for my AP Studio Art with portfolio in 2D Design, specifically photography, i am beginning to work on my concentration. i have two main ideas- phobias or habits.

i am leaning towards using phobias since i have more ideas for photos but i am also still keeping my options open.

for phobias, i have...
1) fear of heights
2) fear of spiders
3) fear of commitment
4) fear of darkness
5) fear of light
6) fear of numbers
7) fear of germs
8) fear of gaining weight
9) fear of open spaces
10) fear of being watched (actually, i am not really sure how to word this one. this one is more modeled off my friend who constantly fears that someone will enter her house or her attic and closet and is convinced they are watching her through her vents. i may for a picture show a girl cowering with a dark silhouette around the corner)

***can anybody think of any other phobias that can be relatively photographed??? like for the ones i chose i wanted to have fears of actual concrete things, like spiders, and also conceptual fears like commitment to a relationship or person.

School has sucked a lot lately. Everyone is so close minded and mean to each other. The teachers and administration have this warped view of reality and focus more on the dress code than academics. The students are so rude to each other. People get in fights for no reason and it seems no one can give compliments anymore. And probably half the conversations I hear are about what people are wearing.

But I have generally been in a good mood. I've spent a lot of time thinking and reflecting on life and I am now better able to deal with all the shit and more willing to enjoy the good things.

Next week at school will be quite interesting. We will probably just bs away Monday and Tuesday with the exception of history and math homework. And then the rest of the week we go to Miami. It sounds better than it will be. There are so many rules. I feel as if I am being scrutinized constantly in those kinds of situations. I am sick of everyone being so uptight.

My parents gave me four antique s and a minox. They are all awesome!!! The oldest is from around 1904 and the newest from the 50s or 60s. My dad said one of them is the same model he had growing up. Three day weekend and I am doing a New College class offered to high school students. Today it went from 9 am to 9 pm and tomorrow it goes from 8 am to 7 pm. I am doing a class on the Caribbean and we are focusing on slavery in Cuba, assimilation, and Santeria, which I find really interesting. So it is fun. But I thought it was going to be a full class, but there were only seven people signed up for it and only three came besides me. Usually there are fifteen. And I only like one of them, but the teaching assistant is really cool. She's a New College student. Basically, I am one of the oldest so I am just hanging out with New College students, the coolest kind of people. So its fun. I love that campus.
And the most exciting thing EVER!---> For my sixteenth birthday, the Wildlife Center I volunteer at is letting me release nine birds!!! Three jays and six doves. We are releasing them early tomorrow morning right outside my house.

Please at least glance at this article from NPR to promote your awareness of your effect on the earth. It is about albatrosses in the Pacific. They are large seabirds and will fly thousands of miles for food. Unfortunetly, much of what they find it plastic from fishing lines, toy parts, plasitc bags, bottles, etc. They feed it to their babies, unaware. This eventually leads to the death of most of the chicks of these populations due to dehydration and starvation. Hundreds of thousands die every year and the surviving number is surely not enough to sustain the population for a long period of time.
Listening to this story on All Things Considered was heartbreaking.

Think next time you consider throwing your trash on the ground instead of walking the extra 30 feet to a trash can, no matter how far you live inland. Everything leads to the ocean.

Last night, I was on the pier and looked up to notice a water spout! I was on a pier in the bay and it was forming in the gulf so the pictures I took show the barrier island between it and me, but they're still pretty cool. It was quite large and it looked like a tornado. It was connected to the clouds which were endless and grey. And then I heard a really loud pounding noise and looked to the north to see a wall of rain coming at me. I ran as fast as I could home but still got soaked, but miraculously, my camera was hardly wet! Hopefully I can submit those soon.

I also took a cool picture of Molly which is suprising because she hates the camera.
So expect a good deal of deviations once I upload them all.
I haven't been successfully backing up the photos on my desktop, so everytime I even hear thunder I unplug my computer. So it hasn't been on much.

The weather a few nights ago was incredible, with huge black storm clouds to the east and a bright blue sky with huge orange sunset clouds to the west. I haven't seen those yet, but I hope they turn out cool.



I've heard of this photographer, Spencer Tunick, but I've never known much about him. He photographs large groups of nude people in public places. In May 2007, he photographed 18,000 people in Mexico City's Zócalo. In August, in partnership with Greenpeace, he photographed 600 people on the Swiss Aletsch Glacier to bring awareness to global warming and the shrinking of the glaciers. I recmommend checking out his work.

We didn't talk to Clyde this year, but I am also going to a luncheon/lecture where he is speaking so hopefully I'll be able to speak to him there. Afterwards, my dad and I drove by the Skunk Ape Research Headquarters and took a few pictures outside of it. I love Florida. I also tooka bunch of photos of bugs and flowers and such so I will also post those. And then I have been taking photos of EVERY sunset, so expect those too.

This weekend I am getting my open water certification for diving. I finished the classroom part tonight after sitting through a 5 hour class and tomorrow we are in the pool all day. And then on Sunday we go in the lake or in the gulf if visibility is improved. So it will probably be in the lake. My instructor tries to convince us there will be no gators in the lake, but even the people new to Florida have made the connection with Florida fresh water and alligators..so. My instructor is this hilareous 1/2 British, 1/2 Australian professional diver. He used to be a commercial diver in Nigeria and Scotland and he worked at a diving company that allowed tourists to cage dive with the great whites off the South African coast. We probably spent an hour listening to dive stories. So basically that is awesome.
Whenever we go to Key West, I'm gonna look into the Advanced Certifications for Underwater Photography and Underwater Digital Photography.

I still can't believe he is dead. He was my main hero. He was my favorite writer ever and provided me with my first real good thought provoking books after finally finding him on my middle school english teacher's shelf behind all of the young adult bs books. I him. Considering Vonnegut smoked about two packs a day, it is suprising he lived this long. This last year hasn't been good for my heros, first Steve Irwin, and now Kurt. I guess Bob Dylan better watch out. I guess I better go read through every single Vonnegut book for the millionth time. RIP Kurt!

I just realized that I had edited the original journal with things from my trip, but they didn't show up. So...

Okay, I Greenwich Village. I got three awesome records (two Who, one Beatles) since I much prefer records, but you can rarely find good ones here. And then we walked through Central Park and I took 100+ photos. I might post a few more from there. And we also went to the Natural History museum. I got some amusing pictures from there, I might post one of those. We looked at this ancient skeleton of some lizard like animal and the description said it was an ancestor of mammals, so I took some "family portraits" of my dad with "Uncle Ernie" as we named him. Everyone thought we were pretty strange. Although I liked those parts of the museum, I hated the halls filled with dead animals especially considering half of them were endangered and some critically so. And I nearly fainted when we walked into the room of North American birds.
We went to the Museum of Metropolitan Art and the Museum of Modern Art and looked at the Egyptian exhibit and photos.
In the MoMA, they had a HUGE exhibit of Jeff Wall photos. There were about five rooms of his work. And they also had a Jerry Uelsmann photo and he is one of my most favorite photographers. That was awesome!
And then the last two mornings we were there, it snowed!!! That was awesome! It wasn't heavy, but who cares! It was still snowing!!! .............
New York was awesome! I took many pictures, I just need to choose which ones to post. Unfortunately, Spring Break is almost over!! NOO! But it was still good. I just really don't want to go back to school.

*On Tuesday, I got to go hear Jane Goodall speak, and it was AWESOME! She is so cool!
*Today, we went kayaking at Myakka. I was sitting in the middle of the lake not really paying attention when all of the sudden, I accidently scared a HUGE alligator. It was about a foot in front of my kayak and I assume it was a little bit under the surface because I didn't see it until I saw the huge circle of water pull under and come splashing up. And I yelled really loud, not because I was afraid of being near an alligator, but because I was afraid of it freaking out and bumping my kayak over which any animal that could make that big of a splash would be easily capable of doing! My uncle said he heard a huge splash and a scream and expected to turn around and see the kayak tipped over and me in the water. Thankfully, that didn't happen. But I still got some pretty cool pictures of gators. I'll probably post one.
*Sorry for the huge number of deviations I have been posting in the past few days. I plan on deleting one or two, but I can't decide which.
*Tomorrow, my parents and I are going to New York City! I am excited! I plan on taking a bunch of pictures. I am excited because I love urban photos but there is nothing big city like anywhere near me! So, I forget when I'll be back, but plan on seeing even MORE deviations then!
