University's over :> work has started. I'm volunteering at a photography gallery, and saving up to do a hospitality course. Tossing up between getting barista or bar training. Seems like bar would be better for fitting into the uni term, but...

) and I'm thinking of setting up an art shop there...

I'm also participating in National Novel Writing Month (I'm WAY behind~~~) so that'll also keep me busy but, I do plan to get the tablet out and draw a few things!

Somehow in all this time I haven't gotten around to making inquiries at student HQ about exchange to the UK... although there's so much projects to progress on, so many drawings I need to finish & books and manga I need to read, I seem to get absolutely nothing done week in week out.

My DS might have something to do with the sudden disappearance of my time... hmmm. Order of Ecclessia. ROCKS SO MUCH!!

I'm stuck in the same place as I was with Portrait of Ruin (bad ending stage... which happens in all CV games) and trying desperately to figure out how to kill Albus without... killing Albus. Someone very tartly suggested "Snape". "Snape" is not the answer to killing Albus, thank you. >___>

Anyway, awesome game everyone and I suggest you get it. If you're not confident in sidescrollers, start with Portrait or Dawn though because they're more user friendly.

Urh, yeah. Just wanted to say sorry cuz after a flurry of action I'm not here again for the foreseeable future while Uni sucks up all of my time & creative energies. Check out my blog though, if anything that'll get updated.

A Touch of Oz Stateside

I'm sending some "australian stuff" to a friend of mine in the US in the hopes of procuring some IT fixit prowess from them, and to return the kind present of homebaked cookies he sent me while I was in Japan working at Kogen Hotel.

So far, containing: Timtams, Vegemite. And a special picture I'm putting together to, y'know, bribe. >___>

Actually I was looking for some ANZAC bikkies in Safeway but couldn't find any... are they only available in the season? If that's the case I never realised... we made them once in Home Ec and I had a recipe lying around somewhere but mum didn't like the idea of "political" cookies in the house.
That's survivors of Communism for you.

Anyway!

Some bastard just totally showed up to my page and didn't identify to me the 22,222nd pageview! :< so sad. People, look out for 23,232 and take a screenshot pls, or at least copypaste, and you get a picture!

Hmm what else... spring is here already! I know we should all be worried about the relative lack of rainfall and shortness of cold weather and all (eventually you can't call it a drought anymore... just a desert ;/) but I am totally not going to miss bitter icy winds and schizophrenic weather that Melbourne Winter epitomises. You can't even rug up because the sun'll come out and boil you alive in your layers of fuzzy warm goose down!

There has finally been some CONSTANT sunshine, so I've been running around like a total arts student with a tripod strapped to my backback, crawling around Brighton Pier looking for the perfect photograph on my oldschool film SLR camera that I borrowed from my boss.
HOOHAH!

...and then there's all the film developing costs.

Finally cleaned my room!

Aight. Finally getting out of that "holiday" mode coming back from NZ and wafting in and out of classes

I'm very lucky that no assignments are due in the first 2 weeks besides in-class activities.

Finally the seriousness of the situation strikes me!

UGH I've done it again, set up a blog I don't really want to keep up... I'm probably going to reclaim my LJ, properly start using it and put all my drawings there.
SERIOUSLY I need to stop doing this!

Next item on my urgency list: TTGL present to mail to a man to hopefully coerce some IT aid from him.

What do you think? Should DA be used for coloured, polished pictures you're proud of or for EVERYTHING you do, rough stuff included? Or should that rough stuff be edited / collated to stop waste of space?

GWOAHHH DISASTER ZONE!!

WOAH woah woah flown back in from NZ and crashed into my pile of crap room, I could NOT have left it this messy possibly!
Enjoyed my last day of freedom spreeing around town, watching a free lecture about electric cars at this Design festival thing that's going on... AND THEN SCHOOL STARTED OMFGWHOAH!

Been running around throwing the last of my holiday money at booklists I knew nothing about until 5 minutes ago... and thanks to our uni's awesome planning and that, EIGHT HOURS OF CLASSES ON A FRIDAY AGAIN. Do they revel in our misery? If I made it all but impossible for someone to have a balanced schedule and stuck them with 8 hours on a friday for the 2nd semester running, I'D BE ENJOYING IT. (I have 3 days of average 2 hours per day for the rest of the week... that's how well-balanced my schedule is. D: )

WHOAH. And 1 day left to put together an entry for the *APHetalia-Club ID comp which I promised I'd contribute to! UGH and all my ideas just aren't "Hetalia" enough, what with this history of the British Empire book I've been reading... AND a present / onegai set to put together for my overseas bud! AND I'm waiting on a new MP3 player from magical Ebay fairies! SO MUCH GOING ON!

I haven't even had time to touch the duty free alcohol stash....

But those who know me know I'm going off to New Zealand in 5 days to Snowboard... god knows how I'm gonna get my holiday-softened legs to stand for so long let alone control that brick of a snowboard I have!! But I'm really excited. I live a Zombie's life here so it's nice to have a pulse once in a while

AND THE BEST THING EVER ARRIVED IN THE MAIL!!

And it's not even the essay my (senile) teacher promised she was sending. It's the new Castlevania game! WOOOOO~~

Australians, make friends with Americans. You can save like $60 on games if someone buys them for you overseas, that's postage included. UNBELIEVABLE!
I'm gonna send him some Timtams for the effort. You legend!

Haven't played it yet, been stuck on FFTA2.

Don't you hate it when you sell/throw away/needlessly use that item that ends up being essential to the game's progress?

So you have to ruin the game for yourself by digging through FAQ's to make sure you're safe on every conceivable front from the 100+ hours needed for a complete replay?

Because I truthfully care more about stat advancements and job mastering than I do about plot.... :3 It's a good thing the new game is purposefully anti-powerplay.

AND GAMES SHOULD BE FUN, right?

So why do I keep a comprehensive notebook of all my item syntheses and plan out the job structures of each character?

(lol) Week 11 of 13 of my first semester of uni (since dropping out 3 years ago), I'm starting to get antsy. All the big assignments are getting due, to the point where I'm having nightmares about it. See Design & many arts courses don't have exams (so we get extra 3 weeks of holz! PWN!) but we do have lots of big, conceptual projects which are due. Photo manip sounds like a lot of fun but Design Studio (main subject) is seriously intimidating. o____.''

Sooo to distract myself from that (and the frustration of my boring boring life @ home), I've started to update my Elle Jay and I'm seriously considering building a website (LOL), seeing as that's kinda what I do for a living.

ALSO I want to start sketchblogging, but (besides starting my own place to dump that kind of stuff) does anyone know of a good LJ community or somesuch thing to join, so I don't have to do it alone?
I used to be in this kind of commy thing but we sort of drifted apart...

OR are you happy seeing all the pen and monochrome crap I do on here? I shouldn't think so, I'm pretty prudish about what I dump on DA....

Another 2 months have gone by. Between assignments and work and wasting away in my sick addiction to TVtropes.com, I hardly come here anymore except to check some devs out and throw away messages.

But hey, I'm nearly at 20k!

I draw a lot though. Will endeavour to colour and put these drawings up for you guys. New fandoms I got into & might be drawing a little up of:
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Gankutsuou, Hetalia (kinda maybe), Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (haven't done anything of this yet?? Shocker...) and Mononoke (the medicine-seller! ;3)

Life - -

Yay, it's December, and summer in Australia. The sky is an endless dome of blue and the sun is like daggers here (thankyou ozone hole), no wonder 1 in 3 people get skin cancer. I do believe, btw, that in my lifetime Antarctica will become the last ever ski resort.

Scary Revelation - -

This is really weird and scary, but I've just lately realised that all the IRL guys that I've ever liked or been intersted in have all had the same hairstyle - semi-long hair to just above the shoulders, and usually dark.
When it comes to how I perceive guys, short hair's too simple, long is just lazy (I know a lotta programmers...) Seems it's gotta be in yer face and pastcher neck, and preferably fluffy. And black/brown. And if you have a scary screw-the-world glare of intensity, all the better.

And most of the characters I'm drawn to in anime/games/whatever, whom I will either irrationally root for or love to hate, will have that same hairstyle. Seriously, I've found myself mysteriously drawn to randoms, who have in hindsight shared only this one thing in common.

Case in point: I LOVE hating this guy, totally dig him PRIOR the hair-growing, WORSHIP that guy although I've never played the game, picked this fellow in a series I otherwise couldn't care for, and ditto for this dude. And of course he was pretty cool, and this dude was a franchise favorite, even though I had no interest in that season whatsoever. And... Yeah .

Oh and he's on my wallpaper right now. And he was my first celebrity crush.
OH YEAH and who could forget these two??

And my female all-time idols, while we're at it: her, her and of course her.

And of course my boyfriend's had grown to this length by the time I finally noticed him. And that guy I dated last winter. And my childhood crush/buddy. And the really freaky part?

Last time I went to the hairdresser's, I ended up looking something like Haruhara Haruko with curls.
So it's not that I'm just subconsciously drawn to guys with a certain kind of hair.... I'm also drawn to HAVE THAT HAIR MYSELF. Freud would have a field day...

I believe what it is is my personal style of "Hero hair". It identifies closest with my "self-image", and makes for the quickest, deepest sympathies with characters as they surrogate my story experience. Whacky, huh?

I don't know where this is going, but I think the best possible hero hairstyle for girls is like this, and like that for boys. My ID says so. D:

I mentioned before that I really dig John Butler. If you've never heard his stuff, check out Zebra. I got the whole latest album, but THIS is a song that gives me chills every time I hear it.

for like eternity... or nearly half my DA life. I'm thinking of replacing Angsty Edgeworth with something new, so if you want him go ahead and ask. It's kinda weird to take someone else's icon, I guess... but he's home-made and pre-loved goodness!

Anyway.

I FINISHED ALL MY INTERVIEWS!! - -

Yeah hah hah hah, after 2 weeks and 5 gutwrenching waits in waiting rooms I've finished my interviews for higher education apps this year!
There was a wide range of stuff that I applied for, not really knowing where I was heading or what I wanted to do.... but talking to all the staff and seeing all the campuses really helped me think it through. Now I just wait for the Yes/No/Maybe letters to come, and reorder my preferences at VTAC to suit what I really hope for.

Sorry to all the y.12 applicants but... I PWNED U GOOD.

And I've decided... absolutely nothing! I feel like I wanna do it all!

RMIT has this awesome Drawing-focused fine arts course up in the city, with all the cool street art and funky bookshops and cafes! It'd be really drawing-intensive, learning technical and conventional stuff and moving from that to evolve our own interpretations...

OR the Holmesglen (like, college as opposed to university?) Design course, whose staff were SUPER-friendly and told me my folio was too awesome... teeheehee... They said they wouldn't take me for the 1 year Folio prep / Design basics course, because I didn't need it, and I should change my application to Advanced Diploma, which covers 3 years of coursework in 2 years and leads into 1.5 years of University for the Bachelor's Degree in Design/Vis comm.
This all sounds pretty awesome.
Then there was Swinburne's TAFE, which my mum went to, and I checked out their Graphic Arts grad show... and met the guy who would interview me, so we were all friendly and stuff. Their Prahran campus is right in this funky part of the city and seems awesome. Although Graphic Arts sounded better than Design IV...

AND THEN there was Monash University Design, who had those snarky type design teachers who are so coool, we had a great chat about what design was and where I wanted to go with design and stuff... heheh.
Monash is close to my house (3 stations away) so I'd totally go there as a Uni option.

And Monash fine arts was pretty cool too... though it's Painting, which I really want to know and know nothing about...

I basically picked Design because it was practical / I already knew basically everything there is to know about it in general terms, so getting in would be easy & I could add some flourish to my design career by adding a degree. And design is HELL COOL. It IS style, by definition.

I picked Fine Arts because... I have small and secretive hopes about doing serious art one day, and I really REALLY want to learn how to express myself in visual media. And I wanna learn the technical and historical stuff it'd take forever with a wikipedia... and I want teachers to compel me to do it. THis is not a good career move, but I don't really NEED support for my design career, as I see it.

AND NOW I HAVE TO DECIDE...! - -

A little introduction... - -

Hi.
My name is Marsha, and I'm a hobby illustrator. I work at a small Marketing firmand do a little bit of design and a lot of CSS, HTML and Web maintenance. I once got measured and told I could type at just under 400 words per minute. I type as fast in CSS as I do in words.... *sigh* the things we do for money.
I'm 21, turning 22 on the 1st of December this year.

I dropped out of uni and spent 1.75 years in Japan recently, and will be adding 2 more months to that this coming Summer (southern hemisphere). Generally I'm really international. My preferred place of residence is a nowhere town in the Nagano Alps, but I do have to face my nationality now and then.

Some of the people in this country are really loathsome, and some you have to love despite it, but some really make me happy to be on the same hunk of land as them.

For example!

John Butler of the John Butler Trio. Busker turned musician and manager, Million Dollar Hippie. SO awesome and talented and skilled and excellent in every way! BIG CRUSH!

Andrew Denton. Really smart, insightive and sharp interviewer on TV. Apparently he did Radio too. OLDER MAN CRUSH! Those twinkling, inquisitive eyes got me... go Andrew!

Samuel Johnson. I didn't know his real name, just that he was Evan on the Secret Life of Us...

Hello. I was gonna go to Japan again for the summer break, 3 months in Hokkaido working in an Okonomiyaki restaurant. Hopefully with the economic crisis, all the tourists won't bother coming and we'll have the snow all to ourselves...

But I may have missed my chance, as the cheap airfares at Jetstar finished a week ago and being the indecisive person I am, I forgot to pay.... might cost me $300 more than I intended. *siiigh*

So, I've settled into life in Suburbia with Part-Time Employment doing website work (8 hours on my arse...) and etching away at the University Application Process on my days off. And long, lazy weekends where I bum on 3 different IMs and try to figure out the most comfortable way to use Gargantuan Tablet & Cute Tiny Laptop in unison. I'm starting to remember where I found the time for lengthy DA browsing sessions and forum memberships and this needlessly long MSN contact list...

In all seriousness, I rolled out of bed and crawled into my sis's bed next door.... helped mum with groceries, rolled back into her bed AND SPENT THE NEXT 12 HOURS THERE. Isn't the lazy life grand? I think she's hoping I leave so she can go to sleep soon...
Over the coming spring I can look forward to losing all my muscle and putting on slabs of fat as my metabolism does an about-turn for not having to carry and steer heavy boats full of people down tricky shallow rivers anymore. I miss eating food for needed energy, not habitual hungers. I miss nature, and the masochistic pleasures of trying to make a living from it... I miss my Hokkaido family, and speaking Japanese every day... I miss clean air, using my legs for walking, heck, I miss sunlight. I'm sure anyone who's ever worked in an office does.

Buuut that's enough about me, or at least the non-DA me. I've finally figured out the FOLDERS feature in galleries and sorted all my stuff, plus taken out about 1/3 of my gallery that I wasn't quite so proud of as had been 2 years ago. Will be deleting lots as well in the coming days.
Will be dedicating my energies in the next few weeks towards silly art in either Castlevania, Phoenix Wright, Star Ocean or Gurren Lagann or the myriad of shows and things I'm kinda vaguely into, feel free to try and influence me with whacky, silly ideas and make me biased towards YOUR preferred fandom! Since my old game-comrades are too busy for me these days...

That's about it. This is the kind of desparately slow life moment where if you put in a comment like 'gee Trillzey, you're so skilled and talented and yet so bored, aimless and dissatisfied with your current intellectual surroundings.

ps. DID YOU KNOW Australians have to pay about $90 for a new release game, EVEN FOR THE DS?? Even with exchange rates that's $70 - $80 American dollars... And this is 6 months / 1 year AFTER the US Release. I could save HALF MY MONEY having someone in America buy games for me and mail them. Paying for postage, it still only comes to $40. Then I wait for the AU release, point and LAUGH AT ALL THE SILLY PEOPLE.

I hope people do mean things to you, whoever you are whose fault this is!

Does QWERTY really give you more Carpel Tunnel Syndrome?

Hi guys! I just came back to DA first time in months and saw it all looking flashy, and all yours arts looking lovely in my inbox. Shucks, 953 pictures! Good thing living in the sticks hasn't lost me my typing ability.
Chilling out in inner Hokkaido watching the sun set & rise in front of Mt. Yotei every day. What a beautiful place to be!

Will be home when my VISA runs out end of next month, look forward to seeing more of me (and the long-awaited reunion with my MASSIVE WACOM INTUOS3 TABLET OMG ITS THE SIZE OF A TABLE) when I'm no longer digital-art disabled. Right now I only have a mouse and trackpad, enough said.
Might take some photos of pen drawings if it really makes you guys happy...

Gonna be busy the next few weeks with Japanese Holiday season, Obon. Not all about ghost stories and dead relatives and temples and things, don't get too masturbatory in your fantasies of the dream isle of the Far East. Just lots of Japanese families with screaming kids trying to take advantage of extremely short holiday allowance and taking their kids on whirlwind vacations SOMEWHERE, ANYWHERE. All planes are booked out, all trains will be costing 4 times as much guaranteed and anything remotely child-oriented will be booked out months ahead of schedule.
I guarantee it!

Wish me good luck taking these kids down the river.

I also have the job of glorified babysitter for youngsters 2 - 4 years old who don't officially qualify to ride on the regular rafting tour. We go to this lovely flat bit of river and kind of float down with a boat and inner tubes and fishing nets and things... it always turns into one long water-fight in the end, and kids needing to go to the toilet.
Always very sweet, and they sign my guestbook in big colourful misspelt letters at the end!

Slept In This Morning...

Or I would be on a boat floating down the river right now. I'm not sure how I feel bout my first trip of the year, but the house sure is nice.

Anyway!

I used to be a collector. It must be something to do with when I first got my laptop (in year 8) and when I was first introduced to mp3s, and the then-rising-in-fame Napster in a Geography class. It had a huge effect on me.
I went nuts tracking my selective favorite-of-the-favorite songs from the little green-eyed whitehead demon thing. I spent HOURS on a 56K modem, fending off sleep, homework and whoever else wanted to use the internet in the house. I remember when my collection first hit 20 songs... it was a big milestone for me.
Of course after that my harddisk space improved, we got cable and winMX was the next thing Napster used to be before you had to pay for it. I went on an intense collecting spree of all my favorite artists... the day I dug through the Rolling Stones website for song ideas and found Radiohead, would send me on a year-long collecting obsession, digging albums out song by song... by song. This was a gleaming-eyed, mouth-frothing kind of happiness.

Anyway, many years later that laptop has died and gone to microprocessor heaven and I'm in Japan with a new Dell Inspiron sucking on our Pension's complimentary wireless.
And it's all about Torrents now. If I want to reinstate my Radiohead song collection, I dig up a discography torrent and I have the lot in my Azureus folder the next morning. Sure it's not instantaneous... but the drastic change in scale has really made my net life feel like it's lost meaning somewhere.

Speaking of, I always liked the Beatles. I always thought I liked the Beatles. Chances are half the world's good, catchy simple ad jingles with interestingly psychedelic lyrics, half the songs you can sing with everyone at karaoke even if they're Japanese, half the songs you start humming when you're in a good mood started their life 40 years ago in John Lennon's head.
Or something.

Anyway, every other day you find some new good, memorable, timeless song that they wrote. You put them all together and there's TONS of good stuff, when you know half the artists in your collection will have maybe 2, 3 good songs.
So it figures that I went and torrented a complete Beatles Discography to peruse in my private time.

I really, really, really was surprised.
There are a LOT of songs I don't know, and don't like, and don't want to get to know.
What the hell.
I guess the Beatles had a good song / unmemorable song ratio just like any other band, even at the good end of the scale. They just have like 50 albums to apply it to.

Anyway. I feel like my musical cravings have been choked by oversimple oversupply. It's like I've got eighteen million dollars; nothing means anything anymore. ;/

It is coming onto November, cold and autumny here in Hirafu, Japan. Only ONE WEEK OF RAFTING LEFT!!!
Then I'm gonna have to move out of these cushy dorms with widescreen TV and free internet, and into old staff house... the house that even mice won't live in cuz it's such a hole.
And THEN I'm gonna find a job that'll make me enough to live, feed myself and snowboard on my off days. YAY!

YEAH. I am now officially a river guide! (level 1, 2) FUCK YEAH!!!

EDIT: I just got stuck on a log and flipped a raft fulla schoolkids, on my 2nd day not 2 metres from the goal point.

You live and learn, I guess. My life is doomed to be interesting. I owe the other 17 guides on the river that day a beer, and/or a drawing. GOMEN NASAI MINNA-SAN m(_ _)m

I took and passed the throwbag test, I took and passed the Z-drag test, managed to remember all my knots, got 3 things wrong on the paper test but perfect the 2nd time around, and my practical test was aced as well.
YEAH DUDE and today I took my first customers down the summer course (aka boring course). LOL yeah, my voice is sore from screaming commands but it was fun. Boys are little shits, and girls are too weak at paddling but in the end all you really have to do is keep them entertained.

But I'm finally earning money, and doing odd jobs along with the other interns at the HQ to make some extra cash. Now that that's conquered, time to mail my travel agent and move my ticket to november, go to Kutchan and get my Gaijin Card updated, and get to Sapporo before next month and get my VISA extended. Hopefully.
Well I'm an Aussie Working Holiday so there shouldn't be no problem. And if there is I'll just marry Chihiro, one of the senior guides who's looking for a wife. YAY paper marriage.

Anyway happy times! Too tired and enjoying of the partaking of life to really miss you all, but I try sometimes!

Really Hungry...

Hmmm. The weather has gotten bad again. It's amazing how much difference the lack of sunshine makes.
Being drenched by brown silty riverwater, balancing on rubber raftwall with a cold-numbed foot wedged under seating while paddling with all your burning biceps have to offer, trying to find something to push against while facing into the current; your trainee guide relentlessly yelling 'One, two! One, two!...'
It's amazing how much difference the sun makes.

Today we saw our first customers through a stretch of river, a spring course that's doubled in height since a day ago. Hongkongese that kept waving their paddles and messing unintentionally with a sign system I'm only beginning just now to learn.
They say the pipe that pumps water in a third of the way leads from a treatment plant, sewerage and farm chemicals that make for clean ferry practise. One, two, one, two, keep the right angle and you can cross the most forceful of currents in a neat horizontal line. Banked in the eddie and dodging the dead tree-branches overhead, my Nepalese teacher begins singing some song I don't understand, to the sky and the birds and the dirty water. Chie, girl guide in quasi-training carried over from last year, relentlessly tries to teach him and his ancient associate how to say 'Well done' in Japanese.

The river looks brand new, but isn't. One look and the folds and the curves, the way the current goes is familiar. Only the rocks are gone, submerged by snow that's finally melting off the world-famous powdery ski slopes of Niseko. Tree branches washed away in the current catch on paddles now and then; a tree falls in while the trainee boats all park in an eddie, shivering listening to a lecture on retrieving the unconscious and punching out struggling rescuees.

The customers finally come, pass, all ok, and nobody can feel their feet anymore. A raft full of air can be so heavy at the end of the day. We struggle in black exhaustion up, one foot in front of the other, onto the trailer, tape down.
Waves and smiles for the customers as they laugh and chat in a language none of us speak and the guides masochistically rush to carry their rafts. I can't REALLY believe I'll be guiding these people through the curves and rapids a month from now. It'll all be up to me, 6 or 7 people to a boat, 6 or 7 lives in my hands. Right now my steering strokes are weak and mis-aimed and the boat spins, or turns, without me knowing where or why, but I'm beginning to understand. Kind of slowly.

At the end of the day off a raft and onto a bicycle, reward for a day's hard work in a downhill cruise with the chilly spring mountain breeze in my hair and jacket and everything. Off a bicycle and into a warm warm shower. Lodge cleaning duty, waiting to use the kitchen with no particular enthusiasm, either pasta or cup ramen before the shopping trip tomorrow. But the stomach, always hungry, from a day's very very hard work.

And that, right now, the day I had.

So I've come back to life!

Cuza I been Tagged by nuu. And I can't draw so I gots no reason to check my DA these days :/ just waiting for the laundry to finish.

I arrived in Osaka today and saw one of my friends off for the airport... I guess I knew it wasn't gonna last, but I still didn't feel like chatting to the other aussies who got picked up by the bus from all the ski resorts. It killed the last of the magic somehow.

It's really hard to leave somewhere you like, because in leaving you don't even realise how much you're not going to remember. The way the pavement smelt, the way the Tsugaike Kogen bus stop in front of a roundabout nobody much bothered following road rules with inevitably sucked up so much of your life and waiting time... The way the snow was all slushy, crunchy yet hard and unbearable under your snowboots by the end, the way the hot wind at last blew temperate climes through the mountains and finally put an end to a miraculously extended winter...

I'll always have really good memories. Life was intense on a ski slope it was nearly-impossible to get away from, now it seems kind of moot that we had to send friends with errands on their days off, bus trip for half an hour and half an hour by foot to make it to a convenience store that stocked prepaid phone credit.

Oh life!

Anyway Osaka smells, this area is (understandably) worth the mightily low pricetag. I'm booked in a youth hostel for 2 weeks and I paid in advance, waiting for word from my teacher that just came. Interview either tomorrow or the day after - crap, my luggage hasn't even arrived yet. Well, I guess my slump around the city isn't gonna be as long as I planned. I was looking forward to the bit AFTER 2 weeks, when I got to stay with friends and hopefully have a fun time. It sucks not being able to knock on the neighbour's door and ask them to read a phone email for me cuz I'm crap with the kanji.

Oh well. At least the room is nice for what I'm paying for it. It's like all the cool young people moved to the city centre and left all the old, unemployed and aimless people here in this nowhere neighbourhood. Them and their bicycles. God, soo many bicycles.

Will dig out Kimu's photo CDs and indulge myself before some cup ramen dinner and much needed ofuro.

Hi. So. I updated once but it didn't load, I guess.
I'm on a friend's superfancy mac laptop using wireless internet at the wireless internet cafe at the bottom of the Tsugaike Heights ski slope, in Tsugaike Heights town. The cake is tasty, the coffee is average and it is already march. Where did the time all go anyway?

The snow has finally started to turn into rain and melt, which doesn't stop all those crazy ski bums from being all over it every free moment of their day. The work is easy (as ever), the customers are few (you can't even ski up to our cafeteria anymore, they have to truck in snow so customers can come in) and I only have 3 days of work (and about 7 days of accommodation) left before I must find my way in the world once more.

My plans are to go to Osaka and bum at a hostel until my humble paycheck runs out, at which point I go begging to my many new friends' houses and bum accommodation and maybe cup ramen off of them. All of this rinses and repeats until my teacher replies to my damn email and resume and tells me if and when I have a job / job interview for an english teaching position.
In the meantime the time all disappeared, at the same time going so slowly every hour is like a week in normal life. I can't believe my friends are all leaving, have all left. I can't believe I fell in love, had my heart broken (sort of) and got over it. I can't believe my best friend here (of convenience) has left. I can't believe I'll be all alone with only 100,000 yen to my name with nothing to do and nowhere to go.
But mostly, I can't believe I won't be waking up every morning at PAL house Tsugaike and walking 10 steps to work every morning and saying hi to Kimu the stoner dorm caretaker guy who takes cool photos and makes weird faces and got in trouble for pumping music over the PA system so makes do with little SFX-playing keyrings.
I can't believe I won't spend every night on Jess's futon on the floor watching the same DVDs over and over, or watching her pack, or sitting in my room with my DS, or someone else's, or my earphones on, drawing or just thinking about stuff. Or chatting to someone for hours. I can't believe I won't get to pretend-lesbian-raburabu my coworkers anymore, that cool people like Shouchan who can yell and laugh in the same sentence and is about as effortlessly manly as I've ever seen a person be; they won't be in my face every day telling me to take the pilaf out of the goddamn microwave omfg it's gone cold again WTF tell me to cook the pasta BEFORE it runs out cuz it takes fucking ten fucking minutes.
Or Yuuchan, my girl-lover who has this tickle-pink cute voice and beautiful flowy wavy hair and a little cleft in her chin and a sugarsweet smile who wears 2 strands of fringe out neatly as the untouchable Charm Point. She's 26, smokes a pack a day, drinks 5 beers before showing it and gambles all her pay away on the pachinko and is INCREDIBLY horny. And still refers to herself in third person. Only in Japan.
And Nabechan, who walks funny and speaks incomprehensible Osaka-ben and happily provides yeti with the use of his car and membership cards on bowling and karaoke nights, who fell in love with a girl I remember most for having a man's voice, shark's face and the 9-day constipation she never hesitated to discuss.
And Darren, who went back already, who wasn't really a friend as much as an open window to throw my thoughts at in english, who kept yelling strange things and dancing spontaneously and had an unpalatably girlishly cute face that infamously won the love of a gay coworker at one summer job. And Veronica, who was random and sexy and gave me my first ever joint, and Elise, who was loud and magnetic and in coming made Tsugaike into some kind of magical hilarious adventure and in leaving turned it back into a shitty parttime excuse to earn a living and snowboard. And Tammy who was Elise's other half only quieter and more thoughtful and ever so down-to-earth. And Maki, who didn't mind using shampoo from a hyakuen store and who offered us all a place to stay in Tokyo that we could never take her up on, because she went scuba diving in Thailand somewhere. And Tori, who was tall and handsome and incredibly perverted and astoundingly true blue aussie bloke all over complete with a talent for knitting. And Juri, and Yukiko, who made my cafe Yeti bearable before it was fun, and Takeo (Kondo ni Kondo san) and Yuuji who killed the fun when they left. And Oozawa who made it hell, but when absent made the times Shouchan or Nabe were in charge extra especially fun. Yes! Still alive! YES! Still waiting for the first paycheck!

After a month and a bit at Nikko Annupuri, in Niseko, Hokkaido.... of sore feet and lusting after the guys at the chinese kitchen and all the happinesses and sadnesses of dorm life, I'm moving.... to Nagano.

I don't really want to, but there was a bit of a dispute between my australian organisers and the hotel bosses, and a catfight later I'll be making a long and complicated trip up to the ex-olympic village place to work in a restauranht-cafe somewhere.

I look forward to serving you, if you're going skiing up there anytime soon!

So far, getting further and further into debt....

But it's an emergency, right?

I think if the internet is more accessible up in Nagano, and town too, I'm gonna be organising commissions. I'm less than poor, and my last $50 (5,000 yen) was stolen by some bastardesse who may just be the sooky neighbour who was struggling so badly working in the Japanese pub downstairs that I promised to wait for her after my night shift one night.... and coming home at 1.30 am, slept into my breakfast shift and ended up getting into the trouble that caused the argument in the first place.

ANYWAY! You wouldn't believe the time I've had. But it's involved just that sort of adorable-looking Japanese guy that you can't believe is older and taller than you. DAMN YOU! Takahashi-kun, Tsukada-san, Kentaro, ALL OF YOU!!!

I thought the whole 40 year old guy and 19 year old girl thing was weird, but they age so SLOWLY the differences are barely visible..!

SO Japan isn't the end of the world... from what I hear there's WAN access in several places, but I don't have a laptop so I won't be on for at least a month or two. Other than that, I don't know how much time I'll have to slack off and check DA, let alone draw anything digitally. ): I'm actually thinking of taking my old tablet, the TINY one, and waiting till I can afford a laptop.

But either way, I'll be off DA for a few months at least.

Pistol shots ring out in the barroom night... enter Patty Valentine from the upper hall. She sees the bartender in a pool of blood, cries out, "My god, they killed them all!"

Here comes the story of the Hurricane, the man the authorities came to blame for somethin' that he never done... put in a prison cell, but one time he coulda been the champion of the world.

Three bodies lyin' there does Patty see, and another man named Bello movin' around mysteriously.
"I didn't do it!" he says, and he throws up his hands. "I was only robbin' the register, I hope you understand!"
"I saw them leavin'," he says and he stops. "One of us had better call up the cops..!"

And so Patty calls the cops, and the arrive on the scene with their red lights flashin' in the hot New Jersey night....

Meanwhile, far away in another part of town Rubin Carter and a couple of friends are drivin' around. Number one contender for the middleweight crown, had no idea what kinda shit was about to go down when a cop pulled him over to the side of the road... just like the time before and the time before that.

In Paterson that's just the way things go... if you're black you might as well not show up on the street 'less you wanna draw the heat.

Alfred Bello had a partner and he had a rap for the cops. Him and Arthur Dexter Bradley were just prowlin' around. He said, "I saw two men runnin' out, they looked like middleweights... they jumped into a white car with out-of-state plates..."

And Miss Patty Valentine just nodded her head...
Cop said, "Wait a minute, boys, this one's not dead!"

So they took him to the infirmary and though this man could hardly see, they told him that he could identify the guilty men. Four in the mornin' and they haul Rubin in, take him to the hospital and they bring him upstairs.

The wounded man looks up through his one dyin' eye, says, "Wha'd you bring him in here for! He ain't the guy!"

Four months later, the ghettos are in flame, Rubin's in South America, fightin' for his name while Arthur Dexter Bradley's still in the robbery game; and so the cops are puttin' the screws to him, lookin' for somebody to blame.

"Remember you said you saw the getaway car?"

"You think you'd like to play ball with the law? Think it might-a been that fighter that you saw runnin' that night? Don't forget that you are white!"

Arthur Dexter Bradley said, "I'm really not sure."
Cops said, "A poor boy like you could use a break. We got you for the motel job and we're talking to your friend Bello... now you don't wanna have to go back to jail, be a nice fellow!"

"You'll be doin' society a favor!"

"That sonofabitch is brave and gettin' braver.

We want to put his ass in stir, we wanna pin this triple murder on him. He ain't no Gentleman Jim."

Rubin could take a man out with just one punch, but he never did like to talk about it all that much.
It's my work, he'd say, and I do it for pay... and when it's over I'd just soon as go on my way up to some paradise...

And ride a horse along a trail. But then they took him to the jailhouse, where they try to turn a man into a mouse.

All of Rubin's cards were marked in advance. The trial was a pig-circus, he never had a chance! The judge made Rubin's witnesses drunkards from the slums, to the white folks who watched he was a revolutionary bum.

And to the black folks he was just a crazy nigger, no one doubted that he pulled the trigger.
And though they could not produce the gun, the D.A. said he was the one who did the deed, and the all-white jury agreed.

Rubin Carter was falsely tried. The crime was Murder One, guess who testified?
Bello and Bradley and they both badly lied, and the newspapers, they all went along for the ride.

How can the life of such a man be in the palm of some fool's hand?
To see him obviously framed...
Couldn't help but make me feel ashamed to live in a land where justice is a game...

Now all the criminals in their coats and their ties are free to drink martinis and watch the sunrise, while Rubin sits like Buddha in a ten-foot cell... an innocent man in a living hell.

So nobody got it? ): what's wrong with you people!

But my friend tells me she was on DA last night and it was at 11,110.... so unless you can do better, she's getting it!

(it might have been 11,101 though... and she gets lots of requests so I don't really wanna give her another one :/)

Anyway.

I got me a daily planner so I can organize the next 2-3 weeks before my trip.
I've got a fair amount of money, but I'll be spending it all on the preliminaries and it looks like more borrowing from mum for living expenses until my first salary. Then, even though there's great things to buy in Japan in the multitudes (like shonen jump, cute stationary, cameras and a laptop) I'll stave off spending the cash until maybe the start of the new year.
That way I'll be able to work out how I can live on my salary and stuff.

Anyway, I should be putting this on turnings, aka my sketchblog (a turning is scrap metal that gets left behind when you weld things. apparently.). I just fixed (read: wrangled with) the layout there and I'm kinda happy with it! If you miss me in the time I'm gone from DA and all other things in Japan, then visit there cuz if news will be anywhere... that will be the place!

I'm still worried about what'll happen with my role in koibito ): I really want to support everybody, even while I'm on a mountain in Hokkaido!

So people have got me reading this manga in the last week or so... but...

OMFFFF I just went on youtube and saw the (raw) first episode! OH MY GOD!!!

Some First Impressions

Some of the voices are really ugh... the production values are preetty average. I really really think Reborn is voiced by the girl who did Haruhara Haruko!!! I swear it! And uh, I think I've heard Tsuna's voice before too BUT I CAN'T THINK WHERE. It sounds a lot like Paku Romi (Ed of Fullmetal Alchemist, among many other boy leads) but without the texture and talent. It's ok, just not Paku Romi good. And Paku Romi is VERY good.

And uh... that's all I can think of. o___o; Except Kyoko's bro has white hair? What happened there, huh? And the same goes for Gokudera (even though he only shows up in cameo). I mean, it might be white in the manga, but in the anime it's WHITE. Jarring.
And speaking of, I kinda look forward to where Gokudera arrives (cuz he's the best! Gokudera for mayor!), because I never read that part. But I dunno if I can handle all the uh... voiceness. >__> And low budget explosions don't seem to be a turnon.

For those who haven't read it, Katekyo Hitman Reborn is published in Shonen Jump and has several times graced the cover. I think I vaguely remember wondering what on earth that pacifier-wearing thang with the funny hat was.....

SHIINA RINGO CLUB...!! *tears of joy*

SO HAPPY!! AND YET... SO... SAD...

I just.... finished Phoenix Wright on DS.

That is such an awesomely cute-and-cuddlingly suspense-filled mind-stretching patience-testing endearing game!!

OH! Watching Phoenix go from being a clueless, semi-comical defense attourney always hanging onto his case by a thread, to this ultimate stoic badass who just stands there when the chief of police verbally bitchslaps him across the room...!
To come back with the most intricately clever, the most.. edgy turnabout in the game! (ok, so it's all about legal technicalities and a hanky... but it was nice to see him cream someone!)
My god, how will I ever get to sleep tonight!

Like the friend who bought this game for me a while ago (and then got hooked playing it and was so crushed to see it go when she was on the last day of the last trial) said... the characters are just so endearing! Maya is so weird yet adorable... Larry is such a goofy guy (how does he keep getting with supermodels anyhow?), Gumshoe is so... so Gumshoe!

And all the stories wind unique, lovable characters together in interesting, intricate plots that you get to unravel with your shrewd detectiveness and your snappy yells of "Objection!!" Which, by the way, you may choose to do yourself into the DS microphone. LOL

And Edgeworth..? Well...
Yeah, he's... kinda cool. And kinda ten times more intelligent, calm and suave than Phoenix. And the game has a weird propensity to revolve around his life... And he wears a suit. And a crevat....

He kinda nearly reminds me of Genya....
But, y'know, worse.

But my REAL love-at-first-sight, my ultimate superduper CRUSH FOR THIS GAME has to be...
THIS PERSON.

She's just... bad. And by that I mean hot. And by that I mean beautiful. Calm, edgy, and... if she's not interested, she'll JUST IGNORE YOU. D: D:

And if you're mean to her, then she'll JUST HAVE YOU ATTACKED BY A PACK OF MAFIOSOS HIDING IN THE BUSHES.

BUT now that I've found out there's an entire series I haven't played yet... I'll grit my teeth and wait for the sequel. >__>
Which my friend will hopefully buy for me. And play before I get it. And... maybe finish this time, so there's no ill feelings between us...

At the moment...

Playing Star Ocean 3 whenever I get the chance and getting through that game (I don't finish enough games) on both my savefiles.
Playing Final Fantasy Tactics Advance whenever I get the chance, and getting through THAT game and giggling at all teh cute chibis and thinking of a fanart scheme to fill that game out, seeing as I plan to be stuck in it a great deal longer.
Finding even MORE time to play SMT Nocturne, Katamari 2, and on that note funding my great quest to mod the PS2 which is not mine, all the better to enjoy old games on.

Drawing all the lead members of the So3 cast in big gooey portraiture and learning how to use my prismacolors in the process.
Writing the concept for a short manga that hopefully should FINGERS CROSSED maybe even get into Heads if I'm really fast with it (which I'm not...)

Sleeping with my cats under the blanket with me, eating lots of tasty junk, reading manga in Borders for hours (preferably with friends) for free and finishing the collective Adventures and Return of Sherlock Holmes every night when I can't get to sleep. I'm nearly finished Hound of the Baskervilles; I'll have to find some more ancient books to read to tire me. Charles Dickens, I'm looking in your direction.

Looking into the possibilities of Heads appearing at this state's big con event this september (I think...) and saving up for the same. Hopefully it'll be done by then. Maybe even Making some Connections and finding out if any local artists can lend some space to this our humble publication.

Lamenting the end of Arrested Development on channel 7.
Wishing I had the time and bandwidth to make AMVs and NOT stressing in the least about uni.

Because if I pass then that's all I could possibly want.

Oh a medal would be nice too.

I like medals.

So the other night... some stuff happened and I ended up running out of my friends' house before they caught sight of my teary face - and crying all the 40 minute walk home.

Now call me bizarre but some part of me has always wanted to walk down the street sobbing her eyes out. It's just.... so dramatic. It's great to know there are things happening in your life that are bigger than acting properly on a public thoroughway.

It's one of those things I've wished I had the opportunity to do, and now I've done it. *pose*

I was right when I said DA was kinda over for me. But my site isn't getting built (trillz is a lazy body), I'm tryina still think of a concept and recruit people to it (there'll be a few of us artsy girls).
I got work doing illustrations (not paid yet though XD) through my jap teacher, and that is cool. And animations, if I'm good and do the storyboards on time. Which I'll try my darndest to do. Oh and Star Ocean 3 has eaten up my life >___>;;; will join a fanclub soon just to prove my devotion.

AND I AM NOW PART OF A VERY VERY COOL DOUJIN GROUP WHICH I AM HONOURED TO TAKE PART IN.

What is it, Trillz? What is this art association which has sucked up all your life for the past few months and stolen you from us!?

Damn Straight. So why do boys always do it?

Actually scratch that cuz I know many who endlessly hit on each other. Guys, that doesn't make them gay, that makes them have a sense of humor! And, conversely, more manly for not being too chicken when someone questions their sexuality in a humorous circumstance!

I just don't get it.

As in I get it and find it just silly. In fact a lot of things about guys are silly. Why is it that females' worlds have to endlessly revolve around them? Because I know a lot more interesting girls I could be daydreaming about....

Money!!

I woke up today thinking I had the day off and should go spend some money at this ubercool factory outlet place and then realised... I need to save it all to pay for my new compie. So scratch that . I'm no designer label geek ($70 on a TOP? You have GOT to be joking!) but I do get super self-conscious about my wardrobe sometimes, which means I need to buy new stuff to fill it up.

But right now I'm saving for a (very expensive) new computer which I need this term at uni actually, so it all has to go towards that compie. <___< So staring at my bank account online and figuring out what I'd need this week, I sent a bunch over to my mum who holds the computer fund. <___<;;; be proud of me.

because my mum rox that way. Yeah my mum is a nettie. She gets 50% of the payment to the hosters for bringing them a client, too.

I don't have anything to put on it. Why is that? Um...
Ok, to be perfectly honest... I'm really, REALLY bad at building a website for myself. For other people and purposes I manage but... =__= it's just not working out for me.

PLEASE if anyone has some layout spare lying around that I could use for free (or like, y'know, pay for with art?) please drop a line here. I really want to get something up =__= like, I know once I start and have something to work with, then I'll edit it to my heart's content until it works. I just... never get to that stage. >__>;;

Ok, um. In other news.

CATS!!!

You heard me... cats PLURAL! There are two now, Shiina and Genya (guess for who they were named?) who are an adorable bunch. Genya is cuddly and loves everybody, but Shiina loves only ME!!!

They are delightful. Once I get a nice photo of them (god they grow so fast) I'll show off.

And, I'm going to a formal next week! *girlygiggle* My bro needed a partner for his year 12 formal (prom in some countries) so mum forked out $550 for a lovely dress for me and my hair and nails and stuff are being done - all so I can accompany him!
It's a shame his best friend isn't going because he'd look incredibly cute in a suit. But my bro looks incredibly handsome in one too. *family pride* He is an incredibly handsome young man, if I do say so myself.

And that about wraps it up. My classes are just about to tip into rediculously demanding, I'm still living in the guest room while we wait for the carpet people to do their thang, and still saving for a computer that can handle uni work - it's all in flux!

I haven't really drawn much, and I feel kinda bad sometimes for it but, what can you do. If you really miss my art really, then drop by msn on the weekends and ask me for a request. I got hours to waste on the weekends

they're sacred free time for me.

Anyway.

I kinda miss hanging out here :/ but I don't need another hours-wasting hobby. Computers are soul-sucking fiends!!

ps. My mouse has been broken for a month (it's the bit where it plugs in that's busted) and so I've been using my ginormous tablet as a mouse. I recommend it, it really gets you using that tablet you thought you really needed.

Shiina the kitten, who is now just on 9 weeks old (1 1/2 of them lived at this house) is keeping my hands full. What hands I have free between work, which is copious and prosperous, and uni, which is commuting for miles. And I've come down with an awful virus. Which sucks. because for a whole entire week I've been hugging my sick sister with no consequences... and now, on a baking hot 36-degree day it decides to rear its ugly head and dig its claws in.

Speaking of, Shiina still likes to climb one's leg. Only now that she's getting bigger and heavier the claws have to dig in a lot harder... hahaha... we all have battlescars!

Anyway. I just can't be bothered with DA lately... all the petty badness of the administrative processes is like.. really defeating my urge of coming on here. I'm gonna talk to my mum about hosting at $70 AU per year, which is cool... and yeah. D: Move out, I guess. I mean... it's nice here but... I don't seem to have the energy anymore?
Well, right now I don't have the energy to be sitting up either. D: What I wouldn't give for a laptop....
