Hello deviantART!
Long time, no speak.
Sorry I've been neglecting you all terribly.
I've only been popping on from time to time lately, but I've had a lot going on!

Mostly working and moving.

Was a year since my Dad died on Wednesday, so that sucked... and I've been getting killer migraines, but there's a lot of good things too!

That's me officially moved up to Glasgow, in an awesome big flat with my boyfriend and ~True-Believer.
Now I just need a job up here!

Got a couple of drawings in production, and a lot of doodles that probably won't come to anything...
Working all weekend, but maybe I'll have time to finish them during next week

Up finally came out in the UK last Friday, and even though I already saw it in the summer in the US, I'm still totally in love with it.
Seen it thrice and I want to go back!
If only Pixar would give me a job. I would adore to be a part of something that wonderful

I'm probably really annoying everyone I know by ranting and raving about it constantly!

Going to see Portugal. The Man at the Captains Rest in a couple of weeks.

I survived the Leeds festival without too much incident. It was awesome

Back to reality with a bang now though as I need to find a flat in Glasgow by the end of the month. ARGH!

So I finished my last shift at work before my holiday tonight.
Spending all of tomorrow packing and getting ready, then flying to New York at 9am on Thursday!

I'm very excited, and also very VERY nervous.
I HATE flying.
I have a proper phobia. So really not looking forward to that.
I don't think I'll actually be relaxed between now and when my feet touch solid ground on the other side of the atlantic.

Can't wait to actually be there though

Staying with my Aunt and Uncle for the most part, but my boyfriend and I are going to be in New York City on our own for a few days.

Got lots planned, including seeing RX Bandits, AC/DC and Portugal. The Man live! And spending a week at the beach

I probably won't log into deviantArt much, if at all when I'm over there, I'd just be overwhelmed by my inbox (I cleared it last night and tonight I already had 79 deviations and 16 messages!) but I'll probably update my twitter, just because it's so easy and I like to keep in touch!

Hope you all have an enjoyable two weeks or so and I'll be back on the 17th of August!

So I should have graduated the other day with all of my mates. Seriously bummed out that I couldn't

Couldn't even go to the ceremony with everyone, which sucked. Feel like I've missed an important right of passage.

Also, can't go and do the Masters in Animation at GSA in September because I can't get funding and the fees alone are Â£4500, which isn't exactly the kind of money you can just create out of thin air.

I just kind of feel like everything I had planned to do for the next few years evaporated after Dad dying, so I've been a bit down the past few days.

BUT, a new plan has formed.

I'm moving to Glasgow in September to live with my lovely boyfriend of four years (scary stuff eh?), so first and foremost I need a decent job to pay for rent/bills/being alive.

Secondly, I'm going to find some 3d animation freeware, or at least some I can afford so that I can practice and make a few things just for myself

So if anyone knows of any good ones then that would be awesome! Please let me know!

Thirdly, and most importantly, I'm getting a house bunny!!

These three things are the key!

I've also got America and Leeds festival to look forward to this summer, yay

So the end of year showcase was on Tuesday night and I won best animation for our year!
Wey!
Kinda makes all that stress worth it.
Still not entirely happy with it, but my next one will be better

And my mate ~photomedia won best artworks, go Adrian!

So now I have to do my dissertation... eek.
But I'm writing it on Wall-E, so it's not all bad

The working title is "A deconstruction of Wall-E as a social commentary"
Think I'm mostly going to be concentrating on the human dependence on technology and the mediated society stuff, so if anyone can recommend any books, that would be awesome!

I can't get over how many people seemed to hate that film. Are you crazy? It's beautiful!

Seven days and counting until I get my hair chopped off. I'm scared!

Sorry I've been practically dead on here for weeks.
Just had so much to do!
I've got 1,344 deviations to look at

Thank you to everyone who responded in my poll and gave advice about which images to use

I got them printed and framed yesterday, so I'm pretty much set for the showcase.
Apart from setting it up on Sunday and Monday... which'll be interesting.

Working lots at the cinema at the moment too, which isn't so bad, just time consuming when I've got other stuff to do!
But hey, I need the money, so I'm not complaining that much.

Also, I am getting my hair chopped off soon.
It's gotten out of hand. It's down to my bra strap now, but no-one can tell because I have it up all of the time to disguise how crap the ends are.
Thinking about being brave and getting quite a lot chopped off, but I don't know what will suit me and my stupidly fine hair.
Eep.
Such a girly problem lol

Anyway, I need to get ready for work.

I had an awesome day

It's been my only day off from work AND uni in like 2 months.

Went to see Let The Right One In.
It's awesome, I really really enjoyed it. Very raw and very very Swedish. Good stuff indeed though

loved it.
I won't say much incase people are going to see it, but I definitely recommend it.

Then went for a walk with my boy around the necropolis in Glasgow.
Lots of gorgeous old mausoleums and gravestones, and amazing view over the city.

Then cocktails with Becca and Amy, and drunk times in Madisons

I'll be honest, I'm pretty drunk right now lol

Now sleep! Yay

THE FOLLOWING IS A FAIRLY RAMBLING REVIEW WHICH WILL CONTAIN AS FEW SPOILERS AS I CAN MANAGE.
_{AND IS BASICALLY EXACTLY WHAT I SAID TO ~narrated WHEN WE LEFT.}

Working at a cinema has its perks.
Mostly seeing films early, which is how I saw Watchmen at 9.30 this morning.
So here goes my first impression:

It's ok.
Not amazing, not bad.
Actually better than I expected it to be, but still nowhere near as good as the original.

Zack Snyder, so y'know, slo-mo...quite a bit.

The music is err... inconsistent. Some times it's really good and others it seems really out of place

There are parts that are word for word the same as the comic, which is nice.
I'm not sure how much people who haven't actually read the comic will get, it feels a little empty in places.

There is one particular scene that's just ...diabolical.
You'll know it when you see it.
Seriously. Gah.

I really enjoyed the opening scene and opening credits.
Very well done. Summed up a lot in a short amount of time.

Casting as a whole was really good.

Nite Owl looks just as he should, a little bit pathetic sometimes. I liked him muchly. ^^

I was worried that they might total try to sex up Laurie, but she was kept pretty much in character. Any boys wanting to see her after the trailer will likely be disappointed.

Ozymandias isn't as manly as I pictured him, but I think he's played well too.
I really want a Bubastis. She's bootiful.

The Comedian is brilliant, perfectly cast. A total bastard, but you just can't hate him

Casting for Rorschach and Dr. Manhattan are both spot on, which is nice, because they were the two I was most worried about.

Jon was very well portrayed, and although I was worried his voice might not fit, it did, very well.
And they didn't make any effort to cover up his blue manhood

I even forgive Rorschachs slightly Batman-esque voice, which had me worried in the trailers. I'm glad they kept his broken sentences.
He's fantastic.

Best part of the film. Although he was the best part of the comic too so that's to be expected.
Unfortunately now I fear he awaits the same fate as Heath Ledgers Joker.
I'm just waiting for the bad fanart and slash to pour in and eat him alive, tainting the amazing character he is.
*sigh.

There's a lot missing, and there are niggly bits that annoyed me, but I think they did as well as they could without making it about 6 hours long.
I'll look forward to seeing how it works with Tales of the Black Freighter as well.

My mum came to visit last night and we had a very girly evening of dinner and cocktails.
It was awesome

Went to see Bolt today, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. (apart from the rabble of noisy children around me)
Good to see Disney are back on the right track

Got some new ideas for Uni, which I may or may not do.
I've got a lot of work to catch up on, and I'm kind of worrying about it so much that I'm getting nothing done, if that makes any sense at all

Just got in after an awesome night at home

Went out for dinner with family and spent most of the day with them and then came home to go the pub.

Went to see Choke in Glasgow yesterday.
It's pretty good, not as good as the book, but a decent adaption.

Starting to feel a bit more normal now

Getting really annoyed at this bloody Pantene Pro V advert that's on all the time, where the woman says "I don't mind Winter, but not what it does to my hair."

It's been a rough couple of days for me.
Mostly been walking around like a zombie, staring into space and trying to help my Mum organise my Dads funeral.
It's all a bit surreal, I don't feel like I'm actually awake.

I may or may not be around much for the next few weeks. Just depends how I feel, sometimes I want a distraction, sometimes I can't even look at a screen.
Going to collect more clothes and my graphics tablet from my flat today, so hopefully I'll have the energy to draw. I feel like it would help me get back to normal.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for their kind words and support.
It really means a lot that so many people care, both in real life and the digital realm. I really appreciate it.

Super severe hypochondria.

Ok, so it's 3.17am and I'm having another one of my super headaches of doom.

After some preliminary research online I have deduced that either I've become diabetic, or I'm having panic attacks brought on by my irrational fear of just not waking up when I fall asleep.

I'm inclined to think the latter, since this only seems to happen when I'm trying to sleep. Or at least to this extent.. I do get pretty bad headaches a lot. Probably from spending too much time reading and in front of a computer screen.

I should probably go to the doctors about this, but I never seem to be free when they've actually got time to see me.

Pah.

So basically, I feel like a tit, and I thought I'd get this off my chest since I won't be doing much sleeping tonight.

EDIT:
Wow, ok. Random encounter on the train last night

There was about 14 of us getting the train to Carlisle to go out, and we were all sitting grouped together in an otherwise rather quiet carriage and this random junkie looking guy walks by on the way to the loo.
None of us really paid much attention, because that's nothing unusual around here.

But then like 5 minutes later he comes back while we were buying tickets from the conductor asking for a plaster covered in blood. Then the conductor goes running off to get a plaster and he tries to buy a beer off of the boys, standing right next to me with his freshly slit wrist dripping blood like 5 inches from my face
He had quite a multitude of scars and homemade tattoos all up his arm too.

The conductor ended up calling an ambulance to Carlisle station and all the while she's on the phone he's like "Haw... what you sayin'? Ahm no getting oaf the fuckin' train! Ahm no getting oaf the train!"

When we finally get to Carlisle we get off the train as 3 guys who work at the station all get on and try to get this mental guy to the ambulance and he's basically just attacking them.... then that's as much as I saw because we left.

What's wrong with some people like?
They were only trying to help him and he's freaking out on them.
Pah. There's some delightful people in the world.

Anyway, other than that it was a great night until I got a bit too drunk...

ALSO! A small rant.
The other day at work, some woman and her bratty kid came out of Wall-E like half an hour into it and announced that it was the worst film she'd ever seen and it was just about "scrap metal" and there was "no story".

It took all of my self control not to yell at her.
For starters, they're ROBOTS, you idiot.
How she couldn't seem to feel any affection for the characters is beyond me.
Also, if she thought there was no story, she obviously wasn't paying attention at all. Probably distracted by the shiny glare of the projection lens.
The movie even makes a very valid point about consumerism and the state of humanity too, but if she couldn't even see a plot then it doesn't surprise me that that passed her by as well.
GGAWWDDD!
And I still had to be super-extra nice to her, because it's my job

Anyway... ahem

So I saw Dark Knight last night, twice.
First at the Imax in Glasgow, then at the staff screening at work.

If you get a chance, you NEED to see it in Imax.

It's EPIC.

Heath Ledger completely and utterly steals the show.
Anyone who thought he couldn't do a better job than Jack Nicholson as the Joker is sorely mistaken.
The whole cast are fantastic, but he just takes over. When he's on screen you kind of forget anyone else is there at all.

I won't spoil anything for you, but everyone should see this film
Be warned, they weren't kidding with the 'Dark' part.
I'm surprised this gets away with being a 12A, seriously

On a slightly related note, I've just been and bought face paint, because I'm working tonight and us cinema staff folk are going to get painted up for the Dark Knight opening ...night (manager permitting...>_>

Spent the weekend in Glasgow dancing like a fool at Death Disco
Awesome.

Back to work and stuff now.

Going to see Dark Knight tomorrow

Ok, the contest is closed. I'm just waiting for a couple of entries that I know have been done, but I haven't seen so I can figure out how I'm ever going to judge this...

I'm back home for a couple of days
Visiting my family and my bosom buds

Spent last night in the pub catching up and I'm going to visit family this afternoon.

Also woke up this morning to find Howard's Alias's new album had arrived for me, along with a little note from them saying that I was "awesome enough to be one of the first 120 people to pre-order it and therefore now ranked amongst the greatest people on earth!"
Which totally made my morning!

Go listen to Howards Alias [link] They're fantabulous. And it makes me sad that I'll never seen them live again

In other news, once again I'm not going to have much time to draw over the next week.
Working tomorrow and then I'll be in Glasgow over the weekend for Death Disco
Which involves lots of people, loud music, colourful lights, brick walls, neon face paint and most likely me drinking too much Southern Comfort.

And only six days til Dark Knight!!!! WOOO!!!!
