So...

Once again, I'm going to torment you guys with more pictures of my characters.

I just have a quick question for you guys about that: do you like seeing these pictures of them? Or would you rather see something else [and if so, what]?

I'd love your opinions.

Well, I had a pretty swell birthday. My friends got me some really, really sweet gifts, got a neat package full of stuff from my sister, 12 colored pencil set of prisma pencils from my little brother, and I got an MP3 player and laptop from my parents. Now I can draw from my room!

Anywho, I got a gift picture from for my birthday! It was sooo gorgeous: it's in my featured artwork of my characters, if you want to check it out. :3

Her art makes me want to draw something really, really pretty. Unfortunately, it seems that I can't really do anything so detailed and... well, genuinely "beautiful" things anymore. [either that, or I never had the ability to do so]

Which brings me to my next point. I've been noticing that a lot of my art is going into the direction of wacky anime style... Not sure if I like that too much. Sure, I like drawing goofy expressions and stuff like that, but sometimes, I just want to draw something PRETTY. But I can't. D:

I'm gonna try anyway. As for my story, I'm still stuck on the same chapter... Which is annoying, because my fingers are anxious to go on!

Well, my birthday is coming up, and I am completely and utterly unexcited for it.

There's something wrong with that. I'm turning 17, junior year is turning great, I'm having a good time... What the heck?

Do I have a missing chromosome that somehow codes for childhood happinesses like birthdays? Have my parents' outlook on their own birthdays somehow seeped into my mentality?

Dear lord. D:

I don't even plan to do anything on my birthday. Just stay home and do homework. Isn't that pathetic? I don't even have any presents on my mind, other than more college ruled paper for school.



So what are your thoughts. I'll pull up a chair and listen.

Well, it's not really a writer's block. Mostly a writer's nondisjunction [hahahasomebiotermsforyou].

I've been writing chapters that are NOT chapter five of WSMCGE. This usually happens to me, but not to this effect. It's not that I have no ideas for the next chapter, it's just... I really want to write the next next chapter.

So I'm not sure when I'm going to dish out another chapter [though I'm pretty sure this is only pertinent to a few of you, ha! xD].

Anyway, art wise, I've been trying to experiment more. Some aren't going as well as planned... Others, still...

Just a quick update on what's going on so far with deviation updates. Toodles.

I honestly don't.

dA, why do you like making men cry?

Why do people constantly have the biggest, baddest, most stoic man alive cry his eyes out for a kitty he killed, for a woman he's never heard of, and etcetera?

Real life, it's a different story. But still, I find it slightly unattractive to see a guy my age cry. EVEN MORE SO IF IT'S A PICTURE. Srsly people. Sissy men are not hot.

I especially dislike the "crying while kissing" thing. I'll let it slide if they're gay, because they're more "in touch" with their feminine side... But if they're kissing a girl:

NO.

BAD.

STOP IT.

I guess it was because I was raised by a dad who never cried in front of me, or the fact he always said, "men don't cry. Men get angry." I took it to heart. But oi. It's not pretty seeing a man cry. I cringe when I see it in dA. xD

Anyway, what are some funny things YOU dislike in deviations?


EDIT: I'm sorry if I offended anyone with this entry; in all seriousness I'm just fine with seeing men, or anyone for that matter, cry. As long as it's for a good reason [excluding losing a bet. That's pushing it].

This was honestly just for some laughs, and once again I apologize for anyone insulted by it.

I haven't done any traditional artwork in like, forever. D: All I do is sketch, and today I saw that my colored pencils and my watercolors collected dust.

I feel a little guilty, and it's pretty silly. I guess it's because I was a traditional artist in the beginning, but now I'm doing more and more digital artwork. Why?

It's just... Easy. Contrary to what many think, it's way easier for me to do digital artwork than traditional. What I like about digital is that I can leave it off and pick it up another day, and even multi-task and do my homework at the same time. Traditional is stressful. Not only do I have to devote long periods of time to finish it, I have to concentrate on it solely. True I can just drop my pencils and do something else, but not for long; color deteriorates. Not to mention there's no back button.

But it's also really fulfilling to do traditional; I dunno why.

Gah, I wish I had the time to just sit down and do watercolors again. I love watercolors. Don't do it much anymore.

Anyway, I plan to do one more digital piece [if you're one of my SS4A buddies, you've probably already saw a preview], and then I want to do some more traditional stuff... Get back to my roots.

So, my question for you guys: Have you felt some sort of obligation to some sort of media? Or do you prefer one over the other? Branch out from there, I'd like your thoughts.

New York was fabulous. Really different from the west coast though; really loud, bright, and fast. xD I really felt like a country hick! But it was a fantastic experience, and I had fun trying to look for and on the streets, even though they didn't live in NYC. xD

Anyway, pretty fantastic week for me. Decided to stop working on the comic, because I would have no time to finish it and I also found something else to work on instead. D: Too bad, I might put up my scripts and rough drafts though, in case if anyone was interested.

So, I was looking through my gallery to see how much my so called style has changed over the years. And I decided it'd be fun to venture to my old FAC account as well.

And now just comparing that to the pictures I make now, I'm pretty happy. For awhile I wasn't thinking I was making much progress, but if you just make some comparisons between your art now and your art from years before, it can make one feel a lot better. Even from the beginning of this year, I made a lot of changes and strives with my art.

So yeah. If you ever feel bad... This'll make you feel better.

As for the comic, I'm starting to sketch out the second page. It's turning out pretty good. :3 Though I doubt I'd be able to finish it before xmas like I hoped. Maybe next year.

Anyway, I took the daemon test again for the Golden Compass... Surprised that I got the same results as I got last time in June. But I like this name better, so I stuck with my first results. :-D

I love Christmas season.

There's just something special about this time of year; putting up the tree, helping the less fortunate, spending time with your family...

This year will be especially special, since I'm going over to New York to meet my sister at college on Xmas day! YAY!!! :-DDD

Now I know some of you guys live there, so I'm gonna be on the lookout for you... >D

Other than that, I have my annual Christmas art buzz; which is good since I have lots of art to do.

Working on a concept for a short comic; not sure if it'll work out, but hopefully it will.

There isn't.

As long as they are created tastefully and with a purpose.

"Mary sues" nowadays have such a bad rep. because of pubescent teens writing them into spontaneous fanfiction, when really, they can be used in great literature.

If anyone is familiar with Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities, it's pretty obvious. The female protagonist, Lucie Manette, is by far the epitome of perfect: beautiful, compassionate, lovable... And by today's standards, a mary sue.

But omg, it's frickin Charles Dickens! Why the frick would he use a mary sue, they're so bad omgomg...

Uh, no. Lucie Manette was actually a perfect character in the book, because why? Her perfect qualities had a purpose. You can say that she sort of acted as a foil, or contrast, to all the evil that was in the world during the French Revolution; it gave the male protagonists a reason to, well, fight the good fight.

So really, mary sues aren't horrible devices; these sorts of characters can be used very well if there is a motive to their existence, like for all other characters. And that's what most lack nowadays: a purpose.

So for heaven's sake, give yourself a GOOD REASON for creating ANY character in ANY story, sheesh.

Edit: This really isn't directed at anyone; just pent up frustration over the subject during a phase of my life. xD

If you want to see some really great characters that are unique and completely mind blowing, you've gotta watch her stuff. Especially Modeste and Lenore. I fangirl over them. And I'm not really the fangirling type.

And I'm completely lame that I created this journal right after I saw it. Lololol.

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone for all the support that you gave to me over the years. From my friends to random passerby, I feel much better about my art and am pleased that it's going along a path I much admire. :3

Though I'm still in the road block for my story, I think a good way to get out of it is to start writing down a couple of chapters. So I will do so, even though my research isn't nearly complete. Hopefully it will come to you guys soon in the near future.
