What to do

You must make a Halloween themed artwork. It can be of anything you want as long as it relates to Halloween. Mature deviations are allowed. So be creative!

<sup>Hello everyone, sorry to inform you if you haven't already heard. ~ScreamSin informed me that I would be in charge of the club since he is leaving DA. You can find more information about that in his journal.

So as the new person in charge, I figured I should inform you all so you know what's going on.

Do any of you have anything your wanting to do? The club has been REALLY inactive.

I really want to try to get this club back to how it was when I first joined. I know ~ScreamSin did a LOT of work. Sometimes only on his own... I figure the least we can do is try to get this club back up and running out of respect for his hard work and to bring back the fun we used to have. He's a nice guy and I think he'd be happy to someday come back and see his club full and active again.

So feel free to submit stuff and I'll post it asap!

Alright, DA's new system has given me ridiculous issues with submitting new deviations, to the degree that it will not upload files, nor will it let me choose a category. So deviations will have to be postponed for a moment until I figure out how to either get around it or yell at enough DA staff that they do something about it. ScreamSin - Alright, I would like to clarify on some things. As you all know, this club is an attempt to get amateur and unheard of artists some recognition for their works. That being said, a few of you have noticed that I declined submitting your artwork. The reason being that at a certain point, you are not what would be considered unheard of or amateur. To keep us true to our original intent, I will, at times, refuse to submit your work if I feel you are simply too popular for us. I will never refuse membership, but for you pros and populars, it'd be more like showing your support for the rest of the artists in here. If you don't like it, remember, you're not forced to join this club. I've seen alot of popular artists getting the spotlight, and I would like to keep this as a place where that does not happen.

HOWEVER! In order to avoid tyrannical dictatorship by me, you may of course state your argument as to why you think I should submit your work, and if you can convince me, I will then submit it. Any opinions on the matter will of course be considered and I am more then happy to hear anyone's comments on this matter. Feel free to post these comments in this journal, or send me a note.

That being said, let me also say that my helpers are proving rather...useless at the moment. I am, once again, recruiting more helpers in order to keep the flow of art from being piled up on one person's hands and to make sure that art gets posted in a timely fashion. You don't need to be on 24/7 but fairly regularly would be nice.

UPDATE - Just a reminder, it's still not too late to submit a piece to be used in the ID. Come on folks!

Alright, I've finally gotten around to preparing our new ID. My idea is to use various pictures from you, the members, and put them into one explosive ID. Anyone who would like to submit a piece for the ID, please send a link to the picture you want to use. The criteria is really simple:

- No backgrounds for easy integration.
- Try to make it something that really shows off your talent!
- Color or linework are both perfectly acceptable!

Some of you may already have mentioned pics that you wanted to use earlier on, and I have sent a request asking if you were still planning on using that one.

First off, welcome to all the new members that hit us rapid fire.

1 - Must be the best work you can offer! No half finished or half asses sketches! Show us what you got!

Whoa, we got alot of people in here! So much so that I'm closing entries early to avoid getting too many people. If you sent me a note saying you want in and your name isn't on the list, let us know, and we'll fix it.

So, we'll start the contest on the 25th. First character will be one of 's. It'll help you to get your bearings and an understanding of how the contest will work. Then we'll choose the next artist randomly! You will all be alerted to when each round begins and if you're the next artist, you'll be told before the round ends so you'll have time to prepare yourself. Welcome to the second event of UnknownCafe! Yay yay!

This is the Character Contest. Here's how it works. You will choose one of your original characters *no fan characters please, you are all going to make your own unique characters. You will draw a picture of this character, a very nice one, preferably in color, with a short description of their basic personality, and submit it. You will then send me a link to this picture. The rest of us will all draw our own version of your character. This is a simple turn based contest, and we'll decide randomly who goes first and who goes next, yadda yadda yadda. When your character is up, you just have to sit back and enjoy the drawings. In order to join this contest, you must send me a note saying you want to join and the name of the character you will choose.

Now how do we find the winner of each round? Well, the winner will be a secret vote from all participants on who you felt represented the character the best. Skill at drawing is not the same as skill at representing a character. You are to draw the character in your own style. The voting will be completely secret and you can't vote for yourselves *obviously*

Since I, , am kind of hosting this *seeing as it is my club* I'm exempt from winning as well. I'll be drawing along side you all, but I can't be voted for since I'm the one organizing the contest. Need to be fair.

Also, we've been talking about a contest coming up, correct? Well, we've gotten some details done, and we can tell you that it's based off a contest that hosted a while back called Here's to the Psychos. Yes, it's a contest in which artists will select an original character of their creation and submit it to be drawn by the other artists. We're still hammering some minor details, but it should begin sometime this week.

So if *just as an example* told to join, and she did, she would either leave a comment or send me a note that says "KomicKarl told me to join." would then be able to choose one of his deviations and we will put it into the featured deviation section for two weeks *meaning you'll get even more people seeing your work*. If no one passes him for those two weeks in terms of members recruited, he'll still lose the spot, but no one will take his place. This is incentive to keep you guys recruiting for the club and increasing our numbers. The more members we have, the more people will see your work, so this is a benefit for everyone.

Now as everyone knows, in this event, you'll be working with your partner to make a collaboration. This could be anything as simple as one person makes the lineart and another person colors it, or you each make a part of a drawing and combine them to make one piece. Alright folks! I think we have enough members to attempt some kind of event to get you guys a bit more interested in the place and get some activity going! This is the Stranger Collab Contest!

The Stranger Collab Contest is a contest in which you sign up to do a collaberation work with another member of the Cafe. But you won't choose your partner. We will. You'll be paired up with a random member from the Cafe, and will be expected to work together to make a collaberation work.
If you don't know what a collaberation work is, there are alot of different ways to make them. One is each member draws a piece of a picture, and you put them together digitally to make one picture *the most common use of this method is two characters together, but you could also have someone draw the background and the other draw the character.*
You can also have one person draw the lineart *non colored, black and white* and have the other person color them. Basically, as long as both members contribute to make one piece, it's a collab in our eyes. If you have another idea for what constitutes a collab, do it! So long as both members are working together.

Rules:

Once our members get a little higher, we will begin starting up some events and friendly competitions for you guys to experiment and advance with your artwork and skills, ranging from competitive collaberations and contests to full blown club collaberations and drawing "tournaments".

If you really want to get some good use out of us, submit your work on your account, wait a little bit, then tell us to submit it. The delay will give your original work time to be noticed, and then when it's replaced with other deviations, we submit it and it's once again at the top, waiting to be faved!

We really want this club to make a difference for all of you guys, but in order for that to happen, you guys need to make a difference as well. Go out and tell people about us, and if you're already a member, go through the list of other members and comment on their work. If a piece is put up through us, look at it and give your best critique and opinion on it. Remember, you're here to be noticed, and the only way you can be noticed is to do some noticing. So start commenting like crazy and tell others about us! If you ever have a suggestion for a competition or anything at all really, tell us. We may be able to do it with your help.

We're a club dedicated to helping new and unknown artists be noticed by the crowds.

Why? To help them get a broader opinion of their work. No one can get good reviews if only three people comment on their work at time. We're here to help the Unknown Artists of deviantART get their work out there! There's no shame in wanting to be noticed for your work, and there's no shame in wanting to show off something you've spent a lot of time on. So we'll help you become noticed and get more critique, more publicity, and most of all, evolve and advance in skill as an artist! This is not about attracting fans or becoming popular *although those are nice benefits * This is about getting more people to notice your work so you can get more critique on your work so you can advance in skill. But we're only as effective as the members who join. You want more traffic, be sure to talk to the other members and make yourself known. People are more willing to comment on a friend's work then a strangers.

Is this just for artists?
Nope, writers are welcome here as well. Photographers, writers, poets, artists, or crafts are all welcome to join us!

How do I join?
All you need to do is watch the Club, and if you want to use us, simply tell us that you want to submit art through us. Send us a link to the art *if you've already submitted it* and we'll put it up here as well, with full credit to you and a link to your original work. No comments will be put up through here, only on the original work. We'll also discourage faving through us so your account, not ours, gets the hits.

Why did you make this club?
I got tired of seeing new artists who deserve recognition for their work get lost amongst the flood of popular and scrappy work. I personally love seeing artists who are just starting out and watching them grow and advance in skill. That's what this club is designed to do. It's to give new artists a shot at being noticed. The popular page is also what I grew tired of. Yeah, a lot of artists who get on there deserve to be up there, but too many don't. It's all about who you know and how many people know you. But the new guys can't be seen because the focus is on the popular veterans such as and *both of which I *screamsin* feel deserve their popularity* or other artists who I won't name who really don't deserve their popularity in my opinion *not necessarily the right opinion, just how I feel* but are well known nonetheless. In short, I'm trying to help the new folks and even some of the veterans who aren't noticed get a broader opinion of their work.

How Come Certain Deviations Have The Original Artist Name In Their Title But Others Don't?
The titles for deviations can only be a certain number of characters. We always try to put your username into the title but if we can't fit it in, we apologize. It doesn't make too much of a difference, since we link your work and your profile in the artists comments as it is.
