What to do...

As you all have probably noticed, this group hasen't been updated in like 2 months now. The reason is that I really had a busy time this last few months and therefor I didn't have much time to spend on dA.
Now that my time is slowly returning to me I got to wondering what to do with the group. Since all staff members seem to be having the same problem (or just plain lack of interest).

Now I want to know what you think: I can put some effort into recruiting new members and pumping the group back into activity. But I don't know how many people still visit here and how many of you would like to help out. So is it worth the energy?

What I ask of you is to answer to the poll I'm making in a minute. Depending on that outcome I'll decide if I go on running this group or maybe let it die

I'd like to think there is still enough people around to run this thing, and this trully was an amazing group and I'll take the blame if it doesn't work out anymore, but now I want to know what you think.

Recruition!

Ok, first of all: I'm back, and I'm sorry for the long delay. (It took me much longer than expected)
I had announced to be away for about 2 weeks, which turned out to be almost 4 months. So, here are my sincere appoligies.

Having said that, there is another important announcement I have to make:
TerraGeneration is recruiting staff members!
A lot of the staff that used to be on here doesn't have enough time to check in regularly or has left completely, so we're looking for additions to our team.

The following positions are open:

News Hound (1)
As a news hound you will be in charge of the look of our journal. You'll write the contents and search for interesting news/facts about Terragen. Knowledge of CSS is a plus.

Staffers (3)
Staffers are the core of our group. Staffers will handle join applications as well as upload art submissions to the group gallery.

Artpack Manager (1)
The Artpack Manager will handle the artpacks. (I will also do this, so you will be working with me, don't let that scare you ) They will think up theme's and make compilations of all the entries.

Applying
If you're interested in helping this fine community get back on it's feet and willing to do some work for the group. Then we would like to hear from you! Send a note to *TerraGeneration with the subject 'staff positions'. Make clear in the note what position you would like to fill and why you think you're the right person for the job. (But don't make it too long )

Also if you have any suggestions about how we could make this place better, don't be afraid to notice me, ~Vonihi.

The Artpack

So, I was just wondering, who's planning on entering in the artpack. Have any partnerships been made at all? Please let me know if you're still interested

Terrageneration is proud to present their sixth artpack: Collaboration. "One can make the world work on his own, but together we can build a world worth living in." Find a partner and start rendering.

Artpack Guidelines:

1) For this artpack, as the name suggest, you will have to team up with other TG members to form a group to make so called 'Collaborations'.

2) Groups are made out of 2 or 3 deviants.

3) There is a limit to one submission per group.

4) It is allowed to be in more than 1 group, with a limit of 3 groups per person.

5) All images must have a Terragen render as their base.

6) Minor post work is allowed. Its ok to fix contrast, color balance, sharpening, and similar adjustments. No cloud stock though, we want to see your skills with atmospheres.

8) Each submission must be a new deviation, which means no preexisting renders.

9) Please put your names on your pieces as well, but please very subtly, it will not be submitted without a name!

7) Deadline for entries is going to be the 31th of January.

8) Note us (all notes must have the subject line "collaboration artpack") with a link to the image for it to be uploaded to the group gallery.

How to find a partner:
Here are a few ways to find a partner to work with:
You can send a note to *TerraGeneration with subject line "artpack partners" and state in that note what you think you are good at (for example terrains, atmosphere, point-of-view, post work, etc.)
I will then put your name in this journal so other members searching for a partner can see you are also looking for a partner.

As you can see the subscription to TerraGeneration has disappeared, and unfortunatly since the leaving of our founding member in areas of the club, it seems that we won't be having it again anytime soon, so we're gonna have to do without HTML and CSS journals I'm afraid.

Right! The staff at TerraGeneration have an important notice, we ask that anyone that is making a submission to TerraGeneration save their submission as a Jpg file not Png, as we have difficulties in saving Png for resubmission.

However if you only JUST decide to submit it having had uploaded it as a Png a while ago, we then are willing to be flexible. And ask that you resave it as a Jpg, then contact one of the staff members asking for their e-mail address, then e-mail us the Jpg file, along with a link to the Png on deviantART.

Okay...confused? Let me recap in an easier way.

ALL SUBMISSIONS TO BE JPEG! WE CAN'T SAVE AND THUS SUBMIT PNG!

Activity
First things first, =TerraGeneration is really sorry for the lack of activity in the last few months. We're going to try to start things up again.
A lot of the crew has left and I'm not even sure of who's still active. The next few days/weeks will be spend on reorganizing the staff and maybe recruiting new staff members. More information will follow on this subject.

Artpack
On the other hand I'm a bit disapointed in you, we've only gotten 6 submissions for the Mountain artpack. I've decided to postpone the deathline for the artpack to next friday (15 september). In the hope that more of you will participate.
Since =KingBD and =realityfaery have left the staff you can send your notes with questions to me, *Tice-cream.

Terrageneration is proud to present their Fifth artpack, Mountains. Big and small they come in all sizes. Singular or in ranges ..Gigantic and huge sometimes the source of spectacular plane crashes . Great effort will have to be put in to these entries this time since the winner of this artpack will have a feature in an upcoming issue of World Creators thanks to =Suirebit so fire up Terragen and give us your best

Artpack Guidelines:

1) All images must have a Terragen render as their base.

2) All Post work is allowed this time as long as you can tell its a terragen ..then go crazy just do your best and make us proud to post it.

3) Collaborations are going to be allowed, so feel free to team up! This would be great way to get to know your fellow terrageners.

4) There is a limit to one submission.

5) Each submission must be a new deviation, which means no preexisting renders.

DA V5

Version 5 of the DA website launches on the 7th August. Not only does this give the site a very nice new look but.... the groundwork will be put in place for 5.5.

What's so important about 5.5 might you ask? It's the party system. If they manage to achieve everything they wanted to, then this club will gain huge benefits. Instead of us admins doing all the hard work keeping the group working (though they all do a fantastic job!!), the members will be able to directly add art, faves and news items to the club. No more sending notes to us and waiting for days for an admin to upload it. I can't wait!

Mini-Comp Time!!

It's that time again for another itty-bitty competition! This time the theme is going to be Terrains. We are also planning on using the winning terrain as the base of our next artpack, it will be lots of fun to see the winner's terrain used by the group. So ok, here are the rules, they are pretty simple

Guidelines:

1. The terrain must be atleast a 513x513, you can actually make it any size you would like, but lets try to avoid those little guys

2. Sorry no collabing, we want to see your own personal skills.

3. Programs to use are unlimited, as long as it is a .ter file in the end it doesn't matter how you get it there.

4. Limit of one terrain and it must be a new deviation. No preexisting terrains.

5. Make a preview of the terrain. It doesn't have to be an elaborate render, just a basic render so that we can see what the terrain will look like when rendered.

6. Send all terrains by note to the group for submission. All notes must be titled "mini-comp: terrains".

7. Deadline for submissions is going to be July 1st.

8. If you have any questions regarding the competition, feel free to note either =KingBD or =realityfaery.

2) Post work is allowed, but only to a certain extent. Add what you want to get the feel just right, but don't go over board, we must be able to still tell that the base is a Terragen render. So its ok to fix contrast, color balance, sharpening, and similar adjustments. We are also going to allow the use of stock to help along the feel of the each particular season. Examples: snow covered trees, birds, grass, and trees changing colors in autumn. Be creative! We will also allow some subtle cloud stock, but please dont replace the entire atmosphere, we want to see those Terragen skills you have!

Basic guidelines of each season:

A) Spring: Green grass, spring showers, flowersare usually the things that are what would come up. So go for anything that is fresh that helps put the point across.

B) Summer: Blue skies and bright suns anything that depicts a wonderful summer day. You can also add in some yellowing vegetation, since this occasionally happens during the heat of summer.

C) Autumn: The changing of the treesbrowns, oranges, yellows, and reds

D) Winter: Snow of coursepsha

3) Collaborations are going to be allowed, so feel free to team up! This would be great way to get to know your fellow terrageners.

4) There is a limit to one submission per season (which means 4 submissions from you if you choose to do all four seasons), this rule may change depending on how many entries we receive for the contest but at the moment, only one folks. Only actual exception is going to be collaborators, who can make individual renders for the artpack as well.

3) Collaborations are going to be allowed, so feel free to team up! This would be great way to get to know your fellow terrageners.

4) There is a limit to one submission per season (which means 4 submissions from you if you choose to do all four seasons), this rule may change depending on how many entries we receive for the contest but at the moment, only one folks. Only actual exception is going to be collaborators, who can make individual renders for the artpack as well.

5) Each submission must be a new deviation, which means no preexisting renders.

6) Please put your names on your pieces as well, but please very subtly.

7) Closing date for entries is going to be the 25th April.

8) Note us (all notes must have the subject line "seasons artpack") with a link to the image for it to be uploaded to the group gallery. Please specify which season your submission is for if its not obvious.

the new points system is being worked on and now we're going to need someone to manage it for us.

=TerraGeneration is currently only maintained by one person, =bigbd1978.

The club has now got 140+ members, nearly a thousand deviations with about 20 new ones arriving daily.

The group attracts over 100 visitors daily.

So, I think it is time that the group took on staff to help with the day to day running of the group.

In particular i am looking for people to fill the following roles:

News Hound

This person will maintain the journals and supply news and regular updates to the community. They will be expected design and maintain the look of them as well.

Gallery Directors (2 posts)

These two will deal with gallery submissions. As notes arrive they will be expected to resubmit a preview image along with the link to the original.

Member Manager

This person will deal with new members and also seek out possible new members and affiliates. They will be expected to welcome new members and be the first port of call if there are any issues arising from club business.

Events Organiser

This person will organise events for the group, such as chat nights, artpacks (maybe even devmeets?), etc.

I will continue to support all aspects of the group, providing cover when any of the staff are unavailable, if you are interested in any of these posts, please send us a note.

hello ive a problem lol
ive submitted this peice

but i dont want it submitting in the gallery as theres mistakes the sky isnt big enough ect ect ..but it was late i was tired an didnt want to go over it again so like a fool i thought is try it again tonight without saving the settings of anything an relying on me memory ..which hasnt turned out to be much good tonight lol
..ive had about 20 attempts but cant seem to get the same effect and its doing me head in lol
What i was wondering is if any of you experts out there can look at it and tell me what terrain ect i may of used ?
as far as i know it was shoreline but i cant seem to get the below the water look again /sob lol

Since we havn't made a good use of this feature so far, I 'd though I'd hunt out useful tutorials and fave them for us. Making (hopefully) a one stop shop for all your Terragen needs

Below are all the submissions we've had. Now for the competition bit, choose your favourite three and send me a note telling me which one is number 1, 2 and 3. You cannot vote for your own and voting will be over in one weeks time.

Every first vote a piece gets scores three points, a second will give you two and third one. At the end the overall winner will get 50 Terrageneration points, the two runners up will get 25.

New Affiliate

Spotted this new club a couple of days ago. They appear to be attempting a similar thing to what we have here, except on a grand scale, they have chosen the small task of digital art!!

Still early indications look promising, well worth a watch or even joining up.

A reminder for those who wish to participate that the Artpack is Seacapes and entries are due by 10th December.

The rules:

Multiple entries are allowed (though may be limited if there are too many!)

The main image MUST consist of a terragen render, although manipulation of the image afterwards in any program you like is allowed.

The pack consists of seacapes, ie. sea, islands, beaches etc. There's plenty of scope to experiment!

Quiz Night & ArtPack

We have a chatroom!!

Quiz night will be held in the Terrageneration Chatroom
on Wednesday the 9th November. The chat will start as usual at 8:00pm GMT and the quiz will commence at 9:00 pm (so plenty of time to chat ).

There will be twelve questions, they aren't trivia based so shouldn't be a problem for anyone who wishes to participate and there will be a pause between each one for a chat and to share thumbnails of artwork. the first correct answer on my screen wins a point.

if after the first twelve there is a tiebreak, then I will pose a thirteenth question to them alone, the first one to get the correct answer will be the overall winner.

Only me =bigbd1978 is aware of the questions and on the night only *TerraGeneration will have admin and kicking priviledges.

The prize is a years subscription to DA for yourself or a friend.

Finally, the quiz is open to everyone, so invite anyone you know, afterall the more people we get in, the more there will be to see your thumbs!

And in other news!

In a brave and possible foolish development, it has been sugested we try an artpack like other Terragen groups, as such I've put up a poll asking for a possible topic upon which we'll base our images!

Submission Change

This affects me more than you, but I feel I should inform you of a policy change.

Instead of resubmitting the full deviation as I have (and getting faves here), I'm going to submit a preview image (the one you get when you "zoom out") and ask people to view the full image in your gallery. I hope this'll help fix the problem we're having

A great deal of fun was had by all this evening (admin wars....).

A reminder to everybody that the chat will be held weekly on Wednesday's from 20:00 GMT, so I hope to see you there

Also, I had a bright idea this evening and after a (very) brief discussion it was agreed that, if you see a very good piece of Terragen art by a NON-MEMBER then send me a note and I'll fave it here in the group.

At this point I must mention that the group cannot fave member's work as that would be a policy violation and could get us banned!

If a person joins who had work faved, those faves will need to be removed to prevent us from breaking the rules.

Next weeks chat will involve a quiz, the overall winner will get a twelve month subscription for themselves or a deviant of their choice.

Depending upon your level of participation within the Terrageneration group, you can obtain points. These points will give you the members rewards dependant on how you particpate.

You gain the following points based upon activity:

Gallery submission = 1 point
Resource submission = 2 points
Artpack submission = 3 points
Tutorial/advice = 4 points

There will also be bonus points awarded after artpacks and during chatroom events.

Mission Statement

Terrageneration is a club dedicated to the advancement as Terragen as an artform. We aim to find all Terrragen users throughout the DAsphere and as a community learn from one another to improve our craft. As such we allow all Terragen users of any level from complete beginner to seasoned expert to participate here on an equal basis, whether it be participating in Artpacks, providing resources, tutorials or submitting their own work to our shared gallery. We expect that the more experienced users will assists the newer members to improve with positive critisism and advice.

To Join

Simply note the club and you will be added to the ranks.

the benefits of joining are:

You will be added to the member list here.

You will be made a member of the Terrageneration chat room.

You can submit items for inclusion to our "shared gallery".

You can earn Terrageneration Points and rewards when you reach a certain ammount.

You will be allowed to submit items to be incuded in artpacks produced by the club.

To submit

1) Submit your piece as normal to the gallery of your choosing.

2) Note me a link here to the club and I will submit a preview image of your work to the same gallery (unless you ask me to do differently in your note)

3) All submissions will have a link to the full view in your gallery in the descriptions and will ask deviants to fave/comment the originals. To this end comments will be disabled by default. Also none of the work submitted here will be made available to Deviant Mobile.

4) If any deviant does fave an item in the shared gallery, I will send a polite note to ask them to fave the original instead.

5) All members will be limited to three submissions each a day.
