I'm falling in love with DM all over again. I can't believe I was only 12 when I first stumbled across the White Wonder on Nickelodeon back in 1984. The first episode I ever saw was the Four Tasks of Danger Mouse, and from that moment on I was hooked.

Now I'm enjoying recapturing those moments of youth. One of my friends has often said shows like this, (for her it was Transformers) were like revisiting old friends. Indeed this was one of the cartoons that got me into cartooning. A few years later it would be the Transformers in 1986.

I remember sitting in front of the TV with a drawing tablet of typing paper and clipboard, scribbling my own character Lori. Her name was Lorraine Trial back then, and there was no sign of some of her current trappings. The long hours I spent fantasizing storylines that never got written but made it into dozens of little drawings...

My take on OCs in Danger Mouse:
Since most of the characters in Danger Mouse are male, the only females listed are Fifi, who we dont' see on camera, Mrs. Boathook, and Penfold's Aunt, and one or 2 minor characters. Since I am a romantic at heart I couldn't help creating OCs for some of the other characters, or my own OCs that were female. I kept Danger Mouse and Fifi together, but gave Fifi a personality and a role that would make her more then just a one dimensional mystery. Such as the fact that Danger Mouse likes opera, I made her an opera singer turned pop star, which would make sense where he'd meet her. Since he's into haute couture, she's the sort of woman I can imagine him paired with. As for Penfold, my OC Bagel was a no brainer since she's a hamster and she's about his age too. Lori, I may have paired with Danger Mouse, but I wanted to have her with someone else, namely Agent 57, and I ended up with an OC love interest for her named Saul Stann.

I digress. For the interests of those who like Danger Mouse fanfiction, I am listing the stories I've posted on DA

Fiction 1-Two of the Best and Two of the Worst:
Summary: Dangermouse's girlfriend Fifi had a cousin, Agent M6, who entered the secret service in America. Now what bone does M6 have to pick with DM when she unwittingly ends up rescuing him? It was about 1984 when I started watching the awesome show, and I was enamored by all things british. Naturally I came up with my own OC's to join DM on his adventures.

Sadly I didn't write down many of the stories, but I did draw many pictures. So I was able to remember most of the stories and write them into a fanfiction in 2003. I joined a website called the DM Club and met some fellow enthusiasts.

Unfortunately I never finished my latest DM fanfiction because I got swept away by DBZ fervor and other projects. However I felt compelled to start posting the Dangermouse stories I have written here as a place to showcase them in case people wish to read them. They're written a bit tongue in cheek like the series is, and I tried to capture a bit of the flavor.

I will post biographies of my oc's Lori Lamoure M6, American agent and her assistant Bagel Noname Zingerwitz, a female hamster. Note that while Lori isn't romantically involved with Dangermouse in the stories, there are some fun relationships that develop. Particuarly with Bagel and Penfold. But to know more you'll have to check out the stories.

I've posted 2 of the best and worst so far, and will post the second and third in the coming days. I'm editing lightly for grammar so hopefully the stories will flow without too many typos.

Character biographies:
Lori M6 [link]
Bagel [link]
Villans Cam-elion Rex [link]

I already know the answer to this, and it's just something to keep my mind on after a tense situation has become FAR less tense and I need some levity in my life.

Why call her 'mary sue' or 'gary stu'. I swear, I see the same terminology for the SAME &#039erfect characters' that people love to hate and I am starting to get sick of the label.

Why not call them Mary Janes, or Polly Wannabee? All because some in joke in Trek Fandom has provided a catchy label for a phenomenon in fanfiction that people love to argue about.

One thing I think would be fun is to think of a different label then the tired and overused 'mary sue'. Problem is, that almost everyone in a 'fandom' is familiar with the term or is forced to become familiar with the term. Any attempts to change the term would result in mass confusion. As if people aren't already confused enough why people should even worry about MS or the like.

Mary Sue is misdefined, ambiguous and a subject that divides fans along many lines of 'we hate mary sue' or 'leave my mary sue alone' or 'MY OC IS NOT A MARY SUE!!!" Yet those remotely familiar with the term loosely can agree on SOME common characteristics of what a 'Mary Sue' is and isn't.

The problem is when the already loose definition is enlarged to include all OC's, all OFCS, and self inserts. First we have those people that just HATE any fanfiction period, so the discussion is moot. They'd rather the person think up their own characters and their own plot ideas instead of write using other people's toys. I see them as the 'anti fanficers'.

Then there are those who think fanfiction should include NO non cannon charcters period. Lord or gods forbid anyone include an original or invented character when there is enough that 'cannon' provides. Perhaps they can be refered to as 'cannon chars onliers'.

Another degree away we have those who think original characters are fine as long as they don't get the main emphasis of the fanfiction. Any notion of an original character having any involvement that resembles romance with a cannon character, especially a major character MUST be a Mary Sue or Gary Stu in their opinion. This category of person could be known as "No OC's with Cannons please!"

One must not confuse these people with those that prefer cannon couples over couples that are 'non cannon'. Cannon couple supporters don't necessarily hate ocs/canon. Rather they prefer the cannon couples remain unbroken. Unpaired cannon chars could be open for pairings with Ocs perhaps in their opinion.

But I digress. Another category of fans are fine with OCs as long as they pass the 'Mary Sue' litmus test. There are many of these out there composed by various fans/websites. I don't think there is a universal one, but there are the more popular ones cited by 'Mary Sue eliminators' or anti Mary Sueists. Here are fans who can be convinced that including self inserts and OC's can be a good and positive addition to a fanfic.

Yet another category of fans are fine with any OCs and don't seem to care much whether they pass a "Mary Sue litmus test'. They are quite content to read the story and dismiss or accept the OC on their own terms without offering judgement on the 'Sueist' or "nonsuist' tendencies.

With all these labels flying around, I tend to get dizzy and weary of the terminology. Unfortunately for me, Mary Sue is a firmly entrenched term with most fans knowing what it should or should not mean. I suppose if I use any other term I'd have to try and explain it. Nevertheless there ARE fans who have never heard of a "Mary Sue" or they say, "What is a Mary Sue and why should I care?"

Usually it IS an issue with a new writer entering a fandom and posting their first fanfiction. For their own protection they should be briefed on Mary Sue and its inherent dangers and lack therof. The other person most concerned with Mary Sue is usually the frank and honest reviewer who thinks its their duty to leave concrit and 'encourage' a writer to steer away from Sueist tendencies. Lastly there are those Sue haters that feel it's their right and privelege to flame the fanfic authors with Suist qualities. Leaving comments such as "LOLZ you SUCK" or "Stop writing crapfic," or "Quit while you're ahead loser and do us a favor and stop writing such shite."

Right now I am leaning towards the category of "I know who Mary Sue is and I frankly don't give a flying fig". Namely because I amd WELL aware of the pitfalls of Suefics and misdiagnosis of OC's. Frankly and ultimately it's up to the reader and author to decide if Mary Sue content is an issue or not.

It's like looking for the Holy Grail.

My eternally crappy handwriting held me back from writing. No matter WHAT I did, I couldn't write legibly to save my life. Thank God the computer came along and I broke free of the prison of shitty handwriting. Now I don't feel inadequate. I have a voice, and people dont' look at the handwriting they see what I can produce.

I think that's the same thing with the computer. It can free me from a career of half sketchy messy looking art. That's not what people want. They want clean and precise. I can't do it on my own. That's one of the whole reasons I got the tablet in the first place. Maybe it's cheating, but it's my only hope at this point.

Any suggestions and help would be welcome. As always part of being an artist is accepting constructive criticism. If I can't do that, then I have no business calling myself an artist.

Oh well, Rome wasn't built in a day.

I'm getting ready to sing in an 'evensong' at my local church. Basically it's an evening service of choral music. It's the 50th anniversary of the 'sanctuary' part of the church. It's followed by a celebratory dinner.

This in addition to helping my family host my aunt's 70th bday party! It was a busy weekend. Not to mention grading a stack of Global Warming papers...

Granted when I'm done with all this I need some serious drawing time!!! But I love the singing and the energy being around family/people I know...

Though it can be exhausting!!!!

I'm SO glad the semester's winding down. I've had very little creative energy these past few days, but it's slowly coming back. All I've managed to do original art wise is a half a$$ed or would that be half winged sketch of Elizabeth 1... :sigh:

I might end up posting it later tonite!

My thanks to those who have friended me so far!

Today on campus all KINDS of things were going on:

1. Earth Day celebration. Face painting booths, crafts, seminiars, etc.
2. Silence Day for Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual alliance group. Wearing quote stickers that showed accounts of people persecuted for their lifestyles and then keeping quiet till five. Then meeting to pop black balloons to 'break the silence'.
3. Spring Dance review: this was later on, but I didn't get to go.
4. Senior Art Gallery: Since I have one art senior in my class for Environmental Science I went to support her. She's a great student and a really neat artist.

This mudkip thing was funny for the first 10 seconds and now it's just plain old...

Seems april fools jokes aren't funny unless the following happens:

1. Someone cackles gleefully rubbing their hands together
2. Someone runs in circles screaming how 'it's awful and terrible and no fair'
3. The people who think the joke is funny can't get why the person in number 2 can't lighten up and take a joke
4. People who don't give a care one way or the other think that the people in 1, 2, and 3 should find another hobby.
5. People who chuckle once and say how lame the whole thing is and are glad it's just once a year.
6. People who plan a fitting april fool's revenge prank.

Hello there!

This account is for my original work! For fan art and fiction go to

Some may ask why the separate account? Good question. I pretty much want to showcase some of my other work separate from my DBZ art. I've got a lot of DBZ related art and fanfiction, and rather then expect someone to wade through a bunch and find it, I figured this was easier.

Also some of my other fandom artwork may appear here, such as my Mummies Alive, KISS, and Gargoyles artwork. One can think of this as an 'archive' of pre DBZ material, and original stuff.

Thank you for watching this account! I appreciate it!
