But I felt like I was this morning...

I officially lost it at work. I...seized up in a fit of depression, anger, and panic, and ran out of the building. My boss Janine followed me. Helped me calm down. Gave me peanut butter.

Reason for feeling like I was having a mental breakdown? Because I ate cake last night.

CAKE.

Food...really, really, really fucks me up... Literally, I cannot eat without risking some chemical imbalance in my brain... And it...sucks!

So Janine is taking me out to lunch today, then we're going to Borders to find a book on hypoglycemia (because the nutritionist I ended up seeing was crap and Janine had severe hypoglycemia for a long time) and maybe a book on how to eat for my blood type... (AB+, fyi)

Zeus, in this context, is my mother-in-law's oldest cat. He's currently dying. I just spend two hours with Elaine in their basement, Zeus lying under the coffee table which we'd pushed to the other side of the room, as he waits for his liver to shut down completely and take the rest of his organs with it. His lungs aren't doing much better, you can tell it's hard for him to breathe.

He's 11 years old, and I've known him for more than half his life. I started dating Jeremy six years ago. Elaine, however, has had him since he was a young, brash, alpha man-boy of a feline. So she's pretty torn up.

When she called, I finished up the chores I was doing and went over. Zeus was always such a pain in the ass (in a loving sort of way) so it was hard to see him just...lying there.

It was really hard to see Elaine so upset. She adores her pets. Absolutely adores them. And seeing Zeus, the oldest, the one in charge, the one who only ever listened to her, dying...yeah, she's a wreck.

So I had her bring out her quilting from her craft room, set it up in the middle of the basement where she can still be with Zeus, and we spend about an hour and a half in a quilting lesson, since she's pretty much amazing at it, and I've only ever put together one square for the beautiful dragon quilt she made for my high school graduation five years ago. So that helped her get some distraction.

I took home a place mat that she started forever ago, just needs to be whip stitched on one side and quilted. I can do that from what she taught me today. Hopefully the promises of coming back with a finished product and spending some time with her to finish the other five will keep her hopes up a little. Her sarcastic-ass younger son sure isn't gonna help...

Sad that Zeus' death is reminding me of this, but I really do have great in laws. As much as I can complain about them, they're good people. The kind of people that I would want to comfort when their favorite pet is dying. ...Or any other member of their family, doesn't have to be a pet, but you know what I mean. If you think about it, people who are in mourning are...so hard to be around. If that person doesn't occupy a special place in your heart...how do you really give them the attention and love that they need without sounding fake or making yourself look like an asshole, at least to yourself?

So take care in your final hours and in the time beyond, Zeus. We'll miss you. Here's hoping there's tons of birds to chase, treats to eat, and females to strut around on the other side for you. And thanks for reminding us all what family is.

Okay, so I deleted a lot of the really old ones... Doesn't mean I don't love everyone who commented, it just...it was on journals that were no longer current...

BUT TO EVERYONE I DIDN'T REPLY TO, I LOVE YOU!

And I replied to a BUNCH. Then I caught up on journals. ...Then I caught up on deviations...

Now I have this spot on my screen that says 'no messages...' I haven't seen it in so very long...no deviations...no messages...no faves...no journals...

Now maybe I can stay on top of it...

ABoF chapter 2 is almost ready to be posted--maybe tonight, but I make no promises--and I got a couple short stories I'm trying to process...

...Don't gimme that look! I can write short! ...Just...VERY rarely... But there's short fiction up here! ...You probably didn't notice it

But I'd like to write more short fiction so I can send it to magazines. Need money from this damn craft... Or at least publishing credits so I can make money in the future...

In other news: I got another snake

She's a foot and a half long kingsnake, very docile, and a regular eater. And Kaiya is still going strong. She ate TWO mice the other night, so apparently my baby wants to grow up...

Work is getting busy. The busy season has begun. Which is good, the rumors are stopping...slowly but surely...

I'm learning to bead from one of my coworkers. I may be able to sell the things she teaches me to make. Also, I'm going to start a palmistry business to pick up some cash. Teach how to do it, do readings, that kind of thing. I may also be able to teach creative writing at the same place I can do the readings. It's a holistic health center, emphasizes spiritual and mental growth. Palmistry and writing fit in nicely there

I'll let you know when I go over there to check it out, but I only found out about it earlier this week. Haven't gone down there yet because...

I have viral bronchitis! YAY! Except not. Had it since Tuesday, and it's just gotten REALLY bad. It sucks. But oh well. I have prescription cough syrup now, so that makes me happy

So. Parents got back from Mexico.

Background for anyone who doesn't know, reminder for those of you who keep up with my rants:

I adore my parents. With all their faults and my faults and everyone throwing their faults at each other, I adore them. They've given me a lot over my life, and I have been trying very hard to show them that I'm an adult who can take care of herself and that they did a great job raising me and preparing me for the world.

However, once upon a time, my father said that he would help pay for my masters degree, as long as I get it in a timely manner (aka, before I'm 30 or something). While I do not want to take my parents' money anymore if I can help it (all agreed upon loans have been paid off to date)...I still wanted to take them up on this. School is expensive, after all.

So, I called them last night, and lo and behold, they were home. We chatted. I built up the courage to tell them about my scheme. I mean, I went into it KNOWING they'd never pay for all my expenses. That's just stupid to expect that, I'm a grown married woman, I should get a job or a loan to pay for my living expenses. But tuition? They can help with that...right?

Well, I finally told my dad.

His answer was essentially that he had made the offer for me to study abroad and pay for it while I was getting my undergrad and it was turned down. Now that I'm graduated and want my masters, he's not going to pay for me to live in another country while I go to school.

That was not a heartening response. Numbers flitted in front of my eyes as he continued to say it was a good idea, I should price it out, come up with a plan, he things I should try it still, etc. And at that point, I still did want to try. But trying it in two years was not looking possible. At all. So, while I assured him I understood his point completely and that it was alright, I was rather sad to hear it.

This morning, my mother, who had been listening to the conversation via speaker phone, called me. "Honey, I talked to your father last night, and I don't think he made himself clear to you. It sounded like you think we're not gonna help you with this."

...Uh, yeah? Duh? (Paraphrased, I was much nicer to my mom)

"No, honey, he meant that he won't pay for you to LIVE there. We'll give you $10,000 for your tuition." (Those of you in England: Â£5,027.78)

...O_O -_- O_O "Are you SERIOUS?!"

"Yeah! You just have to know we won't pay for your fight, food--"

"Oh, no, I know! I was gonna get a job for that! I realize that!"

MAN, it's been busy! With good stuff.

ENGLAND UPDATE:

I've been talking to people about this idea about going to England for school. So far, good reaction. ...Except my parents have been in MEXICO since the 18th, so I haven't been able to talk to THEM about it, and they're kinda key. Not only do I want their blessing, but I need to know if they'd be willing to help fund this insane little escapade... So hopefully they'll be back soon.

COPYRIGHT UPDATE:

This is a new subject for y'all: I submitted an application for the government's beta testing of their electronic copyright system. And I was accepted! So, as soon as I get my password, I can send ABoF in to be formally copyrighted, and then BOOM. It gets put back up on dA

Shouldn't be long.

FD UPDATE:

Yeah, there's a new chapter of Fairytale Disasters up

And as I've told Andijoys, I hope to get a chapter a week up from now on, because...

WORK UPDATE:

I just don't give a shit anymore. Not about my coworkers anyway. I'm just gonna do my job. If the economy divebombs and Jeremy doesn't find a new job or whatever other shit that could hit the fan, I'm gonna do whatever I can to keep my job. If that means I get to be REAL quiet, so be it. So yeah, work during the day, refuse to let work get me down at night so I can go home and write instead of go home and be weary.

Me: Well, so far I'm interested in Brunel.

Jeremy: Cool. Where is it?

Me: ...London...

Jeremy: London?

Me: Yeah.

Jeremy: *Practically immediately* You know I'll call anywhere home as long as it has a bed and you.

How awesome is that? He made my day, and I woke up in a kind of grr mood, too.

So...the chances of me going to school in England just went up. Now...I gotta choose some places and figure out how to apply...

No, seriously, I had a dream last night that made me wake up at 7:10 this morning. (That being extraordinary as it's Saturday)

I was with a bunch of people that I haven't seen since high school or so. They all were talking about their futures, while I was staying extraordinarily silent. Seemed like they could do whatever they wanted while I...well, couldn't.

Somehow we ended up in an airport. They all chose schools wherever in the world they wanted to go, got in line for the terminal, and were off. Leaving me in the airport lobby. Well, I wasn't terribly pleased, so I went to speak to the person behind the desk, just to see what kind of stuff they offered in subjects that interested me. The woman at the desk said there was a university I could go to--and that the flight left at 9:00 that night. I said I couldn't do it that soon, I have to take time off work, talk to my husband, etc.

I was starting to lose hope when I then asked if there was anything that happened later. She said maybe, looked it up, and found information that I might be able to do later on, months down the road. You have NO IDEA what kind of relief that inspired.

SO. I woke up. First thing I did--got on my computer and started looking up graduate programs in England. If I'm so sick of what I'm doing, I need to do something different. If my husband doesn't like it...we'll have to work something out. I know I can't do it within months anyway. Time to think about it. But...yeah, if I want to get the hell out, I need to start working on getting the hell out.

So far, I found a list of universities, and am eliminating by virtue of whether or not they have what I want to study. I'm in the B's, and Brunel University in West London looks rather promising. I really rather would be in London anyway, since I don't want a car while there, there's plenty to do, and, if I find a school that helps with finding part time work, there will be jobs there. At least in theory.

And you guys thought I was joking in that journal yesterday when I named all those countries that I'd rather be in? Guess again.

Though I have to admit, the prospect of leaving my friends and family for a year or two has crossed my mind in a negative light. ...On the other hand, though, many of my friends won't be living in the same state as me in the space of two years, my sister is off in LaLa Land (aka, Boulder), and my extended family live across the country anyway. So...that leaves my parents and, if he's adamant about not going, my husband. If Jeremy doesn't want to go under any circumstances, I might have to rethink. I du... ]]> ~Thriss

SO! FanTASTic story about one of my coworkers and I!

My fellow order processor and I were speculating. The speculation? She was telling me about how she is certain that salesman 'Okay' is gay.

Honestly, I'm of the same conviction. The difference between Shellie and I is that I really don't care if he's gay, whereas she does. She kept on saying "That's NASty!" over and over.

Then she had to go and ask me "Can you imagine? Seriously, that is sick. Why would anyone want to be with the same sex? Ugh. Can you imagine?"

...Those of you who know me, I'll ask you: do you think I can imagine?

Apparently I can't write during the week. Apparently work stresses me out too much. Apparently I have to go home or RP and play WoW after a long day of listening to gossip bullshit.

Apparently I need to either say something when the bosses come back from their lovely, week long vacation of happiness, or I need to find a new job where I get a desk in an office.

That's just the thing--I can't DO anything about the stupid gossiping and backstabbing and other bullshit because the bosses--aren't--here! They're just not! They're fucking SKIING! AGAIN! Can I go skiing whenever I want please? I think I need to go skiing. Or you wanna know what I really wanna do? Go to see my sick grandmother in Florida. Or go to my favorite aquarium in California with my friends. Or just...go! Just go! Somewhere! Anyone got suggestions? How's Belgium this time of year? How hard is it to get a work permit in England? Someone in New York wanna hire an editor? Someone in Japan want an American they can learn English from?

*sigh*

I'm gonna curl up this weekend. Not in bed, just somewhere away. I'm gonna unwind tonight, write on Saturday before I have to go back to work, play Scion on Sunday, and...do something on Monday.

If this is what life is gonna be for a little while, I guess a chapter a week isn't bad. Better than my current track record. Writing during the weekends, I can make that compromise for a little while. But if things don't improve, and my morale keeps me from writing every day for a couple more months... I'm looking for a new job. I cannot work with these people, not like this.

...Since it's slow, maybe I'll try writing small things. I dunno. Bunny's not around at least. Not for now... Hence why I can risk being on the freakin' internet...

I'm working on the second chapter of Fairytale Disasters, and I've discovered something: I am a big, unintentional fan of alliteration. I hope this doesn't bother anyone. I guess it's something about the way my brain works...

I've been writing for about an hour and a half now, I think. Longest stretch of me sitting down--or, more accurately, lying down--and just writing in at least six months. It's nice

Unfortunately, it feels trying in some ways. Words don't come as easily as they used to. But after reading Download, they've at least been stirred up instead of remaining settled and scrunched together at the bottom of my creative tank. I tend to absorb the writings of others, start thinking along the lines that they write. So, with Eb's very creative manner of describing things, I've picked up on that a tiny bit. At least, I'm striving for it, which is good, because I've always had issues with description.

In fact, the only part of my writing I feel comfortable with is dialog and its flow. I guess RPing will do that.

Anyway, y'all will have to read the chapter when it comes out. At this rate, I don't see why I can't have this thing out in an hour. I've promised it many times before, but the problem was that I had started the second section of it in a particular manner, and every time I tried to continue on with it, I'd hit a wall. I'd backtrack a few paragraphs, try again, and I'd hit another wall. So, as of yesterday, I finally decided to scrap the entire second section of the chapter, leaving only a couple paragraphs of transition, and starting with something completely different. The result is that, instead of being stuck at three pages and constantly having to go back to page two and a half, I'm up to six. This is pleasing

I also have my mystery project to keep on, a review to write, and a favorite character to choose...

Good thing it's not yet afternoon on Sunday

...Okay, so I found a reason for it not to be posted in an hour. My mother called up and reminded me that I was taking her pottery class all this afternoon, which I just got home from. So...I'll finish it tonight. Really, I will.

First: when I got home, Kaiya hadn't regurgitated her dinner. Now, if she can get through another 24 hours, I'll feel safe. It takes about two days for a snake to digest.

Second: I played some DDR. For about 20 min. That's as long as I could last, I'm so out of shape... but if I do that every day, shouldn't be too long before I can go longer than 20 min, right?

Third: I started reading Download by *ebony66136 FOR FREAKIN' EVER ago. Got to chapter 15 and stopped. Interestingly enough, I looked at the dates, and that was about when I started working at that damn movie theater... Over a YEAR ago. Time fucking flies...

But I started reading it again. I'm making myself STOP for the night at chapter 23. But yeah, Ebs wins. I wanted a book I knew I'd enjoy to get me back in the writing habit, with high-quality language and creative insight, and there was Download, all complete and waiting for me

Since it's a novel, I'll probably do my next review on it. It's on dA, but hell, it counts. It's really only a matter of time before she's published, and whether or not she's able to find an agent with a quarter of a brain. Not even half a brain, just a quarter, that's all you need in order to know that she's GOOD.

...It's also a matter of when she sends something out to someone, but that's another fish in an entirely different kettle

...I'm gonna stop now, or I'm not gonna have any material for my review...

I got other dA peeps I wanna read next after Download's done and I've started this Tug of Blood thing that I've seen appear in my dev watch. BUT PLEASE NOTE: I WILL NOT BE WRITING A REVIEW ON EVERYTHING THAT I READ ON DA! The work at MINIMUM needs to be complete, novel-length, and publishing quality. So please, ask for my feed back, but don't ask for a review.

For now, though...I need to tear myself away from the computer...I gotta go to work in the morning... ...*cry*

A third snake has died. Cornelius, whom I have had the longest. The one I have a picture of on dA.

Thing is, he had not gone very long without eating, he was very energetic until the day I found him--there was no reason for him to be dead. I'm honestly starting to believe that these guys did not die through anything I did. I think they caught something. It may even come from something about the way they were treated or fed at Petco. Because I had four snakes. Three of them died. One of them is still alive. The three that died--all from Petco. The one that's alive--bought from a private dealer at a reptile show. And she even ate last night.

I miss Ani, Cornelius, and Atrox. They were so sweet. Literally, I'll wake up in the morning and wish I could see them again. But I hope I can keep Kaiya alive and healthy. She's getting moved to the smaller terrarium in a couple nights, after she's digested her meal. I invested in some vitamins and water conditioners, too. So hopefully...

Some news on the financial front: Jeremy's division at the call center that he's a tech at is being eliminated. What that means is that, by the end of April, he will no longer have a job in that division.

I was freaked when I heard this at first. But I quickly reminded myself that a) He has until the end of April at most, b) he's a second tech, not a lowbie, so he'll be kept on longer than the others as they slowly start laying people off, and c) the call center handles many different accounts. Since he's a second tech and he's worked his ass off, they may transfer him. And actually, we got some hope of that last night. He may be transfered to AT&T. So yeah, it's a LOT better than him coming home one night and just saying out of the blue "I don't have a job anymore." And I'm working, I've got job security, and the money isn't bad. It's not enough to pay all our expenses, but it'll keep us afloat for a while. Worst comes to worst, he's got time to look for a new job.

Meanwhile, I'm taking the answers to the question that I asked of some of you

I've gotten requests to start posting more stuff NOW, which I really want to do. I just have to get in the swing of it. So I started reading more, to help jumpstart the creativity again.

Surprisingly, work was good for me. Took my mind off the crap from this weekend. Made me feel better. Helped that, not only was it busy work, but I was the only order processor, so I had to do everything by myself. I've only been at this position for a month, so the fact that I could do most of it without screwing up was a confidence boost.

I tried writing when I got home, and...gah, I haven't written consistently in so long, I feel like I've atrophied. Anyone know of any good writing forums, or even an RP forum where I have to be descriptive in the game? Any small exercise that I can addict myself to every day? Seriously, ANYTHING where I have to write...

Or hell, anyone want to START something like that through the dA forums? I'm in RP games, but they're either tabletop or just dialog, and I need paragraphs to work with...

I've got a question for some of you. You'll get that question in a comment if I'm going to ask you. It's a good question, I promise

Anyone live in/near Denver? If you do, do you know the name of a bar that has a pair of grand pianos in it? I can't remember the name of the damn place, and I wanna go there again...

I said I'd write again with more positive stuff the next day after my last journal.

The reason why this did not happen is because:

Two of my snakes have died of the same affliction. That's just hard...I loved those guys...

And my father's cousin and her daughter were murdered by her fifteen-year-old son's friend. Both boys are currently in custody, and they're trying to determine whether or not my second cousin had anything intentional to do with the murder of his mother. Fucked up? I think so.

So yeah. Still not feeling great.
