I am having a blast reading these. They are so cool.

There is one article, "Can Huge New Atom Guns Shoot Out Biggest Secrets?" by Alden P. Armagnae, that suggests an experiment that reminds me quite a lot of the LHC. Here is my favorite quote from the article: "The energy that these machines impart to their projectiles is measured in electron volts. The synchro-cyclotron at the University of California, biggest atom gun in the world today [1948], has a power of 200,000,000 electron volts." I don't understand all of that, but the words "synchro-cyclotron" make me smile.

The article includes a large illustration of what appears to be a mini LHC, called "The Mighty Bevatron." Marked off are devices that I recognize from LHC news stuff- magnets, vacuum pumps, etc. It goes on to show schematics that remind me even more of what I know of the LHC. At the time, building such a machine was estimated to cost $15,000,000 US. I calculate that in current money, it would be closer to $130,000,000 US. The article finishes by saying, "The need for the knowledge [the particle accelerator] should yield is so urgent that scientists are confident that the funds will be forthcoming."

A man keeps a bug collection until he finds a glow worm in a graveyard and takes it home. His bugs begin to disappear one by one from his collection. His wife, ever disapproving of a habit she considers gross, says, “good” but it become increasingly obvious when she starts to glow that she isn't quite herself anymore.

A shepherd inherits money from a relative he didn't know existed and moves to his relative's estate, taking his sheep with him. His sheep begin to show signs of sickness. When one turns on him and bites him, he comes to believe they are possessed by some feral spirit.

A wet spot on the old castle wall seems to change shape, offering a different message or picture every day to the young woman who lives there. Clearly a sentient entity, it moves all around her home (following her) and befriending her. After a while, the spot leaves the wall altogether and is consumed by the wonders of having a physical form.

While traveling through a heavily wooded forest, a group of fearless young people learn about hidebehinds the hard way. Unfortunately, the only way to get someone back once they've been taken is to have a conversation with one of the monsters- a task which falls to the group's only youngest and only remaining member.

A child has several conversations with a person she doesn't realize to be the infamous mothman. While the child's ignorance would normally get her killed, the mothman convinces her to work for/with him by bringing him raw meat and by being his lookout as he resides in her family's deserted barn.

For those who don't know because they're LAME- Alive in Jo'berg is a six minute fake documentary about aliens stranded on Earth in Johannesburg, South Africa. The aliens are subject to their own special apartheid and are blamed for many of society's problems like increased murder rates. The documentary follows some police officers and listens to some specialists talk. The whole thing is filmed in Johannesburg. You can watch the whole six minute thing here: [link]

D9 expands on the idea and uses the documentary format for much of the movie with thematic elements in between. It focused on a few main characters- one human and one an alien (called "Prawns" in the movie because they look like crustaceans). The human has a normal name (Wikas Von de Merwe, which is Afrikaans I believe) and the alien is called Christopher Johnson presumably because its name is unpronounceable. The alien language seems to be a combination of "a" "o" "oo" and clicks and glottal stops. Good movie. Good movie.

I've been on an alien drawing kick after watching D9- Jo'berg never shows enough of the aliens to get a good idea what they look like. I'm thoroughly enjoying myself.

I've been working in InDesign CS4 to make the book, which also contains all my little info articles on scythe hounds.
I'm making a character sheet that isn't an excell doc as well. There are also tables that will be made and inserted into the InDesign doc. I've got all the info, now I just need to compile it into one master file. Sigh.
As always, I love ideas and feedback. I'm willing to add pretty much anything to the game, especially if its one of y'alls awesome ideas.

BACK TO THE BEGINNING OF THE PROJECT:
[05-05, afternoon]~Arachnakid did something today. She suggested playing D&D with scythe hounds.
(We were eating lunch and I was writing out phenotypes of scythe hounds in tables so I could calculate some population percentages blah blah blah)

Because of her suggestion and my compulsive nature, I am in the process of designing a tabletop RPG for scythe hounds. It's inspired by the d20 system, but with d6s and simpler numbers. There are more variables at the beginning than in the middle, so I need to find a way to inject some crazy stuff into the mid-levels.

Opening stat values are determined by d6 rolls, PSE colors, and scythe shapes. Later values are set by "talents" (my version of feats). I can't really inject items into the situation, so how can I add little things the players can change around when they're at level five or so? Thoughts por flavor.

PS. There are a lot of numbers. A lot of them. And sweet jesus the tables. You should see the excell documents I'm using to keep everything straight. I'm still not sure I understand what I'm doing.

If you could comment and give some ideas, it would be much appreciated. I especially need monsters, both good and evil, of any shape and size.

At the point of the stories, it's been several centuries since the fight, and people can only speculate as to what caused the scythe hounds to suddenly come to Earth (and it's fair to guess that some humans went to the scythe hound world).
The question that I've been asking myself is, how can I come up with a canon setting for the scythe hound tabletop rpg (SHTTRPG would have been the name, but it looks too much like SHITRPG)?
I've got it. A tad cliche, I fear, but good enough.
The setting of the RPG will be the setting of the stories, but with more flora and fauna additions from other worlds that have been summoned much the way that the scythe hounds were summoned to earth. At this point Oddy will be the equivalent of a sixty year old human, and Ghost will be the equivalent of an eighty year old. Junalli and her age-mates will be adults.
I still need monsters and plants.

Classes, "prestige classes", characters, and basic guides have been written. New monsters have been made, and a few call-beasts have stats now, too.
I'm going to make items that will have relevance- earrings and other piercings (because scythe hounds love to wear iron), tattoos, ritual scarring, etc. that will be available at higher levels. I'm not sure how to work in armor (scythe hounds do have armor, they just rarely use it and they don't really carry things)
Classes: Red, Orange, Gold, Green, Blue, Violet. There are six hounds in the team (Kellen [No one yet], Fairze [Friend of mine], Marrin [Friend of mine], Zaecera [me], Roske [friend of mine], and Nox [:devarachnakid] in that order).
"Prestige Classes" thus far: Soldier, Sentinel, Doctor, Spy.
You may have noticed, as I mentioned, that I've written mini guides. These sort of things will probably make up the bulk of the SH: OW Rulebook, which is in the works. I'm illustrating it with digital art and traditional art (watercolors) using the test team as exemplars in the pictures.
Hopefully things will be done by next year, but that's being generous.

My friend collects animal bones and is into taxidermy. There were four people in the car. We were driving along one Monday (a very hot day) and we passed a mint condition coyote corpse. My friend freaks out and nearly leaps out the window to collect the body. To be honest I wanted to join him.
"No," our driver says, "We're going to Lowes and I won't have the coyote rotting in the warm back of my van."
The decision is met with protests, but we go to Lowes anyway. Everyone really wants to get back to the coyote. We pick up the 3mil 40 gallon trash bags on the way out and drive back the way we came. Fortunately for everyone involved, the corpse is still there. My friend bales and grabs the thing my the neck and carries it over. He bags it and we drive home. It didn't smell bad at all. Like wet dog. There's no external damage, so my friend thinks the coyote died of internal hemorrhaging or heart failure as a result of being hit by a car. He intends to perform a necropsy after he skins it.
It's a girl coyote and we call her Mrs. Fuzzles. She's mostly grey and is smaller than either of my dogs. I can't wait to see the taxidermied version.

I like Zeerase as a person. As a character, I have problems with her.
I HATE Larath as a person. When I write for him, I frequently want to reach into the story and smack him. As a character, he's a goldmine.
Lily is a bit of both.

I didn't choose the scythe hounds because there are too many to have to answer the questions.
