Since I'm (still) unfortunately living with my parents (finances are limited), I have to suffer through whatever befalls their house.
For several years, the roof has been leaking. Badly. I've nagged my father to fix it, explaining that a) it provides an excellent environment for mold and b) will rot out the roof. He decided to ignore me, saying that it would cost too much to fix. I countered by arguing that fixing the problem down the road would be many times more expensive.
Well, surprise, surprise, six or so years later, the ceiling caves in. And, low and behold, tons of black mold has been growing in there. So my father decides to fix it.
Me, being the sensitive type, could smell the mold for over a year, and as such, never entered the entire half of my house where the leak was worst. Once the ceiling was opened, the smell became too much for me to deal with, so I briefly moved out and lived with my boyfriend.

Also, school and work were both very taxing.

Well, the house is finally fixed and has been sprayed down thoroughly with fungicide, so I moved back in, and started resuming my work. Please look forward to seeing more finished projects in the future

In other news, I'll soon be out of a job, BUT on the upside, I'm doing very well on commissions (betcha forgot I was doing them, didn't ya? =^_^.

ummmm......for those of you that care, NO, i DON'T know what's wrong with it, since the people at the hospital didn't really give me any kind of explanation, only the brace. Since the swelling has gone done, i've been able to look at it, and it sorta looks like my tendons were shoved out of place by an annoying bit of metacarpal that continually, and for no obvious reason, grows and shrinks.

in any event, I had nearly completed 's commission when a fateful spill of paint ruined it. That'll teach me to leave everything in my work area. I'm going to redo it, and hope to have it done in time for my kinko's trip.

In other news, one of my free sketches has opened up, since I can no longer get a hold of Kffigity. (This was over two months ago when i last spoke with him). I'll probably do the sketch any way, in case he pops up again out of nowhere, but it's dropped in priority. So! If anyone wants one......





Oh dear. I used to trust Kinko's. They have burned me. The three latest images I had to get them to scan in look awful and washed out, and the first time I went to them (scan in lineart) they told me, very straight-faced, that they were going to be down for about three hours (it was seven pm) and when I looked around, everything looked to be in working order. Yus. I'm a little peeved. Never fear! I shall continue to work, and you will see the sketches as they get completed!

heheh....for those of you who are still waiting for your commissions, kindly allow me to explain why they're not done yet. This is the summarized version: me+=. very simple. Long version is that I have the late shift at my job, and rarely get out at a decent enough time to stay up later and finish work, and still be in good enough shape to go to work the next day. I've also been scheduled to work weekends (against my requests for those days off )

......in any case, I have this coming Saturday off (*knock on wood* ), so with any luck I can finish the nest one in the list. *phew*




For those of you who care, a TOFK update. There are a few reasons that the series came to a stand still. The work is also an issue. However, there's another issue, this one more sinister and annoying. It is this: Crowstone broke my world. Yes, he did. a character I created for his name alone broke my Goram friggin' REAL story, not the TOFK story. However, since Samazad and Miara are both IN the real story, anything that Crowstone does here, actually can have an impact THERE, and he broke everything.

...Well, let me rephrase. He rewrote History, and caused a major World War. How did a bogus, side character do this, you ask? Well, it's a long story, but basically I had a friend of mine review TOFK, and he wanted to know more about Crowstone, so I explained the character to him in detail (more detail than necessary) he went "uh huh", and then said, "Hey! You know that with three easy steps he can start a World War on your world's primary continent?" My scanner is finally up and running....sort of..... i had to fight with it from 11:00pm to 1:30 am last night, and it still turned out crappy scans, so I hi-jacked a friend's scanner out of desperation.

On second note, I know it's kinda early to tell, but I'd like some feed back on Trials of the Faery King--rather, more on the artwork. I realize the level of art is sort of lame, so does anyone have any suggestions on how to a) get a scanner to NOT eat up colored pencils, or b) how to use Jasc Paint Shop Pro 7, since I've been debating going digital with the whole thing. If you have any comments on the storyline (what little there currently is) I'd be glad to hear that too, but I don't expect much on that end. 'Tis all.

Well, I've had a strange day. Most of the start of it was spent moping and waiting for a reply on my job application, when I was suddenly filled with the need/desire to go buy myself new books. Even though I have no job. I know, I'm stupid. (Bib-li-o-hol-ic!)

I arrive at a large name, chain company bookstore, and my brother goes in while I get money from an ATM. As I head back, three fire engines, three police cars, and one ambulance show up. In the blink of an eye, the cops run in the store, and the firemen tape off the area with that fun, yellow tapey stuff. So i'm standing on the curb, feeling at once concerned and also kind of amused at my peculiar timing. After some minutes of thought, I snuck into the store via the mall entrance. As it turns out, someone had allegedly set off an "Acid Bomb" in the famous name coffee shop inside the book store. I have no idea whether this was true, so I get a book for my mother and then leave.

Not satisfied that I had fulfilled my book/art craving, I then went to the OTHER big company name bookstore, and found some books to stave off my cravings for a while. Just as I was walking towards the register, some random guy shoves a gift card in my face, saying he doesn't need it, and then runs off. I'm looking at the card thinking, "This is either incredibly good, or it's like, got anthrax on it and I'm gonna die" (I'm paranoid). So I use his card and make it home with my purchase.


and yet, despite all this, I'm still in the inspirational doldrums. Just weird.

Oh, and on an entirely different, and entirely selfish bent, if anyone's wondering what happened to "Trials of the Faery King", here;s your answer: I have the next eight pages inked, but it dawned on me I might want to make them look spiffy, or rather, change my art style. I've been debating doing a tribute to Yoshitaka Amano with my style until I hit chapter one (no, I have not yet reached chapter 1 . . .), wherein I'm going to try to settle into a "realistic" style if I can, rather than this cartoony nonsense. However, the very idea of how to convert Amano's style into comic book format is a bit daunting, so I bought the Amano illustrated "Sandman" comic book, only to find it was, yes, illustrated. Not set up in comic book format.

although, if any of you have suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

unfortunately, I'm a lot less exciting than that, but I am going to be dressing up and watching The Crow, as my tradition (adopted from the creator of the Church of Lunar Heresy) demands I do on Oct. 31, along with curling up with a collection of Lovecraft stories.

I'm sorry my "Snake Tattoo" comission is taking so long (I'm talking to YOU , along with all my other projects. I will now attempt to explain what happened.

A few days ago, actually, around the time I was working on/finished "Trials of the Faery King 10", I suddenly found that the inspiration and drive for doing . . . just about anything art related that I was supposed to, fell out from under me. When I landed, I found myself in a peculiar labyrinth, mostly devoid of any energy and inspiration, except for the occassional random treasure chest I found in various corners as I tried to find a way out. inside these chests were the desire to do strange, random pieces of artwork or writing which had NOTHING to do with ANYTHING. They came out of NOWHERE. "Tastes Like Halloween" is one of these.

Needless to say, I'm trying to get back into a mood where I can get friggin' WORK done, but I have no guarantee yet. I'll probably need to deprive myself of sleep for about a week. That oughtta do it.

My apologies for submiting you to the tortuous, convoluted and completely unnecessary "labyrinth" analogy earlier. You may now slap me if need be. BAD USAGI!! BAD!!

you may have noticed the weird, lined paper doodley drawings that I've submitted recently. Don't panic. It's just a faze. I won't keep submitting crap, it's just that it all started out on weird, crappy paper as a sort of joke to myself, then morphed into something else. The art quality and paper quality should improve with time, so . . .

Ok, a little bit of back story for this crazy thing!

this story involves characters from a different, actual story that I'm writing and planning on publishing, so most of that info is a SE-CR-ET!! however, there are only two charas from that ACTUAL story appearing in this little sub...par thing (one of whom is so minor that Arwen had more page time than he did) that I won't worry about it.


OK!!! Characters!!


Main: Samazad. He is King of the Unseelie (in my world) Faeries. He loves all life except for anything sentient which isn't a Faery, ie: "Mortals". He acts like a spoiled child (because he is), and rarely bothers to try and hide his emotions. He is rather vain and arrogant. Also, Samazad is 400,000 years old. His magical abilities are hard to define, but will mostly be outlined in the comics, so there's no reason to discuss them.
Samazad is in love with Miara, but is forbidden by Faery Law to woo her, marry her or do anything else he'd like to.

Support: Cerulean Crowstone. This chara is a member of a race of creatures called "Tyvten" which is human for "Birdmen". The Tyvten are avians (birds with an incredibly human appearance), and can change their arms into wings in order to fly (they also grow tails in winged form). Cerulean is one of the rare Tyvten that are born with black feathers. The defect usually only pops up every century or so, and the Tyvten born with it are persecuted for their appearance, and required to take the name "Crowstone" which is the name of a precious rock on the world which is mostly black. Cerulean decided to take this a step further and made Crowstone his surname, and took a first name "Cerulean" after the color of his eyes. He also sports a tattoo on his left arm of a winged serpent--the image of the Tyvten's god of death.
Cerulean's age and history are not exactly common knowledge, but it seems likely he committed some sort of major crime in his own kingdom which led to him fleeing and eventually offering servitude to Samazad.
Cerulean wears three Faery items; a blue and gold collar by which Samazad is able to control him (he retains some free will because he is a Willing Slave), an earring in his left ear, and a ring on his right pointer finger. These items will be discussed later on in the comic.


Support: Miara. A Rogue Faery of gross power. she once served the Queen of the Seelie Fae, until the Queen's death when she went Rogue. She has been given the task of guarding a Faery item of unusual power, called "The Sword", which chooses its bearers. She doesn't really appear in the story, but since she shows up in the first couple pages, I thought I'd include her here.
She feels warmly towards Samazad, but more in a motherly way than in any romantic sense.

I'm afraid I accidentally made it huge, and haven't been able to fix it yet. Please comment on the Haidee outfit if you can.




Ok, second issue: DIRGE OF CERBERUS!!!!


I have one important question about this game: WHY THE HELL DOES EVERYONE HATE IT SO MUCH?? I mean, am I crazy? Am I the only one who doesn't really think the gameplay is all that confusing? I mean, WHAT??

I have come up with several theories as to why everyone seems to hate this game, aside from the fact that Yuffie and Reeve/Cait Sith are in it.

1- Yes, the gameplay is alittle confusing, and takes a bit of getting used to. For a lot of seasoned gamers, I can see how they might have trouble getting used to it.

2-It's not FFVII. this seems a little weird to me as a theory, since it's been promoted as a third person shooter to the best of my knowledge.

3-the in game movies take FOREVER!! The game's about half movie, half gameplay. For those who don't care about back stories and character development, I can see how this would be really annoying.

4-why in the world is the game set up so you can only have one game going at a time? i started playing it, and did very well, but felt that, maybe, since I had a better understanding of how the game worked, I should go back to the beginning and start over so I could get higher scores . . . while attempting this, I realized that the game only allowed ONE game to be saved. a little weird.

5- I'll readily admit that I'm a Vincent fan. I think he's cooler than ice cream any day of the week. However, this backstory that we see is one we could've inferred from what we already knew, so the "shocking" parts are sort of let downs 'cuz you saw them coming a mile away. Also, while watching these movies, I sometimes feel like I'm stuck in some sort of weird, 3rd person Vincent soliloquy. This probably pisses off NON-Vincent fans, and kinda feels like beating the gamers over the head with Vincent . . . which is a weird experience, let me tell you.

6-This game might be better suited for gamers who can multi-task. the way the gameplay is set up, you need to be able to run around and direct your gun at the same time, and sometimes the two control sticks don't move at the same time. If you're used to "Left thumb controls motion and right thumb mashes buttons" this is a little difficult to get used to. I still sometimes press R3 to fire, because I'm used to doing that kind of thing.


7- I doubt most people have a problem with this, put I'll put it in anyway. Why can't we select the language we want the characters to speak? It's not that I REALLY mind the American voice actors for this game, they're actually pretty decent. However, I like Vincent's voice in Japanese way better (I can only assume that his grunting every single time you do friggin' anything would be less annoying in Japanese, but who knows? i'm biased). and they also replaced Jouji Nakata. As a jouji fan, no voice actor replacing him will ever be accepted by me. but that's me, no the averge gamer.

In all, I like backstory on characters, kind of expected different and potentially difficult game play, and also expected the game to feel like it had been rushed to production. Fine. However, I don't understand why, when I go/went to the game store to buy it, the salesperson was like: OMFG!!! DO NOT BUY THAT GMAE IT'S SATANIC!! IT'S CRAP!!! CRAP I SAY!!! and proceeded to find as many people in the store as he could to convince me not to buy it.


Can anyone tell me why this is? I just watched Angel's Egg for the first time, and . . . wow.


i'm blown away.


And depressed.

But more blown away.
If you have not seen this movie, I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend it. The visuals are fabulous (I'm told that Amano animated it HIMSELF), and the story is beautiful, surreal, horrible, sorrowful and painful. The mood is also very dark.

I now have to find a copy of this thing somewhere, but apparently it's hard to come by.

My brother is an awesome football playah, "the Ball Carrier" is his unofficial title, yessir. He got a buncha awards this year . . . yessir. Plays Madden 06 every night, too . . .

My dad loves football. He's a 49er fan (even though they SUXOR now!! ). Yup.

Don't know who my mom likes.


And there's me. I don't get football. I've "played" it several times, and had it explained to me seven times, I even bought Eyeshield 21 because I thought it might help me "get" football.




I still don't.


But the commercials are fun.

....... er, or do I?

I just watched BlackJack, the movie by Osamu Tezuka, and while watching it, it brought something to the fore of my mind that I have noticed on occasion.

SOMEHOW, SOMETIMES, I will realize that a character I created looks EXACTLY LIKE someone else's character. Or at least, it will appear as though I used this other chara as a base. BUT I DIDN'T!!!!!!!

Even scarier, is that a story I wrote in the eighth grade, eerily resembles another, popular book that I was introduced to later that year. It has a freakily similar plotline, some of the character descriptions are almost a perfect match, transportation systems, and DIALOGUE were all quite similar. But, I wrote it MONTHS before I read the book!!!!




WHAT THE HELL???

I admit to three instances, where, when pressed for a name for a character, I have derived their name from somewhere else. Generally, this is only temporary and I rename them later, but . . .

The rest of it is just scary! Take a look at "alley", one of my deviations. Know anyone else who dresses like that? That's right!! ORPHEN!!! I only saw Orphen this year! I invented Vax at least two or more years ago!!

And getting back to "BlackJack", I have a character who gives me WORLDS of pain. His name is Jack Wolfe. The reason he causes me pain is because he doesn't want me to write about him. Everyone else is like, "Ooh!! Isn't it time you finished chapter 3?" So I look at him, and he will susbsequently tell me to go fuck myself. Anyway, that's beside the point, the point is: while I was watching BlackJack, I realized in the first five seconds, that JACK looks almost exactly like BLACKJACK!!! What the Hell??!

Don't get me wrong, I hate BlackJack's hair, but for whatever reason, Jack refuses to let me picture him in my mind or DRAW him as having hair OTHER than that (only my Jack's hair is all black, and he doesn't have the weird "Frankenstein face").

My only explanation is that I must have seen these people somewhere, or heard a description of the story SOMEHOW, SOMEWHERE, without consciously registering it, and then having it pop up later on in one of my things.


And no one can get me on 4 Kingdoms. It was originally based off of Escaflowne, but anyone who reads it now will see that I was only using that to get my characters off the ground, and that they have been succesful in creating their own, separate story, which is nothing like Escaflowne. (To be honest, I don't even know WHY I had done it to begin with . . . it was weird).

(And the "Count D" hair with the "James" cowlick wasn't working out . . .) mostly everyone else is doing just fine. Except the loser. He STILL doesn't have a name.

Any suggestions?

Well, yesterday I bought a book on vampires. Not The ones you see in movies, or even Bram Stoker's version, we're talkinga about classical folklore.
Most of it was just fun and games, but one creature really stood out--the Chupacabra-or goat-sucker. The reason it stood out is because it's attacks on goats, sheep, cattle, chickens, turkeys and dogs seem to have mostly occured AFTER 1975. As in, yes, this is mythical, but no, because we are having strange attacks on livestock and eye witness accounts of this thing cropping up all of a sudden.

This didn't seem like Big Foot to me, because the animals that were attacked were drained of blood OR all their internal organs, and there were so many and over so large an area (several Caribbean Islands, southern Arizona, Texas and Florida . . .), and some of the witnesses seem credible (a governor, for one)

Also, a lot of the eyewitness accounts seem to describe the same sort of animal, apparently something 3-5 feet in height, bipedal, and capable of making HUGE leaps, having teh face of a dog or ram, and hissing like a demon when approached (some people said it had alligator skin, leathery wings, or fins down its back, but I ignored these)

The first recorded attack by these things was April 1450, when Coronado is said to have lost 1500 cattle in one night to a pack of these guys, and all the cattle were drained of blood.

All the victims also have puncture wounds on their necks.

Anyway, so THIS MORNING my mom turned up an article that said that a farmer claims to have captured and killed one of these guys. I have seen the picture, which looks authentic to me--it's a kind of . . . dog . . . rat . . . kangaroo . .. thing . . . very cute tho.

I know I haven't posted any art fora while, but that's becasue I've been working on chara designs, doodling and a LOT of research. The research is actually mostly for the second manga series I plan to publish, called Dragon Egg, but most of the mythology and magic apply strongly to Angel's Island.

Unfortunately, not a single library or bookstore in Tucson seems to carry a book on alchemy in its traditional sense. It's very agravating. OR a book on Chinese, Japanese, Korean or Indian Mythology and Religion. I have had to make do with Tibetan Buddhism and mysticism, I-Ching, Feng-Shui, and Chinese Astrology (I am a Fire Tiger born in the month of the Rooster, hour of the Snake). I am aslo learning tarot, palmistry, divination, and various other . .. things of that ilk.

The reason for all of this is of course because, though Angel's Island is not a "Mythological" or "Religious" series, the entire story is saturated with mythology, religion, psychology, and a little philosophy for good measure. All (I hope) cleverly disguised as a sort of weird and underdeveloped young adult romance.

The major theme that keeps popping up in teh series is, obviously, the world's mythology, which, I hope, is a conglomeration of a bastardized form of several major world religions, of which, I'm sorry to say, Islam is not one, but for various reasons which I will explain later to those who wish to hear it.

The Great Sage of the Sun, for example, is sort of like Buddha (I mean the Siddartha Buddha, not teh boddhisatvas and various other buddhas) and the Christian God (In his structure and stature in teh mythology, like Buddha, but more active, like God). The King of Hell is a weird version of Lucipher, Loki and Melkor (I had to throw LOTR in there . . .)

The major premise of the series is, of course, that redemption comes through loving and being loved, which is great, since it has more weird relationships than Jane Austin could come up with if she took a healthy dose of acid.


I'm hoping to also saturate the series with otaku-like references and lots of cosplay, in honor of a really poor version of King of Bandit Jing. Since I haven't seen all teh eclectic stuff that Kumakura has, my references would never be as cool
(almost everything in those books is a reference to alchohol, or an obscure poem, movie, or book . . .)
