Here she is, our beautiful baby girl. A short entry today to let you all know she has arrived (a week old today !) and that all is well. She looks just like her Daddy and sleeps so well. Mummy is getting lots of sleep between feedings and our little Erica is so good natured. Lindsay is a proud big sister and we are looking forward to our new adventure as a family of four.

The baby is moving downwards - I've noticed it's a bit easier to breathe these days and I don't suffer such bad indigestion. Everything is set to go, so as soon as Lindsay's graduation ceremony is over (June 17th), the baby is free to come as far as we're concerned !

In keeping with our theme, I want to take some creative photographs of Teddy Bears to print and frame in the baby's room. If any one has any ideas, or links to other deviations on dA that I can imitate, please let me know !

On another note, my dear brother is now taking commissions to help fund his next trip home for the holidays. Check out his page if you're interested !
I think I'll get Lindsay to open a lemonade & doggie biscuit stand this weekend and if this humid hot weather keeps up, we'll be able to afford to fly them home on a Concorde !

No evidence left that it was once my beautiful office that Geoff had so lovingly painted for me in bold Cranberry and Summer Squash almost 2 years ago.

Prenatal classes are underway. It's a good thing we signed up because things have changed SO much since Lindsay was born almost 12 years ago. It's a lot of fun though and Geoff and I are now known as the 'oldest couple' in our class ! Everyone thinks we are brave for doing this at our age (they are saying brave to be polite, but we know they think we are crazy).

I promised a Toby update. He's back to normal again. He's eating like there's no tomorrow and although we never dissected the litter box contents for the remains of the eaten dental floss, we're pretty sure it's worked its way out of him. OK, enough about that (ewwww!!).

That's it on my end. I just want to say that we here are thinking of those in China and Burma who have lost their homes and loved ones. We are so fortunate for all that we have and must never take it for granted. Our prayers go out to all who have been affected by these catastrophic events.

Here we are already....mid May and I'm 34 weeks pregnant.
Baby is due end of June and we are getting things ready for his or her arrival. My office is being converted into a baby's room. Geoff started to put the primer up and it was really strange watching him cover up the recently painted cranberry and summer squash walls that he so lovingly had painted for me to make my office a nicer place to be.
The new colour will be a light beige & white and the decor is natural wood with a Teddy Bear print border ! I can't wait to see it all done.

We have finally picked out a couple of names (boy and girl) but we'll announce the name when baby comes.
Things are going well health wise. We had concerns about my blood pressure, as I had pre-eclampsia 11 years ago with Lindsay....but so far so good. I feel very large and I'm getting quite uncomfortable especially at night. Still, it's a wonderful feeling to know there is a life growing inside me - a little baby made up of Geoff and I. The most important gift that God can give us. I think of how lucky I have been to have Lindsay as a daughter and am grateful for the opportunity to do it all over again.

It's scary sometimes to think of the sleepless nights, colic, terrible twos, countless fevers, colds and viruses, losing my independance.....can I handle all this again at 42 ???
Yes I can. With Geoff and Lindsay at my side, and the strength that God will give us...we can do this.

On another note....Toby is sick. . On Friday night he got into the bathroom garbage can. We found the contents all over the floor. By Saturday he started vomiting eveywhere, and stopped eating completely. We hoped that he'd gotten whatever he'd eaten, out of his system but by Monday he was just weak and dehydrated. I took him to the vet. They opened his mouth and found the end of a length of dental floss that he must have found and chewed up. They sedated him but were only able to remove a couple of inches (afraid that by tugging, it would tear his small intestine).
We brought him home with a tube of laxative, a syringe and soft cat food. I've been force feeding him 3 times a day and we hope that this will carry the floss through his system to pass naturally. If it doesn't work, he'll need surgery to remove it.

So far so good - his strength seems to be coming back and he is being very cooperative with the feedings. I'm sure he will be fine.

Well that's it from my end for now. I'll try to keep you posted over the next few weeks.

I feel so blessed to have so many loving friends and the best family anyone could wish for. We celebrated Christmas at our home. Surrounded by our parents, my brother, his wife and my gorgeous neice.....Lindsay, Geoff and I hosted another Christmas. I suppose I'll have to update my profile, as I turned 42 on Christmas day (I share Jesus' birthday !!). As usual I was spoiled by all (not complaining ).

Well I do have some more news to share. I've already told you that Geoff and I are getting married in February. The news I've been saving is now ready to share. I am 14 weeks pregnant and the baby is due at the end of June. I wanted to wait until I was further along to let you know, since I am over 40 and the risks are higher. We are so excited about the new addition to our family. I have been feeling very tired and nauseaus but as I am entering my second trimester, the nausea has subsided and I am starting to feel more energetic during the day.

We don't want to know the sex of the baby until he or she is born...there are so few surprises in this world, we want to wait and see !! Lindsay will be a big sister at last and although she wasn't as excited as us, she is starting to look forward to meeting her new sibling.

I hope that the new year brings you all love, happiness and good health. Keep up with your creative past-times and keep on sharing with your friends at dA.

First of all, I'd like to share my happy news. Geoff and I are getting married !!
We've been talking about it for a little while and he recently proposed to me while I was opening a box of frozen pizzas in the kitchen . That afternoon, we jumped in the car, drove to the jeweler and picked out an engagement ring. Last night we picked it up and Geoff put it on my finger.
I'm so thrilled and wanted to share this with you. We are thinking of having a small wedding some time in February - maybe around Valentine's' Day !

The second peice of news is that we have adopted a new kitten - Toby .
He is quite a handful but we love him to bits. He purrs like a Harley Davidson and when he's not tearing around the house, he's snuggled up on one of us fast asleep.
Sandy has been very accepting of this new addition and I think she finds him quite amusing.

We still really miss our Bootsy-Boo who passed away last June, but we have a lovely framed photo of her on the wall to look at every day.

We sure love our cats !

I've been absent for most of the summer and came back to find many comments and 's waiting for me. Thank you to all who visited my page. I am looking forward to catching up on each of you, as I'm sure you have been busy all summer posting your images and art.
I've missed being on dA and have just renewed my subscription which had expired.

Some time in June I blinked and it became October. The summer was filled with fun. Lindsay and I visited my brother, his wife and my dear neice Jenny, in Halifax. What a great visit we had and what a joy it was to meet and hold little Jenny.
In August, Geoff, Lindsay and I spent a week in Maine (Ogunquit - our favourite spot) and the weather was perfect.
Now the leaves are now turning beautiful shades of green, yellow, orange and red and our backyard is covered with them as they fall to the ground . This is my favourite time of year. Still warm and sunny - not too hot or cold.

Today is Thanksgiving (at least it is in Canada) and is a day to remember all we are grateful for. I am thankful for family, friends, my wonderful little home and all the rest that God has given me.

Good to be back !

The birth of Jennifer

My beloved brother and his wife welcomed the arrival of their beautiful daughter on June 25th (Tuesday !!). Mom and baby are doing well (poor Mommy endured 20+ hours of labor) and little Jenny is home now with her parents. (My baby brother is a Daddy - YIKES !!).

We are all so proud and excited and I wanted to share the news with my dA friends. !

I am loving every minute I can spend in my garden - listening to and watching the many birds, squirrels and chipmunks that visit my feeders, and smelling the blossoms on the tree outside my backdoor. The flowers are doing well this year and I am diligently weeding out the beds to keep it looking pretty.

On Friday afternoon, Geoff and I took Boots to the vet for the last time. Her condition had worsened as we had expected. She was so very weak and was barely eating at all. She spent her last couple of days sleeping on the floor next to the plant (despite the variety of soft beds, blankets, carpets etc...that I had left around the room for her). When she wasn't on the floor, she was cradled in my arms like a new born baby. She cried out (in pain ?) when she would try to use her litter box and bless her - she kept going back to the basement to go, even though I had one set up for her in the living room. She would cry at the stairs and wait for me to carry her down. When she finished, she would cry to be carried back up stairs .
Finally on Friday as she lay in my arms, her eyes in and out of focus, I realized the end was near. Geoff came home early from work (1/2 day Fridays now during the summer) and we made the difficult decision to end her misery.
We took her in and the staff at the clinic were wonderful to us. We both held her and stroked her until her last breath. We brought her home and when Lindsay came home from school, we buried Boots under the lilac tree as we had planned.

Geoff is away on a business trip (left last night) and Lindsay is at her Dad's. The house feels strange and empty, although my Mother's birds (who are here while my parents are away) are chirping away and Sandy is purring near by (this is all very confusing to her). I've been cleaning the house, but decided to write this journal entry while I take a break.

We'll miss our Bootsy-Boo. She was a wonderful and beautiful little creature. When Geoff came into our lives, Lindsay and I were doubly blessed with his cat.

Thank you to all my dA friends who have offered such kind words and prayers (especially you Karen and my dear brother Rich). Both of them and most of you, know very well what is like to lose a cat (or dog, horse or any pet). We're grateful to have her for a few more cuddles. Thanks again. Helen xoxoxo


5/28/07 Our little cat Boots is in the animal hospital tonight. Not long after recovering from an infection in her intestine recently, she took a bad turn and has been losing weight steadily over the past 2 weeks. She has been off her food for a while and we've been trying different kinds, but finally we decided to take her in since she has been too weak to even climb the stairs.
She has been on an IV and feeding tube all day and will be for at least another 24 hours. After a number of tests, the vet told us that she is anemic and the x-rays are inconclusive. He suspects there may be a mass in her stomach and that exploratory surgery may be required. The problem is that Boots is 13 years old and in her current state - putting her under the anesthesia may be risky. We'll know some time tomorrow what is recommended and we will try to make the best decision for Boots.

Our other cat Sandy seems to be wandering around the house looking for her friend. Although they do not always get along, they are good company for each other at times.

The whole thing breaks my heart .She is a beautiful animal and if you could see her now - all of 4 lbs with a little pale nose - you wouldn't recognize her as the same cat in these pictures - taken just a couple of months ago. We hope to have Bootsy-Boo home with us very soon.

Time to change the journal. Looking at all those yummy pictures of candy was taking away any last ounce of self-control I had left. I'm going to try to find some motivation from within and get back on my exercise program and start eating right again. Like I mentioned to recently, I generally lose 15lbs every year, and spend the next 6 months putting it back on. She joined a health club and has been eating right, so it's high time I did the same.

I look at my dA ID
and I want to look like that again!! I've put on 15lbs since then (that was last July) . I'm so depressed. Nothing fits me. It's not that hard to do if I put my mind to it.

I need to eat more of these
and cut out this
and this although I don't think pencils are too fattening !

I started the day with a banana protein shake instead of my usual 3 cups of coffee (with cream) with a bagel and cheese ( OMG DO I LOVE CHEESE ) I'm going to take a 30 minute walk before I start my work day each morning (starting right now after I finish this journal).

It's 3:15pm and it's been snowing since some time in the wee early hours of the morning. Expecting at least a foot of the white stuff. No school today. First "snow day" of the year and of all days, it couldn't have come at a worst time for my daughter.

Today was "Winter Carnival" at her school and it was cancelled because of the storm. No reschedule date either. That's it !
I remember as a kid. If there was a huge snow storm, we'd listen intensely waiting for our school board closure to be announced. As soon as we'd hear ours...YIPPEEEEEE !!! The fun began.

My poor daughter, was looking forward to a day of activities with her friends, and when I told her "sorry Honey, no school", I watched two big fat tears roll down her little face . It broke my heart.

The new job is going great so far. I can't believe how lucky I am to be settled again, this time with a company that is financially sound and very customer oriented.

Well....off to start shovelling now. I think I'll be out there for quite a while judging by how high it's piling up. I'd take a pic to show you, but I lent my camera to my Dad for a couple of days.

This is for all my friends and loved ones who have been helping me get through this past week.


I have been showered with support - phone calls and emails from people who care and want to help.
I am working on a deal now with a new company and if it works out, I will be able to maintain my home office, and start working for myself. The fun part now, is thinking up a business name under which I will be working.

Things are looking up and hopefully this will all be worked out by next week so I can jump back in where I left off.

I joined today. What a feel good place to go. I love balloons. I felt a bit deflated earlier this week and now I feel much better. Looking at cheery and colorful balloon pictures helped.

A rough start to the week. Yesterday, I was layed off after 6 years at the same company. I was semi-prepared mentally, and had been putting some money aside (just in case) but it still puts your guts into knots when the VP of Sales calls you and starts the conversation with "Do you have a minute ? I'm afraid this isn't going to be a very pleasant conversation". He was nice about it and said it was all about numbers, and not about my performance. I'm the 5th sales person to be layed off in the past year or so.
Rumor has it that the company isn't going to last another 2 months - but was still hard to wake up this morning without a purpose, and wonder where the money is going to be coming in from in the weeks to come.
Still, I can go to bed at night and know that I gave it my best. My customers have been supportive and I have a lot of great contacts.
Time to move on....close this book and start a new chapter. Geoff says we're fine and I know we are/will be. Got something in the works so hopefully I'll be back up and running soon.

God has blessed me with a wonderful family, and friends.

Februrary 14th is here - and so is a whole lot of snow !
20-40cm's is forecasted to fall over the next 24 hours. That should be lots of fun to shovel tonight .
A good night to be snuggling by the fire with nowhere to go.

I made some chocolate brownies and cut them into heart shapes. Iced them pink. They may not look so pretty but they taste pretty good !!!
My hubby is taking me out for dinner tonight. At least I THINK we're going out. All he said is dinner is "taken care of" which means I don't have to cook. I'm very fortunate to have someone special who loves me.

I don't think I ever had a school dance before 8th grade. My hubby going to DJ it and I promised to help out and bring along my camera. It should be fun ! Luckily she's not yet at the age where it's not cool to have her parents around.

I joined today. I hope to learn a lot from the other members. I've already seen some pretty impressive images. It's a great way to get exposure (pun intended) while sharing tips and ideas at the same time.

They are well known to dA judging by the amount of activity on their pages. I can clearly see why. These people have so much talent ! I'm envious but this inspires me to work hard to perfect my craft.

"Werol" is a gifted photographer. I went through the gallery and saw some photography that I could only dream of imitating.
In particular, I liked this one. - such beautiful eyes! Very popular with a lot of people. There is a nice variety of subject matter to view, so please see the gallery for yourself. You'll be impressed if you haven't come across this artist before.

"Sonia14" - unbelievable the talent that this girl possesses. Give her a piece of paper and some pencils and she will create a masterpiece. This one of Diane Kruger is like looking at a photograph. Is it possible this artist is only 16 ? She will go far with her talent and I hope that she continues to share her drawings with us for a long time. Great job !!

"Pyromaniac". This artist is very familiar to a lot of you as he has been commissioned many times and has created some lovely work. I find his pieces fresh with a unique style all of his own. I can see that he's very busy and with a talent like his - there is no wonder. Please check out his gallery if you have not already done so and you will like what you see. Again, pens,pencils, some paper and a masterpiece is born in the right hands. It's a God-given talent that most of us wish we had !! Here is one example of many of his creations.

First I'd like to feature my dear brother A.K.A. Gorpo (a professional animator - could there be a job more fun than that ??)
I remember when he was only 3 and drawing pictures of The Pink Panther and Fred Flinstone everywhere. Now 30+ years later I get to see his name in the credits of a favorite kids show or two. I'm so proud of him and he is my daughter's hero.
His gallery contains some pretty funny stuff. See...he's into the British Sci-Fi series Dr. Who. For those who don't know, The TARDIS is the doctor's method of transportation through time and space. It's actually a blue English police box. Rich had some fun with Photoshop and this one here is my favorite.

You can find some of his drawings on his gallery also. One of my favorites is in a frame I have at home. It's a cell drawing of my daughter and I as mermaids !

Secondly - Hats off to NikonCha for her fabulous hockey shots ! This one in particular is my favorite.
I can't wait to show it to my B.F. - a goalie himself, in a local "beer league" and a big fan of Marty Brodeur. He works in the hockey industry and we are Habs fans. We eat, breathe and live hockey around here. Well, we try not to breathe too much in the furnace room, because that's where he dries out his gear - YUCK.
This artist's talents are not restricted to sports. She has captured some beautful shots of flowers that you have to see for yourself.

I will be watching her work and trying to pick up some pointers to help improve my own photography. One thing I've learned from her photographs and conversation threads, is that I may need to invest in a lens with F2.8 option. Now to find the money.......

Anyway, I digress.
