The picture of you is my only ray light in this dark and dreary place
As I look at your face it brings a smile to mine
I would gladly leave this post to show I love you the most
As I sit here rounds fly by, I hope this isn’t goodbye
While I sleep the rounds come in and I grab my gun with a grin
Then I ran to the wall
And the rain maid me slip and fall
I stand and look from where I came I see a fellow solder cry in shame
For he has killed a kid half his age
I take him by the arm and help him up, as we ran to the truck
He gets struck
I hold him in my arms and I start to cry
When he says I don’t want to die
As he slips away from life
I start to think about you my wife
As I crawled to the wall I see something fall
Then someone called grenade and my heart began to race
As I pictured your face
I ran and jumped into my doom
And I think about the stars and moon
I know you will wonder why
I just could not stand to see or hear
Another marine fall and cry I’m too young to die
My dear I guess this is goodbye
I can feel the steal explode now and I just lay there and look at your star
I wish I was in your arms but I no more time so all I can say is I love you and goodbye.
