It's once again been rather a long time since I've said or done anything on here, but I have finally made something which I can upload pictures of! A little angel, and just in time for Christmas too.
I'm pretty pleased with her seeing as it's been over a year since I last made anything. I expect it will be an even longer while before I get round to making anything else as with this one I had to wait until Lainey was napping and then work like a demon, but Lainey is napping less and less as she gets older and I'll be back to work in March too so I don't suppose there'll be much time for making things.
Oh well.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.

I've been a little busy giving birth to my greatest piece of art yet- my gorgeous baby daughter Lelaina. She's nearly a month old already (time really does fly)
Obviously all my time lately is taken up with looking after her so I don't imagine there'll be many deviations I'll be making for the foreseeable future. Oh well- I think she was worth it!

Just a weeny quick update, just to prove I'm still around, despite not producing anything in terms of artwork, and hardly ever remembering to log on and check what's happening on here.
I am now 26 weeks pregnant- all has gone well so far and it looks like we're having a girl- though I've been warned that mistakes can be easily made, and not to be too surprised if the expected baby girl comes out with unexpected anatomy!!!
Like I said- I've not produced any real artwork, though I have been sewing little felt bunny rabbits onto corduroy patches to go on the nursery curtains. I may or may not add them to my scraps at a later date.
That's about it really. Don't suppose I'll be on here much from this point on, unless I happen to have a very well behaved baby who lets me get some free-time when I'm on maternity leave!

Well, it's been a while since I put on any new work or updated anything. I've just uploaded a pretty rough, not very well lit version of a piece that I'd started working on some time ago and then sort of didn't finish.
The model was all complete and ready to photograph back in about October or November time. I then took a week off work so I could concentrate on taking the pictures and getting everything to look right. Well- first of all the floor I'd painstakingly made was a parquet effect affair, all in natural wood colours which looked very nice, until I photographed it, and then it just drowned the whole piece out. So then I painted it white and tried again, but then it was too stark. So finally I tried digitally adding a purple tone to it, which wasn't great but worked okay. At this point I still wasn't happy with my lighting, so I tried to go back and take some more pictures- but for some reason I just could not for the life of me get into it at all! I was just feeling really lethargic, and slightly sick. I thought this was probably just a side effect of being in the house too long and not going out for any air, but going out didn't seem to help either.
Anyway, my mum came round one day for lunch and told me I looked pale and asked me how I was feeling, I told her I felt a bit sickly, to which she gave a knowing smile and asked if I'd thought about taking a pregnancy test. Me and my husband had started trying for a baby a little while earlier, but I couldn't believe I could be lucky enough to get pregnant that fast. Anyway I took a test (well- two actually cos I didn't believe the first one) and low and behold- mystery solved and mother knows best!
So- that was about 10 weeks ago, I'm now 16 weeks pregnant and haven't done a scrap of artwork this whole time!

Oh yes- more 's' titles...might make a habit of it!

Firstly I'd like to say thanks to *kickass-peanut for the subscription, I know that I 'won' it, but I'm still greatful- so thank you for that! Anyone in the Christmas Spirit already should check out her new competition [link]
Secondly- I'm hoping that towards the end of next week I will have some bits and pieces to put in my gallery- I have another week off work which I have booked specifically for 'making things', I've got two pieces waiting to be photographed, am starting work on a new piece and also intend to do some sketches for future work. On the suggestion of I may infact post a few of those afore-mentioned sketches and perhaps even a sneak peek or two of some of the work in progress in my scraps...we'll see...don't like to give too much away! Actually I may put up one or two wip pics of Marie Antoinette seeing as I've been saying for ages that she'll be up in her full glory soon, and put up that sneak peek and STILL haven't managed to get her properly photographed!
Oh well- here's hoping I get my act together this time round!

EDIT- have put up wip pics in scraps [link] [link] [link]

Yeah- I know- subcribed and no CSS yet...I had meant to teach myself a bit before my first Journal entry but surely it's blatently obvious to you by now how disorganised I am!

As is often the case in my life I feel like I don't really fit anywhere. Whenever I upload a deviation I tend to just stick it under Miscellaneous Sculpture- mainly cos I'm not sure where else to put it. I did initially put one or two in Artisan Crafts, but they were removed. The thing is- my work does involve a lot of craft based work- but then, it also involves a lot of the other categories too- when I make a model I first create a wire armature, then I sculpt the piece (usually out of fimo) then there's sometimes a little painting, the clothes are all hand or machine stitched by myself, I make a background which can involve painting, sculpting, carving, construction, sewing, collage or a host of other things, or it's sometimes added digitally later. When the background and figure are all set I arrange them, set up some lighting and photograph them, then I'll play around with the photo digitally if necessary, add text or whatever else it might need and then it's finally finished. As I did Illustration at Uni and my pieces are essentially meant to illustrate something or other I would be inclined to catergorise them as illustration, but I can't cos the Illustration categories just don't really match up to what I do.
So- anybody got any ideas as to which gallery my work should go in to? Or do you think Misc. sculpture is suitable?

On a slightly more random note- I've just noticed that all my Journal entry titles begin with the letter 'S'- strange!

I have been driving myself ever so slightly crazy with my latest piece. I keep promising myself it will be finished and uploaded soon but seem to keep running into little problems.
The first problem was just my own indecision about the background I was creating. I finally completed the model work last week, but gloomy weather has made it difficult to photograph, and I decided I wanted something a little more atmospheric and warm. So then I went out to B&Q to buy some little halogen lamps, I bought three so I could light the piece from all directions. When I got home and set everything up for the 'big shoot' I found that one of the lamps has not got a bulb supplied, so now I'll have to go and return it. The problem is I wont be able to do that this week cos I usually only work in the afternoons, but this week I have to go to work in the mornings- I work in a University and this week is Induction for all the new students so it's a bit manic!
Anyway- to cut a long story short I decided that I would put a little sneak preview of the model in my scraps so if anyone wants a taster of what's coming from me next that's where it'll be.
So apologies- I don't know when the final piece will finally be on here, but I hope some of you will like it when it is cos it's been a long time coming!!!!

Well...I was hoping I'd have a brand new deviation to put up by now but sadly not. I've been working on a new model (of Marie Antoinette) for quite a while now- the figure is finished but I've kind of run out of steam while working on the background. Does anyone else get like that? I've really done quite well on the figure- been really positive and confident and done a job I'm quite pleased with, and when I started the background that was going surprisingly well too (I'm not usually too hot on backgrounds) but I got about half-way through creating her 'environment' and now I've suddenly lost all confidence and it's taking me ages to just draw a design for a floor, and when I do start to draw I feel all dissatisfied and change my mind about the design.
Oh well...I suppose I ought to just stop complaining and get on with it! So- I'm not sure when you'll next see a deviation...soon I hope- but no promises!

Right- thought I ought to update seeing as I'm now a week old Deviant. I know...I'm still young and in my prime, but I'm bored of seeing the same old journal on my page, time for something new.

Firstly, thanks to all of you who've made me feel very welcome so quickly, in particular Chii-Chai, who was my very first watcher and has been very generous with lovely comments; and to omgdragonfly for featuring me on her page and undoubtedly helping my page views along no end.

Unfortunately with the type of work that I do 'new stuff' happens very slowly! The images in my gallery are mostly quite old work. I've been debating putting up a bit more old stuff but think I should probably hold back for now to motivate me to get some more new stuff done. I'm currently working on a Marie Antoinette model, which I'm hoping to get finished in the next couple of weeks, but it's back to my day job this week so we'll see.

Aaaanyway, I think that'll do for now. Thanks very much to all!
Cheerio for now,
