And I got to wondering - why do you use your operating system?
Have a think about it, why do you stay with whatever you use?

If possible, do tell me (In this journal) - I'd love to see what people say about their choice in operating system.

As some of you will know, I'm a Linux (Ubuntu) user, so here's why I use Linux (My comment in the above article):

IÂve been programming for a few years now, and at Uni I program in Fedora.

Having used Fedora, I just got used to it - it was faster than windows, easier to use, and more ÂfriendlyÂ overall.

However, there was something I didnÂt like about Fedora, I couldnÂt put my finger on it.

I searched around, and read into distros, and found Ubuntu - decided to boot it in dual boot on my laptop, just to try it out.
I loved it. CanÂt really change back to windows - it had all the things I liked about Fedora, and more. Software? No problem, just use aptitude or the add/remove.
The terminal is easy anyway, having programmed with it in both Windows and Linux - and even then, you honestly donÂt need the terminal as much as people say (Which is the major reason people I know donÂt switch over to Linux).

After a while, my Windows buggered completely, couldnÂt reinstall. I donÂt have any money to buy a new windows disc, so I just decided to completely format and star new again with Ubuntu.

And IÂll never go back if I can help it - except for a few applications, I can do anything I want in linux faster and easier than I can in windows, and better too a majority of the time.

Why do I use Linux? Because overall, itÂs just better than windows.

After 10 formats of my HD, I've now removed windows completely, and have only Ubuntu on my HD.

This isn't an issue really (Only one program I need to run under windows, and I can run it on the uni comps), so no problem there.

I've got UF5 running perfectly using WINE, and I've now got Apophysis running plugins under WINE.

Ok, so the plugins load in a completely random order, and I have to run Apophysis from the terminal, but that's not really an issue

.

Hopefully, I should be good to go.

Haven't attempted Terragen under WINE yet.

For anyone who's curious about loading plugins in Linux, I've created a few aliases for the terminal:
Alias "uf" will run Ultra Fractal 5
Alias "apo" will change the working directory to where Apo is installed, then run Apophysis 2.08. This makes the plugins load.
Alias "apo3d" will do the same as "apo", but it will run the 3D hack instead.

Apophysis Project
So, I had an idea at work today which has probably been thought before, but I'm writing it anyway.

I've considered, for a while, to do a write up of as many Apophysis variations as possible, this includes the inbuilt variations and as many plugins as I can think of.
This would also include the variables for them, and how this works.

On top of this, I was thinking of not just describing how they work (And give the math behind them if possible), but to also describe roughly how the work with other transforms, how they work with other variables (On the same transform), and also what variables/transform combinations are useful and / or interesting.

Here's the thing: I don't know if it would be well recieved, and I also don't reckon I could do it alone.
So I'm asking people if they could respond whether they reckon it's a good idea or not (And why!) - and if you do like the idea, if you would like to help out.

I reckon the idea could be a good benefit to people starting Apophysis, as they'd know at least roughly what each variable can do, and would also be a nice reference for those familiar with Apo anyway.

So... thoughts?

Ok, I *have* been a bit slow, but in all fairness I've been rather busy lately (As =PoisonTouch and *n8iveattitude1 know), with the flooding and some stuff related to my brother, so as a result I haven't had time to make pictures.
