of the pages is great and the frames flow together well to make seamless storytelling. The only downside I see to this style is sometimes the frames are just too busy (cluttered, too many things going on at once), but otherwise I love it.

One thing I was glad to see Mori keep from the anime is the comedic lack of care for realism, like the page above in which Kamina happens to draw his katana from the scabbard and the blade appears to be over 5 feet in length.

Characters - 5/5

Simon You wouldn't expect such an unsuspecting and innocent child to be the protagonist of a senseless mecha beatdown story, but it's also a story about growing up. And even in just volume one you see the quiet Simon start to come out of his shell.

Kamina Comedic relief? Badass older brother figure to the protagonist? Both? You decide. Either way every word that comes out of this man's mouth is ridiculously hilarious, even when he's serious. He is just one of those men that believes in every dream, and lives for that ideal. Dreaming a reality.

Yoko Littner Honestly, if TTGL wasn't about Simon coming into his own and was more just mindless action, you would expect the protagonist to look like Simon and act like the scantily clad Yoko. She can be serious at times, toting around a rifle that's longer than she is tall. Honestly the word I'd use to describe her is ballsy, particularly for a female.

Dialog - 4.75/5

"WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM KICK!"

"Do not believe in yourself. Believe in me, who believes in you."

I mean really, dialog is hilarious and top notch, I can't stop laughing when it's supposed to be funny, and when it has its serious notes I'm drawn in and listening quite openly.

Overall Average - 4.58/5

I get the feeling I'm going to love the rest of the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann manga (and anime!). Can't wait to write another one of these for anotehr series soon.

By the looks of my economic situation and looking forwards to the future, I'm going to be canceling my plans for upcoming conventions. I cannot afford to continue living from con to con and expect to save up any money for after university when the real world hits. My most sincere apologies to those of you who expected to see me at cons or in certain cosplays.

I will however be trying to set up private shoots for cosplayers, and I will also be working on small costume projects so that I can cosplay outside of conventions for other shoots and whatnot.

Otaku Fest was a flop for us business wise. We had a blast there, but returned home with no new work. Maybe it was the fact that we were at a small con and so things were a bit out of the price range of people there.

[Rant]
But don't look at me in disgust when I tell you the completely hand-crafted five and a half foot long sword is nearly $100. It took nearly two months of our time while simultaneously attending college to construct it. If you want something to look good and get done fast it isn't going to be cheap. If you'd rather we build you a piece of shit and ship it to you the next day, hell I'll send you an unpainted ten foot wooden plank for $5-It sure as hell won't look pretty but you'll have it in two days total (I promise!).

I've been told by ~ElkTheBurning that this was not the best of years and that the event has been better in the past. Unfortunately, for those of us who experienced this as our first Katsucon, it left a bad taste in our mouths. Panels I was excited for were being updated via twitter as canceled left and right, we were pre-registered and spent 3 HOURS waiting to get our badges, standing in line with those who wanted to reg at the door. Then they were pulling the at-the-door people out of line and sending them forwards.

People who were just showing up to reg were getting accelerated and being allowed to enter the con before those of us who took the time to pre-reg:

FUCK?!

Where's the point in pre-registering for a con when you can't just get your badge and go?

Beyond that, things were crowded and are best referred to as a clusterfuck.

Things look promising for Katsu 16, HUGE location at a beautiful resort.

Ok, so they're over-edited, poorly planned, semi-out of focus, and so many other things can be wrong with these shots. I didn't think I'd need my tripod, so genius that I am I left it at home. Most of the shots were originally horribly underexposed so that I could get a reasonable shutter speed to hand hold the camera. I need to stop relying on PS to save my ass all the time and start thinking when I go out to shoot. I know I can do it, I've done it before, so there's no reason I can't now.
